Island Style Fried Chicken is still bomb

I'm really still a fan of this place and now that we're getting older, my husband and I can no longer eat a whole plate, so we can share. However my eyes were bigger than my stomach today, so I got two. My husband loves Kalbi and I'm a fan of the Island Fried Chicken .... but my ultimate favorite here is their fried rice. It's THE BEST fried rice IMO, WAY better than I can make!! They charge extra for the fried rice, but it's so worth it and we actually got two meals each from all the food we got for $47 out the door. The cabbage salad isn't as good as I remember and it's basically cabbage and a few piece of raw instant ramen. The dressing is pretty basic too. Seems like a splash of rice vinegar. The potato salad is good and they can call it their own. It's got a substantial amount of black pepper in it, but very unique.

Unsuspecting good Hawaiian food! Now is this the best? No. I ordered the fried chicken. I upgraded to the spam fried rice, obviously. The cabbage salad is sooo good. Their Mac salad is good as well. The chicken needs sauce. They have house hot sauce and teriyaki. I mixed them to create this amazing sauce. Next time I'm in the area I'll come back.

Island Style Fried Chicken Plate and Korean Barbequed Beef Plate

My family and I ordered the Korean bbq beef and island style fried chicken. Both had so much flavor and huge portions. There was 4 of us and we only got the 2 platters that was the perfect amount of food. We upgraded to bacon fried rice that was super good! The cashier was very friendly and answered our questions we had about the menu. She brought up our food upstairs in the dining area for us too. She gave us all of the extra sauces as well. The restaurant was very clean and there was outdoor seating as well. We will definitely come back again!

One of the Best Hawaiian BBQ Spots I've Tried!…read more A friend finally brought me to his favorite Hawaiian BBQ spot (I guess he decided to stop gatekeeping ), and I'm so glad he did! I ordered the 2-Piece Boneless Chicken Plate with the spicy garlic sauce, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The chicken was incredibly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The seasoning paired perfectly with the spicy garlic sauce, making every bite delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the creamy mac salad had a nice peppery kick that complemented the meal really well. My only minor complaint was that the chicken was just a tad salty, but it wasn't enough to take away from the overall experience. The two women working the register were friendly, welcoming, and professional, greeting everyone with big smiles. The dining area inside was spotless, there was plenty of indoor seating, and parking was easy with lots of available spaces it was very clean! If you're looking for flavorful Hawaiian BBQ with crispy, juicy chicken and excellent customer service, this place is definitely worth a visit. I'd happily come back again. 9/10!

Recently, we found out that they moved to a new location, which is actually a lot closer to us. We were disappointed, but we're willing to give it another try. Hopefully, this was just a one-time thing.

Don't be discouraged if you see a long line, the service is fast. Expect to spend $15-$20ish a plate. The only things I didn't like were the sides when bought separately. We've been here a lot over the years since they opened, and we've never had an issue getting a lemonade refill with other employees. Never once. Maybe they were nice. Today, however, the employee at the front, Shien, told us they don't offer refills. She was in the back chatting away with another employee so maybe it was inconvenient for her to offer the refill as she would have to walk back to the front area, whatever might be. What made the experience especially frustrating for me was that I was using the opportunity to teach my son how to politely approach restaurant staff and ask for a refill himself. After being told no, he was embarrassed, and it turned what was supposed to be a positive learning experience into a disappointing one. As I walked over to ask for clarification, I noticed Shien and another employee looking in my direction, whispering, and laughing. I don't know if it was about me, but the timing and appearance didn't leave a good impression. If the restaurant has a new policy of not offering lemonade refills, that's completely their choice. I just think it should be communicated clearly at the time of purchase or posted on a sign, especially since their other drinks are refillable. Every other employee I've interacted with over the years has always been friendly and accommodating, which is one of the reasons we kept coming back. There are plenty of other dining options in the area, so unfortunately I don't plan on returning because of today's experience and a bad impression with the Shien girl. If my kids really wanted to eat here again and I saw the same employee working, I would definitely turn around and choose another place to eat.

Yesterday's visit, I picked up the two item combo and all Mac Salad (no rice). The Kalbi was good but the portion size was on the small side. The Chicken Katsu was a little dry. Not so much that I didn't eat it. And the Mac Salad - for my taste, I like it made with more mayo. I like it to the point that people's arteries start to clog just watching it being made.
