Chicken quesadillas and Spanish BBQ beef tacos
Toni P.

As soon as we walked into the restaurant we were greeted and seated immediately. We got our drinks right away and dug into the crab balls appetizer special. We asked for cocktail sauce, and the chef made a special batch for us! It was spicy, and just perfect! The quesadillas and beef tacos were delicious. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. They even had Non-alcoholic beer for my partner!! Decor is somewhat outdated... but food is delicious and reasonably priced.

No stars! Horrible. $21.95 for steak and shrimp kabobs came with quinoa and vegetables. Well there were 2 shrimp 2 pieces of steak and 2 pieces of pink scallops on the kabobs. The quinoa was weird looking. The vegetables of the day were apparently the 2 pieces of peppers on the kabobs. Waiter forgot to bring our appetizer before our meal. Ice tea was horrible!

The Portabella burger was fantastic. Great drinks, romantic atmosphere, and super clean. A must visit if you are in the area.

This is the spot to get hamburgers in Gettysburg. Theirs are huge, made of prime meat, and…read morepresented hot & juicy. I always order my burger medium-rare, and that's what I get here. I can't tell you how many times that medium is what I usually get when requesting medium-rare at restaurants. There's a big difference between the two in terms of internal temperature, center color, and texture. This place knows how to properly cook a medium-rare burger, and for me, that's a sign of quality and sets it apart. The sidewinder fries are fab as are the homemade potato chips and either comes with burgers. The dressing on the coleslaw needs some seasoning, but the slaw itself is fresh and crunchy. The Maryland crab soup is pretty slammin', too. I favor the back dining room, not the bar (in front). These 2 areas have different vibes. The back room feels like the way a burger joint should be. The bar is, well, more bar-ish. One of the servers, Brody, provides exceptional service--a shout out to him. This establishment's name is playful and clearly informs the customer as to what their specialty is: hamburgers. I bought one of their T-shirts, perhaps that says it all.

I've never had a bad burger here and always order the smash patties - I just enjoy them more. Two burgers and two beers were less than $50 with a tip - can't beat that in a tourist town. We'll be back soon!

It's been quite a while since my wife stopped here to dine... probably 5+ years…read more I've noticed that in the 17 years I've been in Gettysburg y this restaurant is #1 still here, and #2 continues a level of food service that both the locals and tourists enjoy. My wife and I both had the shrimp baskets and two soft drinks for lunch. The shrimp baskets were $17 each and the soft drinks $3 each. With tax and tips the total bill came to $50. The shrimp were obviously pre-battered and frozen but they were pretty tasty. The french fries had some kind of a nice crispy coating and were excellent. The coleslaw was pretty tired. The service was cordial and quick. The decor is as I remembered very nice. There is free parking behind this restaurant, but not many people know it is there. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I think that the cost of the luncheon was a little more than it should've been for what we received. Had the shrimp been coated with a batter and fried from scratch (instead of being taken out of a frozen bag) I might've been able to award five stars. But... All in all this restaurant continues to hold its "very good to excellent" reputation for food and service over many years. I would die there again and I would recommend it with no reservations.

We were there on a busy Saturday; they were clearly slammed and probably understaffed, and it took a bit over 20 minutes after ordering to get our food. Other than the wait for the kitchen, the service at the table was very good. It felt a bit pricey at about $62 for two with tip. Cheesesteaks were good but on the small side for $17 and $19 (the latter on a gluten‑free bun), and a little light on the Cheese Whiz. That, plus a cider and a Coke, left the overall experience somewhat underwhelming.

He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container. I ate it on the drive home and it was still moist and delicious.

My uncle ordered a cup of chili to start. It was served hot which is always a bonus. Not too spicy even though it had a spice label next to it on the menu. The presentation was nice as it's served with 4 tortilla chips. My Aunt opted for the babyback ribs served with fries. My uncle's main dish was the soft shell crab tacos while I went with the brisket mac and cheese and side Caesar salad. These items, with exception of the salad, were on a separate menu, likely seasonal. The servings are large (even the side salad)! I barely put a dent in my Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed that the brisket that was "folded" within my MAC and cheese was playing Hide-and-seek. I would prefer more protein in that dish based on the quantity of pasta. The salad was well-dressed. At most restaurants I have to add caesar dressing to the salads. I washed it down with a sweet tea while my Uncle tried the White Birch beer. My aunt thought the baby back ribs were dry, and had a bit too much sauce on it. It would have been nice to have less sauce on the ribs, with additional sauce on the side. My uncle did not think the soft shell crab tacos were all that (although novel), which is probably why he ordered. It had more batter on it, and one can barely taste the crab. He said he would not order it again. As residents they will not go back to this restaurant anytime soon, and can't really recommend it unless someone just wants to try give it a try. I'll have to try the root beer on my next visit. Our waiter was very attentive and the volume in the restaurant was reasonable enough to have table conversations. I definitely recommend stopping at one of these locations if you're visiting or passing through.

That was bad; worse was the brain dead girl who saw my blood on my hand and knee ( my knee was bad) and instead of saying "let me tell me manager and are you OK?"
