Wow! What to say. Great little place for lunch. I had the Caldo de Pollo soup on two different visits. It was so good I had it both times we visited. Why fix a good thing if it ain't broke. A meal by itself with chicken N veggies. Chips and salsa; re fried beans and tortilla come with it. Broth is to die for. I love good soup. Very friendly service. This place is only open for breakfast and lunch and they only accept cash. So if you can overcome both of those hurdles then this place is a must! The food is similar to the big Cafe Poca Cosa, but at a fraction of the cost. We came towards the end of the lunch rush and sat on the patio. We were brought chips right away which was nice. The chips and salsa were delicious! We ordered right away and our food was out in like 5 minutes! I ordered the barbacoa de res and it was soooo tasty and flavorful. Very juicy and packed with spices and stewed vegetables. The rice was probably the star! I think they said it was vegan rice, but vegan schmegan I don't care it was delicious! The beans were also not bad at all. Overall, this place is delicious! Can't wait to stop at an ATM and make a mad dash for this place again for lunch. read more

Great place for breakfast/lunch! I got the breakfast platter and the everything is made so well and is very flavorful. They also have fresh juice and I loved the mango-peach juice. Very friendly and quick service, only downside is they only take cash which is fine as long as you're ready for it. read more

After horrible customer service at the big cafe poca cosa I had sworn off the restaurant. But a friend picked me up at the airport and this is where she wanted to go. Luckily it is nothing like the other location, except for having incredible food. At half the price. With friendly service. Go here. But make to bring cash and your own to go containers. They charge for Tupperware, as they are green and don't use throw away containers. read more

We needed a quick lunch after visiting the artisan shops in downtown Tucson, having driven down from Phoenix. What a pleasant surprise! A wonderfully tasty, fresh and unique little spot, and the staff was so friendly. The tamale was absolutely delicious, as was the chicken mole, served street taco fashion. They make such yummy food. The boss is such a sweet lady and she treats us like we are her own family. This place feels like grandma's or home. I had the Huevos con Chorizo, which was phenomenal! I decided to have it as take-out. Pros: -Yummy, homey food -Large portions -She offers you chips when you sit down -Large and variety of items on the menu Cons: -Make sure you have cash on you; cash only. (I had to step out to go to the bank...how embarrassing) -Take out - charges you an extra $1.20 for the Tupperware that you get to keep. It is quite nice; the Tupperware because it has two small and one big parts. -Parking may be hard to find (street parking; depending on the time and day) and some closer meters are maximum 30 mins. I would definitely come back here if I am in the area again. read more

My favorite Tucson restaurant has always been Café Poca Cosa, well this is the sister breakfast/lunch restaurant with the same GREAT food! This is now my absolute favorite lunch place in Tucson! Too bad they're only open Monday-Friday for breakfast and lunch and I work too far away to take advantage... I was able to get there today because I had a meeting downtown. I left so full, and sad that I couldn't finish all of my food. I had a plate with a corn tamale - the best! Perfectly sweet, a chipotle pork with astonishingly great flavor - this was the first bite I took, and I was taken aback by the incredible flavor in this, chili relleno - fantastic! The best Spanish rice that I've ever had was included on the plate, along with a beautiful salad with beets - my favorite salad ingredient! Everything came with salsa and chips, and beans, and tortillas! All fresh, I can't think of a thing that would make it all better. The service was fast - we had everything in about 5 minutes, and the owner loves giving everyone a hug and personally checking on everyone to see how they like the food! I will find any opportunity to make it here during the week. I can't say enough good things about this place! Bring cash, as it is cash only. It was a beautiful day, so we enjoyed the nice outside patio. I will find an excuse to get back down here during the week soon!! read more

The only thing little about this place are the prices compared to the normal poca cosa. Menu full of items including dishes marked vegetarian. Unique drinks like pineapple basil juice or a beet lemon aid. Good chips and salsa. Super friendly staff. Stop at a ATM them come here for a great lunch. Or come in early for breakfast and save a $1. I had a vegetarian chillie rellno. And a beet Lemon aid. The rellno was mild and cheesy, Served with rice and a small side salad. All were great and the dressing on the table for the salad was nice and light. It came with con tortillas and veg friendly beans. I was quite happy. There is a great patio outside, but if you want the full in your face effect stay inside. The service was fast and super friendly. read more

Went here on a weekday and the place was completely packed. I got a little table in a corner but it was so loud, it was hard to hear anything. The food however was very good. Personally, I have had better mole but if you like sweeter mole, then this is your place. read more

