The man up front was quick to seat us, bring water, and take our order which was nice. And the food came pretty quickly after. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the design of the plates that the apps were on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Thai beef jerky was delicious. It came with a tangy/savory sauce that I think is a mix of soy sauce, Thai chili peppers, and scallions. It had a very small kick aftertaste. I love spicy so this wasn't spicy at all really but it worked well with the jerky. The chicken satay was perfect. Juicy and tender and the peanut sauce was spectacular with it. Didn't get the picture cause we wanted to start eating it right away but we got the pork pad see ew. It was delicious and very flavorful. We ate it very quickly haha. It seems that they go for more of a savory palette with a small spice kick versus traditional spicier Thai food but I still love it. June, I have no problem with you standing up for your staff, but I do have a problem with you publicly accusing me of behavior that did not happen. There seems to be serious confusion about what actually happened, so I want to correct the record. I never yelled "YOU EAT IT!" at your server or became hostile. I did tell him he should taste the Tom Yum so he could understand my criticism. I explained that it lacked the sourness that is fundamental to the dish. That was me trying to explain the problem, not mistreating your employee. I suggest rewatching the camera footage because it should clear up the confusion about the interaction and timeline. When your server took the soup away, he told us, "You guys can leave, there's no charge." We never asked to leave, and we never asked for the soup or Thai tea to be removed from the bill. We specifically said we wanted to stay because we still had two other dishes we ordered and wanted to try them. If you or your staff did not want us there after I expressed my concerns, you could have simply been upfront about it. We stayed, ate the other dishes, and I asked for the check multiple times because I intended to pay. Your staff repeatedly refused to let me pay and ultimately chose not to charge us. I even left a $5 tip. I almost never carry cash, but happened to have $5 and left it because I was upset and uncomfortable that I wasn't allowed to pay. If I was trying to get a free meal, I certainly would not have repeatedly asked for the check or left the only cash I had. Your claim that I "devoured" nearly $100 worth of food and tried to avoid paying is simply not what happened. Your restaurant chose to waive the bill. I did not demand that you do so. Since you mentioned the other four entrées, I never said everything was terrible. Some were simply subpar and I chose not to make an issue of them. The spring rolls needed more fresh herbs instead of mostly lettuce. The crab rangoons were okay, but lukewarm. The Pad Kra Pao had extremely large pieces of carrot and onion, and the drunken noodles had the same issue with oversized vegetables. Those weren't worth complaining about at the time. The Thai tea and Tom Yum were different. Those two were unacceptable to me, which is why I spoke up and gave your staff an opportunity to address them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Your description of a "busy rush" is also inaccurate. When we arrived, there were two men finishing their meals and one man waiting for a pickup order. My guest and I were the only other dine-in customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Thai tea tasted overwhelmingly like sweetened milk with very little tea flavor. I asked if it could be made stronger and was told no. The Tom Yum tasted more like spicy tomato soup and lacked the sourness and balance I expect. I've eaten Thai food for many years and eat it regularly, so I know what these dishes should taste like. I also stand by what was said to me: "If we're not good enough for you, there are more Thai places you can try. We aren't the only ones," and "This isn't Thai Legends." Those comments were unnecessary and contributed to my disappointment with the experience. If you as a business cannot accept legitimate criticism without accusing a customer of being hostile, dishonest, or trying to get a free meal, I have serious concerns about how you handle feedback. You don't have to agree with every customer's opinion, but you should be able to hear criticism without rewriting the interaction and attacking the customer. I didn't write my review to hurt your business. I wrote it because I had a genuinely disappointing experience. I can accept that you disagree with my opinion about the food. This restaurant is the former King and I and Thai Legends located in a small shopping center tucked in the Lakes. The menu has changed dramatically since the old King and I days which featured Thai cuisine. The Lakes Cafe now offers American breakfasts, Thai and Chinese cuisine and boba drinks. Their menu offers lunch specials that are very similar to what the King and I offered. Pad Thai and veggies with tofu were tasty with the exception of some burnt tofu. Tofu absorbs the flavors of the dish so the burnt tofu could have been better. I will consider this a one off and still give The Lakes Cafe a four star. The service was excellent and our servicer was very responsive. We will return as I love supporting local businesses and this one is worth supporting. read more

