I insisted my date would like this place and should eat here because I secretly wanted to try it. This was our first stop on our Tour De Packing District and it probably had the longest line we waited in, but even still, we only waited like 15-20 minutes from the time we got in line until we got our food. Just like the other places in the Packing District, you order at the counter and then there is a small space belonging to the little restaurant for seating, but there are various places (inside and out) scattered throughout the building where you can chow down if there's no room where you ordered your food. We snagged two high top seats and were perfectly comfortable for the 15 minutes it took to eat our food. We just got the "Original" (I think it's called) Poutine Fries. Yummy, thick fries, good gravy that wasn't overly salted, and some very modestly portioned pieces of cheese curds which neither of us have ever tried. The cheese curds were very, very scarce and once I tried them I wished there was much more of them...they kind of remind me of fresh buffalo mozzarella, only much more flavorful. I got bored with the flavor profile like five french fries in, so luckily there is a little condiment counter with hot sauce and ketchup and I dolled them up a little. They have plenty of other things on the menu, lots of sandwiches and even different variations of poutine loaded with meat. I am glad I finally tried poutine, but I don't think it's something I would order again. I'm a huge french fry fan and in my mind, they don't need anything piled on top of them except ketchup. If you are a fan of rich foods, you should definitely try them though. read more

The Gf wanted to try the Poutine Fries here. After going to Popbar, we decided to come to the Kroft. This review is for Sunday at 9PM 7/6/14 for the two girls working at the register. A reviewer below also had a border line unpleasant experience. We got it worse since we arrived a bit later. Also, I want to preface this with the fact that I am extremely understanding, and do realized that these workers could have been working all day and are probably extremely tired. I didnt need good service. But the service that we received cross the line and rose to the level of simply bringing rude and even discriminatory. The girlfriend and I are young individuals in our late 20s, we def have that unassuming possibly even timid Asian look. Here, it was taken advantage of. My gf was the trooper and decided to wait in the short line to get some fries for us. As I was sitting with the nephew, I noticed that both of the girls at the register displayed a very unwelcoming demeanor, as if they were annoyed and did not want to be there any longer. After the girlfriend ordered the fries and we got our ordered, we needed some water. Usually, I try to be as nice as possible anytime I ask for things, especially when its free. The following took place... Me: Could I have 3 cups of water please? Girl at the register: (gives annoying look) then answers, oky doky She walks to the water dispenser and pours some ( its about 12-18 feet from the register) Then she motions her head for me to come over and doesnt say anything at all. As I walk back with the water and put them down I tell my gf that I had a pretty unpleasant experience and that girl is not nice. She promptly responds, that she had at least equally as bad an experience with the other girl at the register. As she responds a lady ask for water, the same girl that "got" me some water walked this cup of water directly over to the lady. Why didn't she do the same for me or at least bring it to the counter or at least ask me nicely to come over to retrieve the cups. Girl at the register: (with an annoying demeanor as if she had to explain) which one G: the regular poutine or the chicken pot pie? M: regular G: Sign Here (with a stink face the whole time according to my gf) No thank you, no nothing. I was annoyed before, but now I am just pissed. Usually, I would seek out the manager and calmly and nicely provide my feedback on my experience so that he can improve on how to manage his employees. Also, despite saying NO Jalapeno Slaw on a sandwich multiple times we instead got charged extra and had no mayonnaise. So a dry fried chicken sandwich. I've always heard that The Kroft was known for making a serious poutine. But I just recently found out that they also do a real authentic Porchetta. And because it's so labor intensive and tedious, not too many places, if any, make it, let alone daily! The