Read all the reviews. And by all, I mean... they were right. Now, to be fair, the owner didn't come running over to personally tell us to leave, so I guess we cleared that very low bar. We were a group of 10, so walking in, I was already a little leery. Apparently, a party of 10 is enough to make you wonder if you're dining at a restaurant or applying for asylum. The servers did their jobs. Our server was actually very good. Everything came out correctly, the food that was hot was cooked properly, and there were no major service issues. There was absolutely no aggressive upselling, either. My girlfriend ordered an Old Fashioned and asked what kind of bourbon they had. He suggested Maker's Mark. She asked if they had anything else, and his response was basically, "Maker's Mark is the best." Well, there you have it. Decision made. Apparently the bourbon department consists of Maker's Mark and a very firm opinion. As for the food, it was good, but a little pricey for what you get. My steak was good. My girlfriend's lobster, however, arrived cold. I'm guessing it had been enjoying an extended vacation in the window while waiting for the steaks. Since we had already waited quite a while, she decided not to send it back. A little hot butter performed the emergency resuscitation, and surprisingly, it was fine. But honestly, the best part of the evening had nothing to do with the restaurant. It was being there with family. That's what made the night enjoyable. Would I go back? Maybe if someone else is paying. Totally false advertising. The website lists Early Bird specials as $29. All items are really $32 and have been for ages. Then the Prime Rib special on the $32 menu is really $40. While they list some items as extra- there is simply the number 8 next to the prime rib-NO dollar sign or any marking to indicate it costs $8 more. Very deceptive. My girlfriend and parents went here last night before the fireworks how in town. We each got the salad bar followed by some delicious prime rib and filet mignon. Drinks and service were on point ! Been coming here for years, and this place has gone downhill. The salad bar was extremely slim pickings. No shredded carrots, red onion, or broccoli, at the bare minimum. Scraping the bottom of the container for cucumbers. No thousand island dressing. Ran out of broccoli as a side for our meal and it was replaced with a potato, without asking me first. They were also out of stuffed shrimp as a meal. It was the end of 4th of July weekend, so I'll give them a tad bit of grace for that. The corn bread had peppers in it, wasn't a fan personally. Our waiter was very hospitable and friendly, wish we got his name - bald guy that used to work in the theater district. Low chance that l will give this place a try again. My son was proposing to his girlfriend and made dinner reservations a month ahead for a group of about 15. We were given a table good enough for maybe 10 people and another walk in group about the size was seated right away at the table that could be prepared for outer reservation. When asked to talk to manager we were yelled at. Waitress or whoever it was was absolutely rude. After we walked out, another very calm member of family went back in to talk to some. She was pointed a finger in her face and told that her and her family need to get out of the restaurant. Never again. Awful service, awful overcooked food. No women's room, only one working toilet in the men's room covered in feces. Waitress had us raise hands for who wants water bc they don't have enough glasses. Also said "no promises" a lot. One waiter brought someone else's dinner over and spilled it all over our table. We were a party of 9 and spent $1,000. My sister order steak and lobster, her meal came when the rest of us were getting dessert. Waitress kept apologizing but offered no help. Everyone's sides were wrong. It was gross. I haven't been here in years, However the inside ambiance is exactly as I remember. It's very rustic and has a certain charm if you love Tiffany lamps and don't mind the taxidermy animals all around. I came in for an early weeknight dinner. I was especially looking forward to their salad bar. I recall it being very memorable all the times that I visited. Upon arrival we were seated immediately as the dinner rush had not started yet. After being seated, our friendly server took our drink orders all while telling us about the nightly specials. She also gave us the additional early bird menu as we could order off of it as well. After placing our orders for petite prime rib, stuffed shrimp and chicken parmigiana we made our way to the salad bar. The salad bar selection was smaller than I remember but all the usual suspects were there to make a nice salad. It was tidy and well maintained. Our entrees arrived shortly after and it was all so delicious. Our dinners were piping hot and everything was exactly as ordered. We enjoyed our meal immensely. Wow ! Talk about memories ! The only people missing were Chris behind the bar and George sitting on the end barstool. RIP George. We stopped in this week and it actually felt like the old George's was on the way back. The Prime Rib was out of this world ! Just like the old days ! It was great meeting the new owner, who to my surprise has owned it for the last four years. Jim seems like a great guy, just like Ole George. Hope he continues to do well ! George's is THE spot in lake george. My parents and I make it a point to go here for dinner on our yearly trip to LG together. We LOVE the salad bar, it's really what sets them apart from other restaurants in the area. I prefer to get some type of steak while i'm here because it's always made perfect and so good! Drinks are always made well. Servers are wonderful. I love the cozy feel of this restaurant though it passes for upscale as well! Can't wait to come back next year! read more

Went here 5/10/26 for dinner. We ordered lobster tail dinner and seafood platter dinner. Lobster tails on both dinners came out severely undercooked and almost raw on the bottoms. Sent them back to be recooked. Came back ok but very small portions for extremely high price. Not the same George's we were used to. The menu was limited to what it used to be. No appetizers available and the salad bar was much smaller. We won't be back! read more

