Our waitress was super great and not only contributed to our conversations, but also was very attentive of what our food preferences were. She got everything correct given we had so many changes to the original. For the restaurant itself, the interior felt kind of...humid, and dark. It could definitely use some work. As for the food, it was great!! The presentation was nice and it was clearly well thought out. I think the steak could use less pepper around the rim. I think one other think I thought was that chocolate marshmallows and brownies with more chocolate may be overkill. I would suggest having regular marshmallow if possible! read more

Melting Pot is definitely a 'destination' type dining experience. Fondue is something fun that could be done at home, but the prep and logistics makes this a 'date night' or celebratory dining experience and that makes sense. I've come to this location a number of times usually around some sort of school graduation, so high school, college, and an early grad school almost graduation gathering with some friends most recently this past week. With my visits roughly spaced every few years over the last almost decade I can say the experience is very consistent, it's just not exactly what I would like it to be. You can come for just cheese, just chocolate, just cheese and chocolate, or you can do a multi-course option, which is cheese, salad, entree fondue, and chocolate. I went during the Washington Restaurant Week (extended most places until til the 27th because of the shutdown hurting business FYI) so we did the 4 course meal for $35 a person, usually upwards of 40 something depending on the combination you choose. We did the fiesta cheddar, each chose our own salad, they had a selection of filet, chicken, shrimp, and ravioli to make your own combination for the main course dipping, and then the turtle dessert dip. Nothing was spectacular, but nothing was bad. It was all average. The main let down was service. If you need more of anything to dip or any extra utensils, we had to wait a very long time and they wanted to bring our next course before we had space. The restaurant was practically empty on Tuesday night and they seated 4 adults at a table large enough for 2 people. This particularly became a problem when 4 plates with raw meat you don't want to cross contaminate with other dishes or utensils showed up. Our waitress rattled off the cooking times once quickly and then disappeared. We had to flag someone else down who provided us with a table standee with the cooking times for each item, that could barely fit on our already over crowded table. It was an average experience like everyone I've ever had here before. It's an expensive evening for o.k. food, but you are paying for the novelty of it and as long as you accept that going in, it should be an acceptable time. read more

If you have never been to the Melting Pot, I suggest you check it out sometime. The experience is very fun and unique. The whole meal is served fondue style and usually takes upwards of two hours from start to finish. My mother is a big fan of this place because it gives her a great opportunity to have the family all in one place and talking with one another. The environment is inviting and relaxing. I went today with my family for my, you guessed it, mother's birthday. We had the most phenomenal waiter. Our waiter, Danny, was one of those amazing individuals that can take an entire party's order (we were five in total) completely by memory. We all watched in awe, as he took the whole order, start to finish, without writing anything down (we even had several substitutions/changes). When everything arrived, from starter to entree to dessert, nothing was incorrect. I was very impressed. In addition, everything was timely and he was very attentive. During the 2nd part of our meal, one of the warmers seemed to not be working properly. Danny addressed this immediately and the situation was rectified by the staff right away. Throughout the meal we were thoroughly pleased. My only disappointment (and hence the 4 star instead of 5) was that fact that I took the specific effort to mention to our hostess that we were there for my mother's birthday. I asked if they could do something special (nothing big), like bringing out a special piece of cake or treat, or a plate that said "Happy Birthday". She assured me that they would do this and by the time we had finished the meal and paid the bill, nothing. Our first experience at the Melting Pot in Gaithersburg was disappointing. I'm embarrassed that I invited my family to an expensive dinner that had poor service. The new waiter (Tom) lacked knowledge about the menu and fed us non-melted cheese and chocolate. In addition, he failed to check on our table throughout the dinner, leaving our drinks empty, our cheese and chocolate non-melted, and left us waiting for up to 30 minutes between courses, without any food at the table. Also, the cast iron skillet was left on, and at such a high temperature, that the oil started to burn and literally filled