We've been coming here for years, but unfortunately this year, the experience wasn't quite up to par. The atmosphere is always comfortable and the views of the ocean are wonderful. Services always usually good. However the food quality went down considerably. When they give you the cheese and crackers that they used to give a plentiful selection of crackers. This time it was limited. Also, instead of having a cheddar cheese mix to spread on the crackers, it was more like garlic butter. Next came the Quahog chowder. In the past I remember being thicker and more flavorful. Then I had the grilled salmon which was overcooked on the outside giving it an overly crisp outer side. The dill butter wasn't what I remembered in the past. The rice was bland and instead of fresh steamed spinach it was all clumped together. To make matters worse, the prices have gone up astronomically and they include a non cash fee, which is mostly unheard of in fine dining restaurants. This is something you'd expect in a pizza parlor. I now subtract tax and fees and tip on the meal prior. We might not return, but if we do, it probably won't be for a long time. read more

We made reservations to sit outside for dinner and arrived on time only to be told that they are not serving food outside, only cocktails. No staffing they said. We settled in at our table by the window to order the mussels. They were flavorful in a white wine sauce served with French fries and ketchup? Never had mussels served with fries before but they call them frites? Anyway by the time we finished with the mussels, we see they are now serving food on the patio. Becoming annoyed that we specifically asked to be seated outside for dinner, we asked why we couldn't do the same. We were told they were only serving appetizers outside now. I ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi and hubby had the lobster pizza. For the prices, we should have had lobster on the pizza we could actually see and recognize. Keep in mind they put red sweet peppers on the pizza so it appears there is more lobster than there is. Needless to say, disappointed in the atmosphere and service. Had reservations for a New Year's Eve family celebration, perhaps not the best night to go to a popular restaurant. We were seated a few minutes after our reservation time. The place was hopping! Food was good. 2 people ordered grilled swordfish, I ordered baked scallops, one ordered baked cod, one the baked stuffed shrimp, one the fried fish plate and one the bouillabaisse. Problem was - apparently, they only serve the dinner menu at noon on Sunday. Wish the website mentioned that. Our meal plan wad thwarted. Wanting a light meal, I ordered kobster bisque & a basic salad. The Bisque was "meh". Super salty - maybe from a lobster base? Disappointing from a place with Lobster in their name. Plus - the bowl didn't look much bigger rhan rhe cup. My partner's fish & chips was rather small, very heavily battered & greasy. Again, meh at best. first of all if you plan on going on a Sunday, one site says they are closed but then another says they are open. we have been here plenty of times before I have never been disappointed until. We stopped in on a Friday night for our wedding anniversary. The atmosphere is great- right on the water, you get a great view of the water from almost any spot in the restaurant. We called ahead for a reservation, but you can walk-in for outdoor seating. We, of course, tried the lobster options- one boiled and one Fishermen's Style lightly baked with scallops. The traditional boil was great while the Fishermen's Style was slightly overdone. It's a great spot to stop by. The only caveat is that they can get really busy which means you could end up like us, waiting an hour for the check. read more

We met some friends in Bristol for dinner at the Lobster Pot. Since 1929, The Lobster Pot has provided Rhode Islanders with delicious land and sea options on their large menu. The Lobster Pot's warm and attractive atmosphere is enhanced by a gallery of fine paintings and large windows where you can enjoy beautiful water views. It's a place to dine in all seasons, whereas you can enjoy a comfortable summer lunch on the patio or warm up to a cozy fireplace on a chilly winter's day. We sat down and Kyle our waiter was very quick to introduce himself and give us some menus. We noticed this nice plate of crackers and a cheese dip on the table, so we all got some...Delicious spread...just outstanding. We all finished the two little spread containers...it was so good. This is what we got. Two pound stuffed lobster - Stuffed with lobster meat and scallops, it was done very well and a large plate. Very good. Scrod - A bit small and a bit bland, but not bad. Lobster roll sandwich - A good size sandwich with lots of lobster meat. Delicious. Burger - prepared medium as requested. It was juicy but a bit bland on the taste. Scallops - Nice dish but the sides (rice and asparagus) were tiny.....About the amount you would give a toddler....seriously....not enough. We have eaten here many times over the years. It has a reputation for nice ambiance (it is right on the water), consistently good food, and it was expensive, but the quality made it worthwhile for a special occasion. That said, we happened to be in the neighborhood in