Went there for a quick drink on March 14th, 2021 and NO ONE was wearing a mask. Not the bartenders, not the chef cooking food, and none of the customers ordering drinks (besides us). Currently still in a pandemic and knowing that the chef or bartenders could easily spread their covid germs to others and continue the spread of the virus is astonishing. I was at The Local 3 nights last week, including Christmas Day. Wings and ranch were great! Mark, one of the bartenders, is one of the best bartenders I've ever had the privilege of serving me food and drinks. I got to see it over 3 different nights, kept coming back! On Christmas Day, it was crazy! Mark handled it with a calm demeanor and everything was accurate and still good. I will for sure come back, because of Mark. Mark, great job! read more

Solid lunch spot! I was pleasantly surprised because i expected generic bar food. They had really good sandwich options...it was hard to choose. I got the Pepper jack macaroni bites, which were delicious. I also got the Queen Dip (French Dip) but with really good caramelized onions. It came with a side of sweet potato tots (get the honey mustard with them!!) All in all a good choice. My friends Buffalo chicken grilled cheese also looked solid. read more

I am a Giants fan and I came here because it is the Giants bar in Charlotte. I was excited to see what this place was all about. It wasn't overly crowded and I was able to sit and watch the game no problem. They had a decent craft beer selection and had some good beer specials. I thought it was weird that they changed their food menu for football Sunday's. It was mostly fried appetizers so that was disappointing. I did however see nachos come out that looked awesome but way to much for one person. I did have a small problem while I was there. I went to the bathroom and they had cleaned my table with my half finished beer. I assume it wasn't my waitress as when she came back to my table I told her about it and she seemed not to know about it. She did however bring me another one so all was made up. I would come back here again with someone to hopefully get the nachos. read more

I went on a Saturday night. DJ AHUF, their resident Saturday DJ, was amazing! A great mix of everything and even catered to the Black crowd as well. It's so hard finding places in Charlotte that plays music that I enjoy. The Local is doing it right! I hope to visit again soon and have the same experience. The crowd wasn't really diverse, as expected, but I felt super comfortable to enjoy my friends. There's a $10 minimum on cards, so bring cash! I'd like to preface this review by saying I've had many successful nights here at trivia or late night, and I've also had a successful lunch here. Because of that successful lunch, I planned a lunch here with old coworkers as I thought it'd be a great casual spot with super good food. 4 of us arrived right at noon and ordered as most people had a 1 o'clock meeting. 2 of us ordered wings, 1 ordered mac and cheese, and the other ordered a french dip. The rest of the 5-6 people arrived shortly after and placed their orders. As 1 began to come closer those people who had 1 o clock meetings asked for their meals to be packed up to go and try to cash out. 1 person was able to successful accomplish this, and 1 person was overcharged but wasn't able to address it as the employees were starting to get super annoyed as there was a full restaurant and nobody had food. The third first round orderer did end up getting his food, but mine was nowhere in sight. Eventually at 1 we received a stack of to go orders. 3 of the meals placed on our table were not ours so I returned them and I never received my order. I ended up cancelling mine and leaving empty handed as it somehow got lost in translation. I'm really sad writing this but after we left a few of my old colleagues told me the employees checking them out were really rude to them. Nobody apologized to me about my order getting lost. I was really excited to find a cheaper and decent lunch spot but I think after today I won't be able to come back :(. read more

I'm a little shocked that this place is still open, especially during the pandemic. I went in to grab dinner last night and was a bit surprised to see how many people were packed into the place and no one, including none of the staff, was wearing a mask. The place was pretty unkept, but being a "dive bar", one should not assume that cleanliness is a top priority here. The food was on par with what you'd expect from a dive bar, and the priority of the staff was focused on what I assumed was their regular customers and not us. As I was waiting on my order, a health official walked in and spoke with one of the bartenders. After their discussion, the bar staff put on their masks and one of the bartenders put signs up about wearing masks when not seated. What was peculiar is that the bartender pulled these signs from behind the bar, which led me to believe that they had pulled the signs down for whatever reason. On their Yelp page, it says that they follow mask mandates, but that is not accurate.. They absolutely do not follow any mask mandates and the bar is way too small for social distancing, so temper your expectations if you do visit this place. Overall, this place is simply "meh". Came for trivia night-and we will be coming back! It was a fun and relaxed vibe. I really liked that the staff seemed happy to be there and to be enjoying themselves. I ordered my typical "one of everything" from the $5 happy hour appetizer list. The bartender was a bit surprised but also amused. I guess people don't do the appetizers all that seriously here? We also got several of the $4 wines which were the individual mini-bar-sized bottles of Sutter Home wines poured into stemless glasses (seemed like large red glasses rather than sized for the whites we ordered, if you want to be picky about it). I would have been fine to drink from the bottle, given the causal atmosphere and the smudgy glasses. No lipstick marks on the rims, though, so all good. There were 7 appetizers: hush puppies, mozzarella sticks, fried pickle slices (not spears), pretzel bites, spicy mac and cheese bites, nachos, and pork sliders-in order of most to least enjoyed. The hush puppies had a lovely onion flavor and were served with what seemed like a melted honey butter. The combination of sweet and savory was perfect and the texture was nice: crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The mozzarella sticks had all of the cheese leaked out of at least half of them, but I am just a sucker for mozzarella sticks every time. You may want to avoid if you are less of a cheese fanatic than I am. I liked the fried pickle slices because this was a new thing for me. Fun and juicy with a soft batter and a side of ranch. Probably would have preferred zucchini slices or mushrooms or cauliflower, but it was cool to do once. I'm generally not a huge fan of pretzels but they were in these nicely salted little bite sized pieces and came with a tiny side of slightly gritty beer cheese dipping sauce. Despite the questionable quality of the cheese, we did run out of it. I'd recommend ordering a second cup of the dipping sauce. This was actually the same cheese that was used on the nachos, similar grainy, mealy quality. But I digress. The mac and cheese bites weren't balls but short strips of Mac and cheese dipped in batter and deep fried. The cheese was a pepper jack so had a bit of a kick to it. It was served with the same ranch as the pickles so that fatty cool helped offset the spice. The nachos, aside from the beer cheese, were pretty generic. Only enough toppings (lettuce and tomato) to cover 1/3 of the chips, sour cream and pico in tiny little cups that can't be accessed by the chips (and no silverware to get them out of cups and onto nachos) so this dish ended up being a pretty big bust for us. Similarly with the sliders-the pork just didn't have any flavor and the cole slaw on it was disgusting. Luckily, there were three sliders and three people so no one had to go back for seconds. No one wanted to, either The trivia was fun. I really enjoyed that each round had a different theme, although some themes were more fun (movies that start with the letter M) than other themes (elementary school knowledge-only applies to people who grew up in a specific time range...). I'd definitely do it again, but bring a offer group next time! read more