the restaurant with smoke. After sitting at the table for 10+ minutes without our entrees, with my entire family coughing, the manager (not our waiter) had to come by to remove the cast iron and bring a new one. After waiting all that time, the new cast iron did not get hot enough for our food when the entree came - which led to more sitting and waiting. Since we were a party of 6, we all had to use one cooking style until the cast iron heated up - and I don't believe it ever reached the proper cooking temperature. After all of these mishaps and poor service, the manager (Zach) made a shoddy attempt at rectifying the situation. Our dinner ended up taking 3.5-4 hours, which is completely abnormal. (We were the first ones there at the restaurant and saw multiple parties leave before us). None of us were thrilled with the experience, the service, or the food. On top of it all, my girlfriends father paid for the birthday package for her (to include a photo, printed and framed) only to find out there was no ink for the printer. I'm upset that I paid well over $140 plus tip (for mine and my girlfriend's part of the bill) to an establishment who could care less about my birthday experience. Parking lot at this location was pretty rough so if you have a car you really like, you won't want to park there. This melting pot is located in a busy plaza but you cannot miss it. Definitely one of the older restaurants I have been to. Besides the outdated furniture and setting this was a great experience and enjoyed dipping fruits and vegetable in cheese fondue and chocolate. My wife and I ordered the spinach and artichoke and recommend anyone who visits to add the dish to their order. Our waitress was very sweet, and fast. They will mix and do everything for you so you do not have to worry about that. If you are looking for a night out with your loved one and even the kids this place takes the cake. First off, if you decide to go to the Melting Pot with a group, do your research and make decisions first. There are two heating elements per 2 people at each table. That requires some agreement on cooking styles, cheese type and chocolate type. Now that that's out of the way, I can't stress enough how great an experience this was. From a cheese blend with bacon and brie to another with four types of cheese, and two types of pesto (I'm a huge pesto fan), to the delicious s'mores chocolate fondue, there are so many tasty options at your disposal. The yumminess isn't limited to just the fondue (even though they are the highlight). Their salads have candied pine nuts or pecans that add sweetness to the veggies. Also, the meats might take some work on your part, but we were able to both grill and deep-fry them as well as vegetables right in front of us. Our waiter was very helpful, helping us clean up a spill, offering what was left of the spirit used to Flambé our chocolate, and even indulging my request to take some pine nuts to go. read more

We did a 4-course meal to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and we managed to spend a good 3.5 hours here! - Cheese course - definitely get this - this is the most fun part! We got the alpine cheese, which tasted pretty authentic compared to real Swiss fondue. You get baguette, apple, some veggies, and a sorta buttery bread. - Salad course - don't really need this but it came with the Groupon we were using. We both got the Caesar salad and it had candied nuts which added great flavor and crunch! - Meat course - we got the mojo course, with filet mignon, teriyaki sirloin, shrimp, potstickers, and orange duck. It was all pretty good! If you're on the fence, you should probably stick with the default bouillon - the broth didn't add much to it since you get all these great sauces. I loved the shrimp, and my boyfriend loved the filet mignon. The pre-marinated ones are also nicely flavored. It all also comes with some yummy veggies to cook! - Chocolate fondue - one of the tastiest parts! I'd say if you have to pick, skip the meat and get cheese and chocolate. We got the flaming turtle. It was fun but not as creamy as I'd like - I think generally I prefer the ones where you mix some liquor in with the chocolate. We felt they slumped a little here on the dippers - there was only one each of little cakes and brownies - we should at least get one per person, and get a few more filler stuff like marshmallows or pound cake. I also got their classic wine flight, and I felt the wine matched each course very well and the pours were very generous! Overall, this is a great place for a date night or a celebration. Exactly what we were looking for: Warm and cozy, comfortable, not at all rushed. My wife and I were being treated to an evening of babysitting by my generous sister. We needed to unwind and wanted to take our time doing it. Our server Ranni was cheerful and helpful, but understood we wanted our time and made sure we had it. At no point did we feel rushed. It was an excellent meal and perfect service. We chose the spinach and artichoke cheese fondue, Caesar salad, bourgignon (oil fry fondue), and chocolate w caramel dessert. I'm basically a fan of the Melting Pot as a chain although this was my first visit to this particular location. It was for a special New Year's Eve dinner with a family that included kids. This review is about that experience which may well be atypical since it involved a full house and a special, limited menu. In any case, it wasn't that good. Our server was friendly and accommodating and, at the request of a child in our party, even prepared a cheese fondue that wasn't on the special menu offered for New Years' Eve. He was also aware of a note in our reservation that a member of our party didn't eat seafood.The food was mostly okay...pretty typical for what the Melting Pot has. But the rest could have been better: -Although I have no reason to think it they were spoiled the tiny lobster tails served as part of the special menu tasted funny to me; off and slightly stale. One was also partly cooked already which was a little bit odd. I mentioned this to the manager when she came by to ask about our experience and she said 'well, put more butter on them" and walked away. I wasn't looking for anything free but I do think she should have offered to replace them with something else. She didn't. - When the check came, they charged us for six adults even though the reservation had been for four adults and two kids. The two kids were clearly...kids (they were playing with modeling clay at the table) and we know they simply didn't overlook the reservation because they did honor a special request. It probably was just a mistake but it was a big one worth $100 entirely in their favor. There was some fuss to get this corrected as well. Not cool. -The floors were dirty in some places: I saw equal packets near the bar that weren't picked up. Maybe this place is okay on regular evenings and I remain a fan of the chain. I came in yesterday for a birthday celebration with my boyfriend. Our server was very helpful and patient with us (it was our first time) and explained everything so well. She was also very accommodating of my allergies, and brought out other items we could use instead of strawberries and apples. We were a group of 6 adults, 2 children, and an infant. I really liked the fact that they sat us in a room that was empty, close to the bathroom and a huge table. The ambiance of this place is very nice and elegant, it's really nice that every table feels very private and the noise from other tables in minimal. The server we had was very polite and friendly but we had to ask for things several times and even then he would I'm assuming forget about what we asked for. Although we were seated immediately and had a nice time, the wait for the food was ETERNAL. I had been here before and food was out back to back, no waiting but this time it took over an hour to just get the cheese fondue. Once we finished the cheese part of the meal, the salad took another 20 minutes to get and then another 30 minutes after finishing our salad to get the entree going. We had to go ask for the kids meal because nearly 2 hours had done by and they still had nothing to eat. Once we were finishing up the entree, we made sure to collect all our plates and utensils at the end of the table so we could get the chocolate fondue quickly and leave since it had been over THREE hours since we had arrived and the kids were done at this point. Not only that but we were told that they had just ran out of bananas and strawberries so all we had to dip in the already sweet chocolate was incredibly sweet options such as rice crispies, brownies, and marshmallows. This has been one of the few places we go for special occasions and we've been happy with them - until now. We wanted the Bigger Night Out which is a four course dinner for two. However, due to dietary constraints we are unable to have the chocolate course. Mistake #1. This has never been a problem before - the manager has been happy to take it off and give us a discount. But not tonight. The manager was not willing to give an inch. He said we could take it home with us - but we still would be unable to eat it. We almost went to another of our "special" restaurants but decided to stay here. Mistake #2. We sat at the bar because we find the booths uncomfortable. Mistake #3. The bartender (who is normally conversant) was too busy to wait on us. Not his fault - he had a lot of drink orders. But it meant very slow service. We waited 15 minutes for him to take our cheese order. After a long wait he brought out the broth for our entrees but let it boil for several minutes - to the point we were almost out by the time we got to the end of our food. He did volunteer to bring more broth but by that time we only had a couple of pieces of meat left. He was very friendly - just overworked. I added a star for his attitude. The entire experience ended up being unsatisfactory. The food was okay but again not what we wanted. We could have ordered individual items - but only three. Not the variety we like, Will we return here? I'm not sure. Had this been