Im still pondering why it took me so long to try this place. I initially saw this place while walking to Jones Bar a couple months back. The decor was what caught my eye so yesterday while I was trying to kill time I stopped in for a cocktail. The bar is rather small but of modern design. The TVs are awkwardly placed given this pillar that sits right in front of them but other than that, no complaints. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and can make a mean cocktail. I had the "Grounds for Divorce" which was ironic given yesterday was Valentines Day. The drink was superb to say the least. Definitely a new favorite. I spent the rest of my time talking sports with the bartender and his boss. Down to earth guys who really know how to take care of their customers. I will absolutely be making another appearance here. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a drink sometime. I promise you wont be disappointed. read more

Shame on this business for treating customers this cheap way! When I was checking my CC statement, I noticed a charge from them more that it should have been. Instead of the total amount (that was even circled!), they put it as a tip and summed up with the rest. I called them twice, asking manager to call me back. No response. I called my bank for dispute, a few days later, I saw they refunded me only the amount they charged wrong. I called my bank again and got total refund for even what I had to pay. Watch out for businesses like that, it's not worth it at all! Shame on management! read more

Had some drinks and appetizers here. They had some good beers on tap (hello Racer 5) and the mixed drinks looked pretty good too. The appetizers were tasty -- we had the tuna, quesadilla, and the chicken skewers. They were all devoured quickly and happily. read more

This bar must be the best kept secret in the city because hardly anyone was there and it is FABULOUS! Luis the bartender creates absolutely amazing Craft Cocktails, and the food is delicious. Try the guacamole and chips, something so simple is top-notch. Seriously, be a hero to your friends and suggest that you all go watch the game at this bar and have a few appetizers -- it will become your new favorite hang out, guaranteed. This was the best dinner experience I've had in a long time. Special thanks to our fabulous waitress, Vanessa. I went to the Mortimer on Saturday to grab a nice dinner with a friend. We each ordered the short ribs with potatoes and vegetables, and the meal was outstanding. Far better than anything I'd had from the Grand Café across the street. But the real pleasure of dining here was watching Vanessa take on an unpleasant stranger, who started chatting up and touching my friend. She firmly asked the man to step away, called security, and got the guy thrown out. She handled the situation with such aplomb that I have no doubt I will be back soon for another meal. The Mortimer has a nice ambience and relaxed atmosphere, but sadly they have changed their drink menu and no longer have La Bella Vita martini or gimlet. I read other reviews and was looking forward to trying it. The filet skewers are amazing though and I enjoyed a simple vodka tonic with a twist. The service was okay. While this is my first check-in here, I've actually been here twice: once for dinner and once for mid-day snacks and drinks. Dinner was hearty, unique and perfect to share for 4 people. While it wasn't the "sports bar" I expected during a Golden State Warrior Playoff Game, the food and attentive staff more than made up for a slight turn of the head to watch Stephen Curry shoot 3s all day. Happy Hour is, without question, a bargain for drinks and food - and the staff had no problem handling our constant ordering (2 separate waves of ordering!). Cheap bottled craft beers, Chicken Quesadilla, Margherita Pizza .... and Tuna Tarare. Order it. The mid-day snacks and drinks could not fit the mood of a almost-cloudy Sunday any better. Plenty of space, a bartender that was more than happy to customize a Pimm's Cup to include ginger beer, and a Bruschetta Trio that literally explored your entire palate. One day, I swear, I'll try out 620 Jones around the corner - but when I find its closed or get too lazy to walk up the incline, I'll never ever have a problem kicking it at The Mortimer. read more

