I love everything about this place! Delicious food and drinks, beautiful decor, amazing bread and sweets in the bakery. I honestly don't know why more people don't sit at the bar, as then you have full service and don't have to wait in the often huge line. I've been here for brunch and dinner and both are great. My friend had the chai manhattan that was delicious. I'm obsessed with the potato sourdough but was sorely disappointed when I went one afternoon and it was long gone! So word to the wise... go early if you want bakery items. Definitely a go-to in a nice central location. read more

I'm a fan of this bakery/brunch spot. Been there twice now, first for baked goods (all of which were delicious) and then for brunch. Definitely impressed with brunch food, though fair warning food took a good minute to come out to us. It was poppin when we went so that's probs why. Great ambiance and decor, you feel good sitting and eating here. Started off with a sea salt croissant which was delicious. Also tried a lemon poppyseed mini cake thing, also delicious. Great coffee as well with free refills which is a must. I went with the fig French toast sans foie gras butter (I've had this butter before and forever regretted that decision). Yo this French toast is fire. It's hella heavy so gotta come hungry; getting those pastries to start may have been a mistake. I could only eat 1 of the 2 they give you but I thoroughly enjoyed that joint. It's smothered in syrup which is ideal. The wifey went with king crab tartine which was also good. I give it 4 stars because of how long it took. Though as an apology for taking so long they did bring us free cookies which won them some points; they knew cookies are my soft spot. The food and atmosphere of this restaurant is really fantastic, however I can't give 5 stars due to the service, which was insanely slow. My party was seated right in the center of the restaurant and it wasn't even that busy, but it felt like we were constantly being ignored the entire time we were there. Other tables who were seated after us kept getting served and finished before us. When we were finishing up, one of the servers said she would get us boxes but she never came back and instead we literally saw her end her shift and leave. Something as simple as just picking up our checks even took 15 minutes. There were several moments when we would even make eye contact with the servers and they would still take another 10 minutes to get to us. This was so unacceptable. I stopped by today for brunch - they have a $25 deal for a mimosa or bloody mary, pastry, coffee and an entree. ALL THE GLASSES!!! The drinks were stellar, I had a savory puff pastry with cream cheese, peppers and cheese (gruyere I think) that was fab, and the hash which was excellent. It wasn't busy at 1 pm....a surprise give the quality and value. I live in the area and I am surprised I haven't been in before. I will be again for sure. My family and I tried Lynhall the other night and had an overall positive experience! We got one of the four outdoor table which was perfect as it was a lovely night. But if we had had to sit inside it would have been just as pleasant due to a lovely ambiance and beautiful decor. The food was delicious. Our favorite thing was the steamed bun - a must try! We also did a couple of the salads and what threw me off about these was despite being things like "Grilled Broccolini Salad", because it's a "market style" restaurant, all salads are cold. The other reason I didn't give 5 stars is that with the market environment you have to order your own food and drinks and getting up to get additional drinks/courses of food was a major disrupter to the flow of conversation and dinner. Overall, absolutely worth a try! I will be back to try more food and the indoor dining experience! read more

This was my second time here. I love the idea and concept at this spot. Reminds me so much of the coffee shops in Europe. I was excited to try the short rib hash for Saturday brunch, I also got the zucchini bread and chai chocolate cake and oat milk latte. Everything was good however the short ribs fell a little shy of my expectations. I only found a spoon full of short ribs piece shredded in it, and the few pieces I found were not edible. They were extremely, extremely dried out and could not be chewed. The server who took my order at the counter was very sweet and gracious. She also came by later to ask if I needed anything and I asked her for a some more toast as it only came with a quarter piece of toast. She brought me a slice for no charge which I thought was amazing. I have recommended this place to many friends and family members and will continue to do so. My feedback about the short ribs is just a suggestion for improving the quality of the food. read more