June and thought it would be nice to order takeout. The order was for 1 Lobster Roll and two orders of their onion rings. While it is true we had not been there in a while, when I was handed the bill for the order and saw $42 for the lobster roll, I was speechless. I thought there had been a mistake. It wasn't, which speaks for itself. The Blue Kangaroo in Barrington has a special for $20. Given this was the Lobster Pot, I would not have been surprised if it were $25 or slightly higher, but $42 was stunning to say the least. In their defense, there was a generous portion of fresh meat (see photo). It came with a pickle, a tomato slice, a small dish of coleslaw, and a very nice takeout container that could be used at home for leftovers, as it was dishwasher safe and microwavable, but even with that, we could not get our head around $42. Maybe I had it on lower reviews, so this is to counter those. I made reservations and saw bad ones after. I'm traveling from Florida. I almost changed my mind but the realtor guy on You Tube mentioned this place. Anyway. I travel and live in much larger towns. I eat escargot most times on menu. This was top 3 or best. My bouillabaisse was insane. So much seafood. Delicious. If I was being picky shrimp and scallops can get more done sitting in the heat. Still absolutely amazing dish. My wife took me here for a special birthday meal. But it was special in so many of the wrong ways. First, they sat us right next to the kitchen entrance even tho there were plenty of good tables. BUT they didn't argue when we told them we preferred another table, so that gives them an extra star in my rating. Then, I ordered a Margherita cocktail. I told the waitress how I liked it made (no mixer junk, just the real ingredients) and she asked me "Do you want salt?" I said I did. However when I got it (it came in a 16oz pint glass, like one gets beer in-weird), I noticed it had sugar on the rim. She looked surprised but took it away. I swear she dumped the drink out, cleaned the glass, put salt on the rim, and then dumped my drink back into the pint glass. Wouldn't an upscale place make the patron a brand new drink? And using only tequila, Grand Mariner, and fresh lime juice- there is NO WAY it would fill that glass. That'd be like 4 drinks, so I know they just used mixer. The table centerpiece was a plate with about 6 Ritz crackers & 10 Wheat Thins crackers, surrounding a ramikin of that soft orange cheese spread. The kind that comes out at Christmas usually in a ball that has walnuts coating the outside. Really? Ritz & Wheat Thins? No warm rolls. Nothing. I serve better stuff to my friends. Then a 1.5 pound baked, stuffed lobster cost a whopping $68! A 2 pounder was $90! Really? I bought one and ate it, but only because it was my birthday. My wife got a thin (1/2") slab of plain swordfish (cooked very nicely I will say), on a plate with 7 asparagus spears. Nothing else was on the plate. Nothing. And a side bowl of plain rice. The rice was described as herbed jasmine rice. Since it obviously was not herbed, my wife questioned the waitress. She brought it to the kitchen and returned with it having had some oily greenish sauce poured onto it. This place made NO attempt to adorn their food or make it look attractive. The food was just placed onto white plates and served. Not even parsley! Absolutely no attempt at presentation. What gets me, is that this place was packed with people. These people are either rich boaters who don't give a damn about how they spend their money. Or else just people who don't know that there are WAY better places to eat, especially if you are plunking down about $100/head. I will never go back there. And YOU shouldn't throw your hard earned money out by going here either. I will end by saying the steamers we had as an appetizer were really really good. Go there and only buy them. Sooooooo... I still love The Lobster Pot, it has given me years of great memories and meals, but friends... something must be said. My beloved lobster pizza has been tampered with, and I can't sit idly by. We *always* come and usually drive well out of way for our meal, one time in the pouring rain, but that's how much we love the food. This time the pizza was almost inedible; so unnecessarily salty, swimming in cheese, the vegetables were scarce, and the lobster was there but barely. I don't know why there was that level of cheese, and then additional salt on top of the sodium content of the cheese. If this had been my first experience, our tradition of always stopping by would've never developed. I think there's a new chef or something... somebody needs to give them the original photo and tell them to aim for that. Pleasantly surprised after a nice Father's Day lunch here as a party of 3. 