Service started a little slow. Maybe the waitress who was taking care of us was taking care of something else. But once she did come give us menus, service was great. We had a travelzoo deal, but we also ordered a few drinks off the HH menu. I had the beatnik which was really good. We split the crabcakes and the beef satay. The crab cakes were great as was the beef itself, but I was kind of middle of the road on the sauce. I cannot remember what my wife had; I think it was the pink bunny. It was good and as she characterized it, "A girls Manhattan". I decent hike from the financial district where we are staying, but worth it. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had wanted to go to the Tonga room lol but the wait was well over an hour and was exhausted from sightseeing all day. So my husband and I just wanted to get back to our hotel and eat. I honestly was dreading what I was I expecting to be typical hotel restaurant food. My steak frites was really good! The steak was good quality and I also liked the parm. Garlic fries. My husband pretty much always says all his food is just okay but he actually said his food was good! Luis is a master mixologist. I came here only because I was staying at the Adagio and thought I'd have a quick drink before heading out, looking for more than a hotel bar. Turns out this place is secretly serving what may very well be some of the best craft cocktails in the city--not exaggerating--all thanks to their newish bartender, Luis. He prepares the ingredients by scratch (e.g., boiling the ginger for hours in the kitchen) and seems to have invented all the drinks himself. Each one is curiously unique. I've never encountered butternut squash in a cocktail before, but I'll be sure to keep my eye out for it from now on (first offering on his custom-made list). I ended up ordering four different drinks and each one was next-level mind blowing. I'm not always into craft cocktails; they're often overpriced and rely on too much syrupy, sugary liqueur, but Luis' innovations were totally worth it and appeared to be made from a creative blend of natural ingredients. Top-notch concoctions coupled with first-rate service. Bravo. read more

Stayed as a guest at The Hotel Adagio (the connected hotel) and enjoyed drinks at The Mortimer a couple nights and a light dinner on my first evening. The staff are extremely welcoming, very friendly, and quite competent at bartending. I arrived late from the East Coast, somewhat frazzled and extremely hungry. Chris, the bartender at the time, was extremely patient as I got my bearings and recommended a great glass of red wine. He also makes a great Manhattan and was very conversational while respecting the times I wanted to just sit and watch the tv behind the bar. I had the tuna tartare, which was also quite excellent. I almost sent a photo to a co-worker enjoying a 5-course Chinese meal at a restaurant nearby, but I don't often take pictures of hotel food. :) This is a great hotel bar if you're looking for a relaxed casual atmosphere with great drinks and a friendly staff. read more

Came with a party of six. We could see they were busy and a waiter said she'd be right with us. We understood and it was clear she was slammed. But, we didn't expect to be ignored for the next 18 minutes. We watched as others who arrived later were served promptly by a manager. I went to the Mortimer because my boyfriend and I had a travelzoo deal. Everything besides the nice waitress was awful. We ordered the jerk chicken which was basically just 3 small chicken nuggets on top of uncle ben's rice drizzled with sweet chili sauce. We also ordered calm chowder and truffle fries. The calm chower was very watery and also not hot. The fries were also cold and had no sign of truffle oil. The meal was a dissappointment and to make matters worse they also did not value the whole amount of the travelzoo deal. Instead of getting 70 dollars worth of food and drink, they only covered 2drinks and 2small plates under the deal. So we ended up paying even more money. We left the restaurant hungry and frustrated. read more

