Today was an awesome brunch. Kendall, as usual, and The Lunch Box out did themselves. The sandwiches were soooo good! The salad, homemade dressings and fresh fruit were right on! The only thing we had to wash all of this greatness down with was bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, screwdrivers, water, soda ,and tea. mmmm... mmm... ahhhh..... I enjoyed visiting with Ted and Denise, along with all of the other Yelpers that were there. As if this experience couldn't get any better, I won a bottle of Deep Eddies grapefruit vodka. My wife and I have been going to the Lunch Box for a few years as we enjoy their chicken salad, which is very good and we recommend it. My reason for only 2 stars is that we were disappointed by the customer service when we called to ask if the chicken salad uses eggs. My wife is 4 months pregnant. I can't figure out how they make the chicken salad but it's always great. You can either order from the menu or just request what you want and they will fairly adjust the price. I usually ask for a scoop of chicken salad with a scoop of fruit salad. Really fresh ice tea that's especially good. All the bread comes from next door from the Rooster Bakery. My wife and I stopped in on Sunday to see what all of the hype was about. The Lunch Box is nestled down a small alleyway on Camp Bowie, next to Jakes. You'll know you've found the place when you're greeted with a random green door. It's actually quite "cute" to be honest. We were seated promptly by our waitress who took our drink orders almost immediately. My wife had a water and I decided on their unsweet tea. Instead I received a peach mango tea, I would have asked for the order to be corrected had it not tasted so good. I ordered a Chicken Salad Sandwich with avocado, onions, tomatoes and american cheese, while my wife order the Stuffed Avocado with Chicken Salad. Our food was out pretty quick and we were stunned by how "fresh" everything was. The food was both tasty and filling. We both decided that it would likely become a spot we'd return to often. The service was very polite and knowledgeable of the menu. My order was actually exactly what our waitress recommended. My wife's order was one of the many gluten-free options they have, so we loved that. They do free mimosas on Sunday, so my wife and I might take advantage of that next time. What a neat find! I was feeling kind of down because I went to return a book to the Ridglea library and found out I had another one overdue...with no idea at all where this thing might be...and I stumbled upon this little gem. I love a big, fancy meal and a fun night out on the town as much as the next girl, but for a quick lunch at a local place, this was just the ticket. The bright yellow and green paint really perked me up! I tried the quiche, with a cup of soup and fresh fruit (all for around $10) and I was very pleased. The quiche had a nice texture, not too spongy, and tasted homemade. And I highly recommend the coconut pie! Totally worth the $3. After a search for a new little hole in the wall for a girls day out lunch, we ended up here yesterday and what a great time we had. First, the place is tucked around the corner in a strip center on Camp Bowie. You head on down the alley and enter through a side door. We were greeted as we entered and that set the standard for the great service we received. The menu seemed small but there were so many tasty choices, we had a hard time choosing. Everything was fresh and homemade. I chose a chicken salad sandwich with chips, fruit and a cookie. Sounds like a light lunch, nope, portions were big. I couldn't easy it all. The other 2 girls got Club sandwiches. One had the set up I did and the other had a fabulous pasta salad with her sandwich. No one was able to clean their plate. It was a great experience! I'm not sure what it is about this place that makes me feel I'm in an eighties television show. Maybe it's the hidden entrance, a secret garden, or the kelly green door, the bright yellow umbrellas, the weathered terra-cotta tiled floor, maybe it's the people all chatting around the Classic cafe style tables, maybe it's the meal it's self.....I don't know, but each time I pull open that heavy green door I feel like I have stepped Into The Golden Girls sit-com.....but for whatever the reason i LOVE IT HERE, it's like an old friend! Maybe it's because I've been having lunch here for many, many years and I will say the sandwich's still pack the same great taste and quality as they did a couple decades ago. You can not go wrong with the Famous Chicken Salad. But don't be afraid to venture out and try their Egg Salad or my favorite, The Tuna Salad....it's so good! Each lunch box comes with a sandwich (of your choice) chips, fruit salad with poppyseed dressing and a nice big cookie....all for around ten bucks....a hearty lunch for $10, perhaps yet another reason I feel I'm in another time and place. A hidden spot that we accidentally cane upon when the parking at McAlester's was packed. The decor is in green and yellow but quite charming. We had sandwiches and I had the soup of the day, a chicken avocado soup. The soup was unique and delicious The sandwiches were on fresh bread and well worth the price. Location is kind of hard to find. The front door is in the middle of the larger building, accessed from outside. There is a sign that points to the direction of the restuarant, but you'll need to know that you won't actually see the restaurant until you walk by the shoe store window. Or at least I think it's a shoe store, not sure the name either. The restaurant is smokey from poor ventilation. It was weird getting used to breathing that kind of air, once seated. You'll notice this as soon as you walk in. The restaurant itself, is not aesthetically pleasing. It