Went last night for a birthday dinner. I made a reservation about midweek for Saturday at 9pm and we were seated right away in a nice cozy spot for two. It was a little loud but the atmosphere is very nice. We got two cocktails both very good. The ginger beer cocktails is PHENOMENAL. We were going to order from the regular menu until we saw the specials. They all seemed amazing. He ordered soft shell crab and I got the ravioli special. Both tasted divine very well seasoned and huge portions. The pictures are pretty dark because there's intimate lighting inside. This place is great, it is on the pricier side but not as bad as some other places I've been but expect to at least spend $80 for two. I would 100% come again for a special occasion. read more

Came for brunch last Sunday with the wife and parents. We made a reservation the night before because we previously had quite a bit of difficulty getting a dinner table at The Left Bank without one. Anyway, this time we had no trouble getting a reservation on the later side at 1:00. The restaurant seemed pretty full when we arrived, but we were nevertheless immediately seated outside (at our request). The patio, which neither the wife or I knew existed, looked really nice. However, I will say that there were a lot of very unwelcome bees. The wife doesn't care for insects generally much less those that sting, so we seriously considered moving inside. However, my dad made them a peace offering of syrup which was reasonably effective. As for the food, my and my wife's meals were nearly perfect. She ordered the Belgian Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and I ordered the French Toast. Her Eggs Benedict was legit the best I've had. The eggs were served over a waffle instead of an English muffin, which added a sweetness that I always crave at breakfast. Even though my main focus was definitely on stealing my wife's EB while she was swatting at bees, my French Toast was also very good. The only issue with the dish was that no one at the table seemed to enjoy the orange cranberry chambord. Fortunately, the waitress was more than happy to bring us pure maple syrup. The grand marnier whipped cream was amazing. By the end of the meal we were putting it on everything from bacon to pineapple. To drink I ordered a Morning Mule, which was a simple twist on a Moscow Mule using grapefruit. It tasted great and was very refreshing on a hot summer day. My dad doesn't drink much, but he ordered his own after taking a sip of mine. All in all it was a very nice brunch. The only real negative was the bees, but the food was so good that I'm willing to let that go. Although I can't speak for the inside, the patio cleared out pretty quickly after 1:00, so I would think that walk-ins are possible around this time. We could not have had a nicer evening at Left Bank. I've been there before but was there most recently for my brother-in-law's 30th birthday. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, wine, and dinner - and from start to finish the food was fantastic. Between all of us, we had focaccia, stuffed peppers, ravioli, tortellini, steak (3 people got different steak options and all were happy), as well as soup and dessert. This definitely is not an inexpensive restaurant but they do have reasonably priced options if you're there on a budget. The only thing I was disappointed with was the key lime pie. But that was less because it wasn't well executed and more because it just wasn't the style of key lime pie that I like. I prefer a really tart pie and this was very sweet. Everyone still enjoyed it though. If you're an espresso drinker, I highly recommend rounding out your night with a double here. A lot of restaurants drop the ball on the espresso, but not Left Bank. Overall, fantastic start to finish. PS The women's bathroom is beautiful but the stalls are VERY small. Just be warned. read more

I went to this restaurant a few years ago for my birthday, and the food was delicious. I was eating meat back then I ordered the steak and it was the best steak I ever had, it was like meat butter it literally melted in my mouth! But now I have a plant based diet so no meat and dairy for me. I went out with one of my girlfriends to eat there and like I always do, I looked at the menu before I went. Their was literally three options, the stuffed portobello mushroom which I found out was loaded with butter, a salad and beans and rice also a pasta dish, I decided to go with the mushrooms she let me know that it had butter and that was fine because I don't eat it 99.9% of the time if I can help it. The mushroom was horrible the presentation was awful it looked like a crime screen... the taste was bland it tasted like a stick of butter I was very disappointed. I also ordered the pasta it had a tomato basil sauce it was good just way to much sauce. So overall I was disappointed with my order. If you are a meat eater this is the place for you! My friend ordered the fried oysters and steak with lobsters and of course she loved it. read more

