Good, but the kitchen needs an attitude adjustment. I ordered the eggs Benedict which comes with either ham or sausage. Since it comes with 2, I asked if I could have 1 ham and 1 sausage. I was told by the waitress that the kitchen refuses to do 1 of each. Not sure what the big deal is, they are cooking sausage and ham for every other breakfast. That kind of attitude makes me think I will go to other places where the kitchen staff wants to please the customer, not themselves. read more

Excellent restaurant for Farm to table food! Everything on the menu is made from scratch and served with a giant side of home cooked comfort. The food is almost as good as Mom's. And in 16 years of eating at this restaurant, I have never had a bad experience. Attentive and extremely friendly staff! While I will happily recommend any of the items on their menu. I must specifically recommend the 32 oz T-Bone Steak. Seasoned perfectly, cooked to a beautiful medium rare and smothered in a heaping pile of fresh sautéed onions and mushroom. I'll give you a minute to take in that visual.........You can see that steak in your mind, can't you? Tempting you! Calling out to you! Yeah, you see it. You should probably go get one. read more

Usually only go for The brunch type of buffet so my review is solely based on that nothing more! If you wanna eat and be full go to the place if your expecting flavorful breakfast items i think it may lack a bit in that department unless you were to order a menu item it may be better garnished. My initial thoughts walking into Machine Shed was that it was a cute restaurant - you walk into a country themed (and quite adorable) gift shop where you find the host stand and are seated. The booth sizes are incredible generous (the polite way to say a bigger person won't feel like they're in a sardine can in the booth!). Unfortunately, our visit was less than impressive, and I am only giving 1 star because it's required to leave a review, a half star would be more appropriate. 1) The cost of soda is basically highway robbery. I have NEVER seen soda prices that high ($3.29 a person at my 3/2/19 visit) 2) It took us a bit to order (we had never been there before) and our waitress seemed to be getting impatient waiting for us to decide what to have (we had a difficult time deciding because of the prices! A chicken strip dinner was $15! And that was a LOW price there!) 3) I ordered a slice of pie instead of a meal, because of the price, I was only able to take 2 bites of the pie before I got a unpleasant film in my mouth. The whip cream they use tasted like Redi-Whip (canned whip cream), and the pie itself lacked flavor. We ended up sending the pie back, since none of us at the table wanted to eat it. 4) After sending the pie back, the waitress was incredible rude. She brought us the checks right away - even though everyone else at the table wasn't even half way done with their food. She didn't check on the rest of the party either, but did come right away once we got our cards out. Although this is a really cute restaurant, we will NOT be returning because of having such a poor experience. There are a lot of other restaurants in this immediate area and any one of them sounds like a more pleasant choice than vising Machine Shed again in the future. read more

