You can get the whole pie for $34 or $32, a great price when split between 4 people! I loved the veggie pizza, especially with the sourdough crust. It can get pretty crowded though, with long lines and difficulty finding a table to sit at. But it's worth it! I'd definitely come back. They also have great freshly baked loaves of bread. It's the bread that they use for their toasts (which are WAY too expensive, in my opinion - $8 for avocado toast... This is a really great, airy coffee shop with lots of space and decent drinks/food. The toasts are expensive - no getting past that, if I told my mom I was paying $11 after tax and tip for an avocado toast she'd definitely send me some angry WhatsApp voice messages. The Mill is worth the hype and the wait! I went here on my friend's recommendation for breakfast, and really enjoyed my avocado toast. Not your average basic avo toast, the toast was thick, the avocado was fresh, and it had just the right level of seasoning. I also snagged a couple of pastries for later, including a couple of cookies and a bechamel mushroom hand pie. My partner got the smoked trout (I also tried it) and it was delightfully smoky and malty. They are always swamped, but they move fast, and we had our food in no time. I mean, I love four barrel coffee so yes to that! The toast I got was eh (ricotta and jam), but my husband got the cinnamon one and I ended up stealing that for myself. Feeling touristy today? Well, when was the last time YOU took a rando walk over to the Painted Ladies and just sat there humming the Full House theme song? Mmhm. Parking wasn't too bad because we got here pretty early on a weekday morning. It's street parking all around with some meters and some residential 2hr spots mixed in. The line had maybe 5 people in it, but it did move pretty quickly, with all your social distancing markers. That ricotta toast was good, but eh because of the type of jam. It just didn't vibe well with me. Plus the toast was super healthy, like grains on grains. Which I think is fine, but I needed a not so healthy breakfast that day! User error, I just ordered the wrong thing. So yes, the Cinnamon toast was fire! Crispy edges with a thick, soft, chewy center... IT WAS SO GOOD. As for the Four Barrel coffee, I got myself a latte and it was perfect and a great combo with the toast. We took our goods to go, but they do have a public parklet right out front you can chill at. It's just a quick walk away from the Painted Ladies so we took the long way through the park, past the playground, and ended up sitting on a bench looking at the view for a good hour. Really cute study space! Lots of indoor and outdoor seats. The wall of bread got me. Picked up a country loaf, sliced and tossed in the freezer. The best gummy, spongy texture once toasted. I got an oat milk latte and slice of earl gray olive oil cake. I could not finish either.. I suspect that they used dairy milk in the latte cause it had a very off putting taste, and I can tell when dairy has been added. So can my stomach lol. Either that or it wasn't good. I guess I'm not a fan of olive oil cakes, I liked the frosting much more than the cake itself..the cake was kind of flavorless, or maybe the texture just makes it an unsatisfying bite. Super flaky and mostly cream cheese but still tasted unique with the slight guava filling. The ice latte comes with two shots which is great because nothing is worse than getting more milk in your latte. Overall the baked goods are great and would come again for them. Although ambiance is very trendy and hip, it did give me a vibe that is "too cool". They DON'T SLICE BREAD. Huh? What? Yeah, cashier said they don't. I could go to Bi-Rite and use their slicer for a nominal fee of $2 or something... Seriously!?!?!! In the mornings it's always pretty busy so it can be difficult to find seating if you plan on eating there. I've heard a lot of people rave about the toast so it was about time to try it!! Dang I can't stop thinking about their molasses brown bread. So chewy, so tender, slightly dense but moist -- I could sink into this everyday. It was THE BEST TOAST I've ever had. They are all a good match. The pesto has a strong flavor in the best way while the sea salt brings it out and the cream cheese mellows it. And the bread. Easily the best rye I've had. Not dense or dry, but chewy. The menu is simple but innovative with great combinations. Latte was great too. Food came out fast. And quite reasonable, no $12 avocado toast nonsense. Pricy? Sure. We all know that SF is world renowned for being an inexpensive city to live in or visit, but I would argue that going to the Mill is worth the money in any scenario. You see a lot of people complain about the price- but, honestly, have you tried making bread this good at home? I tried and I think I spent over 60 dollars on the ingredients. Granted the avocado tree is still growing and hasn't produced any fruit (is avocado really a fruit? That's weird to say out loud), the 3 types of heirloom grain isn't ready to be harvested, and I haven't finished shaping the milling stone I cut from the query myself, but I figure in a couple of months I'll have a nice sourdough avocado toast on my hands! But in the meantime I'll settle for the Mill. But seriously their bread is great. I grab breakfast and a loaf for home. The coffee is great. The staff is great. The decor is great. Overall just great place. The only thing I would complain about is that it's hard to find a seat during peak hours, but how dare a company be thriving and not cater to me alone. read more