As always the food is amazing. I will start with that. Left Bank never disappoints when it comes to flavor, portion or temperature of a dish. However, we were there for a bit celebration with a normal size party (under 4) and our meal was drawn out over the course of nearly 3 hours. All guests ordered salads and they came out at different times, we watched tables around us be served well before us even though they had arrived 30+ minutes after us. We sat at our table for 15 minutes until the hostess approached us and asked if the waitress had been over to take our drink order. We had said no, so she took our drink order and filled our glasses with the bottle of wine we had requested. Obviously, being that this was a celebratory dinner we were hoping for the best and thus why we chose to eat here, however, the service was definitely lacking this time. Again, we are repeat customers and plan to continue to be based on the food. We are hopeful this was a one time situation. read more

I have been here several times, but i won't be rushing to return any time soon after the horrible experience we had tonight. We waited for just over 2 hours and still had not gotten our meals, and we sat there waiting with empty drinks as well. But what made it worse was they weren't even very apologetic about it. I asked for the check for the 2 drinks and 1 beer, 2 side ceasar salads, and 1 oreder of calamari and the hostess said she took a round of drinks off, but she did not. We ordered pretty diversely to get a good sense of what seemed on paper to be a creative menu. The service and ambiance were great! It's the only reason I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1. I regret not ordering the large ravioli. Yet it felt heavy. So we decided to go with a combination of seafood and a veggie dish. Sword fish, etc.... All the fare was heavy and oily. This isn't my first time writing a review but I thought I should write another one. The Left Bank is one of my favorite restaurants when I'm feeling a little fancy. The food here is exceptional but the customer service can either be amazing or average. The most recent time I went, the woman at the front desk was quite rude to us and made us wait 15 minutes even though we had a reservation beforehand. On top of that, she talked to us with an attitude that put a bad taste in my mouth. However the food and the waitress made up for it. I brought my son to this restaurant because I remember it being one of the better restaurants in the area. We ordered several appetizers and meal. None of them were actually very good. The meal, pasta, wise al dente but also stuck together and hard rock. Which tasted very fishy. The appetizers were interesting but you seem to Neldon blend together with the Portabella mushroom which was stuffing with artichokes, that was OK. Tuna tartare was also good. The terrible. We had duck breast appetizer absolutely awful and tasted like this like fish I have been to this restaurant multiple occasions and this was outright terrible. I came here with my family and friends to celebrate my graduation. I heard about this place from the relatives of the owner. I don't know how early you should make a reservation on normal days, but if you are planning to go there during the graduation week (mid May), you will have to make your reservation at least 2 months ahead. The environment is nice, it has its own parking lot. The staff explains their menu/ specials of the day clearly. The wait for the food to come out after ordering is somewhat long because they are trying to make sure all appetizers/ main courses of your table come out at the same time. All the food we had looked great and tasted wonderful. Some of the entrée are a must try, like the egg dipped artichoke heart, portobello mushroom and carrot papardella. I highly recommend this place and I would love to go back again some day. read more

3.5 stars for our recent trip to the Left Bank for brunch. My husband and I both had the breakfast bruschetta. The people we were with had the eggs benedict and the seafood benedict respectively. Each couple shared a bowl of seafood chowder. All of the food was generally delicious, especially the seafood chowder. The service was very good and the food was promptly produced. However, there were a number of issues that I've noticed the last few times we were there. The first is that the restaurant was very loud. We had to lean in close at our table of four to hear each other. The second is that the restaurant was very crowded. The person at the table next to us kept moving his chair around and accidentally (I presume) bumping my chair, purse, etc. I don't remember it being like this previously. I'm not sure if they've tried to squeeze in some extra tables or if maybe we always sat on the top aisle or by the window. I think when I make reservations in the future I might request a table in a certain area, if possible. The other reason I'm writing today is because my food was a bit on the overdone side and that is very unlike Left Bank. The breakfast bruschetta comes on a nice crisp bread so it must be either grilled or toasted. Two of my pieces were so blackened around a decent portion of the perimeter that I couldn't eat them. Granted, the portion was huge --- so I didn't need them / miss them, but if cooked properly they could have been good for leftovers, etc. My husband's were a little over toasted in spots but not bad - more coloring than taste. I took a picture of his bruschetta because it was more attractively displayed; mine were maybe 15 - 20% more well done. (He pointed out that as an objective Yelper I must mention it.) That said, most of the bruschetta was good, the seafood chowder was amazing and full of large chunks of scallops, shrimp, salmon, etc. Our guests were both thrilled with the hard-to-make benedict dishes. read more