We had visited the Shed numerous times in the past and it was great, though it has been a good 5+ years since we had been there. Sorry to say that it's slipped quite a bit. The service is still speedy and friendly, but my eggs had a weird, plastic taste, the orange juice was watered down and enough sugar added that hummingbirds were swarming my head and the butter on the toast wasn't real. No jelly or jam on the table. No butter pats on the table. Stuff like that. I know that these types of places are struggling, but to cheapen the product spells certain doom. This place was just right for a good breakfast meal. Very farmhouse style type atmosphere. I enjoyed their availability of chicken fried chicken instead of a steak for breakfast and their cheesy hash browns are a knockout. Dang! Thats the root beer! Dang this place is good! Its down home its country its comfort its so good! Regardless of what you order the meal kicks off with creamy wonderful cottage cheese, sweet coleslaw like grandma used to make warm bread both white mini loaves and chunks of banana bread with copious amounts of semi soft butter... I love Prime rib so I tried the smoked prime rib, I prefer mine not smoked after having this it was not bad but just not for my palette but still good! the portion was huge and perfectly cooked just too smoky but they offer regular prime rib as well and that I might try next time and there will be a next time! The sweet potatoes were divine served with a very strong mix of brown sugar and butter, when I say strong I am talking an unusually high amount of brown sugar to butter quotient and it was delightful, I really liked the custom mix! The corn was buttery and sweet and just delish! The desserts looked amazing but I had no room for dessert, typically i get my dessert up front but my buddies were not feeling it and I did not want a whole dessert so no dessert happened up front of after hopefully that will happen next time too! What an adorable restaurant! It has a very homey "farmer" feel to it because there are lots of decorations on the walls and throughout the place. The waitresses even dress up in cute farm-y outfits! The service was very friendly when we came here for a Sunday brunch buffet, which had a huge selection. They had pretty much anything you can think of at this buffet! Went here for breakfast a few weeks ago on a Sunday. The place wasn't busy at all since it was early morning around 8am. But we still had to wait really for service. The waitress didn't look like she cared. And the food was terrible. We got waffles and french toast with bacon. The waffle was a little cold. At least I know why I don't ever go there often. From very slow service, to cold food, and now this robbery. We came here for Sunday brunch. It is clearly a popular place, with a wait for a table. It did remind me of a Cracker Barrel with the layout and shop at the front. We had the buffet, and I wish I would have looked at it before eating it. Being gluten intolerant, there was hardly anything I could eat. I was hoping for some healthier breakfast options, like yogurts, oatmeal, cereals, my husband was looking for wheat toast, etc But, this is a fried food and heavy breakfast buffet. You can have a make your own omelette, but the line for it is long. Next time, I will order from the menu and get an egg white omelette! read more