I've been to the Lynhall only for breakfast, but my favorite place in all wasn't doing dinner because of a power outage so I thought I'd stop by for a quick burger, fries and beer. Promptly ordered, got my number and the beer showed up shortly thereafter...great service. 10 minutes later the burger and fries showed up, not hot, and the shrivaled gray burger patty, clearly prepped hours before then covered in their signature short rib glop and "cheese sauce" was too nasty to eat. A waitperson came by and I let her know it was inedible, and to her credit she offered to bring me something else. I was no longer hungry and asked for my money back at which point she disappeared never to return. I talked to the manager on duty before I left to register my displeasure and she assured me she'd let the kitchen staff know. That is all. DO NOT order the burger here, as it is really awful. The kitchen staff could pay a little more attention to detail, and they need a course in customer satisfaction. So many great places in town, they won't be around long with that kinda stuff going on, no matter how lovely the space. Maybe someone who gives a damn enough to be a resident chef and mind the store should have the space. read more

I was surprised to see how many people were studying in the evening. The different seating options - table, comfy chairs, etc.- are great for anyone looking to get out of their usual setting. RUDENESS. That's the one word I would use to sum this place up. Biased is another. I walked in recently and was seated at the bar. I knew I was out of place, an analog blue collar guy reading a book sitting at a bar full of white collar millennials on their laptops. But, being open minded I thought what the hell, I bet their food is good and their staff is nice. I never made it to the food because I found out the second part of my assumption was badly wrong. I sat a the bar for almost 15 minutes. Eye contact was never made with me, I was never asked if I wanted anything- a drink, to order food, to have more water, nothing. The young lady behind the bar chatted with a young man near me for 10 minutes about wine. I get it, you need to sell wine to the customers, move product, whatever. But, after you've done the 10 minute spiel, just come over and ask the guy who's sat and waited through all that if he wants a beer or some food. This didn't happen. I sat for another 5 minutes, and then I left. I'm not a sharp dresser, as I have mostly work clothes and they can look rough sometimes, and I'm not in my early/mid 20's so these things sort of put me as a demographic outlier here at Lynhall. But, what it shouldn't do is exclude me from basic service. I felt as though they are curating a clientele or something, and that's really bogus. After how I was treated here I wouldn't come back. There are so many great places nearby. After I left I went to Fig and Farro and was treated like an honored guest. You should read my review of that experience. It was kind of like karma, terrible experience here and then a wonderful experience there. Verdict: just avoid the Lynhall. read more

The beautifully designed interior is the highlight of this relatively recent addition to the Minneapolis food scene. Much time has passed since the great Greek philosopher Archytas wrote that "place is the first of things." Now we're in the post-Cartesian times when place is nothing more than a universal, homogeneous, and isotropic medium. In Greek philosophy place was capable of doing things--it had a spirit and could encourage people to do certain things or prevent them from doing others. But not much so anymore. Now "place" is reduced to "space"... to a container that doesn't affect the things it contains. In this era of spiritless spaces, Lynhall's interior has been designed with that Greek sense of place in mind. It encourages people to pause and ponder. Every corner of the place encourages a different activity (work, chat, relax, etc.). Go, explore and see for yourself. That's said, you need to know that Lynhall, edibles come second--after the place. It's not necessarily bad. Just know it and adjust your expectations. In fact, let me give you a list of priorities at Lynhall: 1- place; 2- coffee; 3- cocktails; 4- food; 5- pastries. Know what you can expect and you'll enjoy your visit! read more

everything here was SO GOOD. one of my new favorites in MPLS! The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is equally as wonderful. The polenta was more of a grits texture, but it was amazing. The butternut squash soup was so rich and one of the best soups I have ever had. Good food, but the ordering process is needlessly burdensome on guests for the prices they charge and food that isn't truly great--when they first opened they had multiple ordering locations (even more confusing) and it clearly flopped. Then they went to a long, long single line where the person at the register has to act as a server at a sit-down restaurant, explaining items, etc. I've been there where they have only one person staffing the register despite a 20 minute line. Meanwhile the coffee bar can apparently take diners at the bar who will have priority over anyone in line. Look, I get there's a movement to make dining less fussy and more casual--but after 10 visits over the years I just can't give a good reason for coming back: there's better coffee (plenty of spots), there's better bakeries, there's better places for brunch, and the service at those places is far more sensible. This is a *hospitality* industry and this just isn't worth the burden of parking and going somewhere that makes ordering a long, miserable slog. I'm all for this food hall fad (I've been a longtime booster for Midtown Global before it became the latest food fad), but this ain't it. read more

