Was at the spectrum last night with my fiancé and cousins and we wanted to try out a new place for dinner. Walked by this place and it looked inviting so we stopped in. The menu is easy to read but it kind of went downhill while we were waiting in line. It seemed like they needed more staff and the staff they did have seemed very disorganized. The line definitely did not move quickly but we finally placed our order. They call out your initials when your order is ready, but when mine were up on the board it said order ready (without anyone calling out) and then it just disappeared. When I went up to ask they said it just wasn't ready yet. Which to me sounded like they forgot and hadn't started it yet. In the meantime my cousin had ordered a burger but got a sandwich. When we brought it back to the counter they kind of just stared at us. I mean, the incorrect order and the receipt are right there, so you can check for yourself if you want... They did end up correcting it so I guess that's good. I got up again a few minutes later to ask about my order because about ten people after me had already gotten their food by now, and they handed me one item. I asked about the other two things I ordered and then they started making it. Wait, I already asked about this several times, why are you just now making it? The food itself was okay. I love cheese so of course I liked it but it's nothing spectacular. Also while we were eating, I noticed there was no cashier taking orders for huge chunks of time and the line was out the door! Maybe when this place isn't as busy the service is better, but even so I'd probably pass next time. read more

Ive never really been big on grilled cheese. I mean id eat it but it was never my go to food of choice. My girlfriend has been bugging me for a long time to try it. Finally i caved since we were in the area. I got a grilled cheese classic with bacon. It...was THE best grilled cheese i have ever had! The bread was perfectly done with I don't know what seasoning but it was delicious. The cheese was a good consistency. Most of the time i get grilled cheese that is a little liquidy. Not the case here. While there wasn't a lot of bacon there was enough to give it a good flavor. 5/5 would eat here again. Next time though I might order more. read more

Was shopping at the spectrum with my sister and we got hungry. We were walking trying to decide at which place to eat and we saw "The Melt". It looked appealing from the outside and it smelled great as well. We ended up getting the steak and cheese sandwich with no jalapeños, some garlic fries, and a cookies and cream shake. This place is amazing! The staff are very friendly. This was my first time trying the place and it couldn't have gone better. John was very nice and helped me out. This place is good if you're looking for a quick bite in the spectrum. The fries are really good, and the grilled cheeses are good too. What I really recommend is the patty melt, easily the best thing on the menu. Also, their unique soda fountain is something I can appreciate, and I recommend trying their shakes at least once as a treat. It's a bummer that there aren't more vegetarian options, as I usually have to get either the egg-in-a-hole sandwich, which is just ok, or the italian job grilled cheese. read more

we ate at the melt at irvine spectrum today. normally we really enjoy this place. today was certainly an exception :-( according to one of the assistant managers, their menu was updated yesterday. the signature hamburger now comes with jalapeños standard. YUCK! not one employee mentioned the updated menu nor was there any signage indicating the menu had changed. i sincerely thought i had ordered our burgers correctly since i ordered them the same as always. imagine the surprise when i discovered the jalapeño on the bun. it was actually imbedded in the bun. the assistant manager i spoke with, josh, really allowed me to think the ordering mishap was my fault :-( another assistant manager (no name given) told me about the very recent menu change. josh reluctantly gave us a refund. very unhappy melt customer :-( read more

This was our first time here and we will be back! I got the steak sandwich and it was very tasty. I am not usually a fan of grilled sourdough because it can be hard but this was so crisp yet soft. Well, ...I tried. But this place simply needs to close and make way for something new. The company just has too many failing points; 1. The staff aren't properly trained. 2. You're charged different prices between the iPad vs. staff taking an order. 3. Egg whites are on the iPad menu, but you can't get them because the staff don't know how. 4. You're constantly served undercooked eggs (runny yolks I can handle, runny egg whites, not so much. It's like stringy snot). 5. Patio is consistently filthy (bird poop). gets cleaned MAYBE once a month, when it should get sprayed down early every morning at least an hour before opening. 6. They appear to bring the staff in RIGHT at opening time, because if you show up between 10:00am-10:05am, more likely than not the doors will still be locked. (FYI, they open at 10:00am ...supposedly) 7. If you do get in, then the drink machines are never prepped. 8. And thats if they're working. Corporate support allows them to stay broken for months at a time supposedly for parts orders??? Ridiculous, ...replace the machine already! 9. Most of the time, management hasn't unlocked the registers, so the staff can't even take your order. 10. etc., etc., etc. ...you get the point. We went in because my daughter wanted a simple grilled cheese sandwich. They said they made a kids grilled cheese and the price was very low (just bread and cheese I guess). It came out pretty quickly too but my daughter could barely bite into it. The bread was heavy on crust and over cooked making it hard to chew/eat. She couldn't eat it after a few bites. Very disappointed! We only Ordered 3 burgers and were charged for four. We couldn't finish the food and need a box. I stood in front of the counter for a long time, more than 2 workers saw me and just ignored me till I said 'execute me' loudly. The food was overpriced as well based on the quality and taste. I have been to The Melt several times, and almost always have a really good experience. I usually get their grilled cheese with the egg in the middle, or their chicken sandwich. Yesterday I ordered the chicken sandwich, but it was definitely not what I have experienced before. After about three bites I noticed that the sandwich had a weird, rubber-like texture. I wasn't sure if it was me or if the chicken wasn't properly cooked. I took about two more bites and then completely lost my appetite. It wasn't good- and I'm pretty sure it was supremely undercooked. I've been throwing up consistently since a few hours after I left The Melt. I hadn't eaten anything prior to that all day and was just fine. What's sad is there wasn't hardly anyone there, which makes it worse knowing that my food was rushed and now I'm physically sick as a result. Had a ton of choices for lunch, for whatever reason we chose this place. I had the patty melt, it was pretty good. Everyone else liked their sandwiches pretty much but.....all of our fries were cold and they serve some funky brand of soft drinks. They were all disgusting and very warm. It didn't matter if you put ice in them. Warm soda doesn't hold carbonation, it must be served cold. Check with Pepsi or Coke, I'm sure they can solve your problem. It doesn't matter if your sandwiches are good if you serve cold sides and warm, flat, awful tasting soda. Not a good first impression and there won't be a second. I just received a response from Nadjia E and there was no option to respond to her so I'm editing my initial review. Her response was they are very proud of their non GMO, Vegan,Kosher sodas. Basically you serve some of the worst possible health related choices in food i.e. Cheese, bacon etc. but you allow your customers to wash this crap down with healthy, alternatives in the form of disgusting soft drinks? How is making a few Hippies happy a viable option for running a successful food and Beverage operation? If you haven't figured it out, I have been a F&B Manager for over 30 years. Definitely no reason for all the complaints..we got the classic and the Italian job with caesar salad and tomato soup. It came out quickly, it was hot, flavorful, and the tables were clean. All of this came out to about $15 which is not exactly super expensive as some of the reviews may have said. They did forget to put the soup when our food was ready but they gave it to is quick and even gave us a bigger one. I would definitely go back. You don't feel gross after eating this grilled cheese, either, because it's light enough. read more

I went three times, once in the afternoon and the other times in the evenings and I was really disappointed. The place was so hot and smelly coz the air conditioning didn't work. I was told by one of the workers that it was out of order for sometime and apparently the management didn't care about fixing it!! This is a very serious issue coz it will affect the condition of the food and the hygiene in the place. Do something about it soon or you'll lose your customers!!! read more

No! It's dirty! We were there last night. Nobody was bussing tables, the floor was sticky... greasy fingerprints everywhere, on the doors, windows, tables, tablet screens... and the "vibrating pucks" were filthy.