They have been raving about the prime rib dinner for years and as luck would have it, I finally was privileged to dine here. The hype did not disappoint. The salad bar was crisp, fresh, and had everything needed for a delicious bite. The star of the show was the prime rib. Cooked to perfection and it cut like butter. I had to stop myself from eating it all at once because I wanted a sandwich the next day. The host staff was so friendly and the wait staff overly attentive. This is one of our favorite places in town to go for date night. The food has always been fantastic and the service top notch. Last night was the first time I was disappointed. The food wasn't up to its normal high standards. They were out of a few items who's is disappointing considering it was 6:30 on a Saturday night. The service was great as always. KP was delightful and very friendly and attentive. She made alternate suggestions for items seeing as what we wanted they were out of. We found out it was under new ownership this year. The owner just sat there drinking his coffee and not really doing much. I never saw him help the staff or check on the guests to see how their experience was. I hope next year he gets more involved otherwise the reputation the previous owner worked so hard to get will all be for not. read more

Family has been coming to George's for years and years. I love it here, any place with a solid salad bar feels like a diamond in the rough these days. The French onion soup is the best you can get, and the steak is high quality. My biggest problem this year was the price hike. Truly mind blowing to see a $25 difference per person compared to last year. The picture here of the French onion soup shows 7.00 but on the menu it was $12. You'll pay over $50 for a petite filet mignon. It's understandable because the price of everything has gone up. But 3 steaks in my party of 5 were undercooked, and mine was overcooked and that kinda left a sour taste in my mouth for what we paid. Service was friendly and fast but no one came back to check on us until we were nearly finished so we never ordered a second round of drinks, and 3 of us picked at steaks that weren't cooked properly. No reservations seems to be working well but maybe they could cap large parties at 12 people or make parties over 10 have a limited menu. Well, we were looking forward to an amazing meal, as I have been here before and had a great time. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Our server was overwhelmed with too many tables to take care of to start. I ordered French Onion soup, it was cold, center was "warm" which indicates to me that it was prepped and then microwaved to temp. Had no taste as well. The salad bar was out of many of the items and dressings. My meal was cold (prime rib) literally cold. I couldn't notify our waiter as he was all over the restaurant at other tables. I was truly disappointed in this dining experience as the cost vs. the plates was not worth it, unfortunately. We usually stop and have dinner at George's while visiting Lake George for the last 30 years. We knew something was wrong when the hostess was dressed in sweatpants, sweatshirt and sneakers. We ordered and went to the salad bar; the wilted Lettice was drowning in dressing and no rolls at the table. When the food came omg horrible. We inquired and was told new owners. It was rather sad that such a place could be turned into a dump purchased by people that over charge and don't care. We left the restaurant for the last time and I noticed on the outside the baskets of dead flowers and a broom leaning against the building. I guess that says it all. We were to meet my son & family in Lake George to celebrate their anniversary Sat 6/24/23. He told us to meet them a the East Cove Restaurant at 5:30pm. They're not there, we go to the bar as we have in the past. Get a drink & ask about the reservation - there is none. We get a phone msg, they told us the told us the wrong restaurant, errrr!. They're at George's which is only 100 yds up the road. "You're killin' me Smalls." After that hiccup everything at George's was excellent. This is a prime rib, steak, & seafood restaurant. Our waitperson, Richard T was pleasant, helpful, & efficient. Two Fiddlehead IPA ($8ea) and two Banfi pinot grigios ($11ea) during our meal. My bride had broiled haddock w/ a side of cauliflower ($28+$4) which was almost double the portion generally served in restaurants. I had the pork shank osso bucco w/ mashed potatoes ($31) and their very popular salad bar. A large & tender shank w/ a very good demi-glace. Very nice offering excellently prepared & served. "Our steaks and ribs are hand cut and house seasoned Entrees Include choice of salad bar or soup du jour / clam chowder and choice of starch" - George's. Also had the stuffed mushroom appetizer ($12) and a basket of garlic bread w/ pesto (chef's compliment). Also two petit prime rib dinners ($35ea) & a very large "Kids" spaghetti & meatballs ($15) George's offers excellent food & service. Had dinner here the other night. (No reservations taken unless you have a party of six or more). Very rustic interior with lots of mounted animal heads. Bathroom was clean. Service was on point. Food was good, not great. Ahi Tuna appetizer was tasty. Salad was fresh. The Delmonico Steak came with a sweet mushroom sauce on it, which I had not anticipated. We ordered two dishes the prime rib and spaghetti and meatballs. We were splitting with our kids since we weren't that hungry. Prime rib was a good size but no flavor. They forgot the side soup. The spaghetti and meatballs was watered down noodles, frozen meatballs and canned sauce. The service was not the best but it looked like the whole staff was not happy and/or stressed. Our drinks were never refilled and nobody ever checked to see if everything was ok. The biggest thing is to charge $8 for each split for kids for a total of $16 is unreal. These are young kids. They didn't split the food. They just handed us plates and we split it out. Paying $120 for subpar food is frustrating especially when just two meals. The atmosphere here is extremely likable, low key, relaxing and ecliptic, all at the same time. When we arrived the owner was outside tending to the beautiful flower arrangements on their front deck and was happy to welcome my wife and I into his establishment. He even complimented me on the custom color of my truck, lol. I must tell you that you will not be disappointed in the food here as the prime ribs (my choice) are delicious and an extremely large portion. My wife had the chicken parmigiana, which was also delicious and a very generous portion. For appetizers I had their chili, which was the best I have had in this world or the next. A SIGN FELL ON MY NEICES HEAD! and they did nothing to make it right. Literally- a hanging, HEAVY stained glass, decoration fell directly on my nieces head. It was a whole scene-and the owner came over, MADE A JOKE and walked away. My jaw was on the floor. We asked for the fallen piece of stained glass so we could take a picture to document the accident. The owner claimed he couldn't find it, went out to the dumpster with my nieces husband and proceeded to call him an asshole and tell him to climb into the dumpster himself to get it. Absolutely disgraceful. My niece had a concussion from this experience and will be pursuing further action. They took nothing off of the bill, did not offer a THING to make it right, and the owner was incredibly insulting on top of it all. We love George's ..... of coarse the new owners are never the same. Unfortunately after going here with a 10-15 people for the last 18 years doesn't matter. They were not able to get us a reservation for dinner time but allowed us walk in service with small tables. That would be great if my group wanted to be finished with dinner at all different times. My fault for not planning better one might think they would make a slight table adjustment for long time customers. I guess our $2000 tab and love for the restaurant is not good enough. AMAZING. Best Prime Rib not only in Lake George but that I have ever consumed. The George's cut is more beef than most could handle, although this tenderly cooked flavorful piece of flesh makes your heart want more than the stomach has availability for. Unless you consider yourself a avid feaster you can likely get away with the petite or chef's cut, I'm a fan of when quality meet quantity so I always go for George's cut. Savvy Veteran move is to order the raw horseradish along with the creamy for a nice kick when you begin to feel some palate fatigue. The baked potato was as expected, cooked well. Crispy outside, warm fluffy inside. I could've gone without the stuffed mushrooms but I was underestimating the ounces of prime rib I would receive. Great family atmosphere, cool Adorondack vibe - personally I love checking out the unique chandeliers and stuffed wildlife throughout the restaurant. Recently under new ownership and they've certainly stepped it up a notch! My only hope is one day the legendary salad bar of George's makes a comeback. A man can dream right? read more