If I was an out-of-towner, staying here - I'd probably give The Mortimer, Hotel Adagio's in-house bar/restaurant, 4 stars because maybe I wouldn't know any better. As a local living here, I remember the multi-million dollar make-over this place got some 10-12 odd years ago and the whole footprint of the lobby and restaurant looks impressive. The hotel staff seemed friendly enough, though I made the mistake of saying "yes" to attending a group brunch at The Mortimer today and I was disappointed. Why The Mortimer was chosen for brunch, on a rare sunny day in SF no less, blows me away. Lots of other - outdoor - options. You know, places really equipped to handle brunch. It wasn't my call, of course, but I am just sayin'! Anyways, I get to The Mortimer early ahead of my friend, and I swear, I sat there for a good 15 minutes without a "hey, can I get you something while you wait?" I was dying of thirst and was also getting the case of being "hangry" (hunger + anger - due to low blood sugar). I was hurting for a mimosa and I would have paid ANYTHING for one (careful what you wish for, and more on that later). The one guy working the bar AND restaurant lacked any sort of hustle, and dare I say, care. My friend shows up, and I guess I'm now part of this brunch group and I finally get asked for my drink order...at this point, I've been there for close to 30 minutes. I get sold on the bottomless mimosas for $15, and it's game-on, what a deal! I figured I'd be able to salvage a "meh" impression, from a service standpoint. The menu looked interesting and my french toast was fine, actually. Outside of our group of 15, spread across 2 different tables, there was no one else in this place and it took a good 30 minutes to get my meal. In fact, since my friend was late, we ordered after everyone else, so I don't know why the food took so long. But whatever, it's Sunday - I thought - and besides, I was able to watch the NFL games while we waited for our food. I guess what really got me was the bill. I got charged $10 for each of my 3 mimosa refills. Since the service was SO SLOW, I only got 3 "bottomless" mimosas...thank God I didn't press the issue or I would have been charged for more. Understand that this was my friend's b'day brunch, and as such, asked for a separate check to treat her meal, and because I didn't want to be "that guy" causing drama at a group brunch, I bent over and took my over-charge quietly...but not without posting it on Yelp. Oh, did I mention that it took forever to get the check too? Again, lack of sincere care and crummy service marred my first impression. The Mortimer has potential. Really, it does. Other than the fact that I felt slightly ripped off and the server feigned indifference, I'd maybe come back for a drink. Maybe. They get 2 starts because they have happy hour until 7pm. We went for drinks and a snack before a show. The drinks were fine, the pizza was meh, not great but not inedible or memorable. The service was not great however. They definitely need to figure out how to staff. It is not a big bar and they have additional seating in another area off the bar. The issue is they had only one server for the tables (who was working his ass off - and doing a great job). The bar itself only seats maybe 12 people and they had 3 bar tenders and a bar back and a manager - all of whom did a lot of nothing while we were there. When we sat down the bartender took about five minutes to turn around and look at us. He was facing away from the bar and not looking to see if he had customers or someone who needed something. Not until the server came over to tell the guy to turn around because he had two new customers did he finally acknowledge and serve us. The same bartender continued to chat with other not busy bar staff and eat stuff from behind the bar... I am not sure what he was eating but kept eating it and that stopped me from ordering another drink - please don't touch your mouth and then make me a drink. Thank you. read more

Beautifully redecorated and redone. Very nice wine and service. A fun and happening spot. I only had the Mediterranean Sampler, but it was beautifully presented and very delicious. My only complaint is about the stemware. I think more thought should have been put into the wineglasses. All in all though, I will be back. The prices are really not bad!! read more

This is mainly for hotel guests, but they'll serve anyone walking in off the street. They treat you like a VIP, even you're just in for one beer. The ambiance is relaxing tho' it looks high-class. Came here Saturday night for a few bites, some drinks, and to check out the new Adagio. The space is cozy and I love the street view from the bar. We had the tuna tartare and the wagyu sliders. On a busy Friday night the Mortimer was packed, but this did not stop us from getting fantastic service. We ordered a pizza to share, which was extremely messy but very delicious. The crust was thin and the quality of the mozzarella and sauce was apparent in the texture and complexity of flavor. Thank goodness it was served with large linen napkins. They must be spending a fortune laundering linens. I ordered a Green Dream (a Chartreuse drink infused with jalapeño) but the server politely informed me that they were out of it's key ingredient. As a substitute I ordered the arsenic and lace which can be best described as a gin fizz with basil infused gin, rose water, egg-white, and grapefruit. In all this was a well balanced cocktail (not too sweet, or sour with floral notes and a round finish). I would suggest not letting this cocktail (or others with egg whites) sit. They maintain their taste, but the aroma of the drink is overpowered by the egg. read more

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend getaway and thought we would stop in the Mortimer for happy hour. We waited at the bar for over 5 minutes trying to get 2 drinks. When we realized the bartender was "swamped" with his 6 seat bar we asked the waitress if we could order from her. She was very polite and took our order. We got happy hour pizza and 2 Moscow mules. The pizza arrived before our 2 drinks. At this point we were just stoked to finally have a drink in our hand after a day of travel so we did not say anything. Unfortunately The first sip of our drinks made it VERY clear that this bartender not only has no sense of urgency but also is not very good at what he does. I went back up to the bar and asked I we could get 2 more because they were undrinkable. I was met with attitude and eye rolling. To say the least we will not be going back. read more
