Over my most recent last two visits here, I am sad to say I feel the place has gone downhill - at least in the non-hibachi area. The waitresses are terrible they have no people skills and ultimately rush you to order right away and rush you out when we barely finished eating "want your check now?" literally when we took the last bite. It wasn't crowded and we were only there maybe 20 minutes. The rushing really thrown me to not want to be back and I saw her doing it to others. If I didn't want to ruin the mood of our day, I would have said something to the owner, that is not how you have a business. Additionally was disappointed at how small the peppered tuna got - it used to be fresh larger rectangle size strips and nearly all cold but the edges, today they were small triangular sized and overcooked. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with our hibachi experience here at Watami. We had an excellent chef which made the hibachi part super fun. The food was absolutely delicious! The salad and soup to start had such wonderful taste. I ordered the hibachi chicken and filet with fried rice. All of it sooooooo good. I love the vegetables also. I could probably go and just get the vegetables and rice. I cannot wait to come back. The reason for the 4 stars. The staff at the desk seemed less than thrilled to be there. No one greeted us. We had to keep getting their attentions to ask questions. 2 were on their phones. But hey! The food and the cook and our waitress were great! read more

Went to Watami last night for dinner. Some of our party was late so we could not be seated until they knew their order. We had a drink at the front bar while we waited. They have a keyboard that you can stand on and it lights up. Im sure its a lot of fun for kids since 40 year olds enjoyed it. Once seated our orders were taken and the chef came out shortly after. Harry was our chef and was amazing!!!! He seriously put on such a great show. All of our food was amazing and a perfect night. It was my sisters birthday so they even brought out cake and sang to her. I found that the menu was pricey. It was my first time going to a hibachi dinner in a long time so maybe its normal now? Good restaurant. I have tried their Sushi Rolls and one coktail drink. Tuna Lover Roll: I love Tuna and this roll was perfect for my taste. Kiss of Fire Roll: A little too spicy but delicious. The drink I had, was the reason why I didn't give 5 stars. It's cheap (6 dollars) but I didn't like it at all. It made me cringe. My friend says It's ok, so I could be a little picky. None of us drank it though. Overall, it was good. I liked the atmosphere. It's absolutely worth the prices. read more

YIKES. Awful service, stressful experience. Waited nearly AN HOUR for food!!! We walked in and asked the hostess if we could have hibachi within a one hour time limit. She confidently said yes and that the chef would be out in 15 minutes maximum. THIRTY MINUTES LATER, the chef was still nowhere to be seen. We had to switch to dine-out as it was supposed to be faster. TWENTY FIVE MINUTES AFTER THAT we finally got our original order. We had to immediately pack our food in to go boxes and rush out of the door. Also, I got 10 bite sized pieces of steak cooked medium well when I ordered rare. This was my 2nd time coming here. It was delicious. And the portions are very generous.. I took home enough for 2 leftovers after I had already ate a good bit. The salad dressing is probably the best I've tasted at a hibachi restaurant. This was the 1st time having the salmon. I was very pleased and will be back visiting again soon. read more

Salad sported a creamy ginger dressing which was exceptional! The soup was spot on. Filet and chicken combo comes with rice (fried or steamed) or noodles...the noodles are excellent and steak, chicken and vegetables were seasoned to perfection. I have been to Watami for lunch a couple of times as well as take out and it is always very good. I have yet to try the hibachi but I can imagine it is very good. The restaurant always seems to be busy. I get sushi and miso soup and it is consistently good. The avocado roll is my favorite. I would not say it is the best sushi in the whole world but for West Mifflin Pa it is very good! I really like their miso soup; it is very flavorful and delicious. It is very reasonably priced as well. I definitely think if you live around here and have never been you need to stop in and grab some sushi. read more

Watami is some of the best sushi around for the price! It's subtly located in a strip of shops next to a FedEx but don't let the exterior fool you. When you walk inside, there's a modern and clean interior, and its much larger with more seating than you'd think from outside. We came for sushi, so we're seated in the back dining room. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She also let us know that all of the special rolls were buy one, get one half off... such a great deal for the already affordable pricing. Their drink menu is very affordable, too (glasses of wine for $5)! I ordered the Watami roll and the Kiss of Fire roll. The shrimp tempura in the Watami roll tasted a bit different than usually, but overall, both rolls were very flavorful and fresh! I have come here a few times and it's my favorite sushi place in Johnstown! The people are incredibly friendly and are always working really hard. It's a smaller area for dining in but I have never had an issue getting a table. I love this place and highly recommend it for really good sushi for very fair prices! read more

Portions are huge here. We ordered the spider roll and the shrimp tempura platter was huge! We had so much leftovers for the 2 of us.

