We just had food catered for our daughter engagement party at our house for 80 people. I can't tell you how many people came up to us and asked where we got the food from. It was excellent from the dinner to dessert. We got the chicken Marsala, sausage and peppers, teriyaki steak, fried rice and scalloped potatoes. Even the cookie and brownie platter. I always do my own cooking. I worry about there being enough. There was plenty for seconds. The staff is friendly and helpful. The deli is clean. Also, while I was standing there to order the food a customer tapped me on the shoulder and said. She orders her catered food there and won't go anywhere else. I also was talking to my neighbor and she said she was just at a party that had food from there and it was excellent, which made me feel good before the event even happened. I will give them a 2 because they do have some items that are worth the humiliation going in there. I have been here 16 years and stopped going in there for years. The attitude of their staff should not be tolerated nor allowed. The owners of this place are so disconnected from what is really going on at the counters. Disrespect through and through. A Long Island staple for as long as I can remember. This deli offers huge variety and an above average hot foods section. Great place for egg Sammie's in the morning, I love the ribs here. Just ate here and it was okay. Food is nothing special, and way overpriced. My wrap was 7.50 and was very tiny, and definitely not as big as other wraps I get from other delis. Fireside used to be the place to go for catering, especially for Thanksgiving (you MUST try the limited pumpkin or pecan pies that they sell on Thanksgiving). However, I never thought about trying the food that they offered year-round... until now, and boy did I miss a gem. The deli combinations and the hot foods that they offer (which I think vary day-to-day) taste great, and they all come at a very fair price. Things that you must look out for though are the elusive chicken pot pie and shepard's pie that they offer every now and then (they sell-out really fast). Only complaint that I have are that their roasted chicken and ribs are a bit dry, but it seems like they've changed that recently. read more

My family has been a customer of Fireside for decades and there's a reason we have continued to return - the variety and high quality of the foods. A particular favorite - and our most recent order - was a three-foot hero with grilled chicken and grilled vegetables. It comes highly recommended as the ratio of vegetables to cutlets was perfect and even better when topped off with some Thousand Island dressing. In addition, we had macaroni salad and cucumber-tomato salad, also delicious and a great addition to the lunch. After hearing from other people of this place, I decided to order my family dinner for a special occasion. So, I called and was told by a person that they have what I wanted and I can come in and get it. I told them I wanted to make sure they have the items I needed and left an order with the same person even told her why I was concerned and how important this meal will be for us. She told me the price, how many people it would feed and took my order. Well the next day my husband went there and no food was ready, he had to wait a long time, then when he came home there wasn't enough food to feed barely anyone. We were so dissapointed, so I called the deli manager and she was so not nice with hearing our complaints, nor was she interested in what we had to say. I ordered the sliced turkey for Thanksgiving and it looked like pulled chicken when we opened the cover. The turkey was dry and ended up in the garbage. When I called to speak to the manager she was beyond rude. I was told that I should have brought the product back to the store and that pictures weren't enough . Yesterday I ordered food for 12 people from Fireside in Plainview. I ordered BBQ chicken, Ribs and shrimp. I also ordered Roasted Potatoes, creamed spinach and Pasta Salad. The Roasted Potatoes were so overcooked and the creamed spinach was like soup. I didnt eat the Chicken or Ribs but my husband did and said they also were overcooked and tasted terrible. The shrimp was okay but I was embarrassed that I had given this to my family. Luckily I ordered a half tray of eggplant parmigiana from Reimo' Pizza on Woodbury Rd. For years my daughter and I have ordered the cutup Fireside Chicken on our way back from visiting my folks in Plainview. Generally we get 3-4 chickens cut up, and a few sides like mashed potatoes, sometimes rice, and veggies. We eat a few pieces on the way back to Connecticut. The price is a tad higher than expected, but the service and product are solid. The chicken has a great and real BBQ flavor, unlike the places that carry make believe BBQ. I've used these guys a few times in the past for catering and I work close by so I've stopped in on occasion and have never been disappointed. Yesterday was my daughter's birthday and I ordered a 4ft hero with sides (on short notice). The food was delicious! The sandwiches were fresh, perfectly cut and had just enough of everything. The side salads were plentiful and the mac salad was amazing. Their prices are reasonable and better than most around - especially for the amount of food you're getting. My office just moved back into the area, used to order lunch from the deli daily. However things must have change because this was the worst lunch I had in a very long time and the customer service was no better. Just ordered two chicken cordon blue specialty sandwiches. The food is good, the place is clean, the scale NEVER works in your favor. The staff never "tares" the scale for the weight of the container before printing out the cost on the sticker. It is always," I am sorry from the manager". I get really tired of asking them to re-weight the salads so I don't have to pay for the weight of the container with my salads. I would give this deli 2 more stars were it not for that REALLY rude woman behind the counter. She has gray hair in a long pony tail. She is consistently, unnecessarily and extraordinarily RUDE to every customer. I have gotten to the point of when she looks at me and asks if I'm next, I tell her "no" and just wait for the next available deli person. And, true to form, she is rude to the person she helps after me. Management should do something about her. I work in customer service and manage a facility so I don't waste my time to say something negative unless it's truthful and deserved. The food is great but there are a lot of nasty people working here. I eat here 3 times a week. I asked for a hero- turkey and cheese on one side and roastbeef and cheese on the other side. I like both but clearly that's a problem. Sometimes when I ask for this the employees would give me an attitude. Today I received such an attitude and an employee refused to make my sandwich and just walked away. He initially said "No i'm not doing that." and I said "I get this every time i'm here" and he responded "Well I'm not doing it." He proceeded to walk away and go do something else while I waited for someone else to help me. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. It almost sounds so unbelievable. I get lunch from fireside at least twice a week. They have great selections and the food is really good. Customer service is great too, the guys working are friendly and never had a bad experience with them. They have a lot of stuff not available anywhere else. They have a very large selection of food from loads of different deli sandwiches to many different hot food specials like pasta, ribs and chicken parm. This place sucks. The owner is a real prick and the food is garbage. There used to be a small authentic Chinese Restaurant next door, that was owned by some very decent and hard working first generation immigrants, who took pride in what they did and in the service and food they served. These people would commute daily from NYC to run their business and provide for their young family. When the Chinese Restaurant became very popular, the owner of Fireside took offense and did everything in his power to drive them out of business. He was constantly calling the police on them to have them harassed for having too many people in their restaurant, which was never the case, and was constantly calling the town inspectors and complaining about parking. He even made threats to these kind people, that they wouldn't report because they wanted to avoid trouble. If he had any brains at all, he would have taken advantage of all the new traffic in the strip mall and marketed his food to these people, who would have never tried his place if it weren't for the Chinese Restaurant being there. For this I will never forgive him and never patronize this dump. Why patronize a place like this, when an owner is this much of a douche bag? read more
