Went on a Sunday. Stopped by and had lunch at "the loose caboose". Here what I liked Ambiance * outdoor seating * live guitar player * people watching outside as the restaurant is on an intersection Food * the burger is their star attraction Large patty, that microwave type of bacon, good produce,and an excellent bun * tator tots. Crispy and good. I'm a sucker for tator tots. * average fries * nachos. Above average * the corn dogs are hand not batter dipped but are then deep fried. * beer was great Overall I'd put the food as fair to slightly above. The service is excellent and they really bust their rears. I realize that this place is mostly a weekend volume place and maintaining high quality, selections, and service throughout the week must be tough. Go for the ambiance and music. I appreciate that these types of businesses exist because I know that it's tough to operate in these types of seasonal and weekend orientated locations. Bon appetite read more

I like this place, it fits the bill for a quick and tasty bite while you stroll the street of Old Town Spring. We need more places like this. Ones where you order inside, grab your drink and the food comes out quickly. It's also probably the most reasonable food in OTS and occupies a prime location. Never had a bad meal here but the quantities could be a be a little larger. You can't miss the train car (that the food is cooked in) and their huge patio which is perfect for live music and the crawfish season. The menu has a wide selection of pub grub and surprisingly good selection of tap beer. I would say the only thing that keeps me from giving them 5 stars is how crowded the order/dining area can be, the line gets long enough to block the bathrooms and cause you rub up against strangers. read more

Food: average Service: Very friendly but slow Live music: annoyingly loud, only old country, no variety Sanitation: not adhering to mask requirements I live in the area so I occassionally give them a try to give them a chance to win my business. Nice that they have outdoor seating. Live music that has been the same person over and over singing very old country, and is so loud that, even though we were around the corner at the farthest table from him, we couldn't hear each other talk. Food was average tasting. Took 20 minutes to get a bowl of gumbo and pulled pork sandwich, both of which should already be cooked and just need to be assembled. While I observed all customers wearing masks, not a single employee in view was wearing a mask. Unless they were hidden in their pockets, it didn't appear they even had masks to put on. Cashier is just a couple of feet from customers, handling money and drinks all without a mask. She didn't sanitize between customers before handling the next customer's payments and drinks, not to mention her breathing over the drinks as she dispensed and delivered them to the customers. The server entered the kitchen area without a mask and delivered food to the tables without a mask. Their failure to observe simple mask requirements has me questioning their general sanitation practices so needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

My advice: keep walking. Overpriced, mediocre food. A hot dog and a "slush" were $7.50 What? And why do I have quotes around the word slush? Because it's a pseudo-slush. NOT the real deal. With a toddler in tow, hot dogs are always a hit. This one wasn't that bad. No fries on the menu, though, so we went solo on the food. Drink choice initially would have been a lemonade, but when we saw they had slushes - woah! Rock on! A 16-ounce slush for $4 was steep, but well, if it's good on this warm afternoon . . . BUT. It was nearly pure liquid with an overwhelmingly sugary taste, not anything like the cherry limeade it was supposed to be. Granted, there was a fraction of crushed ice in it, but hardly anything resembling a true slush. Between the two of us, we sipped on perhaps one-quarter of the contents. Eventually, my 3-year-old grandson had the fortitude to say what I was thinking: "Just throw it away!" Gentleman at the counter was very pleasant, though, and we did make use of the restrooms, which were in good condition. Otherwise, this caboose is a train wreck. read more