our first visit I would say no. In honor of National Cheese Fondue Day, the Melting Pot gave out FREE cheese fondue to Club Fondue members April 11-14 to say "thank you" for their loyalty. You're welcome. The email I received said to call to make a reservation, they would not accept online reservations. The initial reservation I made didn't work for me, but guess what? I was able to walk in and ask to change my reservation. The front end staff was very professional and understanding. Once I did make it in, I was able to get the free fondue, AND take advantage of the happy hour which is every weekday from 5-7 PM. You can't beat a bottle of Blue Moon for $4, plus they have house wine for $5. Once I finished my Classic Alpine fondue served with green apples, bread, and veggies, there were a few minutes left on HH, so I got some chocolate fondue which is 50 percent off during HH. It was hard for me to leave because I heard Barry White, Sade, R. Kelly, and various jazz and R&B ballads playing on the overhead. Speaking of love songs, this is a great date night location. With a romantic ambiance with the lights turned down low, perhaps this isn't ideal for a first date, but if you've been on five or more times and ready to take things to the next level, this isn't a bad choice. read more

We go to this restaurant nearly every week. The staff is friendly and competent. The meal moves at the right pace, not rushed and not glacial. Robin makes great cheese fondue, and always remembers our order. We get shrimp, lobster tail, and lots of veggies with our main savory fondue pot. And we ask for the ying-yang chocolate with milk and dark instead of white and dark because, hey, more chocolate. The bar is fully stocked and their mixed drinks are always good. A great place for dessert! I highly recommend trying Melting Pot, it's pricey but you can often find a Groupon floating around that gets you a cheese fondue, two salads, and two "create your own pick 3." The Groupon doesn't include the chocolate fondu. We started off with the Spinach & Artichoke cheese fondu, which is my favorite. The server prepares and mixes it in front of you, and you get to watch it melt. Next off is a salad and then your entree. You pick the base (choice of style to cook it in) and three toppings. It's very similar to Asian hot pot - you drop the toppings in the pot until it cooks. Here's the thing.. the entrees I don't find amazing. The flavors of the topping aren't spectacular. But I absolutely love the cheese fondue and the chocolate fondue!! The service was great also. We had Dillon has ours and he did a fantastic job explaining everything and checking on us to make sure we were having a good experience. Very friendly and made us feel comfortable as well! This is my first time back here to my favorite restaurant in over a year. I've been coming here for 20 years. I'm so angry and disappointed. We come for ladies night and they had to check if it was going on then we had to have them find us a menu. Then when the menu comes it says $32. It was $27 or $29 for years. We would have paid $32 though. However, then we're told the new price is $37 per person. That's $10 more than the last time I was here and $5 more than the menu has printed. That's quite a price hike. So then we ask about doing happy hour at the bar. We figure we'll get some half priced cheese and chocolate. We're then told the bar is full and we'll have to wait for something to open up or we can sit at our table and pay full price. Other restaurants I've been to make exceptions for happy hour prices when the bar is full. I'm supposedly a VIP on their computer (so they've told me) so I'm really disappointed that no compensation was offered. My friend ordered a coke and paid $5 for it and we left. The worst thing is that they just let us leave, didn't even have a manager come talk to us about our concerns about the hefty price increase or not giving us an exception for happy hour when there were no tables with burners left. read more

This is our go-to place for celebrations. We honestly go here probably twice a year. The last two times the same thing has happened. The wait staff start off great full if energy coming back to the table frequently. Then something hits once the entrees are out. We had to flag down the reception person to get an additional spoon. If you want to turn tables, earn more money, get more tips, you have to be efficient through out the entire service. I should not have to wait for the bill or ask for it. And again, it was a special occasion, the server was told, I noted it in my reservation and yet nothing happened. The first and last time I'd been to The Melting Pot was over 10 years ago, so it was almost new to me. We decided to do a three course meal. The cheese course was good. I'm not even that much of a cheese lover, but you pick a cheese and dunk away with chunks of bread, veggies, and fruit. I actually wanted to eat more cheese after that. I almost wished I had one less friend with me. J/K. OK, maybe I'm NOT kidding. The second course was the main