This place was a favorite of my grandparents. They always wanted to go here. I never much liked the place personally as it's just not my kind of place. It's a typical family restaurant which used to serve all three meals but dropped dinner off the menu years ago. It has since grown on me as an adult since it's a quaint family owned and run restaurant and they have made good strides in adding more interesting foods to the menu over the years. Everything is always cooked well and satisfies the needs of typical and a little more unique breakfast choices. The atmosphere is casual and cozy and great for family gatherings. We took out from there recently and I was pretty shocked at the amount of random sauces and plastic utensils given. It's thoughtful and kind to provide everything you think we might need but it's bad for the environment when a lot of it will go to waste. Please work on simply asking people if they would like any butter, ketchup or utensils or if they don't need it. Overall this place is just not what I would personally use as a go to but it's a quality family restaurant great for basic and not so basic breakfast with very friendly family owners. I'm flabbergasted at the response I received from the server and even more so the owner. We had already planned on going back until I asked a question about our bill. I thought I had ordered a special and questioned the waitress. Her response was she assumes the customer orders the platter unless they say special. Since it was our first visit I mentioned it may be nice to let a customer know. She responded with why would I do that the restaurant looses money. I had apparently missed the instructions that you have to say special when you order from the special menu. So when I went to pay I mentioned to the owner what happened. At that point he would not even look at me. In fact I'm sure it was in error but he short changed me by a few coins. Then he came back got in my face while I was looking for my keys, he talked over me, said he had nice customers and said there is the door. I did not ask to be comped I was only talking. In fact I told him the food and the waitresses service was good. He told me if it was so good he would not be talking to me. Wow just wow. I'm sure he was just having a bad day but in reading the reviews he apparently has fits of anger. I only asked a question and made a suggestion. Have had breakfast here before and it was decent and service was good. But, had a BLT for lunch and was terrible. Had 3 slices of bacon and they used a tomato that had the unedible core and lettuce that was old and brown. Not hard to make a BLT, but they seemed to have a problem. We live just down the street and drive past this restaurant everyday. It wasn't until today that we got to try out it out. When we arrive we were seated immediately. However, once we sat down at the table it took us quite a bit of time to have someone greet us let alone serve us water. We finally ordered drinks without server only to have the bus boy come by and say let me get you your drinks, because your server will never get it. Within moments we finally got our drinks. About 5 minutes later our server came back to take our orders, and basically rushed us through ordering. The bright side is that the food came out super quickly and tasted phenomenal! We were starving and didn't think twice about taking pictures of our food before eating. But I had the loaded omelet and the Hershey's chocolate pancakes with bananas and a peanut drizzle they literally tasted like snickers in pancake form! SO good! We only then realized that my husband didn't get his full order and when we were finally able to flag our server down, she realized she forgot but huffed and puffed about it as she went to go get it for us. Had the most delicious tortilla soup but as I was eating it i took a bite of something spoiled. Not sure exactly what it was. I told the tattooed waitress and her response was basically I was wrong and it must be the cheese or tortilla in the soup because they make everything fresh. It's pretty insulting that she thinks I don't know the difference between spoiled food and food I eat all the time. I also had the turkey wrap which was bland. Bad experience today. Classic restaurant with a good variety of food on the menu. Reminds me of the restaurants my parents used to take us as kids back in the 70s and 80s. Wow...what a surprise. I've driven past this place for 20 years and never thought of trying it until a friend checked in and it came onto my radar. There are so many breakfast places on the north side it's always a challenge on where to go and which one stands out. I checked out there reviews and they are all correct. The owner greeted us and sat us quickly and service was prompt and efficient. Two breakfast items that i love are corned beef hash and Country fried steak which are rare to find in this area. I point blank asked the waiter if the corned beef was homemade and he said no so we skipped that. We had a skillet and the country fried steak which were both delicious. The eggs where perfectly cooked and hash browns are sliced potatoes which was a nice change of pace. I would of given them 5 stars if the steak was homemade but i still enjoyed everything. read more

I have been eating at Original Granny's for past 20+ years. I remember coming to eat there as child with my parents and now I eat there with my husband and our kids. This place never disappoints. You still see George (original owner) walking around greeting everyone and running the register. It's a family run restaurant and when you eat there, they treat you like family. Food is tipical breakfast/lunch diner food, always fresh, hot, properly cooked and portions are more than generous. If you have a sweet tooth it is the place for you! You must try "Loukomada French Toast". The manu is big and will accommodate any taste or craving. Prices are reasonable. This place has a pretty large menu but is very average in their food. It's not exactly good but not exactly bad. The textures are okay and it's not overly flavorful or flavorless. If you're in the area and you want a sit in place with a more complete menu and good prices you can stop by, but it's not a place I would make a special trip to have a meal at. read more

The chaotic and cramped environment makes it a bit hard to enjoy breakfast here. The interior reminds me of a really old, outdated Baker's Square or something, it's very depressing. Granny's serves a decent brunch though. My ham and cheese omelette and chocolate chip pancakes were good. My companions were all happy with their breakfast as well. Coffee is refilled every few minutes, you never have to worry about your cup going dry here. Our server was an older sassy woman...she served some food and served some sass (in a good way). Our whole bill for four was less than I would spend on one person here in NYC (reverse sticker shock). You pay at the front. Very old school. I lived in Wheeling for almost 20 years and literally lived down the street from this place, but I never went to this family owned establishment until last October. We went on a Sunday when the place was packed with all elderly church goers? They all could have been regulars and I could see why. I really got bummed that my son and I never got to try this place coz undeniably the owner didn't allow us in..I got here at 3.40 it was clearly written open till 4.. he ran to close the door on us. At first I was simply tickled.. thinking it may be the color of our skin made him not welcome us.. when I demanded an answer as to why he was rushing to close the door and even proffered why doesn't he want us.. he said we were likely going to keep his workers beyond 5pm.. and he didn't want to pilau them.. then I didn't buy that.. so gr now said he is doing some work So since I don't live near here I begged as improbable as it sounds I offered to carry out and he smiled no.. I liked the skillets and pancakes here, but apparently making a fried egg with a hard yolk without burning it is next to rocket science. I walked out having eaten burnt hash browns and two pancakes because apparently it's too hard to make a normal egg. This is a hidden gem! We have been in Wheeling for 4 years and recently discovered Granny's. We are regulars now! Their food is out of this world, pancakes are delicious and with so many options. I go in there regularly. Fantastic family owners. The food is very good but the service horrible. Don't expect to even be acknowledge by the heavy set tatooed waitress there for at least 15 minutes. They bring coffee to you fast, but she will not even say "I'll be right with you" when she walks past you 20 times. Sad. I had to walk out after 15 minutes. My apetite went right down the tubes. People all around me eating, and getting served and no one came to take my order. They put the blank check on the table to que the waitress that you haven't ordered. Called in for curbside pickup, food was ready in 10 minutes and when we arrived there was no wait as one of the gentlemen working there brought out our food. My fiance placed an order on Grubhub only to find out that this restaurant doesn't "associate" with Grubhub. When she called to merely inquire about the status of our order, she was unexpectedly met with extremely rude remarks saying, "you should have known we don't deal with Grubhub", "you deserve this!" etc. To the owner: If your restauarant doesn't support Grubhub, you should have had it removed from the site instead of being rude to the CUSTOMER who wouldn't have a clue whether your establishment takes orders through Grubhub or not (was listed on Grubhub).