2 of us got lobster rolls and 1 got baked stuffed shrimp. For appetizer we ordered a Bristol harbor plate which has 4 oysters, 4 littlenecks, and 2 large shrimp. All in all it was great albeit very pricy. the oysters and littlenecks were very fresh. It's totally not worth the price (coming to 2.60 a piece!) but we ordered it as this was a special occasion. Overall pretty substantial portions on our entrees. The lobster rolls were very fresh, fries were good and hot and crispy, and the baked stuffed shrimp looked well made with 4 massive shrimp and big sides. The drinks were meh. I got a gin and tonic and it was just alright. Another person in our party got a martini but the glass arrived dirty with lipstick on it, which is never what you want to see. The waiter kindly brought another but not the best impression. Overall the prices were super high but this is not known for being a budget/affordable restaurant or known for value. It was a great special occasion and overall a good meal despite the price. btw- The $10 blanket up-charge for ANY lobster dish was communicated in poor taste and makes little business sense. A restaurant such as the lobster pot can surely afford to print new menus with updated pricing with current cost plus markup, per dish. It's not fair to impose the same surcharge amount regardless of the dish, as one could order a several lb lobster and pay the same $10 up-charge as someone else who orders a salad with a small amount of lobster on it. The management should redo the menu with a X% price increase, or better, write "MP" on all lobster dishes and print a paper menu supplement with current pricing. Not having a menu with current pricing seemed less than classy at such a high end restaurant. The waiter also mentioned the up-charge only AFTER we ordered our food, which was shady, slick, and tasteless. read more

True confession: I had very low expectations for the Lobster Pot, as it looks like a nondescript roadside eatery at first pass. When we stepped inside, there were very few people sitting at the tables and at the bar, which is a mixed bag in and of itself. On one hand, I was starving, and happy to see there would be no wait for a table. On the other hand, if there's no one there, maybe it's because the restaurant is terrible? Hope not! However, my worries were quickly assuaged when we were escorted out to the lovely patio seating, which features a gorgeous view of the waterfront and the boats bobbing in the harbor. It was a wonderful and warm late summer day, and I was suddenly grateful for the lack of company outside - we could simply sit and enjoy nature. Sigh. I wasn't too distracted to check out the menu, though! The Lobster Pot, as the name suggests, is known for their lobster (duh), but if you aren't a fan, there's plenty more options, including Calf's Liver, if that's what you're into. I didn't go that route, thankfully, and opted for a Shrimp Cocktail as a starter and the Grilled Salmon Salad as an entree. The Shrimp Cocktail came out first, along with some fresh Italian bread that was soft and pillowy. Our awesome server, Matthew, told us that they get it in daily from a local bakery down the road in neighboring Barrington. I am embarrassed to say how many slices I had! The shrimp was also impressive. The pieces were sizable, and very fresh. I also liked the presentation of the dish, on a rustic looking iron tray. I was so hungry that I forgot to snap a photo! The entrees followed shortly after. While my Grilled Salmon Salad looked simple and small, it was quite tasty and filling! The aforementioned salmon was tender and cooked perfectly, and the grilled peppers, asparagus, and tomatoes were nice additions. It made for a refreshing lunch. My grandparents, who I was dining with, enjoyed their Baked Stuffed Lobsters, and I snuck a piece of the lobster tail, which was meaty and flavorful. The only bummer of the entree course was the disappointing side dish selection. They didn't have the option for steamed veggies as a side, and I was kind of miffed about that. We got pickled beets on the side, and I saw the servers preparing the dish from an industrial bucket of beets. Eek. We passed on those. Everything else was great, though! The Lobster Pot is a nice place to visit on a sunny day whilst driving through Bristol. We went for an early dinner. We're seated at a window with a beautiful view of the water. Service was prompt and attentive. My 2x dry gin martini and my wife's cosmo were very good. Smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. the Lobster bisque had way too much tomato. Tasted more like tomato soup with lobster. not great. I had the ribeye med rare and it was was perfect and my wife's boiled lobster was pre-cracked with tail sliced so she could more easily access the deliciousness. My family and I came for a late Easter lunch this year. First of all, the building/ambiance needs an updating. The food was fine, nothing special. The BIGGEST reason for me writing this review was the staff. We had a few random helpful staff members who were clearing tables and assisting others (especially Mike Z). The problem was our main server. She was in a CRABBY mood- everything we asked for was a problem, we got many eye rolls and she sassed my father in law because she couldn't understand him (to be clear- she was super rude about it and did not ask nicely for him to repeat himself). The kicker is- my father in law had a stroke a year ago which affects his speech. There is NO reason (bad day, mad your working a holiday, whatever!) to talk to someone the way she did. Unsure of her name but she has dark hair with a gray/white stripe in the front. I know from experience that it is stressful being a server especially on a holiday but it was a very uncomfortable experience for my family. Will be looking elsewhere for Easter next year. read more