We are so glad George's re-opened. Food was amazing and our server Megan was the best. Can't say enough about her. The food was just had good if not better then the original. My only issue was choosing my dinner. Could not make up my mind on the prime rib or rack of ribs. So I ordered both. Good choice!!!! My daughter had the king crab legs, (Awesome ) and my wife had the Stuffed chicken. All were outstanding. The owner (Forget his name) came by to make sure everything was good. I have been wanting to come here for so long and i'm finally here. I love the atmosphere. classic Adirondack establishment. Log cabin is beautiful with its sudo tiffany lamps. we ordered the fried calamari, which was not good. they were so dry the sauces couldn't help it. As most know that follow me I don't eat meat. So i have ten bourbon glazed salmon. which wasn't bad but... could have been better. my cousin had a filet wit blue cheese on top and i actually took a bite. (first bite of meat in 15 years). it was so good a great balance of meat and cheese. the food i felt could t have been better, but not a bad meal. service was pleasant and everyone was available to clear dishes and take drink orders. all overall nice meal but... one issue no ac.. ugh read more

Came here on a Saturday night with a 7:30 reservation. This was on the list of one of the best restaurants so we figured we should try it out. Overall had a positive impression on us! We did end up waiting quite a bit because it was pretty packed but they definitely tried their best to give us the service. The waiters and waitresses were super nice and appreciate their consideration fo the time. The food was 6.5/10, we had salmon with asparagus and sea scallops with risotto. The flavor combos weren't our favorite so that's why I'm giving them an overall 3 out of 5! read more

I'm giving George's 4 stars for the food, which was very good. The Prime Rib was very good! (Better than another local place known for their prime rib) The salad bar was good with lots of options/toppings. The service was slow, although our server was very nice and doing her best on a very busy night. Took a long time just to get water because she was waiting for clean glasses. The restaurant didn't seem short staffed, but maybe the kitchen was or they just couldn't keep up on a busy night. Not sure if they actually have air conditioning or if it was broken, but it didn't make for a pleasant experience on a hot and humid day so beware if you're going in the summer months. I would definitely go back and give it another chance, hopefully this was just an off night. read more

I'm not sure I went to the same place as these other Yelpers These poor reviews are not the experience that I had. We had an excellent dinner here tonight. My parents ordered the prime rib and I ordered the filet with au poivre. We all agreed it was the tenderest steak we have had in a long time. The clam chowder and French onion were also tasty. You have to get the mashed potatoes, a little salty but so worth it. Only improvements would be the au poivre had very few peppercorns and tasted mostly like wine and the salad was very small. The meals were great and I'd recommended anyone to go there. The ambiance has an old time feel and there is a fair amount of taxidermy, don't let that put you off.