The food was great, but we didn't even get our drinks until after we had finished our entire meal and then they only brought one out of our two drinks so we had to wait even longer. You pre-pay here so if you get bad service you are kinda screwed into staying longer. We had to complain to three different employees before finally getting our second sangria, and it took less than a minute after talking to the third person. That was a full half hour wait for a drink they have on tap. (The first one was about a 20 minute wait). No apology or anything. Will probably never be coming back. read more

Absolutely delicious! I've been delinquent in writing reviews recently, but was inspired after having lunch at the Lynhall today. Walked in around 2PM for a late lunch, and had my choice of either the bar area or a variety of tables. Really like the decor - stylish, sophisticated, but not snobby. Good for anything from brunch to a drink to a night out. Today, since I was on my own, I sat at the bar. I was greeted by a couple of friendly bartender/pastry-counter servers, and they answered several questions about the different food choices. Ended up having: (1) Kale salad with tumeric couscous, cashews, apricots, spiced walnuts: delicious! Great blend - I'd say though it was 60% kale and was nice and fresh/light it was not overly "bare" or "healthy" tasting - the spices add some great flavor and the nuts/dried apricots add enough body so that it is filling but definitely not greasy or heavy (2) Charred sweet potato - at first I was surprised that it came as a full sweet potato not chunks, but it ended up tasting amazing. It was warmed to just the right degree, the amount of char was just enough to make the skin fully edible without a "burned" taste, and the yogurt/pumpkin seed/pomegranite seed sauce was amazing! They gave a generous portion of the sauce and it was enough for the whole sweet potato. I couldn't finish the full thing, but I almost did just because it was so delicious! (3) Espresso-oat cookie: Perfect end to the meal. Chewy/soft consistency and the milk chocolate balls on top were a great addition. Great flavor. I am definitely going back! There are so many things I want to try - I could hardly pick what I wanted today! Especially the pastry selection - it is incredible. I would say the pastry part beats the selection at most Minneapolis bakeries I've been to (Buttered Tin, Rustica, etc)! It might not be "fancy" like Patisserie 46 or Rose Street, but definitely just as good - if not better! I'm a HUGE fan of this place! Can't wait to try again! read more

Driving by regularly, we had been curious about this place. The dining room is very pleasant with nicely spaced tables plus communal-sized tables, great for bigger groups. Nice ambiance. We ordered two cocktails, a salad, the chickpea panisse, the hanger steak, and French fries. The salad came within minutes but the drinks lagged. Then nearly an hour elapsed before the rest of the meal appears. Water glasses sat empty. The server, while very pleasant, seemed either overwhelmed or inexperienced or both. She didn't check back, no explanation for the food delay. The dishes were all good to very good. The salad was simple and nicely executed, though nothing spectacular. Fries were excellent, the hanger steak was cooked properly and at the right temp, and the chickpea panisse was good, though lukewarm at presentation, and a little on the bland side. All in all: meh. Not bad, not amazing. I wouldn't refuse to go back but with excellent competitors in the Twin Cities all around, there's not a good reason to go out of our way to go back. read more

I stopped in for dinner the other day and was very happy I did! The lamb was so tender and delicious. There were actual agates in my Agates and Ashes cocktail. I also had the lemon custard and had to stop myself from going back for seconds. I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Yeah so I went here with some friends trying to mix up our brunch spot. All the food we ordered was great, eggs benedicts were on point. But don't be fooled by the pastries. They all look awesome, but they are dry as fuck and awful. It's like biting into a mouth full of sand. The cornbread muffin actually has a big wad of butter on top and you seriously need the whole thing for your first bite. Then just throw rest away and go home and eat butter from the tub like the garbage person you are. Maybe also shove some corn flour in your mouth too and it's the same experience. read more