The ambiance, decor, and service made for a pleasant and classy night out, but the food underwhelmed. Appetizers were good, though not always visually appealing: our mushroom special was a small hill buried under a pile of soft grains and a tasty port sauce that looked like beet juice. Entrees seem boosted with unnecessarily spendy add-ons like crab meat, when more focus on the balance of flavors would do. I couldn't taste the carrot in my pappardelle under the slick of oil and shrimp in the sauce, and the dish was missing a kick of spice and sour to cut the richness. The famed ravioli dish is more of a lasagne: filling wrapped in a long sheet of pasta. The fusilli and crab special didn't work: the crab and pasta were separately good, but didn't taste right together. We passed on dessert, heavy from our entrees. Wine list was okay, nothing too exciting. (Toutant's uber-nerdy wine selection might still be the best in town.) There's a small parking lot, but it fills fast and if you come during peak dinner hours, even on a weeknight, you might need to find a spot on the street. read more

My favorite restaurant in Buffalo! The atmosphere is inviting and intimate with dim lights, and candles setting the mood for a wonderful evening. I have dined both at the bar and in the dining room. The bartenders and servers are super friendly, attentive, and deliver nothing but outstanding social graces. The bar has lots to offer from their choice wine selection to perfectly made cocktails to several of local beers on tap. The menu is quite extensive, suitable for any palate. Along with the regular menu there is a daily separate menu with special delights devised by the Chef himself. Take the time to savor every bite of every course as the food is exceptional! read more

This is objectively one of the 3 or 4 best restaurants in Buffalo. When you factor in atmosphere, relatively cheap prices when compared with those other places, and portion size, it's head and shoulders above the rest. Atmosphere is great for anything from a happy hour to an anniversary. A shady open-air patio is open in the summertime, and is always packed. I have never been successful at getting reservations on saturday nights, so be sure you make those well ahead of time. Ok, so the food is fantastic. Seriously. The ahi tuna tartare is so well balanced and tasty, I could eat it every day. Every time I go there is a different special or soup that I have to try. If I have to stick to the classics, they've got a Red Beans and Rice with Chorizo sausage that puts Nola to shame. Their twin tournadoes of beef with mushroom ragout is awesome, and I've eaten their Penne Arrabiata countless times. It makes me so hungry, I wish I was there right now! If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to their dinners --reasonable though they are-- try their sunday brunch. Everything's pretty much under $10, and the food is filling, delicious, and served with freshly baked bread of the day (their espresso chocolate bread is my favorite). Love the Left Bank. My experience at Left Bank was pretty close to perfect. It's been on my places to try list for about two years now so I was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to dine here. Parking can be tricky as there are multiple restaurants in the vicinity. Came in around 8 on a Monday night and hoped there would be a table available for two. There was a 25 minute wait so we headed to the bar to have a drink. There was nobody behind the bar, but the bar was filled with guests. After a short wait, we noticed the bartender come out from the kitchen with plates. Once she noticed us, we grabbed a wine list and ordered a bottle of the Super Tuscan they had by the glass as well. The bartender was really cool and friendly, continued pouring the bottle for us until it was gone. The 25 minute wait turned into more like 45 minutes and when the hostess told us our table was ready we ended up deciding to stay at the bar. My dinner partner and I were having a heated debate we needed room for hand gestures and thought the intimate setting in the dining room would have caused some potential stares and eye rolls. I enjoyed the feel of this restaurant; usually I am not in favor of a wall separating the dining room from the bar but it felt right here. The lighting was dark and the dining room lit up with white lights, very romantic and elegant. The menu was surprisingly large and there was a supplemental special menu too. We decided we were going to slowly order dish by dish one at a time until we were full and the bartender was completely on board. We began with the tuna tartare which had sriracha aioli, cilantro and ginger finished with a soy glaze. The tuna was atop white rice and we asked for the aioli on the side, they happily accommodated our request. I thought the portion was really large for what I usually receive elsewhere when I get tuna tartare. The menu online however states it costs $14, but it's actually $16 on the restaurant menu. The tuna was very fresh, it was a great choice. Our final dish was the grilled asparagus salad. It was phenomenal, one of the best salads I have ever had. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, wrapped in smoked salmon, so delicious. The salad was a mix of mesclun greens and it was dressed appropriately with a creamy wasabi dressing. There were pieces of avocado sitting on tomatoes that tasted unbelievably good. The salad was big and everything in it was so fresh. These two choices, although listed as appetizers or smaller plates were very filling. I am looking forward to coming back here to eat in the dining room and explore more of their menu. read more