seems they did not put much work into it. The flooring looks like they decided to enclose a patio and the result was the restaurant. Ek harsh. (Sorry.) First off, I used to like this place. Notice the USED TO part. I had never been to the location, only had it through catering at work actually... until my last two visits. They changed their recipe for their chicken salad sandwich it seems and I no longer like it. They have a great poppy seed dressing though. The last time I went to this place, THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY BREAKFAST! Bleh! This translates to me never coming here again. I ordered a mix-n-match Lunch Box, which includes a sandwich (I chose 1/2 Pimento, 1/2 Egg Salad), fruit cup, cookie, and a bag of chips...quite a meal for $10. The sandwiches are always overstuffed with the options you chose, so you finish off your meal feeling incredibly full. The fruit cup is a great highlight, as the poppyseed dressing that's included makes the fruit really pop. I never knew this place existed until we had an Yelp event here. This place is so cute. I love sandwiches. The staff here was so friendly and very attentive. They made sure we were fed and had plenty to drink. Everything thing I tried was fantastic. Loved the fact the staff came around our tables with hot Reuben sandwiches. It was really good. My favorite sandwich was the pimento cheese. It was so yummy. The chicken salad was really good too with a hint of jalapeno to give it a kick. The salad was great too with their poppy seed dressing. The salad was so fresh and crisp. The fruits were really fresh and yummy as well. Loved sitting on the patio enjoying the food and drinks. The desserts are really good here. The Lunch Box is a goofy little restaurant, tucked back in a corner off of Camp Bowie. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an elementary school classroom, bright colors but institutional at the same time. The chicken salad sandwich is above average, pepper forward on the flavor. A simple, quality lunch that really did remind me of the lunches my mom used to pack for me. Service was great, I felt well attended to throughout the meal and staff were friendly and accommodating. The service is fantastic! The staff was friendly and attentive. My quiche Lorraine was excellent and it was an added bonus to have the Red Rooster Cafe connected to this place so we had delicious pastries as well. Our original plan was to eat at First Watch, but the wait was 45 minutes (which we were told coldly by their hostess-not friendly at all). We were going to wait, but were turned off by the hostess. I peruse up and down Camp Bowie almost daily and I had no clue this place was here! Thanks to a yelp event I discovered a hidden gem. After speaking with the owner it seems that The Lunch Box is a Fort Worth institution! I did get to try a little bit of everything offered on the menu and my favorites were the Ruben and ham avocado. The poppy seed dressing for the fruit salad is nice as well. If you have room for dessert the ice box pies are all delicious as well as the coconut pecan cookies. They do offer catering with excellent pricing too! Check this place out- It's hiding by Jake's and Mccalisters with a wee green sign. It's worth the hunt. read more

The ambience and food menu is similar to an old school tea room but there's nothing antique about the food quality and the great flavor. If it is your first time, you might want to split the Combination Salad with someone so you can save room for one of their amazing pies. The Combination Salad comes with a generous portion of both chicken and tuna salad with mixed fruit down the middle all served on a bed of shredded lettuce. Don't forget the homemade poppyseed dressing. It is so good I think it could make cardboard taste yummy. Also, if you want to make sure you receive great service, ask for Erma. She's a sweetie! So sad that this place has changed so much. What we used to consider a Fort Worth MUST, we now consider a MUST NOT. On our most recent visit, we were celebrating a birthday and our guest chose this location as it's often her choice spot. From the time we sat down, each server (there must have been 5 different people that came to our table) asked what we had, while carrying things one by one. So, one person would come out with a tea, and say, "tea?" "Tea?" around our table until we either claimed or sent them back for the "flavored tea". This happened with EVERYTHING we ordered. One by one...question by question? Felt like someone never trained the staff to use seat numbers OR a tray. The food was mediocre at best, and for a $17 lunch (with pie) I'd have much rather made my own. What really got me, I asked the server if the kitchen would please chop my chef salad. Server response? "I've got to be honest with you, they won't." What the heck? We want to love you, we keep trying but we need you to do your part too. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem, with consistently delicious food, excellent specials, and lovely patio seating. Even though it's a hole-in-the-wall niche of a place, the decor is charming and the outside planters are always blooming. It's clean and neat inside and out, and we haven't had bad service once. We're tried salads and soups, sandwiches and quiche. So far, everything has been delicious without pretentiousness, simple but tasty fare and well worth the price tag of just under $10 per plate, with specials a couple bucks less. Try the Reuben on marble rye bread, and if they have the lobster bisque it's more than worth it! The poppyseed dressing on the table is certainly worth a taste as well, it's quite good on the lettuce at the bottom of their fruit salad bowls. The free (bottomless!) mimosas on Sundays don't hurt, either. :) read more
