Another case in which I could assign half stars, I would rate this restaurant 3.5. I'll start with the good: we came for a birthday dinner and our table was reserved and waiting for us right away, which is always good. The service throughout the meal was excellent, our waitress was very attentive with refilling drinks, bringing more chips/ salsa, and checking in frequently if we needed anything. They offer a complimentary dessert for the birthday, which you can select from the menu. Not many places do this any more and this was greatly appreciated. For the not-so-good: the food wasn't great. My plate was a little overcooked, or maybe was sitting under a warmer for too long, because the enchilada sauce on my chile relleno was dried and the breading was nearing on burned. The enchiladas on my plate were also dry and didn't have enough sauce. My dining companions had similar issues with the food being dry or lacking enough sauce, although my brother enjoyed the adobo dish a lot. My wife couldn't eat her soup, the chowder was sweet in an unappealing way. The Cadillac margaritas we ordered were fine, but nothing to write home about. The rice that came with the dishes was unfortunately not fully cooked in places. For dessert, the crème brûlée was just okay, and the special raspberry cheesecake was excellent. We also noticed that the restaurant is very very loud, and found it difficult to carry a conversation amongst each other. I would probably return, and hope that it was just an off day in the kitchen with the dry/overcooked/undercooked food. read more

We had a party of 8 and our server did a fantastic job - even mixing our carafes of margaritas!, which were very fresh and flavorful. We tried the queso and the lobster dip as appetizers. Both were good, but I would highly recommend the lobster dip. It was loaded with big chunks of lobster, and I liked the dip flavor a bit more than the queso flavor. I had the tenderloin chile rellenos, and they were fantastic! I also liked that they came with rice and charro beans, instead of refried beans. My friends ordered the carne adovada and I had a few tastes. The meat was tender and flavorful, though it had a bit too much sauce for me. The salsa was a dark salsa (almost black), which I had never seen before - but it was really good. Don't let the outside of the building fool you. What a great find! This restaurant and bar has a great vibe from the minute you walk in. The food was AMAZING! The love started with the hot sauce, to the spices in the food, and ended with the "Christmas" sauce. Well, it actually ended with Cheesecake and homemade raspberry topping! A small but attractive spot to grab New Mexican style grub. Our friendly server and complimentary chips and salsa got us off to a good start. I ordered the mini shredded beef chimichanga, green style. You can also order it with red sauce (spicier) or Christmas style - both sauces. It comes with rice and whole pinto beans, both were very good. Even the mini version is very filling. We kind of forget Blue Adobe is here and need to remind ourselves to add it to our rotation. I have eaten at the Original Blue Adobe for years. I usually eat here before any performance I enjoy at the Mesa Performing Arts center. The menu has something for everyone. The daily special is a bargain. I particularly like the Meat Loaf...the only Meat Loaf I've ever liked. The Carne Abagados (sp?) is the best I've ever had. My friend and I both got the southwest pasta, my wife had the shrimp pizza and my friends wife got the chimi. It took more than 30 minutes to get our food. That got us off to a bad start. BTW the salsa is still excellent. However our meals weren't up to past visits. My pasta was bland. I had to add half a bowl of salsa to give it flavor. Saturday early evening, have been going to this place a couple times a year for awhile. It's just the perfect restaurant for me and my wife and we often bring friends. Why?? The food is consistently excellent, from traditional New Mexican dishes to the way they prepare steaks and seafood. The vibe is super casual but classy and quaint, the staff is so down to earth and kind and the value is tremendous. My recent third visit to the Blue Adobe Grill in Mesa has solidified this New Mexican Style eatery as one of the best. After having eaten at hundreds of different Mexican restaurants in my life it takes a lot to impress me. But impress Blue Adobe has. The stellar entrees, delightful & efficient staff, and cosy cantina setting make Blue Adobe my new favorite destination for Mexican food. Every great restaurant needs an iconic dish that becomes its signature for both what makes it great and what makes it unique. For Blue Adobe, it has two- the spooning rellenos, and the carne adovada. The spooning relleno is an amazing Anaheim pepper stuffed with a beef tenderloin and two cheeses and crusted with amazing chorizo. The carne adovada is red sauced and simmered chunks of pork that are the perfect combination of chile adobo "bite" and juicy pork savor. In addition to these great dishes, there are more than a dozen other excellent features from meatloaf to seafood enchiladas (which are, themselves, excellent) to juicy chicken tacos. This is New Mexican style food, so there are excellent chips and salsa, as well. The salsa is worthy of its own accolades- featuring a beautiful burnt pepper churn that pairs amazing with the crisp, hot tortilla chips. The staff that I have experience at the Original Blue Adobe grill in Mesa have been nothing but amazing each visit. Smiles and kind words are nice, but when combined with efficient service and attentiveness makes the whole experience perfect. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with the good service here. This small eatery on Country Club Drive (just quarter mile north of Main) is easy to miss from the road, but once you are inside, the relatively narrow corridor of its sitting area feels much larger by the visual layout and segmented panels spaced between edge tables. The bar, decor, music and warmth of the place sits you in a cantina that feels like sitting down in a relatives home. I loved the experience. I am not sure why I had not tried this place before. But it has now become one of my favorite destinations! I'm not sure what type of salsa it was, but I would've taken a jar home with me if I could have. I ordered the Chorizo Stuffed Chicken and wow was it delicious. Tender enough that I cut it WITH A BUTTER KNIFE. The sauce on top threw me for a loop - it's sweet - but somehow ties everything together perfectly. We wanted to love this place so much! We've been trying to go here for at least a year now and finally had the opportunity to go recently. We went in and loved that they had a very unique menu with non-traditional Mexican dishes that we hadn't had before. The triple dip was amazing and came with a lobster queso, a bean dip, and guacamole. We loved the triple dip, and the large flour tortillas that came with it. I ordered lettuce taco wraps, which was probably a mistake on my part. The chicken was really good, but it just in general the meal was not satisfying to me. Of course I was also trying to be health conscious and that is why I ordered the lettuce wraps, so maybe I should've expected them to not be so filling. Our daughter ordered the garlic shrimp pizza and she did not like it at all. I tasted it and the crust was good, but there was just something about shrimp and pine nuts on a pizza that wasn't right. We sent that back and she ended up just getting a Caesar salad which she loved. My husband ordered a beef chimichanga and he said it was amazing! He really enjoyed his meal. He also had the Cruise Caddy margarita, which was a hit. Our server was amazing and we did love the look and the vibe in the restaurant, but personally, I think I'd like to see some more traditional or authentic Mexican dishes, which is what we went there for. I feel like it was a case of mismatched expectations, when we went there, we had a different idea in our heads about the food. We may give it another try sometime, but I feel like it was fair for me to share my review of our first visit. Just make sure you really look at the menu before you go there so you realize that this place is truly unique and the options they have. I think if I had spent more time reviewing the menu before I got there, I might not have been disappointed. I will also say that this place was so flippin busy and the team there did an excellent job at keeping things moving. The beef had a really nice flavor and the rice was probably the best Mexican rice I've ever had. The only thing we didn't love was the guacamole appetizer.