Biggest breakfast ever! Machine shed gives you all these extra sides so the table is overflowing. Very decadent in abundance and most things are pretty good too. This is an indulgence so I'm glad that there is not one of these chains where I live. But, I love breakfast and this place has it all...and lots of it. There schtick is down home, Farm-like fare and I think they deliver on that well. I also like their dinner special like trout and they give you the abundance of sides like cottage cheese, pickle and applesauce with every meal. Great place to take the kids. If I have to compare it to anything it would have to be Cracker Barrel but so much better and family owned in the Midwest so I like that. It's all about farm life with a little gift shop with hokey little items and some nicer items as well including the obligatory cheese head paraphenalia and John Deere tchochkies. The service is very friendly and the fried cheese sticks - they call them something different, are awesome. Really, really good. Best fried cheese ever and I happen to be an expert. The shrimp covered in bacon and barbecue sauce was a bit too heavy handed with the sauce but I liked it anyway. I ordered the brisket salad which is like a steak salad but with barbecue briscuit. And if you are the kind of person who grew up going to school and church potlucks where you had a whole lot of contrasting flavors going on on one plate and thought it was all good - real good, then this is a great salad for you. Not in the least low fat is my guess. Nice bloody mary in a mason jar too. The kids food comes in John Deere toy tractors which even my ten year old thought was pretty cool. Delicious! Large portions of fresh, down home style food. The cinnamon rolls are amazing and gigantic. They do take reservations and can get quite busy. We had the family style breakfast and it was delicious. They start you out with an appitizer of cinnamon roll (4 of us shared it) then we got to choose items from different categories. The Machine Shed is one of my family's favorites. I have never had a bad meal and last night was no exception. We usually go for brunch (which is amazing) and hit the buffet but yesterday we stopped for dinner. I had the beef tips with stuffing and it was super tasty! The meat could've been a little better in my opinion as it seemed to be a little fatty, however the stuffing was out of this world - the mushrooms added the perfect flavor. And to top it all off, we had a cookie sundae which I didn't think I had room for but after tasting it I couldn't pass it up :) what always makes our experience so great is the service. We took our kids here on A Friday night and absolutely LOVED it. Our two kids really enjoyed it as well. The staff was very accommodating, professional, and overall great. Our waitress had several tables and was swamped, yet took care of every single table as if they were the only table she had. She remembered every drink we had, and came back to check on us several times. As for the food, that was great as well. Their fish fry was very impressive, their Mac N Cheese was homemade, not Kraft, and their burgers were very good. I will ABSOLUTELY recommend this place to anyone. I've had better. Much better. In fact this restaurant WAS much better a few years back and we went there often. Now I would say it is worse than your typical freeway hash joint. The portions are skimpy, greatly overpriced but the only thing not shortchanged on is the salt in the food. It is their main spice. Service was almost nonexistent. Waitress disappeared after bringing our lukewarm and undercooked food. I guess she was bored. Only 5 other people in there at breakfast time. Nice atmosphere and feels like a local take on Cracker Barrel, but with distinct Wisconsin flare. I had the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. It is typical American carb-loaded comfort food. You will gain a few pounds here but it will taste pretty decent while doing it. I had the meatloaf which was good, it had red and green peppers in it which is different. My wife had the chicken fried steak which she liked until she bit into something hard and sound like she broke a tooth, that ended that meal. It was also nice to finally find actual sweet tea in the area, that's one thing I miss from living down south and they also have Dang! Root beer, awesome. But back to the food, it was basically a Cracker Barrel up north and prices to match. For me, my wife, and two kids eating off of the kids menu it costed us $43 and some change. Not too terrible. For a Hearty and Great quality Restaurant, The Machine Shed is the BEST Breakfast restaurant I have been too dining in!!. I have gone to the location in Rockford, IL as well and was Just a great in Consistency. I was @ this location due to having an job interview in St Paul/Minneapolis, MN from Chicago, IL where I used to live. The Pancakes are Fresh just like how I remembered them 5 years ago. As a matter of fact all of the food was Fresh tasting and did not feel like it was Frozen and ready to cook the next day such as the Eggs and Smoked Country Sausage. I ordered on the menu the "Hungry Man's Breakfast" which was best I had. I have to say for the price and the quantity as well as the quality you get your money's worth of satisfaction for breakfast. Even the orange juice tasted fresh (Not Frozen). I also recently discovered that there is now that I am working and living in Victoria, MN that there is a Machine Shed Restaurant in Lake Elmo, MN. I am excited to try that one too and hope it follows the same consistency like here. My only disappointment was they used to see "Minced meat" or "Shepard's Pie" long ago. I hope they still do sell it. I never had "Minced Meat" Pie. I wish the Chicago Suburbs had this breakfast Franchise since it is committed to the Farmer is the motto. Went here for breakfast 2 weeks ago. We were a party of 4 people. The service was slow, but maybe because it was on a Sunday?? Our order took extra long, and even the waitress apologized for the slow service of the kitchen. She was also nice to not charge us for one of the meals. My breakfast was good, but unsure what took long to cook 4 eggs over medium (between the 3 of us), and my friend ordered the oatmeal and fruit. I have used their catering service several times now and my client is always pleased with the food. The employees are pros at setting up the buffet line and this time, the one guy who came to set up even brought decorations. There is plenty of food, way more than what is ordered so don't worry about there not being enough. I love now easy it is to call and order the food. I just reference their catering menu online and then give them a call. Definitely make sure you tell them what time you want them to set up versus what time you want to eat. read more

In Appleton for business and wanted to try something that I can't get near home. Even though this is a chain, I thought it was worth a try since it was in the area of my hotel. This particular location was quite empty for a Sunday evening and there were many employees milling around. My food order was taken very quickly but it was incorrect. I had ordered a stuffed steak and received the non stuffed one. It was good still, not bad at all actually. The meat cut very cleanly, melted nicely in my mouth; aged pretty decently. Spices on the meat were just ok and not something that would make me jump out of my seat. I do like how they provide you with cottage cheese and coleslaw to start with. I've read reviews regarding the butter; it's nothing special as it's not made from scratch at all. The mason jars for the beverages are a nice touch though. read more
