when i asked my friend where the most "tucsonan" place to eat was he took me to the little one... and i can see what he meant. from the eclectic vibe to the delicious food the little one is a great breakfast and lunch spot. the food was fresh, vibrant and clearly made with a lot of thought and love. this isn't you standard hole in the wall burrito place so you'll pay a bit more, but i think its totally worth it. with my budget i'm not able to eat here often, but every time i do it's a joy. the mole negro is yum, but so is everything there. and you can get a hug on the way out... double win! read more

Great little place downtown that is only open for Breakfast and Lunch and takes CASH ONLY! I had been eyeing it for a while, and finally had a weekday off where both my husband and I could go and try it out. It certainly has the neighborhood cafe/diner vibe. The owner was sitting at one of the tables chatting with an oldtime patron and seems to know everyone who walks through the door. Even with us, she greeted so warmly and motherly. What can we say, This place is great. Service always with some sort of hug and quick and delish. Now we pull up out front, holler in our order and it comes right out to our car, no traffic jam, no hassle, no time wasted. We like eating there if the weather is right and it usually is. They are now serving outside on the sidewalk but its working to the best they can muster up. We love it here and my favorite is the Barbacoa plate, and the Pollo Ranchero Chicken we make both our plates into tacos they bring us with our rice and beans. Fantastic breakfast and lunch spot! Don't forget cash! They don't take card. The Little One is a vibrant oasis in the heart of downtown. If you're in search of flavorful and fulfilling veg options this place has you covered. The tamales are always delicious. You gotta bring your own containers if you want to bring any extras home... which you will. Last time I was there they had a veg ceviche that could compete with many of the non-veg ones I've had; the flavors are plentiful. The juices are always refreshing, and sometimes they have a unique twist. At this place, something that sounds unusu is probably more like extraordinary. I love sitting on the patio once the Tucson sun takes a break. They've closed it off a bit with very cute straw decor and it mutes the city noises around you to a low hum. We found this spot with Yelp and the reviews looked good. We figured it would not be difficult to get really good Mexican food in Tucson. While that might be true, this was not the spot to have it. I doubt if they have a cooks kitchen, or any kitchen for that matter but maybe a microwave and staging area. I had the veggie combo st 15$ and the sauce was straight from a can onto a very tired Chile that was under a very dubious covering. One tablespoon of brown rice and pinto beans straight from a can in an airplane mode plastic plate. The servings were child size and over salted. The tamal was sweet and served in tin foil and corn husks, and the mass was adequate but it was dessert sweet, cloyingly so. The quesadilla in corn tortillas were just as bad. While my sister and I were having breakfast, a gentleman came out of the restaurant and asked us, "if we could spare some change." My immediate response was cold and rude. He went to the bench out front and within a few minutes Marcella came out with a container of rice & beans for the man. Her generosity was an opportunity for me to see things in a different light today. I was touched, I went to apologize to the man and make sure he had $$ for lunch. I went in to tell Marcella how moved I was by her level of compassion. She told me, "everyone needs help sometimes and everyone deserves to eat." Ok, I can't believe I waited this long to go back to Little Cafe Poca Cosa. I HEART this place. Hugs are mandatory ( I swear! It's on their sign), the music is so loud you can barely hear your dining buddies speak, but really, you're probably not even listening to them, you'll be too involved with your food, it's delicious. Plus, the music is always upbeat and so diverse (you'll hear Mexican, Reggae, Country). There's so much love in this place! It's quite incredible to see how united the family is with another sister, Susana running Cafe Poca Cosa, her daughter owns Cup Quequitos, and the youngest sister owns a catering company called Buen Provecho. And they give back so much to the Tucson community. Truth be told, I prefer the Little Poca over the Cafe....why? It's fun! More casual! Let uptight. Food is heartwarming, healthy and delicious. I came in today with my dad, and he hadn't seen Sandra in YEARS! And it was an amazing reunion. Lunch was joyful and delicious, and she even let my dad pick his own items for the "plato poca cosa." Yep, she even broke the rules! I order the taco special which was cochinita pibil that had