Go for the hug! I love anyplace that won't let you out until you have a hug from the owner. Wonderful food and friendly service. Be sure to bring cash and your own to-go containers. They are a "green" restaurant and don't use plastic and Styrofoam. Beans and tortilla are offered, but if you aren't going to eat them, don't order them. I wish they were open more than just weekdays, but it is what it is now. read more

It was good, but didn't blow my mind as anticipated. The service was in your face, but I guess that added to the charm. Got a hug on the way out, which was always nice--who doesn't like hugs! Got the cafe poca cosa plate which had an egg (well cooked), barbacoa (dry), and a chille relleno (delicious). Came with rice and beans and a little salad. Nothing earth shattering, but tasty nonetheless! read more

We have been eating at this family run gem for almost 20 years. when my daughter was small they had a dedicated bag of pinto beans they used instead of a high chair, I loved that! The food is by far one of our gastronomic communities best! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Finally tried it after years of being a customer at Cafe Poca Cosa. The chorizo and eggs are amazing, melts in your mouth. Small and colorful salad (even at breakfast), rice and beans. It's loud, no-frills, and they only take cash, but that's character - love it or hate it. I've gone there for breakfast alone, but was really impressed when I took my kids - the owner put tortillas and a small rice/beans plate on the table for each of them, and made sure they had booster seats, before I could blink. Genuinely kid-friendly places are hard to find, and Little Poca Cosa hits the bill. read more

If you want to eat somewhere where everyone makes you feel special you should go eat somewhere else. If you want to eat somewhere where it all feels special then you've come to the right place. You can feel the love here. In the food, in the service, in the space, and in the big jar for donations for all the stuff they work to support down south of the border, and in the to go containers that go through the front door to the homeless. You'll never have a bad meal here. Be careful or they'll overfeed you. It's always bustling except when it's not, lots of times the music is loud and sometimes there are hugs. Be sure you throw a twenty in the jar and enjoy the company, the food, and the love. Eat your salad and your beans, you won't be disappointed. read more

It would be nice for them to pony up and get the electronics to allow payment via card or accept checks not just cash. I ended up taking a 3% interest on the fee to get cash as well as a $6 penalty just to pay for my meal. The service was exceptional, our waitress was not obtrusive while being prompt in checking on us, it was slow so I can't say how it'd be when busy. The ambiance is enjoyable, I like the "fence" that takes you away from the street surrounding you when outside. We weren't interested in lunch but got there around 10a, lunch starts at 11. We were actually looking to find another restaurant which I think the waitress picked up on. She was so kind as to ask the chefs about lunch and served it to us an hour early. The food was great however wasn't rally hot more warm which was a bit surprising. The barbacoa was moist and flavorful, the chipotle sauce was sweet with a nice follow of slight heat, the mole was yummy but most surprising was how much I enjoyed the rice! It was packed full of flavor! I got the half coffee half horchata which was good but I like El Charros horchata more. The mango drink was simply delicious! Definitely will be back for more .... Tip: Make sure you have cash, and bring your own Tupperware if you plan to have leftovers. You'll also have to bring your own straw too, if that's how you like to drink your beverage. They're unique and I applaud the restaurant for their "green" efforts. The food is delish and the service is fast - but I feel a little rushed whenever I'm there during the lunch hour. It's pretty loud and hectic and there's usually a wait. You can see from my photo that it's not a huge space. Not a deal breaker, I'm just trying to write a review that's helpful in regards to the atmosphere (and not only the food). I had not been to this place in a long while. This is one of the best local restaurants in Tucson. You can only catch them for breakfast and lunch. The food here is so authentic in flavor and the restaurant ambient and staff make it fun. Today I had my favorite Pollo en Mole Negro, Chicken with Mole Negro sauce. The flavor in this dish has not changed and it is unique and unforgettable. You also need to know that they make about the only edible Mexican rice in town. Your plate comes with a salad and fruit. You also get a side of some top notch Frijoles Caldudos, whole beans in broth. You really waddle out of this restaurant. the portions are big and you dare not leave anything in the plate (it is so delicious you will kick yourself later if you do). You also have to sample the big menu of Aguas Frescas, delicious concoctions to accompany you meal. read more

Cute place with great service and awesome food. Tried their mango peach juice, which was not overly sweet and had nice amount of pulp. I ordered the pollo en mole negro, which was one of the best mole's I've ever had. The sauce was so flavorful, creamy, and the chicken was so tender. We came on a Friday during lunch time and it was packed right around noon-time and we ended up waiting about 10 min or so. Servers are attentive, quick, and friendly. Will definitely go again! read more

If you are visiting Tucson this place is a must! If you live in Tucson and have not eaten here, what is wrong with you? The Little One is home! It represents Tucson with great food and when you leave the owner always gives our her warm hugs. You are not just a guest but family. The food is amazing, fresh and beautifully plated. A beautiful meal made especially for you with love. When I say love I mean it! They pour their hearts into making fresh Mexican food that is cooked with love and friendship. This place is a must. Little Cafe Poca Cosa is just as good as the big Poca Cosa but more intimate. They only accept cash and you aren't able to customize your orders- but why would you!? The food is great and the sign is true, HUGS when you come in and HUGS when you leave. If you don't like being touched than this is not the place for you. It is small, hence the name "The Little One" but it fits the ambiance. It is there for you to eat breakfast and lunch, not to stay and linger- hug, eat, enjoy, hug again and go about your day. read more

Established in 1985.