This restaurant makes me sad. Here's why. This place is super cute and romantic with all of the candles and fresh flowers and dim lights. Attentive staff. A perfect place for a date. Drinks are made well so another point for left bank. Now the food :( just don't. Bread is cakey and bland. Pretty sure focaccia is supposed to be made from a high hydration, high gluten dough. The bread served here is soft and quickly risen. There is some attempt to make it taste better with use of olive oil and seeds but really... Meh... Not offensive but also not really worth the calories. To start, I shared a fondue for two. It was basically a ball of melted Boursin with Brie mixed in. Pretty good value for $14 served with beef, "focaccia", asparagus, and deed fried mushrooms. Cute presentation but nothing really to write home about. Entrees were disastrous. I'm not the biggest fan of their "ravioli" which is basically a $21 burrito... Their fresh pasta is pretty lame, filling is super salty and flavors were off. Honestly the filling tasted like it was made days ago and reheated. I seriously found crunchy pieces of ground beef in my ravioli. The only redeeming thing about this dish was the sauce which was a roasted pepper based sauce. The pork tenderloin was also salty and off. The potatoes were over salted and the flavor of the Boursin/cheap chèvre did not play well with the cranberry based sauce. Buttered string beans were great. Dessert. I regret this decision so much. I got their "red velvet cake". There is so much wrong with this. First of all, cake arrived with condensation all over it like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Very firm and cold. And it was served with the weirdest mix of flavors. The icing was cinnamon based which was really not my thing, but then it was also served with a raspberry sauce and unsweetened whipped cream (was this a mistake??) and strawberries. I'm not sure whose idea this was. I am not a fan. Anyway, didn't finish the cake. I have mixed feelings about this place. Ambiance was great and drinks were spot on but the food is trying too hard. Food does not live up to the price tag. Neither the ingredients nor the execution of the dishes call for the prices they charge here. In this dish there are a symphony of flavors that are divine. Off to the West Side we went... To the Left Bank. Everyone seems to love this place. Well, most people a anyway, I have seen some reviews that were less effusive. We arrived early evening, 5:15 or so on a Tuesday. We figured eating early would allow for easy parking, time to peruse the menu, unhurried eating, not too loud etc. To be honest, we would have preferred to go for lunch, but alas, they open only for dinner, or Brunch on Sunday. The Left Bank yelp description says this place is dressy. ITS NOT. I don't think shorts should be worn for a sit down cloth napkin dinner ever, but here they were. They have a private lot, which was not full early in the evening. By the time we left it was full. Only one handicapped spot that we could see, which seems a low ratio given the size of the restaurant. You can sit inside or out, and we choose inside. Probably a good choice, however, the inside chairs have no arms, which makes it more difficult for one of my companions. When I asked if we could get one with arms, they don't have them. OK. No star ding for that, but interesting that no solution was even tried to be found by the staff. It was just "no". You must have some clientele that have disabilities, no? On we went to the meal. Our server was very pleasant, perhaps not quite loud enough, but I'm not sure that's her fault. We were not the first diners there, which was a surprise to us actually. There were 2 other tables occupied, one next to us, the other a few away. We were near the front windows, which was good, much more light than it looked in the back. But, no view to speak of there anyway. Our table was a nice size for 4, we were able to speak and hear each other initially, and there was room for the plates when they arrived. Artichoke app - This is a "tower" of artichoke, tomatoes, mozzarella - it was nice, perhaps on the slightly too large size, but it was very good and every bite was eaten with pleasure. Asparagus app - this also was a little large, but comes on a nice bed of greens and was also eaten with pleasure. In fact, all the food was enjoyed, although all portions except the scallops seemed a little large. Scallops - nice app, easily enough for a main for someone small. Tuna tartar - this was arguably the best thing on the table that night, very very good. The rice under it could have been a little less, but this was a great dish. twin fillet - this was a huge portion, very good. Asked for rare and arrived rare. The carrots were found to be undercooked, if cooked at all, but the rest was enjoyed. This was not a big drink night, we had imported beer and a nice Argentinean wine. no complaints on either. We did not stay for dessert (as planned). In fact, it was so loud we could not wait to get out of there. Our issues with this place had nothing to do with the food - LOUD LOUD LOUD - even when 25% full, its too LOUD. You can soften sound, put up a nice ceiling, cover some of the brick etc. Tables were shouting at each other by 6:15, not exactly a relaxing meal that way. Too many tables, take out a few of those and the diners will be more comfortable and the place will seem less noisy. Really casual clientele dress wise. For the prices and the "upscale" environment, perhaps some sort of dress code would make sense? No shorts, no beach flip flops would be a start. Does not have to be suit and tie, but is beach attire appropriate at a nice tablecloth place? 3 stars - 4.5 for the food - 1 for the noise, 2 for the lack of dress code, 4 for the service (although it took a long time to get our check) - so I'll round up from 2.5-2.75 to 3 stars. I'd go back, but only for a casual dinner, and I'm not sure the location and price would make sense for that. read more