course. We ended up ordering filet, shrimp, and chicken. Yup, had to cover all the bases. After asking the server which broth would be best, he recommended the mojo for all the different meats. He was right. All of the items tasted good and, since you have six sauces to choose from, you can make your own little concoction. The third course was dessert. Little cubes of yellow cake, red velvet, brownies, fruit, marshmallows, rice crispy treats, etc. If you like dessert at all, you'd find something you like on the plate. Oh yeah, they also give you a big ol' slice of cheesecake which I thought was odd. I guess you can't slice that into a cube? Maybe they'd melt and fall in. I dunno. All I know is, the turtle chocolate (chocolate, caramel, nuts that are flamed) was sweet and good. The food won't blow you away here, but it's good - and fun enough with a couple, or a group, of friends. I came here with two friends and we had some service problems but I still enjoyed it and would come back. It is a little pricey, which I didn't expect, but I think it was worth it because of the overall dining experience and atmosphere. The main problem was that the menu was complicated for us first-timers and the waitress did not explain it well. We ended up paying extra for the dessert when we thought dessert was included in the 4-course option we ordered. (And we all clearly remember her telling us it was included.) We would have told her it needs to be taken off because she gave us wrong information, but the price evened out because she forgot to include a salad on the bill. I enjoyed the food--even the meats which came raw and had to be cooked in the fondue pot. It didn't look great, but it tasted good and I didn't get food poisoning! The veggies and cheese were okay, but the best part was the dessert and drinks. I ordered the Yin-Yang cocktail which has chocolate shavings, Godiva liquer, vodka, ice cream, and some other stuff. The best way I can describe it is perfection. It is a chocoholic's wet dream. My friend got the non-alcoholic Blackberry Sage Lemonade which was also amazing. Overall, this is a great place for special occasions when you want a different and more social dining experience. I think I went here just once a while back. The Chocolate Fondue was alright to dip some fruits and cheese in. A little pricey, though. Probably not some place to go regularly, maybe just for a dessert? I don't know, wasn't too impressed. It was simply alright. Melting Pot is only good for dessert. I have tried their dinner here once and did not like the way they prepare their broths (although I should say I am used to Asian hot pot). I've tried the following dessert mixes: Flaming Turtle, Chocolate S'Mores, Yin & Yang Things to Expect: - You will smell like cheese when you leave, even if you are only there for dessert. - You should def. make reservations. - You should bring others because it will be pretty lonely by yourself. - Customer service is sparse. I've been here several times with my family and with friends. I found that the three-course meal is honestly, only okay. It was awesome trying it the first time (who knew apples and cheese were even a combo?!) and I really liked that some of my raviolis had the same pattern as Electabuzz (yes, the Pokemon, I am easily amused :D). BUT, as a Chinese person, I think I prefer hot pot to this anyday. Like, where my fish balls and rice noodles at? Haha. Again, it was fun trying this place one or two times and it's a good place to entertain out of town guests who have never experienced this type of cuisine before. Though, I have to say, the third course, chocolate, is life-changing. For the past, I think, three times I've been here with friends, we had dinner elsewhere and informed the hostess here that we just wanted dessert. Last time I was here, you could have unlimited things to dip into the chocolate as long as you still had chocolate left in the pot, but I recently went to another Melting Pot that charged for extras, so I'm not sure if it's still gratis. Anyway! They give you cheesecakes, poundcakes, strawberries, marshmallows and more! If you have to choose one item to get extra of, I'd suggest the strawberries, it'll make you feel the least guilty. For dessert, it's not *as* expensive as the three-course (great for people on a budget). Sometimes, if the server is nice, they will drizzle extra chocolate on your extras if you're running low on chocolate in the pot :) I really like the Yin Yang and Flaming Turtle varieties! Also, if you're coming for the three-course meal, be prepared to wash/dryclean the clothes you're wearing (and maybe even air out the bag you're carrying). This place was so good! The food is delicious, and all of our servers were very friendly and accommodating. My friend and I went for restaurant week, which was a great deal; you could pretty much choose anything from their menu! The strawberry almond salad was not what I was expecting (the menu says mixed greens and goat cheese, but we were served romaine and bleu cheese), but everything else was great.
