This was our first time indoor dinning for 2020 and we felt very safe as the tables were spaced far apart and the capacity was minimal. I made reservations as I think you all should do to make sure you have a table when you arrive. The food came out in a timely manor and I'll definitely be back for the pretty outside seating. The Mark is understaffed and over priced. If you sit outside don't expect service. Our main courses which took 69 minutes to come out arrived before they cleared our appetizer plates. We barely saw the staff. The $58 lamb chops which I ordered medium rare came well done and cold. We had a very nice server and the staff was friendly but 380$ later it was mediocre cold food and we didn't get some of our ordered drinks. If I could give less than one star I would. The management here is an embarrassment. Running around like chickens with heads cut off, dont be fooled by the numerous workers doing absolutely nothing to provide good service. Had to wait an hour and a half for a cup of coffee that arrived cold while I watched several workers standing around chatting. The managers clearly dont have their priorities straight as I watched a man with a botched leg hobble around and try to over see things. I went there for a brunch on a Sunday. The atmosphere is terrific. But the food/service leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered a simple dish...eggs and bacon which is one of the few breakfast items on the menu. The coffee was cold. I never received the juice I requested. I never received the bacon I ordered. The eggs were room temperature. I voiced my complaints. I was "comped" for my meal. They charge close to $50 for a simple breakfast and cant get it right. While the Patio at the Restaurant at the Mark Hotel (themarkrestaurantnyc.com) is a lovely venue for a special occasion, our dinner this evening was marred by two people smoking (a cigarette and a cigar) at the table in front of us, despite the obvious NYC laws that forbid it. I immediately got a headache and another diner behind us could not stop coughing. We asked our waiter (Tony) to have the Restaurant Manager (Rina Careri ) intervene, yet 20 minutes passed and she was nowhere to be found. We kept on asking other staff to locate her - but to no avail. Someone finally came over, but instead of being emphatic and advising the smokers to immediately Cease & Desist, he engaged them in casual conversation while they... continued to smoke. We reserved the Patio for a celebratory occasion, but it proved to be anything but. Stay Away! read more

This review is for the bar area. I came here last night for my stepdads birthday drinks. About halfway through our first and only cocktail we spotted a mouse underneath one of the tables. He quickly scurried back into a hole in the wall and I alerted the manager. The manager stoically said "thank you", took a photo of the hole in the wall and then walked away. No one said anything to us about how they planned to manage rodents going forward, or made any effort to quell our anxiety over health concerns. When the bill came we were charged for two drinks that we never had. I confronted the manager about this and the mouse, and he replied by telling me that because they have the doors open more frequently now this kind of thing can happen. 4.5, The Mark Restaurant is housed in the storied, landmark Upper East Side building of The Mark Hotel, with doorman upon entry. My friends and I took our ex-professor here for dinner, before his big move to Colorado. Undoubtedly we were always his favorite students! Service was impeccable, as it felt like every waiter and maitre d' in the place was at our service, to make the evening memorable. This extends to the doorman and coat check and every server we encountered! I started with the Shrimp Salad topped with sliced avocados, roasted peppers, Japanese mushrooms, and a nice Champagne vinaigrette. It was bright and zingy, and a huge portion that I ended up sharing, otherwise would've been full. My main was the Caramelized Beef Tenderloin with roasted potatoes, carrots in a miso-mustard sauce. The beef was nicely braised and tender, but on the lighter side in terms of flavor. The quality in their ingredients did shine through in both dishes. The table's orders of salmon, veal and organic chicken were also well-received. We were too full for dessert, but our professor opted for the Chocolate Cake with vanilla ice cream. He was also happy to finish my entrée, to the friendly chuckles of the waiters standing by. Restrooms upstairs is just as detailed as their elegant dining room, and we stayed behind in the black and white striped lobby, because we didn't want to leave after such a fine evening! read more

A word of warning. We attempted to book a large event here in the outdoor dining area. We called and stopped by in person multiple times over the course of a few weeks. We were first told that it would be no problem and they would even be able to print custom menus for us. Then we were told that they needed to check with hotel management if they could accommodate a party of 17. Then silence. For a week. No response. We just inquired in person again (for the 3rd time) and we're told they were completely booked. That's not hospitality. That's being blown off. Yuck. read more