Went yesterday and was seated right away. The mushroom soup was rich and delicious. The shrimp salad was filling and then the main courses arrived! We could barely take a few bites - we were stuffed. I was delighted to see how busy left bank was and how accommodating the hostess was to every party who walked in. Service was impeccable and we will certainly be back! read more

It boggles my mind as to why I rated it a 4/5 when I love this restaurant to pieces. Pros: - Delicious food. Absolutely finger-licking good (and they aren't even wings). Plate-licking good...? - Romantic, candle-light atmosphere - Did I mention that the food is splendid? Carrot parpadella. It's not cheap but it's worth EVERY penny. Cons - The restaurant can get a bit rowdy/noisy throughout the night which takes away from the romantic ambiance - It isn't a big restaurant so it's hard to facilitate a huge group - The waitresses sometimes seem a bit unprofessional, lacking the courteous smiles that are typically associated with the traditional up-scale restaurant - Even though I ALWAYS make reservations (I'm not one to take my chances), I always have to wait a good 20-30 minutes for my table. That's a bit annoying (especially when I can clearly see that my table is open; it's just taking forever for someone to just give it a quick 2-sec wipe) You might be thinking... what's up with this girl? She gives the restaurant a score of 5/5 but has so many cons on her list! I love the food... the service is lacking but I can't be bothered. They must put cocaine in their food... I've been to this restaurant at least 1-2x this year just to satisfy my carrot parpadella cravings. It's so creamy and delicious... ah. The service and food have always been amazing. The decor is very charming and romantic, but it does get very loud and can be very dark for the elderly who might have trouble reading the menus. The waitstaff are always very knowledgable and friendly/helpful. The menu changes from time to time, especially their famous ravioli dish. I was never a fan of raviolis so I've never ordered them, but I have tried a couple of different ones from the people I've been there with - not bad. The two dishes that really stand out that I typically order is a chicken and sausage pasta dish, and a spicy seafood pasta dish. I'm not sure that they are on the menu regularly, perhaps a variation of them. The pasta was always cooked perfectly as well as the meats/seafood. No complaints there. I seem to remember a very yummy bread basket with dipping oils, which I always have to ask for seconds no matter how hard I try not to! I don't recall any of the desserts there though I do recall having ordered them a couple of times. It's been a while since I've been there so I guess they just weren't that memorable... Definitely nothing like the NYS cheesecake and the homemade schlag from Peter Lugers in Brooklyn! (Read my review on that!) Lol Bottom line - great place for date night, or girls night out! The left bank never disappoints. We've come for special events, birthdays/ anniversary's etc a couple times and it's been amazing every time. Service is great, it's a wonderful spot for a date. I've gotten the carrot pappardelle every time, it is SO good. Ive contemplated getting other things but I just can't. It has mixed seafood with a creamy brandy sauce over perfectly cooked pasta and veggies. It is life changing. Last time we went boyfriend got the steak, I think it was a special. I really love the food when I go here and I forget about the one thing that really bothers me... the noise! I only took away 1 star for that because the food and options are amazing but it would be sooooooo much better if it was a quieter more intimate place. I stopped in for brunch (3 of us total) and we were seated right next to 2 larger tables and the one right next to us had to have at least 7 people who were very awake even that early in the morning. It's too bad they cannot have a separate area for larger groups considering most of the tables are small so having 2 to 3 people you want to be able to have conversation without straining your voice. I went with my usual brunch pick which is the biscuits and gravy and the chorizo gives it a really nice kick. I like that you also get an egg option to go along with it because most places do not offer that. We also tried the breakfast bruschetta and I didn't think that was anything worth getting again. The poinsettias (champagne and cranberry) are a must but if you get the carafe be prepared to mix them yourself. read more