The Local is a great little bar. It is a little divey but still a great place grab a beer and has quite a few TVs. The prices are pretty good and the food is definitely above average for a bar. This place was actually a decision we made to try based on the fact that they have a deal for $30 for $15 on the yelp app! So glad we did try it as we have been back several times since then! They have a really tasty black bean burger that I have grown rather attached too I must say. Its made in house and has so much flavor! I have also had the nachos that you can choose your typical proteins on but I have always opted for avocado instead. My guy has typically gotten the black bean burger as well and had a regular beef burger once that he said he also liked just as much. Drink specials are the usual that you would see at most bars although I do feel like I got a better pour here than I have other places which obviously is a huge win for anyone that likes to have adult beverages! The service has always been awesome every time we have come and we have sat at the bar and at a regular high top table. Parking is wellllll its uptown so its either awesome or a total nightmare and will always depend on what time you go, but go you should as this is a must in my book! read more

I have never experienced physical assault in my life until tonight. We spent several hours dancing and drinking the absolutely lowest quality alcohol, as we were leaving we asked the bouncer if we could wait under the awning until our Uber arrives. He said sure, all of a sudden another bouncer came out and started yelling at me. Telling me and my husband we had to leave. It was pouring down raining and as I tried to explain to him that our Uber driver was a block away he just kept screaming. Might I add he had terrible breath and he kept spitting on me as he yelled at me. He then put his hand on me and pushed me and my husband out into the rain. I expect better customer service after spending over a hundred dollars. Literally our Uber was one block away, yet he decided to yell and cuss and spit at us. We filed a police report. There are plenty of other places to go in Charlotte. read more

They have a rule that you can't wear a solid color shirt. So if you are wearing a black tee shirt, or a white tee shirt, or a grey tee shirt, they won't allow you in. But if you're wearing a blue tee shirt with a big Nike logo on it, then you can walk right in no problem. Most bizarre policy I've ever seen in my life. What is the reasoning? How can an athletic tee shirt with a huge emblem be more appropriate than a plain colored tee shirt? Makes no sense. Never coming back here out of principle. ZERO out of 5 stars - If you are black, please AVOID this restaurant! I've never been so blatantly discriminated against before in my life! I will never return and I will warn all others of the HORRIBLE service that awaiting them if they are ever unfortunate enough to walk through those doors. The waitress "Cat" was extremely rude and made my coworker & I extremely uncomfortable the moment we walked through the door. First of all, we came in the restaurant and walked straight to the bar. We stood up for 5 minutes before even being ACKNOWLEDGED and waited another 5 minutes before our order was taken. To make matters worse, "Cat" sat down a white couple who came in AFTER us and she took their order. She didn't even say HELLO! It was as if we were invisible. If you are racist, please do not bring it to work. Leave that at home and be professional....... I was in disbelief at how she didn't even acknowledge us standing up waiting to be served. At that point, my coworker & I were ready to leave, but we still decided to stay. But it got worse from there. After having to say hello to server FIRST, she finally acknowledged us and tock our order. We sat down to a table and waited for our food to be brought to us.. Cat brought our checks to the table before our food reached and the way she threw the receipts on the table, it was obvious she had no interest in serving us. Tonight was truly an example of what good people can accomplish. I had to place a catering order at 8 pm for 40 people. I was lucky enough Briana was working as she literally could not have been more helpful and kind. She helped rally the troops at the local to get our food ready in 90 minutes and even labeled each order for me; not a mistake was made. The staff was friendly and the live entertainment (Courtney Lynn) that drew us in was great. I can't really comment on the decor because we sat at one table near the door and just came and went.