We ordered coffee which we sent back b/c it tasted old then the artichoke which was very food. then we ordered two avocado toasts with smoked salmon and medium poached eggs. the cost is ridiculous at $38 each, there is nothing that comes with it like a side salad or anything. the eggs came out barely poached then when we sent them back it was over 30 minutes to get the new ones. With this price point, they should be the top of the line restaurant. But they are NOT. Food was decent, nothing spectacular. Too expensive for what you get. Desserts were underwhelming. Coffee tasted old. But the waiters were pleasant and professional. The WORST was the host/hostess that don't even greet you at the entrance. I think some of them were racists. We were waiting to be seated for about 10 mins. There were 5-6 hosts/hostesses dressed all in black just ignoring us and hanging out even though they were clearly looking at us. The women/hostesses were the worse ones - one of them started to dig into her own purse in the closet while we were ignored. Two waiters and one bartender had to tell them to seat us. This restaurant blows my mind!! Being a Jean-Georges restaurant, I already have a certain expectation before even ordering, but everything I had was still so so good!!! That crispy sushi was amazing. I've never tried anything like that before, and it's such a genius idea and implementation! The slowly cooked salmon was also cooked perfectly. The mashed potato with it is to die for! The salted caramel sundae was too good to be true!! I really enjoyed my meal here and it is worth every penny!! read more

We had brunch there inside the restaurant on a Sunday . I have to say the atmosphere is lovely . We had the 2 egg omelette, it was substantial and very tasty . A bit expensive but kind of got your money's worth. However there are a couple of things that weren't right. The tap water was warm, there was no butter served with the toast, I had to ask for butter. The biggest thing that turned us off was that we ordered ice tea after our menu 'were taken away . $9.00 for a medium glass of ice tea with a lot of ice and we weren't even offered a refill . To me that is highway robbery. The restaurant must make a 99 per cent profit on a glass of ice tea. Not cool ...... read more

Its a beautiful restaurant with dim lighting. However it was just too warm inside ...so much so we had to ask to be seated outside, which thankfully they accepted. It was a not so cold night so it worked out. The service is incredible in this restaurant, everyone is so friendly and helpful. Top notch. On to the food, the russ and daughter smoked salmon was super fresh and delicious, the tuna tartare was perfect; the chicken samosas were just ok, i dont like cilantro so liked it less with the sauce. As for main i got the pepperoni pizza, which was good...nothing to rave about. The others had the chicken i beleive the one with artichokes and cheese and loved it. Stopped by for lunch this weekend. We were quite excited to stop by a new Jean Georges venture, and for the most part, we were pretty happy with the results. The atmosphere was really to our liking. It's very refined, very pleasant, and quite comfortable as well. The place was doing a brisk business, but it wasn't overly noisy or anything. The service was polite and friendly, but somewhat less refined that what we're used to in a Jean Georges establishment. The waitress we got was not very knowledgeable about the menu and had to check a few times to get clarification on some things. Not a huge deal, perhaps she was new. As for the food, my girl got the chilled artichokes with mustard dipping sauce and a black truffle and fontina cheese pizza. I went with a salad which had apple, avocado, pecan, blue cheese and grilled chicken. She rated the artichokes as good but nothing special, and she found the pizza to have a very deep truffle essence which she liked very much. My salad was great, with the chicken being perfectly cooked, well seasoned and very juicy and there were also a lot of flavorful elements in there to keep it from being too monotonous. Oh yeah, I also got a $6 coffee which was good, but not a great value since they poured one small cup and didn't leave the individual pot they served it from. Even though this restaurant is set in a relatively formal setting, the food was more along the lines of what you'd find at ABC Kitchen rather than the eponymous Jean Georges restaurant itself. Good, but not exactly haute cuisine. In the end, it came to $80 before the tip. Yes, it ain't cheap. But one thing I've found at every Jean Georges restaurant I've been to is that you always get a fresh, well prepared and flavorful meal. That counts for a lot in my book. Four stars. . read more

