Wow! We've been here for breakfast twice and it was outstanding. Thank goodness downtown Missoula has an early breakfast spot. Great menu variety which something for everyone - perfect poached eggs, delicious lemon ricotta pancakes, and the closest to authentic chilaquiles we've had in Montana. Solid coffee and espresso. Decided to stop in this morning for a solo dine. I am a huge biscuits and gravy fan so I decided to try their version and added two over medium eggs. Biscuits were soft and eggs were cooked well and the gravy was full of flavor. I'm a wimp when it comes to spice and these had some Cajun seasoning so just be aware of that if you can't take the heat, but it was more than tolerable and I swiftly cleared my plate! I haven't eaten here since the new owners took over (I used to eat here quite a bit pre-covid) but today my partner and I were in the mood for nachos, so we ordered some to pick up. Service was so-so, as it took awhile before someone noticed me when I came in to pick up the order. I ordered off line and the menu just said "nachos" so I assumed they were like they used to be, which was just chips, beans, cheese and simple and pretty good. Well, got home and it was full of fake cheese, not a great tasting sauce and PORK! I'm a vegetarian so was horrified. Called them and they said oh, sorry. No offer whatsoever to make it right or refund or anything. Here's the thing about the oldest post in town, we all love this place for one reason and one reason only, the beans...the beans at the Post are so wet, I swear that when you flick them, your face will get sprayed with delicious moisture. I'm not kidding, I hate a dry bean, especially when you're trying to flick said bean, that's why I go to the Post, I'm always assured that the beans are sopping wet and ready, and that's something we can all rally behind. As my friend put it, "Missoula ' s okayest restaurant." It's definitely hit or miss, and the busier it gets, the worse the food, but it's a great atmosphere and you can get a good cocktail. For better or worse, it's a Missoula classic. I recommend the new wave-o, or a burger is almost always good. Avoid the stuffed french toast, it's not what you'd imagine it to be. I've always been a big fan of the Old Post. On a nice summer evening, it is great to sit on the outside patio and enjoy some food and drinks with friends. On a hangover plagued morning, it is great to come here and eat some great brunch. The service has always been good and the prices very reasonable. I have come to love The Old Post. The menu is pretty diverse and has something for everyone appetite. The Mediterranean chicken sandwich is delicious. The quesadillas on special are delicious. The bloody Mary's are delicious. The décor is very Montana complete with a stuffed moose head. This place can get really loud during busy hours. The outdoor patio is a nice place to enjoy lunch on a sunny afternoon. Service is hit or miss, I've had really awesome waitresses but have also been served by an obnoxious drunk gal. The bar tenders are great. The beer selection includes many local micro brews on tap. The food is moderately priced and the portions usually fit the price. I used to eat here nearly once a week, it just has that hometown chill vibe. read more

A pleasant surprise that exceeded our expectations. Crab/shrimp cakes had more meat than filler with interesting flavors. Clam chowder was loaded with clams and potatoes. You could eat it with a fork! Both the fish and shrimp tacos (2 to an order) included uniquely seasoned sauces and cornmeal battered seafood. One taco was plenty. The apple tart with Big Dipper Huckleberry icecream topped off a delightful meal. We'll definitely go back. read more

The service was okay, although I did have to flag down the waitress a couple of times. The food was awful. I don't know what sick fascination the cook has with fennel, but it was in EVERYTHING--except for the fried banana peppers, which were so salty that I would have passed had I not been so hungry. I can't stand fennel, which definitely has no place in a hamburger (which was otherwise way under-seasoned) and is especially not appropriate in a Caesar salad dressing. I am just such a sucker for their fish tacos it is hard for me to ever try anything else here. The tacos are lovely and huge. They are two meals for me, especially when I get the blackened fish tacos which are a bit too spicy for me to eat in one fell swoop. Of course the beer selection is great and I enjoy the patio. Be careful where you sit on the patio though. During certain times of the summer, you'll end up with a beer full of detritus from the vines. read more

I agree with Robert L on his review, decent pub food but nothing special, the nachos are pretty good however just down the street at the iron horse they have better nachos. A couple cool thing about the Old post is the rustic feel, the friendly service and the beer selection where they represent many local beers on tap and the staff has pretty decent knowledge of the beers. I would probably say that this isn't high on the list of places you should visit if you are in town for a short time since there are many better places in Missoula to check out. read more

To be honest, I feel like the Old Post has been slipping of late. When I lived in Missoula up until about a year ago, it was always a great option for a low-key satisfying meal or happy hour. Usually less crowded than other places in town, good food and good service. However went back on a recent visit to town and had a couple of very underwhelming experiences. The service was slower, beer selection/pricing was nothing special, and the food was bland and disappointing. Going to give them another try for brunch soon, which is where I always felt they actually excelled, and hopefully update this review with good news! read more

We found this place based on the recommendation of a local. This place had a good selection of local draft beer. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual. They also had a band playing in the parking lot that was awesome. I believe they were called the "Lil' Smokies" and they played some great bluegrass music. They appeared to have a good following as they were lots of college students there for the concert. read more

On a summer day, lunch on the patio out back with one of The Old Post's beers on tap and fresh sandwiches can't be beat. I'm impressed with the hand made pita bread and hummus on the Mediterranean chicken sandwich and the hot, delicious french fries--which were definitely potatoes this morning. Two stars for nice decor and friendly service staff. Went in on a Saturday with one other person @12:30 and was told that there where no lunch options until 1:00 only breakfast. The breakfast menu was limited. We went for Lunch so was disappointed that they did not give the option for lunch or breakfast at lunchtime. I ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes. Menu descriptions where very inaccurate. No where in the menu did they state that they had strawberries or nuts on them. I have an anaphylactic allergy to strawberries so would have asked to not have those on there if it had been on the menu. And although I don't have a nut allergy I would think that would be important to add to menu for those that do. The meal was very small, three very small pancakes with no other sides ( again at lunchtime) so would have been hungry in an hour. I was ok with just having my meal taken off as I had not really wanted breakfast in the first place and server was very sweet about getting me new ones quickly. I agreed only to receive very burnt pancakes that I did not eat. Even with my burnt pancakes taken off, the bill was outrageously high for one meal and two drinks. Also watched people around me get chicken and waffles and other breakfast dishes that where not on the menu, so I wonder if there where some daily specials that the servers did not mention. The website was also very limited in there information and did not mention a breakfast/lunchtime option or times. Overall really disappointing, since I loved the "old" old post food. read more
