We have been coming here for less than a year after we had a bad experience in the bar across from The Olive. Kenneth was the waiter that took care of my husband and I. He recommended a delicious mixed drink for me ( paloma with tequila) and explained the Happy Hour Menu to us and gave us his recommendations. We love that we can watch a game while enjoying good food. If it's cold the have good heaters to keep you warm. We have brought in our friends and family and they love it here. Overall, good service, stunning drinks and aesthetic food presentations. What I tried -Pita: Given with lime lime olive pesto was refreshing citrus kick. Love fresh baked pita. -Sweet and Spicy Shrimp: This reminded me of a an Asian fusion sauce from Siamond Seafood place but sweeter. Still good but needs to be eaten with a side of veggies or pita bread. -Cold Mezzanine Sampler: Loaded labneh definitely on the heavier side. Hummus was clearly made in-house and fresh. Loved it with it the fresh pita bread. Definitely recommend this too for a little bit of everything. -Kebab Plate with Salmon and Shrimp Kebabs: Salmon melts in your mouth!! Super soft and heavenly. The side of salad came with a slight citrus creamy dressing that was pretty good. The shrimp was well-marinated. -King & Queen Vertical Kebab: I could see and taste the fresh garlic fried topped onto the fries and the uneven cut fries added to the aesthetic. -Pistachio Ricotta Cake: Surprisingly not dense but more on the lighter side. -Pistachio Gelatio: Sweeter than the cake. The pistachio gelato was cold and creamy compared to the cream. I really like the caramel-like pistachio crunchy top. I haven't seen a dessert like this anywhere else so highly recommend!! read more

The Olive Restobar in Downey serves tradition Mediterranean cuisine along with fusion dishes. The ingredients used are high quality. It's definitely an elevated dining experience. The tomato crostini is served on a grilled French baquette topped with mozzarella, tomato, artichoke hearts and basil pesto. Excellent appetizer bites. The falafel with house-made tahini is also a great choice. They have everything from filet mignon kabobs to grilled lamb chops and ribeye steaks. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They were able to answer my menu questions efficiently. The vibe is dope. Nice big full bar with crafted cocktails, wines and beer. The Lebanese mule is ! A must try if you want to have a crafted cocktail. The Happy hour menu has lots of options for both bites and drinks including $7 kabobs a lParking is plentiful. The Olive Restobar is definitely a lively restaurant that gets really packed on the weekends. Stopped in on a Saturday with a party of 3 around 7pm and the wait time was about 45 minutes. Luckily they use the Yelp waitlist feature so we were able to shop around at the neighboring shops while still keeping track of our place in line. The hostess and servers were friendly and provided recommendations when we were torn between various menu options. We ordered 3 cocktails and all of them were well blended but not very strong. I do feel that the specialty cocktails are overpriced at $23-25 each. Should definitely be more in the $15-17 range. We ordered the sweet and spicy shrimp for an appetizer and that was a solid choice. It wasn't very spicy but the sweet sauce had a little kick to it. For entrees, the lamb chops were perfectly cooked and the lamb/filet mignon kebabs were good too flavor wise. We really liked the grilled taste on the kebabs, although they may have been a tad bit overcooked. No welcome, no smile, no energy. The hostesses looked like they didn't want to be there and tried to seat us at a cramped table with a divider. My partner had to ask three times for a normal table, despite plenty of open seating. The view is great and the location is convenient, but the service matched the front--slow, flat, and impersonal. The food was just okay and overpriced. This was our honest experience. Hopefully management steps in and improves the customer‑service culture. We will not be coming back nor recommend. Vibe: It feels very open! There's a spacious feel to it and a covered outside seating area. This is settled in a large promenade sort of area and we found parking easily at noon. The Olive Restobar feels like a good casual place but you could easily come here with a slightly more semi-formal feel too. Service: Friendly and inviting! They still kept it polite and made sure we were having a comfortable time and we had what we needed. I appreciated the calamari recc. for my mom! She liked it. Food: Deviled Potatoes - Good amount of heat and lots of flavor! I liked the sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors all together. I was expecting potato chunks or little wedges like fingerling potatoes but it's actually slices of fried potato! I probably wouldn't get this again since the appetizer and the main course both ended up being too much food for me but it was a good first time try. Falafel wrap - this was pretty good, somewhat standard, and nothing super special. However, it was pretty solid at the same time. I think there was a part or two of the wrap that felt a little chewy, but I think it was just from being heated and then cooling down. it didn't really affect the flavor or experience of eating the wraps, just something I noticed. I probably liked the salad I had on the side more than the wrap itself! The peppery arugula paired well with the dressing. I'm just not a fan of cucumbers so I didn't like that part but it was good nonetheless. Surf and turf - my mom had this dish and she said it was super good! The portion was a lot bigger than she expected but that just means she got to take home good food for leftovers. The shrimp was not overcooked and was still nice and juicy. Same could be said for the steak, it was soft and tender, cooked perfectly to medium rare according to my mom. She didn't have too much of the spiced mashed potatoes but she commented that they had a pretty decent buttery flavor. Buttermilk calamari - again this is one of my mom's dishes. She had this for her appetizer and said that the calamari was soft and tender. She was worried about it being tough and chewy but it wasn't at all. Hummus - you have the option of going with either one type of hummus or going half and half. We went with the ladder option to try both! I would probably just go with the regular hummus next time since I found that the spicy one wasn't really spicy at all or had any sort of kick to it that differentiated it from the regular one. Both were really creamy and smooth though! Overall, the experience was really nice and the food was delicious! We will definitely come back, especially since it is in a nice promenade with other places to go to after you are done eating. read more

A pretty restaurant for kabobs and grills. I had the hanging kabob which was very nice. It's called king & queen and it's $49. The steak cooked medium was really juicy and tender. Since my daughters had plans we decided to celebrate thanksgiving today at the olive, we ordered the king kabobs, it comes with a mountain of french fries(as they described it), nothing else, so we ordered a salad, we also ordered a salmon kabob to go, thinking we would get a real kabob instead of four small pieces of salmon and again nothing else. Also, they say they offer free hummus, we didn't get anything but a piece of pita bread with some salsa. How crazy is that they're going to serve meat and fries? The food was good but more choices for sides would be better so you don't have to order extra items. Service is good and they have good music as well. The parking was quite crowded in the plaza, but we were finally able to find parking. It was a busy Friday night, but they were able to accommodate our party of six.