A week ago we went to The Mark restaurant for my birthday. We have been many times and always been very happy. We had drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. I had the scallops. No one else did and I got violently ill. Not the way I planned to spend my birthday. I called to let them know and got a whisper of a "sorry" from the receptionist. She directed me to email the general manager. I did so and have heard nothing. I will NEVER return and it makes me sad. Also makes me skittish to go to any more of the restaurants in the Jean-Georges Vongerichten empire. The prices are exorbitant and we knew that going in. For a special occasion with good food we are happy to spend the money. What we didn't know is that food poisoning was part of the experience. Shameful! read more

We ordered a side of fries which didn't come, and on repeatedly asking our server about it, he said it was sent to the wrong table and we were told that the manager would come and talk to us. The Mark is a beautiful space. We sat in the back, where there are a lot of windows and natural light. The front of the restaurant is darker. The bar looks like a fun place to hang around at. Service was excellent. The waitstaff were attentive without being overbearing. We were served bread and butter after being seated. Cocktails were good. The wine list was somewhere between ridiculous and rapacious. It was a challenge to find a bottle of wine under $100. We drank a very acceptable $80 bottle of Chianti. Appetizers were very good. The steamed shrimp salad, grilled octopus and truffle pizza were very good. Based on other reviews, I expected to be blown away by the truffle pizza, but wasn't. Many, if not most of the appetizers were north of $20. Entrees were pretty good, but impressively priced. Most of our party wound up getting burgers. They were good, but Daniel Boloud has nothing to worry about on the burger front. For $30, a burger should be a singular experience or contain a piece of jewelry inside of it. One of our party had simply prepared fish, which he liked. We shared fruit, cookies and coffee for dessert. Overall, beautiful space, excellent service, very good food. Really expensive prices, even for Manhattan. Hotel restaurants always tend to be more expensive than usual. I guess that JG's cachet is worth something too. I couldn't help feeling like I overpaid for the evening. Telepan is my barometer for a good meal in NYC. If a restaurant is more expensive than Telepan, it has to be better. This wasn't. It's festive inside and the server was really friendly. The food came quickly and the cocktails were delicious. We only intended to go for cocktails and ended up ordering some food - Salmon on crispy rice and pizza, bother we're delicious!!! The host or the man taking reservations inside was super professional handing all the questions and requests from people walking in off the street and of course hotel guests. I was really impressed with the level of service from all the staff even the people at the front desk of the hotel seeing as it's so hard to get good people these days. read more

Between the nonexistent service (we were left waiting for 30 min with nobody coming to take our drink or dinner order), the cold and poorly executed food, and the price, this was literally the worst meal we have had in about a decade. After passing through the bar, we were led to our table in the bright, elegant, and very quiet, dining room for our early Sunday dinner reservation. As the evening progressed and the sun set, the room grew dimmer, creating an air of easy opulence. Sitting in our comfy chairs, I couldn't help but notice that there was at least a 30-year age difference between us and the other diners. Perhaps the early hour or the neighborhood? We soon received our menus from a perky waitress, who, after asking the ubiquitous question, "have you dined with us before?", proceeded to explain the entire menu for the next 10 minutes. Not unpleasant, just unexpectedly extensive. The large menu features a selection from the raw bar, appetizers, pizza and pastas, composed fish and meat dishes, and a simply grilled section with assorted mix and match sides. The wine list is nicely varied in type and price, with a large number of wines by the glass available. D and I opted for glasses, and I selected the German Riesling, with hints of tropical fruits and a surprising gaminess. The amuse arrived in the form of a potato croquette, filled with fines herbes and comté cheese. A pleasant bite, although nothing mind blowing. But that was only until the pizza arrived. Black truffle bits mixed with equally decadent fontina cheese. Just the smell of it made me tingle all over! D and I also shared an appetizer from the raw bar: the Tuna Tartare with niçoise flavors and gaufrette potatoes. A great dish that incorporated bits of green beans, black olives, and slightly dehydrated cherry tomatoes, with perfect cubes of tuna and the cutest mini gaufrette potato chips. For my main course I selected the Grilled Veal Chop with spring onion fondue, rhubarb and English peas. The chop was large and cooked very well with a beautiful charred crust, and just a few chewy parts. (but I guess that's part of the fun of eating a chop!) The tanginess of the slow cooked rhubarb and the sweet onion sauce paired beautifully with the veal. The veg was a bit on the mushy side, but it was all good as I happen to like that texture. D, along with three others in our dinner party, ordered the Rack Of Lamb with black olive crumbs (crumbled dehydrated olives), root vegetables, and aged balsamic vinegar. There was unfortunately some problems with inconsistent cooking amongst the 12 chops, (J's plate had to be sent back for a redo), but the properly cooked bite I stole was heavenly. Other dishes ordered at the table included appetizers Peekytoe Crab Cake with pink grapefruit, avocado and ginger, and the Foie Gras Marble with Green Bean Salad, fresh pasta Tagliatelle with mozzarella, tomato and basil, and a side of Maitake Mushrooms, Sesame And Lime. The dessert menu appears a bit deceptive, as the listing of a "Selection Of Cakes And Tarts" brings the server by with a large silver tray with about 7 different offerings. That evening included a pear & marzipan cake, a kiwi and lemon curd tart, and a berry filled napoleon. D selected the Green Tea Opera Cake, a beautiful chocolate and matcha layer cake. Although enjoyable, I felt the cake and the buttercream were a bit too dry. I had to order the Passion Fruit Pavlova, submitting to my current obsession with the fruit flavor. The meringue is presented as a hollow egg, filled with a scoop of passion fruit sorbet, and covered with passion fruit seeds and syrup. Although technically edible, I couldn't stand to chew on the seeds. However, after removing them to the outskirts of the plate, the perfect crunch of the meringue with the sweet and tart sorbet definitely started a party in my mouth. The fairly straightforward bistro fare with a bit of JG flair makes the Mark a place for a guaranteed good meal, especially for the meat eater. read more

