Loved this place. Went to see Mike Doughty for an early show and was not disappointed. Small venue with good sound and a cool feel. Decent drink prices. Also loved that Mike Doughty had the nerve to tell a couple to shut the fuck up during the middle of his set. We came to a friend's gig here. I've heard of the Mint as one of the premiere, small music venues. The acoustics and atmosphere are five stars. The sight line from any table is fantastic, unobstructed. Unfortunately the food and service are 1-2 stars. The fries were limp and greasy. We had to flag down the waitress for orders, silverware, etc..., and there were less than ten customers in the venue. I was so disappointed in the food and service that we left after our friend's set to have dinner elsewhere. Because the acoustics and ambiance are so amazing, I've rounded up the rating to four stars. IF the food and service were better, I'd come to the Mint more frequently, and not only when I have friends playing a gig. read more

I was in the house band at the Mint in 1992-93 My friend who was the assistant director for the film "the Player" came to see us and wasn't able to get in. He went back on the set the next day and changed one of whoopee goldbergs lines to say "Had a great time at the Mint last night!" Last night I went in to see Barry Goldberg and my friends Ray Goren aND Albert Tregagnier were playing. Food was good...service slow due to under staffing...waitress brought the bill which I payed in cash but never returned my Credit card....it can happen....all in all it's a good place to see live music. Came here for a show last night. Service: the server seemed to be very busy but she was very friendly and efficient. Space: it's a pretty small venue which was nice because we were able to interact with the bands/performers. It wasn't cold or hot at all inside the venue; the temperature didn't seem to bother anybody inside. Overall, they had an awesome vibe. Parking: you have to find street parking which was pretty easy. My friends and I found a spot right across the street. Cons: there is a food/drink minimum of one food item or two drinks per person to have a table. That said, the food (fries) and drinks (beers) that we had were pretty good. read more

Excellent selection of live music-I went on a Friday. Bouncer and bartenders were surprisingly pleasant. The sound system is so rich that you really feel the music. The crowd was a great mix. For the love of god can someone PLEASE get rid of the nitwit at the door with the attitude problem. Every single time. No clue what's going on or which way is up, can't keep track of lists, yells at basically everyone, and is just flat out rude. Need a drink? Wait basically until you don't want one anymore. But most importantly, the woman at the door is unfit to do the job that it seems she's been doing forever....incorrectly. I think I've seen her be nice to maybe four people. All of them were her friends clearly, and walked in with no ticket for free. And if your band plays there don't expect your numbers to be accurate unless you track them yourselves. I've seen the methods and a third grader can do a better job. Bottom line, wether attending or playing expect a miserable experience. read more

dive bar with quite a lot of history actually however it's seldom you see that history represented here. come on, you've had miles and coltrane play here in the past?! nowadays it's hipster/indie land with many aspiring bands and singer songwriters sharing the stage. the drinks are well made and the prices are up to par with the area but i wouldn't really visit the mint unless friends are playing here which i have many times in the past in fact. it's really more of a depends with the crowd you come here with kind of place. read more

Great little venue to hear live music with a full bar. Seating is extremely limited and i am not sure they take reservations. Also check there website out first for their music line up or sign up for their mailing list because they host all different genres of music so be sure to go on a night you will enjoy. Plenty of street parking but valet is available. There is a cover charge but not over the top. Some nights it is standing room only so wear comfortable shoes ladies. read more

as an event place for the YEE, I'd say this place was alright. as an upscale restaurant/bar, this place is pretty nice. The really dark decor is not really to my suiting as I have poor night vision, but it sets a nice mood. I didn't have any of the standard drinks from the bar, but the service at the bar was quick; I didn't need to bust out my semaphore flags or lighted batons in order to get a drink so that was a positive point. their mini sirloin burgers lie. they're not mini. They're about 2/3ds the size of a regular burger, and there's 3 of them, I had to share and was still stuffed after eating two. Pretty good. pret-ty gooooood.. I'll have to gve this place a try when it's not packed, 90%humidity and 90 degrees inside. Went with a group of about 8 people to see a band perform on a Friday night about 8:30-9pm. The place wasn't too busy yet. All of the tables were empty. We didn't use the tables but were standing near them to see the music. A VERY RUDE waitress came over to us and said to move and that these were for people ordering drinks. We had all been ordering drinks already at the bar so we were quite confused. We had been paying customers already for about an hour by this point. Not once did she ask us if we would like to order a drink. That would have been the right thing to do. We would have happily ordered more from her. She just kept telling us to move out the way for paying customers and that it is a 2 drink minimum. We even said "are you going to ever ask us would we like to order a drink?". We had been paying customers for the last hour so this was insulting. She said "do you want to take this to the next level" threatening my friend. She then got security and asked for us to leave. This was ridiculous! We are a group of late 30's to 40 year olds and have NEVER been treated like this anywhere. We gladly would have ordered drinks and more than exceeded their 2 drink minimum if she would have ever asked "What would you like to drink tonight?" Isn't that what a waitress' job is, to serve drinks? TERRIBLE PLACE! I will not ever go back. read more

Went to The Mint for the first time on the night after Halloween. There were three bands playing that night. Got there just as the place had opened for the evening. We had a large party of about 15 people. The Hostess at The Mint was so nice, and gave us a reserved section of two booths and two tables. She was very nice in accommodating our large group to make sure we could all sit in the same area. For dinner, I ordered The Sliders - it was 3 little burgers each with different topping. And all three little burgers were so delicious. Very well made food. One of my friends got the Mac and Cheese, and another got the Calamari - everyone was pleased with the food they ordered. As far as bar food goes, The Mint has really fresh well prepared food. The waitress was very attentive all evening. Making sure to keep our drinks coming and seeing that we had all the food and drinks we needed. Three bands played that night. And the middle band was the one we wanted to see. They play very danceable music, and since there really was no dance floor, everyone just got up and danced in their place. Now that I have been to the Mint, I will keep looking at their schedule. I definitely plan to go back, it was a very fun night. read more