Lakes Cafe has become one of my favorite local spots over the years -- from the days of King and I, to Legends, and now Lakes Cafe, the food and service have always been consistently amazing. The staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive, and I look forward to dining here at least once a week. The Thai dishes here are absolutely delicious. My go-to orders are the spicy basil chicken and the larb, both packed with flavor and always cooked perfectly. Honestly though, I've tried almost everything on the menu over time and have never been disappointed. We would go here for years. I've been living in the neighborhood . I showed up at 8:20 and they said their kitchen was closed and there's new ownership and Restaurant closes at 8:30. Our favorite restaurant during this Vegas trip! You won't find a better deal for good Thai food. The weekday lunch specials are 8.95 per entree. I got the beef green curry and my friend got the beef pad see ew. We both also got a cup of the tom yum for 2.95. It was the perfect side on a cold, rainy day. My friend said she loved the char on her pad see ew noodles, lots of fresh veggies, and fresh (not chewy) beef. Great Thai food in a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. We've been here a few times for their awesome lunch specials available Mon-Sat from 11am-3pm. Each entree comes with a fresh mixed salad, egg roll, and fried wontons. Portions are very generous so we always leave with leftovers. The food is great and what I love most about Thai food is the blend of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy. If you enjoy Thai ice tea they make a wonderful one. This is the hidden gem of authentic Thai food in Las Vegas. It's the sister store to more favorite oyster place Legends Oyster Bar. The restaurant is beautiful and right on the lake. Came in pretty late and hungry so we ordered take out, I put in my order online 20 minutes and the food was ready within 10 minutes. The place seemed a bit small with limited seats when I entered so I could tell it was most likely a family restaurant. The man that handed me the food was very friendly and welcomed me in. The only weird thing was he had me sign the receipt which asked for tip again (I had already given tip when I placed the order). But not a big deal. I was worried that it'd be cold by the time we reached our hotel but it was still nice and hot. I had my pad thai made spicy and it was very spicy which I loved. What a lovely corner restaurant located in a shopping center at the Lakes area. The inside is clean and well decorated with nice instrumental music playing in the background. A casual restaurant serving Thai and Chinese comfort food. It was our first time dining in for lunch. We were surprised that there were a lot of items on the menu to choose from. Our server Pong was great and attentive to our needs. On the menu: Appetizer - Fried Tofu Chicken Pad Thai Spicy Basil "Pad Kra Pow" with Ground Beef Oh my goodness our meal was delicious! The Fried Tofu was cut into chunks and also had little pieces of fried wonton chips to add an extra crunch served with sweet and sour sauce with some garnishes. Their style of coleslaw with several thinly sliced radishes complemented the Fried Tofu dish. The Chicken Pad Thai was silky smooth just the right amount of sauce and so much flavor. The Ground Beef Spicy Basil had a good amount of bell peppers, onions, carrots and basil which gave this dish some texture and had a good flavor as well. Thai Legends Authentic Thai & Seafood will be added to our rotation of places to eat. Our server Pong also mentioned if we like seafood they have The Legends Oyster Bar and Grill located on Durango and Desert Inn, never knew that they owned that as well. read more

I was visiting my son in Vegas. He was wanting Thai food. I don't often go to Thai food restaurants as I lived in Thailand for 10 years and I am really picky. I love authentic Thai Cusine. We decided to try this restaurant has expired but a few years. The place is not busy, we were greeted immediately and of course the waitress was in shock that I could speak Thai. Not just tourist Thai either lol. I let her know that we wanted the real deal. she let us know but she kept it as authentic as possible with the spices available in the USA. What we ordered: 2x Thai tea Somtam Kowneow (Spicy papaya salad, sticky rice) Pad see ewe moo (Fried wide noodles with pork) Yam Talay (Mixed seafood thai spicy salad) Bangkok Connection (mixed seafood, pork and chicken with veggies) Ribeye steak Mango with sticky rice The service was really good. We were the only people at the restaurant, but every 5-10 minute, someone picked up Togo items. The price was a bit on the high side. But not unbearable. I enjoyed talking with the owner. Now there were a couple of issues. Most of The food was good however, the scallops on both dishes were old and 'fishy' it really ruined the dishes. Next, we ordered the Ribeye and it was pretty horrible. If you look at the pictures, it was basically boiled. This made it rubbery and just not good. Also, it was low quality meat and tons of fat and cartilage. The noodles, papaya salad, Thai tea and mango dish were good. I would return to try some other dishes and avoid the Scallops or ribeye. read more

I was in this small plaza the week before and saw that it had a change of name. I liked it before and I decided to come back and have a late lunch/early dinner. It was not busy when I got there. It's a small restaurant. Apparently, even with the name change, the ownership is still the same as per my receipt and their website. I looked over the sheets on separate pages that makes up their menu. I was going to order one of the curries but decided to try something new. On the last sheet, there are some house specialties and the Bangkok connection appealed to me. It is a combination of fresh ocean shrimp, scallops, pork and chicken sautéed with vegetables and a touch of pepper sauce. I was asked the spice level I wanted given their scale is on a 1 to 4 basis. I ordered 3. I also ordered a regular iced tea before I realized I should have gotten a Thai iced tea. Next time. In a short while, a server brought my wooden platter with the sizzling goodness in a hot pan--thus the need for a wood holder for the dish. On the one end was a small bowl of rice but an ample serving. The meal was great! The shrimp and scallops gave me my seafood fix and the pork and chicken took care of the land portion. Heat level of 3 seemed milder than I like until I started eating. Slowly it grabbed a hold of me. Before the meal ended, I was satisfied that 3 was the best level. The interior of the restaurant is small but that also gives it some charm especially with the Asian décor. Service was excellent. A refill of iced tea without asking and a pleasant server. After about a year from my first review, I can say this is one of my favorite pad Thai recipes in Vegas. A spice level of 3 is perfect now if you really like spice but it doesn't take away from the flavor. It's so good you won't want to stop eating it. They offer lunch meals where you can get a smaller portion with an egg roll which is also delicious!! The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food is cooked fresh and very tasty. We were surprised that it wasn't busier on a Friday night, yet very happy to get a table. We tried the chicken satay appetizer which was super tasty. My husband had the Stir Fried Glass Noodles with ground pork. I had the Garlic and Black Pepper Sauce over with beef, served with rice.