Our restaurant started when one of the 3 Davila sisters (Susanna) decided she wanted to start a restaurant and pretty soon after that the other two sisters(Sandra and Marcela) wanted a part in the restaurant fun. Thus, with the help of their dad The Little One was born. The main recepi's are the same since we've opened but, our specials add a little extra Davila girl flare. Unfortunately due to covid-19 we are only offering air hugs and kisses!

Meet the Business Owner: MARCELA DAVILA D.

Marcela is officially the last Davila Sister continuing her father's legacy here at The Little One! She has pioneered through some of the scariest of times (covid) and still serves some of the most delicious Mexican food Tucson Az has to offer since 1985. Come drop by and try for yourself!

The food did not have any weird taste, it wasn't dry, the presentation was fine. It simply needs to be seasoned and this place goes to a solid 4/5 rather than a three.

The service was commendable truly some of the sweetest and most attentive service we've experienced in a long time. We started with freshly made chips and salsa, which were an instant hit. For drinks, we ordered the El Tamarindo, Mangopeno, and Monica's Cafetini. For food, we chose the Vegan Jackfruit Taquitos Trio and the Fresh Corn Tamale Platter, which came with a side of squash. The drinks were excellent, with the Mangopeno being my favorite. But the real star of the meal was the tamale platter. Oh my goodness it was absolutely delicious! Everyone at the table kept digging in and couldn't get enough. Even the squash side was so flavorful that we ordered an extra serving. The vegan jackfruit taquitos were a bit too deep-fried for our liking and didn't quite compare to the incredible tamales. To finish, we shared a caramel flan, which was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The pricing was very reasonable, the service was exceptional, and the food was memorable. It's not fancy, but the service and the food are exceptional :-) Tip: The restaurant is only open until 2pm, so dinner isn't an option, but it's totally worth a stop for lunch! Bear in mind that they don't take credit cards, so be sure to bring cash. Last time we ate here, we shared the mole chicken and the green corn tamales. Both dishes were simply wonderful, and the complimentary salsa they serve with the chips is outstanding; it's very refreshing, and has a really nice kick to it. I glad I stumbled upon this place. I was in town for an interview at U of A and after checking into my hotel, I asked the hotel staff if they knew of a good restaurant nearby. They pointed me to this one and boy was I pleased. I could not really understand the menu too much, so I asked the courteous staff for a recommendation so they brought out the chefs special which is a plate of three random things. The food was great, I stuffed myself with a bunch of chips and salsa (Ill never learn) before I got my entree. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Its a great place for lunch or a date. I can't begin to say enough amazing things about Little Cafe Poca Cosa. The food there is always incredibly prepared and tastes like nothing else you can get in Tucson. The owner serves you and provides recommendations on the ever changing menu. You can't go wrong with the chef's plate which gives you a random (or tailored) three items from you the menu. Parking is small, but there are options to park on the side streets. We came here for tacos, one night and breakfast burritos another time. In terms of their lunch/dinner options, I highly recommend their Sonoran hotdog, with the option for melted cheese on the inside of the bun. Delicious! Their Carne Asada taco is also very tasty, in addition to the homemade salsa that they bring out with your meal. The fish taco was OK, but I would probably opt for their meat tacos rather than seafood. Their breakfast burritos are also very tasty. They are well seasoned and do not skimp on the fillings. There are some seats inside, as well as an outdoor covered patio. If you sit outside, they also bring your order to you, so you don't have to worry about staying inside and waiting.

She offered to allow me to try the foods that we didn't enjoy over. I took her upon her offer. I tried the al pastor tacos and quesadillas. They were fresh and you can tell that the meat was marinated well. I also had a Sonoran dog which was amazing. Everything was delicious. I love supporting local businesses and would definitely recommend going to tell. And they have new desserts that I will come back and try. Ambiance was clean and inviting.

Wish they had whole beans to round out the plate, refrieds only. Didn't try the rice. Salsa Bar is awesome with pickled red onions and Ladles are labeled so you know whatcha pouring haha.