The waitress talked for about 10 minutes as she explained the entire menu. When the amuse bouche came out, no one explained what it was to us so we had to ask someone, which is kind of weird. Overall, the food was good and the service was ok (not spectacular). The ambiance was befitting of a more older, low-key crowd. Amuse - cheese fritter ball - nothing special Peekytoe crab cake with slices of grapefruit and avocado - delicious. Foie gras with side of white carrots or parsnips? - served cold but it still melted in my mouth -- pretty good. Tagliatelle with mozzarella and tomatoes - the pasta didn't have must taste and was slightly soggier for my liking but the mozzarella was pretty good. 1/2 a rack of Lamb chops (from Colorado) - we ordered this medium rare but it was more on the medium side. Side of maitake mushrooms - could I get some sauce on this thing? Desserts: Napoleon with strawberries - liked the strawberries but that was it. Kiwi tart - yummy! Green tea layered cake - tasted like a kit-kat bar with a little bit of green tea matcha. Passion fruit pavlova - passion fruit stuffed inside a hard meringue ball. This one pleasantly surprised me. I had the opportunity to visit the Mark for a friends bday and it was cool spot. Definitely on the expensive side and not your every weekend eating spot, but I'd say check it out. The decor of the lobby is pretty swanky w/ the black and white, which I loved. Great for some photos. The bar isn't that spacious, but its cozy. Anyway, they seated our party of 8 and we started the night off. The staff including waiters, bar tenders etc are so personable and attentive. Service was great! Food - I had the kale salad to start off, which I really enjoyed. Had a taste of the crab cakes, which was also delicious. For entree, I had the organic roasted chicken w/ parmigiana. A little too salty for my liking, but overall it was filling. Dessert - we tried the Grand Marnier option they had, which I can't remember, which was pretty decent. Went with a friend as we walked by and both are fans of Jean Georges. It was good but nothing memorable and not worth the price. The service was very professional but I would say too professional. These days the top restaurants, including Michelin Star restaurants, provide perfect service but the services are approachable, friendly and add to the experience. Here they did everything right but felt more they were trying to impress me. The food itself was good but not great. I had veal milanese and it was prepared well but fried veal cutlet, nothing more. The arugula and tomatoes were nice and flavorful but not enough to lift the score. Also got a side of fries as they are usually special at this type of place. The ones on top were good, thin and crispy (though no unique flavor, no truffles, no garlic). Once you got to the fries at the bottom of the cup, they were soggy and mixed together.
