Stopped in for dinner one evening. Pretty crowded on a weekday. Started off the meal with the potatoes and calamari. These were some of the better items of the night. The lamb chops are an excellent choice too. I would stay away from the kafta and filet mignon skewers. They were awful. read more

This was our second time at the Restobar and this might be the best place to eat in Downey. The food is really great with a wide variety of healthy options and they make some unique drinks that keep things interesting. The service is also exceptional. The establishment was packed when we went today but we still had quick and responsive help from our server Burke who was amazing. They also have live music which I didn't experience on my first trip but it really adds to the ambiance, particularly at night. Highly recommend this location if you're in the area! read more

Our visit started with extremely fast seating. We didn't even wait 5 minutes! Once seated we were quickly greeted by the wonderful Bryan B. Cant even begin to explain how wonderful Bryan is! He was a huge part of our wonderful experience. Bryan demonstrates such a positive attitude and holds great conversation with everyone at the table. I highly recommend visiting the Olive, and if you're lucky enough to be served by Bryan then you're for sure going to have a great experience! The manager Juan Carlos was also a huge part of our experience. He is always so attentive and makes sure everyone is taken care of. We had the surf and turf as well as the spicy hummus and sweet and spicy shrimp as appetizers. Soooo delicious! My husband and I always have a great time when we dine here. I celebrated two friend's birthday this past Sunday. We sat at the bar first until our table was ready. The drinks and service were excellent . Once we were seated at our table the great service continued. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was delightful. The manager was working just as hard as the staff. The food never fails to impress and amaze my taste buds! But one thing that I will leave with todays experience is our waitress Ashley.... When I tell you. This young lady was so gracious, welcoming, and just fun spirited. She was so attentive and friendly. We actually ended up here by mistake but it was a serendipitous one. We had a great experience all around. First the food. The hummus was superb as was the salmon ceviche, both of which we ordered because of reviews. We decided to share several different kebabs, all of which were excellent. The filet was the best of the four. The outdoor seating was great and the atmosphere was vibrant. But we had no trouble talking and hearing one another. The highlight though was our server, Brandon B. He took such good care of us from start to finish. At one point the bar made a mistake and he made it right without batting an eye. His recommendations were unerring, his service attentive, and all with a great sense of humor and personality. So glad we ended up at the "wrong" restaurant. For starters, the ambiance was very warm and welcoming, heaters are on the patio which kept you warm. The food was delicious! Our server Eloy was very kind and attentive to us as well as Antonio. Absolutely wonderful! The impression we got from check in to service to food. It was such a great dinner and it was my birthday weekend. (Along with about 4 other tables so we didn't say anything ). The service was just awesome and the food delicious. My only grunt was the drink was supposed to be a double and I had my doubts there was alcohol in it. I tried the chicken and shrimp kabob with a sangria and it was absolutely delicious! The staff is so attentive, I mentioned I was cold and they sat us under a heater that kept us cozy the whole time. On top of that, I love that you can easily have a conversation because the environment isn't too noisy! It's a perfect restaurant for dinner! If I had one small suggestion for the owner, it would be to add a little more signage out front--maybe a green neon sign to make it stand out as an Irish pub. We actually drove past it a couple of times before realizing it was next to a bakery. Ironically, the bakery--which isn't Irish at all--had the green neon sign that caught our attention! Overall, a fantastic neighborhood spot with cold beer, great service, and a fun atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit!

I also told her to let me know if I was short. Instead, she brought me my change and the shots, which made me assume everything was covered. We took the shots, said our goodbyes, and left. No one stopped us or mentioned anything, and part of our group had already taken off. About 15 minutes later, my friend and I decided to go back in for one more bucket of beers. When we returned, the manager and waitress told us to go ahead and sit back down like everything was fine. After ordering and paying for the beers, the waitress then told me I still owed money for the 5 shots. I was confused, so I spoke to the manager. Honestly, I could have just left it at that since the mistake was on their end, but I chose to pay anyway. Situations like this make it feel like you're being overcharged, especially in an environment where people are already buzzed. It didn't sit right with me, and because of that, I won't be coming back.

If you decide to order the house specialty, the King's Kebab, I'd recommend letting them know how you'd like it prepared. The chef's choice of cooking it all the way through wasn't ideal for me--it made the meat a bit chewy. Asking for it medium will keep it softer and juicier. The same goes for the fries that come with it--they were softer than I'd hoped for and not as crunchy on the outside. So it's worth mentioning that when you order. Appetizers were delicious and portioned generously--perfect for 2-3 people to share. The King's Kebab platter itself easily feeds 2-3, depending on appetite. For dessert, the bread pudding with croissant-chocolate ice cream was well-balanced and not overly sweet. Just a heads up: it's more of a rich ice cream with toppings than an actual croissant dessert. They offer a nice wine list plus a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I tried the non-alcoholic piña colada--it was refreshing, though I imagine it would shine even more with a splash of rum. I had to skip that part since I was driving. Baby... no That steak was fighting back. It was definitely overcooked and tough, which was disappointing because the flavor itself was actually really good. Here are the official family reviews because everybody had SOMETHING to say: My mom: "It was okay. I feel like the people who bring the food out need to have a better attitude and actually listen to the customers regarding their food." My nana: "I think it was simply amazing! The food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the servers were awesome giving extras and all. We stopped by this place for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away since they had couple of tables available. Our waiter Carlos we very friendly nice and professional. For appetizer we had the loaded Labneh and Greek salad. The Labneh with their warm soft pita bread was really good and the salad was so fresh crisp and refreshing in a hot day like today. For entree I ordered the shrimp Provençal and my girlfriend ordered the Scottish Salmon. The ingredients were extremely fresh and they were prepared very nicely delicately and plated very elegantly and appetizing to the point that I didn't even take a picture of it and just dug in Food tasted really delicious and it was so well balanced and palatable. We both finished our food which it happens rarely. We were both full but the quality of food and the presentation was so good that we decided to share a Cream brûlée for dessert. I visited Olive Restobar on a Friday for happy hour at 4:30 PM. The parking was congested and I had to park near Lazy Dog. Despite the busyness at that time, the hostess promptly seated my party of three. The restaurant had a lovely Christmas ambiance, complete with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree that added to the festive atmosphere. For food, I ordered one chicken kabob, one steak kabob, and a side of fries. The chicken was good and flavorful, while the steak was just average. As for drinks, I began with a hibiscus margarita. While it was visually stunning, it tasted artificial and lacked the freshness of a handcrafted drink. For my second round, I ordered a Cadillac margarita, which was well-crafted and strong. It was so strong I couldn't even finish it, but it's definitely the drink I would order again. Service was good, and overall, I would say Olive Restobar is worth a visit. A group of friends and I had the pleasure of dining at The Olive Restobar in Downey, and it was such a wonderful experience! First, I have to give a huge shout-out to our server, JJ. He was amazing, attentive, and genuinely caring servers I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly. Even though the restaurant was absolutely packed, he kept checking on our table, made made great recommendations, and kept bringing us their incredible garlic sauce. It was so good that I even took some home! Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the Greek salad with chicken, and it was delicious The chicken was flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. Whatever you order, make sure you dip your warm pita bread or even your chicken--into that amazing garlic sauce. Trust me, it's a game changer! JJ, thank you for making our evening so memorable.