We've seen this place more than a few times in our trips to Old Town Spring and we really wanted a GREAT burger that day, so we find parking down the street, walk over to the place which is usually full of people gorging on food or drinking beer while listening to some great local music every now & again. If you've never been to the place...don't forget to order inside before sitting down or you'll just sit there forever. lol Well, we figured we'd go with the classic "Caboose Burger" and pay our tab....we find a good spot outside and eagerly wait for our lunch meal before heading back out into the shop world that is Old Town. When the girl gets there with our burgers, i literally wanted to grab her arm and bring her back to our table to make sure she hadn't brought us burgers from the kid menu!! - We ate them, of course, because we were starving and weren't going to wait another 15 minutes for them to bring something else, but to say that I've had better burgers from a food stand at a kids baseball park is an understatement!! The meat was great and tasting, but way too small to be a $10 burger, and the bread and vegetables were by far the cheapest kind i've ever had in my life....I was so disappointed that I will definitely never be back unless I just want to enjoy a beer and listen to music. - Believe me when I say that you'd be better off going somewhere else to eat when wanting to spend the day shopping in this beautiful little town!! read more

Whoever the lady at the cashier was, she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. When taking our order, she was very abrupt and rushed through everything. A short while later, a different worker dropped a bag at our table and took away our table stick number thingy. My family took out a bag of fries and started eating on them. I reached in the bag and saw we were given BBQ sandwiches, which was not what my family ordered. I promptly went inside to inform them of the mix up, bringing the bag of sandwiches. The cashier lady then accused me of not taking my "number" resulting in messing up their orders. As we were speaking, a waitress carrying my family's meal mentioned that she couldn't find table number #, which was our meal and I informed them my number stick thingy was already taken by the initial bag dropper. I listed our order and she confirmed it was ours and she followed me to our table. The cashier lady comes a minute later to our table outside and loudly remarked how we "took" the fries without paying for the extra food and "don't worry, we'll have to pay for your food ourselves" and left. In any other food establishment, once food is handled/eaten by the wrong customer, it doesn't go back in the bag to the correct customer- that's disgusting. This was a mistake on their end, and they couldn't even admit it, they handled it very unprofessionally. I also question their food sanitary practices. Their food is nothing special, all in all, this place is a one and done for me. read more

I had a pretty horrible experience at this joint last weekend (01/01/22). I wanted to have some seafood, so I went looking for it from one restaurant to another at Old Town Spring with my friend. She suggested we should check this place out as it looked pretty cool from outside and they had some live music going on as well. But the moment I stepped in, I felt unwelcome. We asked the lady at the front desk (who was supposed to be taking orders, but was busy watching a game and didn't want to be bothered) whether they served seafood. She said yes and handed over the menu and continued watching the game. I told her I needed help finding the said seafood on the menu as it was pretty dark inside the restaurant; she just ignored me. I let it go and found what I was looking for. I wanted to know whether they used beer batter in the shrimp cocktail, so I asked her whether there was any alcohol in it. I couldn't believe when she mockingly replied, 'why would there be any alcohol in it?' I completely avoid any kind of alcohol in food, so I have asked this question a million times at other restaurants, never have I ever been treated badly for it. My friend explained that I was referring to the beer batter, and the lady ungraciously explained with overt gestures how the shrimp cocktail was made without the beer batter. Then my friend continued explaining that I had different dietary needs, but the lady kept shaking her head to indicate how stupid that sounded. Needless to say, we decided to skip this restaurant, thanks to the racist staff. In a nutshell, I have never been treated this badly for asking a simple question elsewhere. In the end, we decided to go to Wunsche and was treated so pleasantly in contrast. So if you are a person of color, my advice is to avoid this joint altogether because the staff doesn't seem to like the fact you're different and will not hesitate to be outright racist. Plus, my friend is white, so she didn't get the same kind of treatment. read more

Every time I eat here I think, "why am I eating here???" I only eat here when I'm with kids hanging in OTS. The food is gross. The brisket bbq baked potato i had is all pre-packaged & can crap. Also Food prices are high for the crap they serve. Stick with their French fries & beer for a win. Sure wish they would get their act together. The lady in the front was rude to begin with but me and my boyfriend were hungry so we decided to grab something here. We ordered the Hot Mess burger, brisket loaded potato and fried mac n cheese. the burger was over cooked and bland, and the fried mac n cheese was still frozen in the middle. If you're planning on getting the nachos, don't. The chips were stale; after confronting the staff about it all they could say was, "yeah, that's how they are in the box, they're like wheat or something." They were normal ballpark style tortilla chips.. they just had a bad bag of them and they were trying to get rid of it. Their tater tots were good, crispy, and delicious.. however the meal was ruined by the nasty nachos that were apparently "normal" to this restaurant. When you spend 16 bucks on some nachos and tater tots you don't want to bend the chip completely in half without it breaking. Staff was unprofessional, wouldn't eat here again. read more