porchetta sandwich is sold ala carte, as is everything thing else on the menu. The peppery arrugala and bright house pesto balances out the richness of the custom crafted and chopped porchetta. I'm very glad to say that the sandwich tasted every bit as delicious as I thought it would. The short rib poutine is very savory and satisfying, and easily some of the best I've ever had [my brother lives in Vancouver, BC, so yah, I know what Poutine is] Their pickled red onions were the ultimate topping to this prime example of comfort food. I also had to order some cheese curds because again, not every place makes them, real ones anyway. Curds cooked to absolute perfection, w/ several in-house made dipping sauces to choose from. The signature cucumber mint lemonade, actually tasted like cucumber, mint, and lemon, clean & refreshing @ $3.50 for a 16oz.cup. (it wasn't filled w/ ice, nice touch) Friendly and swift service from the staff behind the counter, no shouting, well organized, nice vibe. Prices are fair considering that the quality is very evident. I will definitely be back to try a different poutine, and more porchetta, sooner than later, especially since they have a few beers on tap. Came here on Saturday around 6:30pm. Yes there was a long line. There were some items that were sold out, but they crossed it off the board. We had the short rib poutine and prime rib sandwich. Both were delicious. One suggestion, for the prime rib dip, a bigger container to dip the sandwich would be helpful. I know and understand the Anaheim Packing House has only been open a month. Situated on the bottom floor of the Anaheim Packing District, The Kroft always seems to have a line. Apparently the two most popular sandwiches are the prime rib dip and porchetta. I've had the opportunity to try both and have very different opinions of each. The prime rib dip did not meet my expectations. The prime rib wasn't very flavorful and I had a hard time finishing my half of the sandwich. I'm a huge fan of french dip sandwiches, but for some reason the broth in this meat did not appeal to me at all. On the other hand, my friend thought it was amazing. The porchetta sandwich is actually amazing. Although I hate arugula, I spent a few seconds taking the arugula chunks out, and the sandwich was perfect. If you like pork belly and bacon, this sandwich is for you. The crispy & fatty pork pieces were cooked to perfection and made every bite of the sandwich mouth watering. Lastly, I would recommend both the cheese curds and garlic fries. The cheese curds are literally chunks of cheese cooked in the deep fryer. It sounds overwhelming, but is surprisingly easy to finish and not too greasy. The garlic fries are a much bigger portion and are extremely flavorful. Went here today with my sister for lunch. Ordered the garlic fries, 2 porchetta, prime rib and short rib melt. So far the porchetta is really good, I just wish the pork skin was a little bit more crispy. With so many choices of places to eat in the recently revamped Anaheim Packing House, it was a tough call, but we settled on making The Kroft our first food experiences here. The lines were long and steady, so we had some high hopes to the food. I noticed a very hip, trendy decor with an exposed kitchen, where you can see the kitchen staff working on creating their culinary delights. The price was somewhere in the middle for a comfort food place. I guess you pay for the trendiness of it all. We ordered a braised short rib sandwich, kroft fries (parmasean, garlic, and truffle oil -- essentially garlic fries made with truffle oil instead of olive oil), and a cucumber/mint lemonade. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the food had pretty food presentation overall. Great place to grab a beer and a sandwich, just fighting off the crowd and the noise might be another issue altogether.The sandwich was ok. The meat could've been prepped a bit better with care so that we don't smell too much of the meat (not sure if this makes sense, but it can be covered in the cooking process with wine or other means). The fries were quite tasty with it being topped with fresh ingredients. The cucumber/mint lemonade wasn't overpowered by the cucumber and mint taste, and was a little sweeter. I personally have a sweet tooth, so it was ok by me, but I think overall, it could've had better balance in the taste. This isn't a place I'm dying to go back to, but the food was decent and worth a look. I may try another place next time I'm at the Packing House. read more