Decent. The hibachi chefs were entertaining, and the food was pretty good. My only negatives; 1. All of the shrimp was not deveined. 2. The hibachi chef or waitress (I'm not sure who was at fault because I did not see the order ticket used to show who is getting what from the hibachi grill), BUT a lady on the other end of the table opted for no veggies. When the chef offered the veggies she took them anyway... by the time the chef got to me there were no veggies left, and I LOVE HIBACHI VEGGIES! The chef had to go to the kitchen to retrieve an order and cook it separately. I decided to try out this hibachi restaurant instead of the one I regularly go to, and overall I am satisfied! When we walked in we were greeted by multiple hostesses and seated right away. Our server was very sweet even though we could tell she was tremendously busy. She never once had an attitude or seemed upset. The overall prices were a couple dollars cheaper then other hibachi spots in the surrounding areas and my beer was $4. When you sit down you receive your drinks and the soup and salad. The salads dressing is a white ginger dressing which I believe may be mayo based, and the soup was decent. I am a fan of the orange ginger dressing better. I ordered the Vegetable Hibachi. Each hibachi dish only comes with either rice or noodles unless you tell them other wise. Our chef was somewhat interactive, just a little quiet. He did toss vegetables in the air for us to try and catch in our mouth which was fun! He also squirted saké in some people mouth as he counted up to see how long they could do it for. The food was very flavorful and not cooked too fast that we felt rushed. All in all, I would return to this restaurant. read more

Went to Watami tonight and oh what a little treasured nestled in Pleasant Hills area of Pittsburgh. There is limited parking - fed ex shares the lot with them so if they are busy there would be limited spaces. The wait was not that bad (we got there around 7:30 on a rainy Saturday night)... and one of the Hibachi tables was clearing out. So we only had to wait about 10 min or so. Note: if you don't want hibachi - they do have standard tables and you can order from the kitchen. We sat down - got drinks and the next thing you know your placing your order. First out - soup and salad... I really liked the finer dressing these folks use. I got the chicken hibachi with extra rice --- which one helping is fairly decent sized but we like left over rice :). My nephew got the chicken and steak and it was cooked perfectly and the steak was tender. Chef comes out and oh what a show he put on! He engages with the guests - all the guests at his table - I really enjoyed that even when he had fun with the kids at the table. The food and entertainment far exceeded expectations... plus - in my opinion - better than the other hibachi one the area (you know... the one that starts with a "B"). Oh.... one last thing .. the Bathrooms are clean - tells a lot about a restaurant. :). read more

Didn't try the hibachi, but tried some food from the a la carte menu. There is a lot of space in the dining room which gives some comfort for dining during COVID times. Overall verdict: The sushi is great, but I'd skip the Pad Thai. Sushi roll was, I tried the "King Salmon" roll and it was perfect. Fish tasted fresh and it was visually appealing and came together deliciously. I also had a Pad Thai to share, but the Pad Thai unfortunately fell a bit short. Not enough peanuty flavor for my liking and the pad thai sauce made everything kinda reddish, which isn't my typical vibe for Pad Thai. On the plus side, the portion was huge. Service was great in terms of water refilling, etc, although a tad rushed (no asking about dessert, just dropped check off). All in all; it's a decent place and close to the Alleghany County airport. read more

Really enjoy this place, and hope they can keep up the good work. It is very clean, inviting, and the staff have been wonderful so far. Great service, and the food has been very good. As someone who has gone to all of the local Hibachi/Sushi places in the surrounding areas, I would have to say that Watami's Sushi is superior to most of the other places. As for their regular food items, I would say they are equal. I have been here three times since they opened, and while I think their sushi is the best in the area, I would say the regular food does not stand out against anyone else. It is "as good" as the other places in this category. However, because the sushi IS so much better, we will be coming here from here on out. I would point out, though, that I personally think the ginger dressing they use for their salad IS better than the other local places. Highly recommend the Watami Roll and the Spicy Butterfly Roll. We were seated super fast during lunch it was no one inside when I first came it but shortly it started to fill up. I had the pick any three rolls and the chicken hibachi it was hot and the sushi was so fresh I couldn't stop eating it. I absolutely adore Watami. We found this place early into the pandemic. It was takeout only early on but we didn't care. We just missed hibachi food so much two months into the pandemic. We each ordered a meal and wow so much food!!!! We ordered takeout a few more times and sometimes even shared an entree because it came with so much. Finally last year we got to go in real life! So fun as all hibachi are. They are great and I find the food more flavorful than other hibachi places. Highly recommend. Def my fav in pgh read more

Love the sushi. I rate the restaurant on how there sushi is. And I wasn't disappointed. Hibachi fried rice I love. Few of the the other hibachi restaurants fried rice just don't have flavor.