been marinated in orange the night before. The citrus flavors were bold and lively. I loved my lunch with rice and salad. I ordered the tamarindo juice and it was the best I've had anywhere in Tucson. Why? Because it's FRESH and tangy as Tamarindo should be. Super low on sugar, just the way I like it. I wish they sold it by the gallon. They also had beet-mandarin juice (these are more like aguas frescas) and I'm hoping they'll it on my next visit! You can't go wrong with any dish here. They are serving up honest and real traditional food here. You won't find any monterey jack, cheddar or sour cream here! Thank god! This is a must try. It's places like Little Cafe Poca Cosa that make me realize how deficient Phoenix is in simple, homey Mexican food restaurants. I guess it's one thing the Old Pueblo has on us. My sister and I stopped here for breakfast right when they opened up, and our waitress was so friendly and welcoming. As stated on the website, the music is on the loud side, but it certainly didn't inhibit our conversation. I liked what they were playing so I say bring it on! I got poached eggs over a green chile tamale (I *think* it's huevos entamorados on the menu, but I hate to be wrong about these things). The eggs were cooked perfectly, the sweet tamale was delicious, and I couldn't stop snarfing down the pintos and rice. The coffee was particularly good, strong with a hint of cinnamon, and our sweetheart of a waitress gave us some to go cups of it for our trip back home. Like the loud music, we received our promised "mandatory hugs" on the way out. I can't wait to come back here the next time I'm in Tucson. read more

I'm still here and trying to figure out what to type when I looked up to see a past newspaper article on the wall titled, "Best Noisy Place, but You Do Not Care, Because the Mole is So Damn Good!" LCPC just moved up the ranks to #1 in my top Tucson restaurants! I ordered the 1/2 and 1/2 with a chile relleno and chicken mole. Literally, in less than 5 minutes my beautiful and colorful plate of food was on my table with my bowl of beans, tortillas, chips and salsa. The rellenos were like none I've ever tried. The tomato based sauce that covers the top is flavorful yet understated, and helps the flavor of the relleno and the lack of batter, which I prefer, really stand out. However, what stood out even more was the artisan-like perfected mole sauce!!! WOW!!! It's absolutely spectacular. I highly highly recommend this place for lunch...that being the only foreseeable downside...they're only open for breakfast and lunch! Come visit, enjoy Marcela and scarf down some mole! However, some very enticing pictures had popped up on the Yelp feed that made me want to re-visit. Everything that's I can say about the little cafe has been said before. The food is great. I went a la carte and had their amazing chicken caldo and their amazing chile relleno. They were both, let's see, amazing. I love how everything was fresh and light but still delicious. I had the horchata-coffee drink that looked so good in pictures but unfortunately fell flat to me. And, yes, there will be hugs. And loud music. We came to the little one on Friday morning at 8:40 am. It wasn't too crowded but it looks nice and clean even though it is not a huge restaurant. Lots of nice tropical plants to make it feel like you're in tropical Mexico. On the door it says $CASH ONLY. Ok so I don't normally carry cash in my wallet but we went in anyway. The menu offers many vegetarian and a couple vegan options. Wow. I'm starting to like this place not because I'm one but maybe because they make healthier foods for a change. We ordered the Breakfast combination plate and the Huevos Poblano. After ordering I walked went across the street (thank God there was Wells Fargo) to try to get cash but it's still closed! Went back to the little one and then they served the food. Wow I'm impressed it seems so simple but it tasted pretty good. Salad for breakfast? I ate it with the special dressing provided on each table! The green Chile tamales is very good, slightly sweet, don't need dessert after that! The Chile rellenos is also very good and flavorful. It's also the little touches that make it different line the freshly cut pineapple with the skin still intact. I'm usually nauseated after eating out because restaurant food are usually greasy and fried; the chef at other restaurants usually uses tons of oil, but not this time! I feel great after eating, the portions are just right, didn't feel like I overate, even the beans are not refried with oily bacon grease. After eating, I had to make my trip out to wells Fargo again to get cash. I would give the little one a 4 star review for being inconvenient and making me go across the street for cash but I'm so impressed with the food and the overall atmosphere of the place that I'm going to award a 5 star!