I love french fries, so naturally, I had to try one of their poutines!--decided to go with the Loco Moco Poutine (which has a hamburger beef patty with an egg over easy on top with gravy over the fries) **DROOOOL** & tried the Porchetta sandwich. My friend got the Braised Short Rib Sandwich and we split it to try both (I suggest doing this). This, by the way, is a LOT of food! We could've just split one sandwich---ended up with left overs since we ordered the 2. Anyway, both sandwiches were so good!!! Got the garlic aioli sauce to dip it in which made it SO MUCH BETTERRRRR! The porchetta sandwich had the pork cracklings which I felt were too hard. Not for the weak(teeth) people. Gotta be careful with that one. Also tried their cucumber mint lemonade. So refreshing and pairs great with the fries and sandwiches! Service was pretty quick, food is great, a bit on the expensive side to me but if you split it, it's do-able and I'd probably do that next time. My eyes were bigger than my stomach that day ..heh.... Fried chicken reminded me of of a great sandwich ive had at bakesale bettys in berkeley. The sandwich at kroft didnt quite compare. Jalapeno slaw wasnt as spicy or intense. Chicken was definitely thick and crispy. Some type of sauce would have probably added a lot, maybe a dipping sauce so the chicken doesnt get soggy (wife's idea). The Poutine is outstanding. The gravy is rich in flavor without being too heavy; and fries always make a great side. The cheese curds remind me of many trips to Utah. The 5 star clincher is the roast beef dip. It is expensive, but worth it. Tender meat, great roll and caramelized onions to put it over the top. The line will be long, but deal with it rather than being an entitled princess and wait for your food at the Hammer or Boxcar. Love the poutines here! Poutines are the fries, I got the braised short rib and it was bomb. They give you a lot of fries and meat, you can share them or if you're really hungry they're enough to get you full. I highly recommend these fries, last time I tried this place I tried these popcorn chicken fries with gravy on top and they didn't taste that great. My friend got the spicy chicken sandwich and that was tasty as well. It's not super spicy, it has a little kick to it. The fries were $10 and the sandwich was $9. read more

OMG. I go to Anaheim multiple times a year and I FINALLY went to the Anaheim Packing District (which I ended up loving). I chose to go to the Kroft because of all the wonderful Yelp reviews and they had french dip sandwich which is one of my fave things to eat. I ordered mine with no onions. It was sooooooooooooo good!!! The meat was perfectly cooked, tender, and just so flavorful. There was a bit of horseradish sauce but it wasn't too overwhelming and the au jus was perfect. Portion was large too. I think it was a little over $10 for my sandwich which is a really good price. (I could be wrong on the price but whatever it was, it was worth every penny). My dad got the porchetta and that was amazing as well....the pork was juicy with the crispy skin on it still...YUM! I'm definitely coming back to the packing district to try other places but the Kroft is a definite winner. read more

I went to the Packing House two times within a week and both times I found myself going to The Kroft. You've seen the photos, you've read about it, and seriously, the short rib poutine fries do NOT disappoint; like seriously, you can't go wrong with it. Also, on that note, unless you're a heavyweight eater, the poutine fries come in a huge portion. It's definitely very shareable between 2-3 girls; maybe 2 guys if they don't so much. My meat loving friend was finding it hard to finish his order of fries and he's been known to eat a whole rack of ribs with cornbread and 2 sides no problem. I've also gotten their chicken sandwich, which was pretty good too. No doubt about it, one of the better bang for your buck at the Packing House. Instead of a burger patty it had a meat loaf and it was tender and moist. The baos were so good! Love the cheesesteak flavor combo. It was awesome seeing the porchetta slow roasting on the spit it definitely carried a delicious savory flavor. Last but not Least the cheese curds are to die for!!!! I've tried their porchetta, fried chicken, ribeye and short rib sandwiches. They are all quite tasty. My favs are the fried chicken (juicy crisp fried chicken topped with coleslaw and jalapeño for that extra kick) and the ribeye dip (the meat is tender and juicy so you really don't need dip but if you want to...go for it! It'll add extra flavor). The lines are long but worth the wait. I have yet to try the poutines or soup but will be back for more! read more

Everything else I'd probably give three stars, but their tender, melt-in-your mouth shortribs + pickled red onions & arugula combo on a nice crusty but soft bread really makes me come back again and again for more. I'm not a huge fan of poutine (too heavy and I don't like gravy - I know I know...), and I didn't really like their porcetta sandwich (too peppery) or their fried chicken sandwich, but I think those things just come down to taste. We were walking around looking at what others were eating and when I saw fries with a fried egg I had to get them! The fries are called Moco Loco something LOL. The fries come with herbs, cheese curd, ketchup, a slice of meatloaf and a fried egg on top! They were so good and the portion was huge! The flavors were perfect.
