The Modern Kitchen is located right next to Sky Harbor. It's a bit industrial and seems strange BUT we loved it!!! Easy and ample free parking Shaded with some sunshine on the patio Clean with great service Most importantly- food and drinks were delicious and above average quality. Fresh produce and bread. Emily and another hard working (blond) lady were a power duo taking good care of the client's including my 2 pups that were welcomed on the patio. I have never EVER been to a restaurant where I've loved every single thing I've ordered without wanting to change something, ie. "Needs salt, needs pepper, isn't hot enough, zero flavor, etc." I fell in LOVE with every single thing we ordered! I didn't have ONE critique, everything was perfect. The hummus was so fresh I was in awe, perfect chips and cucumber slices. The tomato bisque was seasoned perfectly, very very hot (it's my biggest pet peeve when soup isn't hot), we got the California club and it was perfect. The croissant was flaky and light, perfect addition. Delicious lunch meat, again, I'm the pickiest person alive and I could have just ordered a side of the meat. We also ordered the charcuterie board, and every bite was perfect. The presentation was beautiful, and it was a great size for 2. The chicken pot pie had to be my favourite. Fresh, super hot (how it should be), so flavorful, and just perfect. I will never go anywhere else for my chicken pot pie needs! Even the side SALAD was perfect, and I hate salad. Emily was our server and not only was she extremely attentive, personable, and quick, she was just so KIND. I felt so seen and appreciated as a consumer. She gave great recommendations and was so fun to talk to. It definitely added to the ambience of the place. Additionally, we found out that day that the restaurant is family owned! Mary is the owner, just as sweet as pie, and Shannon, her daughter, is equally as sweet! We raved to them over how delicious everything was, and their appreciation warmed my heart. I came back again yesterday and they all remembered me by name and made me feel even more welcome. From the pickiest girl on the PLANET: YOU NEED TO EAT HERE! 11/10 recommend! Went to The Modern Kitchen and Bar for lunch with friends. We knew we were in a for a great experience from the moment we walked in. It has a really cool vibe and friendly staff. The cocktail list was unique with lots of options. Two of us decided on the Paloma and one had the Kumquat Ginger Margarita, both delicious! Best Paloma I've had. They also have a great wine list; we had a wonderful Rosé. Choosing a dish for lunch was difficult because everything looked so good. We started with the House-made Kettle chips which came with a tasty chipotle ranch. For meals, we went with the smoked salmon tartine, pastrami sandwich, and the Caeser with grilled shrimp. The food was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The sandwich was huge so I had the second half for leftovers, still so good! I'm excited to have new "go-to" place for good food, good drinks, and good atmosphere. Oh, and totally reasonably priced too! read more

I came here with a big group, so we ordered a bunch of different things to share. I'm so glad we did! I had a margarita that was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, the best Paloma I've ever had, and my favorite had to be the Fresh Peach Bourbon Smash. We tried all of the salads, which were fresh and flavorful. The tomato soup is to die for. The tartine was beautifully presented with edible flowers, hand pies were delicious, and the caramel tart was the perfect ending. Been wanting to try this place for a minute and finally stopped in to celebrate my birthday. I'm so pissed it took me this long to get here. Bistro style decor and menu packed with a fantastic variety. The happy hour menu has an electric offering from Chilaquiles to pastrami pizza. We started with the chicken lettuce wraps. The lettuce was fresh and crisp and the sweet and spicy sauce made up for the less than stellar texture of the ground chicken mix. We ordered the pastrami sandwich and Italian Sandwiches. First the pastrami on rye. The rye bread is fresh and provided by a local bakery daily. The pastrami has a deep smokey flavor and is topped with a fantastic stone ground mustard. Homemade kettle chips accompany the sandwiches and were very tasty. The Italian sandwich is served on an incredibly fresh roll and has a nice garlic spread that enhances the flavor of the freshly sliced mortadella and salami. The veg on the sand was fresh and balanced in ratio to the meat. The service was friendly and prompt. When Mary came by to check on us she offered us a house made cookie and "bubbles" to cheer our celebration. Friendly staff and a menu that I plan to return and sample will keep me coming back. read more

I came to Long Beach to visit family and was able to try this hip, new spot. The vibe is cool, without being pretentious. I was impressed by the cocktail list and all of the cocktails we tried (there were a few) were insanely good. It's not often you find a casual spot that is good at both cocktails and food, but this place is. I had the Caprese Tartine and it was so delicious. (I was so into it that I forgot to take a photo until I was almost done with it!). Next time I'm going to try the Avocado one because my cousin got it and it looked so tasty. My partner had the pastrami sandwich and hasn't stopped talking about it (that and the pickled egg that came with his Bloody Mary!) I rarely right Yelp reviews because I'm usually not impressed or unimpressed enough with a place to put in the effort. But the Modern was the best dining experience I've had in awhile.