This was our first time trying it and the flavor of the food was great! Fresh food and great atmosphere! We got the brisket nachos, the brisket sandwich, and the Jalapeño poppers. The nachos were good just needed a bit less cheese but the brisket made it all better! The staff were really friendly and they were definitely cleaning continuously. We got the fries with brisket & a baked potato. They were both pretty good. The fries themselves got me pretty full, I couldn't finish them all. Everything was good. The brisket was my favorite. Get loose in the caboose, y'all! After a long morning of knick-knack browsing in Old Town Spring, a good meal was in order! The Loose Caboose is literally.....well...an actual antique caboose parked in the street in front of the main cafe. The menu here is very simple and I initially didn't expect much. I can always go for some nachos so I opted for the Loaded Caboose Nachos topped with shredded brisket. The nachos were pretty awesome, I must say! They were very simple yet delicious. The service was very attentive and warm although there were only 4 people in the whole place. Unfortunately, we didn't dine inside the actual caboose but I'm sure they let folks in their from time to time. But in the end, a great quick bite for lunch in Spring! read more

When I initially saw the loose caboose I was excited to try out the food they had on display outside the restaurant. I ended up so disappointed and upset. I couldn't eat my food, and neither could my girlfriend. She even threw up 5 minutes after taking 3 bites. Anyways we go up to ask for a refund and the lady working refused, completely dismissed us and eventually ignored us. She couldn't even do her job right, as she was watching tv while working, and not even paying attention to us. Overall horrible experience and I hope this place finds better employees. read more

Don't eat here if you know anything about food or are vegetarian. Food is super basic -- absolutely no frills or flavor, for that matter. My lemonade tastes like it was made from cheap mix powder, cheese not even melted on my baked potato and no chives, my brother's burger is on small side and tastes very bland and basic. I don't think they have a real kitchen here, more like throwing food together in a microwave. Live music is nice. Come here for drinks. Do not touch the food -- I've had cafeteria food that tasted better. read more

Based on the reviews, this place seems to have a so-so reputation. I will say that the service was a bit "blunt" as you need to order from a register inside but that's not truly clear to begin with. And the menu is by the door which was also not clear when you walked to the register. That aside, we were on a mission to try some Crawfish and there was a boil going on right next to where we sat down so we made a go of it. While you don't get a lot for your efforts when you're peeling those little guys back, they were very delicious and were a nice "snack" before our later meal. Overall, this was a pretty cool, simple place in the middle of Old Town that had a patio, live music, cold beer and crawfish so it won in our book. read more

Boudin balls were small and the consistency was way off. I ordered a 14.00 sampler platter and it only came with 2 tenders , 2 hushpuppy size boudin balls, and 4 mini corn dogs. I'm pretty sure the Loose Caboose has been in Old Town Spring for a while, and the food is pretty solid for being in the middle of kitschy shops. We stopped in here for a bite while out post-Thanksgiving shopping. I opted for a beef baked potato with a cold beer. The potato was huge and stuffed with butter and BBQ beef. For the price, you get an ample amount of food, speedy service and good music. While we enjoyed our meal a one man band entertained us with covers of country classics...perfect way to finish some BBQ and beer! read more

I really was disappointed in their Crawfish, tasted like the were washed in dawn soap before they were boiled. Just couldn't figure out which color. For the price and the limit restrictions that were put on their crawfish, should've had better flavor and at least all crawfish should've been hot and gotten cold after they were served and not served cold then turn hot after being served.