Ok so I am not going to lie I come to The Left Bank as much as I possibly can. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Buffalo. The atmosphere and the ambiance of the restaurant is so comforting I could sit at the bar or at my table all night and be comfortable. Every time I bring friends here they absolutely fall in love with it as much as I did when my friend brought me here. I would call and make reservations a few days before you go if you want something around dinner time but if you can hold out until after 9 usually you can get a table for 2-4 with out too much of a problem if it is not a holiday. There is 2 things that I always get when I come to The Left Bank and that is what ever soup they have on the menu that day and the Fondue for Two $14 (shared of course). These two things will fill you up before your dinner even starts but it is well worth it. The various bruschettas they have on the menu are also absolutely amazing (salmon asparagus being the best thing ever). For my meal I love to get and usual do every time i go The Daily Ravioli (price varies)! The ravioli is easily the size of the menu they give you and is stuffed with cheeses and peppers and depending on the day chicken, pork, and even meatballs. I don't care too much for pork but if that is what is in it on the day I got I get it anyway because it is that good. The Cheese Tortellini $16 they have on the menu is amazing too. You get easily half a pound of pasta and they do not go easy on the cream sauce. I like to save some of the bread you get at the beginning of the meal to dip because the sauce is so good. I normally do not do desserts when I got out because I enjoy the food too much but here you have to get something! Every dessert is made fresh daily and to die for. The number 1 dessert they have in my opinion is Tart! Layered with caramel, chocolate, and macadamia nuts this is a very rich dessert but well worth it at the end of the meal! Be prepared to bring home half of your meal the portions are that big and make sure you are in good company because once you get in you are not going to want to go anywhere any time soon. This is a must visit place if you come to the area and if you live hear and have not gone yet what are waiting for! read more

Finally able to get a reservation for this restaurant and it was totally worth it! Immediately upon walking into the restaurant there is a certain ambiance that puts you in the mood to be out an socializing. The lighting is perfect to set the mood without being dark. There is a fine dining feel without the out of control fine dining prices. The menu is full of options for any type of food mood you may be in: meat, no meat, past, no pasta. We has the calamari and the stuffed portobello mushroom to start. The calamari was well-seasoned and not too oily and just the right amount of crispy. The portobello mushroom had a red wine sauce that was to die for. It was absolutely delicious and definitely recommended to anyone who loves mushrooms. For an entree I just ordered the vermicelli pasta which had a tomato and basil sauce which sounds basic but was full of flavor and delicious. All the portions are generous and will likely provide you with left overs. Whether going for a celebration or just a night out, this place is a hit. Just make sure to plan ahead! read more