I've been to The MINT in the past to support one of my girlfriends, husbands bands. It's literally within walking distance of my apartment, so it's a perfect hole in the wall, casual, cheap drink venue if you are trying to stay away from the majority of pretentious places in West LA. After Dinner Saturday night, we stumbled over for a few drinks, and to see if any good bands were playing. The cover charge is typically $5-10/ person, but for some reason it was $14/ per person that night. We only had like $17 cash left, and the lady at the door accepted that for the both of us. Sweet deal, I guess. The neat thing is that you get to pick which band gets that money. There were 3 bands playing, and we got there as the first band was playing. I can't recall the name of any of the bands, however, it's best if I don't put any of them on blast. I'm all for supporting up and coming bands, but of the first 2 we actually saw, didn't grab my attention. The first bands songs all sounded alike. One thing about this place that they need to work on, is the sound level. They crank up the sound in the mic, so it's blaring loud. Too loud that you can't really understand what they are singing. It's a small place, so the music sounds that much louder. The drinks are cheap and stiff, so I guess if you have a few, the music starts to sound better. TIP of the day! Don't ever take a first date here. Well...only if you're totally not into your date, you feel like screaming in your dates ear the whole night, or don't feel like talking at all. read more

My husband's band plays around town including The Mint and I have to say this is my favorite venue by far. Deana is great and out-of-her-way helpful, and we always feel welcome here. The bartenders and servers are pretty friendly, the sound guy's a pro, and food and drinks are a step above other venues. The place itself has a speakeasy type of feel with big leather booths and kitchy artwork on the walls. Always happy to spend an evening here! :) read more

When I first went to this club, one of the first things that came to my mind is 'Is this a supper club?' as there are tables surrounding the stage and no real dance floor. There is a small menu of grub and actually they make real good garlic fries albeit they're a bit on the salty side. I saw some of the other dishes and the presentations looked real nice. This is a music club though first and foremost and while the acoustics aren't the best they aren't too bad for such a small venue (I think the limit is 300). Call it a mini-House of Blues only with better food and music. It's not a place to hear an A-list band. It's a place to listen and discover the next A-list band. read more

i dont like the ticket policy here. although i cannot speak for the music (which i hear is awesome), i have to speak to the lack of organization at the door here. we called ahead before ariving for the snarky puppy show and were told it was sold out, but if we got there in the next 15 minutes, there were cash tickets at the door waiting for us. so we sped over there and made it in time. they started a line in front of the door for people who did not already have tickets. my date and i were the very first people in line. great, we thought! not so. we waited in line for almost 2 hours, until the end of the show, then left in despair. a night wasted. i understand tickets are not always guaranteed, but the manager at the door should have let us all (loooooong line of us waiting) know it would be unlikely and we should probably not count on getting in. at one point, they closed the door on us too, so that we could not even listen from outside the venue. read more

I've only been here a monday night when they have live Jazz and J. Logic spinning records in between sets. The venue is on the small side which is a definitely nice. The house players for the night usefully stick to the Jazz/Funk end of things which is DOPE!!!!!!!!!!. However they also play sets when things are more on the avante guard side which is also cool. Recovering from Diane Birch's (w/ AM) last night performance at the Mint. It was the perfect storm....Great Music and a kick ass bar/lounge. I feel like I have a hangover but didn't drink(some of us have to get up very early for work). The place is all about the vibe like many have said. The Mint is very cool and I had a very comfortable feeling about the place. Very laid back crowd and super friendly staff. The Sound was great and the crowd was alive! Cons: 1) Food was definitely pricey! Damn It...this place would have been 5Star! 2 tacos($10 for 2 tacos!), crab cakes were good but very tiny, 2 coke, 2 coffees, 1 piece of Chocolate Mouse Pie for a grand total of $42! I read other reviews but I made the mistake of telling the wife that they have food there. I did leave a good tip since the waitress was cute and very attentive. Please note: They have a I food plate or 2 drink minimum. 2) AC is in Full Effect! Guys in general don't care(of course having to due with heat retention and sensitivity), but unless you have a woman in your life that isn't sensitive temperature, the Ladies will be freezing your (insert your favorite noun here). Bring a light jacket unless you wanna trap your date into allowing you to "warm her up" ...this is a great 1st date spot! 3) Don't sit in the booths and expect to see the stage, especially in the standing room only shows. All other times, it cool but just not last night. Recommendation to Management: Place the booths on an elevated platform about 2 feet or so, then patrons can sit and see the stage unobstructed. Now you can charge more for table reservations...just another brilliant idea that I will never receive thanks for...I am used to it! Pros Music Vibe Venue Mos Def that I will be back. This place is a small venue and I would imagine could be a good intimate setting for a show, but for some reason I just wasn't liking it when I went. The sound system is loud but you can still hear the din of conversation above the music, especially during slower/quieter songs. And since people often eat food at the bar it can be impossible to get a drink. read more

First off, I would probably never go here unless there was a band playing I knew I wanted to hear. Tickets are usually around $20-$25 for a Friday or Saturday night show--but it's a pretty intimate setting so it's kind of worth it and they have some great bands play here! If you want to sit down and have a relaxing night, I wouldn't come here. It gets loud and crowded and people dance to the bands they came out to hear, which is what I look for when I go see an awesome band and a small bar! If you don't like the credit card minimum, bring cash. There's always parking in the neighborhood streets around The Mint, so don't bother with valet. read more
