Our first visit here, but we'll be back next time we're in Savannah. We went there for breakfast, and there were so many things to try that it was hard to make up our minds. We finally did, but with just the two of us we barely scratched the surface and we really enjoyed everything we ate (and drank)! Not the most fancy place to have breakfast (has that school cafeteria look) and there's a lot of noise coming from the kitchen area, but the menu is VERY extensive and creative, and the food was very good. I got the three large breakfast sausages rolled in pancakes, which came with an orange marmalade syrup with real orange bits in it it. Husband had the pancake sampler, which came with his choice of three different pancakes from their extensive selection and three syrups/toppings. One was a delicious maple syrup which was great with his bacon pancakes, another was a blueberry compote with real blueberries (real blueberries in the blueberry pancakes as well), and he also go the orange marmalade syrup/topping that I got with my sausage & pancakes. We both had iced coffee, which came with vanilla creamers (a favorite of ours). Our meals came out pretty quickly even through there were quite a few other customers. This is not your typical pancake restaurant, and the menu went well beyond that of a typical breakfast joint. Not just the usual your egg combos and pancakes, but a very wide selection of pancakes and waffles with different ingredients mixed in (fruits, chocolate chips, bacon, etc.) and various toppings. They have a variety of omelets, all the usual breakfast meats and then some, several of them in different styles, including bacon, ham, sausage, corned beef hash, steak, shrimp, and crab, and a few types of eggs benedict. Also, several styles of crepes from different countries, some southern favorites such as shrimp and grits, and some international breakfast specialties as well (German pancakes, potato pancakes. Lunch options are also available, but we were there for breakfast and didn't really spend time looking at that part of the menu. Looking forward to going back on our next trip to Savannah (we're usually there at least a couple times a year) and trying some more of their breakfast items! A old school restaurant with a breakfast/dinner feel. Located by the Oglethorpe Mall, the Original Pancake House hits the spot if you're looking for yummy homestyle comfort food. They're open for breakfast and lunch, but have a large menu. I personally love their strawberry crepes. The crepe is absolutely delicious, but it's the fresh whipped cream for me! You can order them just a single crepe or an order of 3. They have a handful of options (fruit and savory) and you can mix and match your 3. My husband got a Philly sandwich with fries. I didn't realize they had fresh cut fries!! They were sooo good! He said the sandwich was a tad greasy, but good. And the prices are reasonable! read more

I recently started making poached eggs for my husband and really enjoy them. So we are visiting Savannah and stopped here for breakfast with our son who wanted pancakes. We were excited to try the eggs Benedict. I got the crab Cake Benedict and hubby got the steak one. My son got chocolate chip pancakes and turkey sausage. Everything was absolutely delicious! This was my first time here because I save the breakfast trips for when other people want to eat that early. This time it was my mom, we both ordered hot tea which warmed my soul. My mom got the oven baked 5-egg omelette with shrimp and some modifications and pancakes. I got the ham, eggs and silver dollar pancakes. The omelettes are a pretty penny but can definitely be shared amongst two with ease so it's worth the money. Our server was training, she was great but her trainee Harold just seemed like he's in the wrong field. This gem is located in Midtown, right by the Kroger near Mall Boulevard on Hodgson Memorial. They've got a small parking lot out front (shared with a couple of other restaurants) and additional parking behind, which is convenient for busy weekends. The staff here are absolutely fantastic--super friendly and always on top of refills. They understand the importance of coffee first thing in the morning, and you won't have to wait long before your cup's topped off. They're open for both breakfast and lunch, but if you're heading in for breakfast on the weekend (especially after church), be prepared for it to be a bit busy. That said, the food is totally worth the wait. Portions are HUGE, the bacon is perfectly crispy, and if you're gluten-free, you'll be thrilled to know they offer both gluten-free pancakes and waffles! While they don't offer fancy coffee drinks or dairy-free options, the star here is definitely the gluten-free pancakes. Im.pretty sure they had 12 kinds of pancakes! Plus lots and lots and lots of other choices for breakfast. It's usually very easy for me to decide on breakfast. Not this time. I finally settled on Georgia pecan pancakes. He had eggs Benedict with home fries and one biscuit (can you add a little sausage gravy? Sure thing, honey.) Lots of Southern charm found at this place. My pancakes were Big. Too big, I could only eat two. His breakfast was delicious too, and of course we sampled each others. Will definitely make this a monthly stop when we move here. A few weeks ago, my Sister-In-Love and my beautiful nieces came for breakfast. This visit was extra special because it had been a while since we have enjoyed a day together. Our wait time was less than ten minutes. Our waitress took our drink orders, giving us time to peruse the menu. I already know what I wanted - the crabcake omelet. My first visit was more than five years ago, and I never forgot how rich and decadent this delicious omelet tasted. So, for the second time, I ordered the 5-egg crabcake omelet with a side of pancakes. My sister-in-love ordered the crabcake breakfast with scrambled eggs and a side of hollandaise. Beauty Queen Number 1 ordered steak and eggs over easy, and Beauty Queen Number 2 ordered the banana pancakes with a side of bacon. My omelet was epically delicious - a gi-normous, meaty crabcake cradled within a fluffy cloud of eggs, accompanied by a side of hollandaise and a nice stack of tender, fluffy pancakes. Kudos to the chefs for providing such generous portions. If you leave the Original Pancake House hungry, that's your fault, lol! Because it's impossible to leave this place hungry. If anything, you'll be so full and satisfied that you'll wish there was a sofa to sleep off your imminent food coma. Needless to say, we enjoyed our food so much. We're looking g forward to another visit, but not too soon because at almost two thousand calories, my calorie allowance was blown away, with enough for the next day. Our waitress was very nice. I would have loved for her to be more prompt with the coffee refills, but nothing was seriously lacking. My only concern is the space of the dining area. Seating was a little tight, but manageable. There's an outdoor seating area, but it was so hot, dining inside was much more preferable. All in all, we really enjoyed our breakfast. We'll be visiting again. read more

It seems like every major Southern city or tourist center has it's own "Original" pancake house. But still...it was recommended by a couple folks, including the staff at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car location we had to stop at...and it was close by, so we opted for a mid-morning bite to eat here. It was busy, but we were seated quickly. We got coffees ordered and then got to looking at the menu. There is an abundance of options for all variety of breakfast foods and meals and toppings for those pancakes and waffles. But this is like...a step above a Waffle House. Very much a diner with a little dash of corporate-ness. The food was fine. We left full and fed. Service was a bit slow and honestly our visit should have been over 15-20 minutes sooner than it was. But the food eventually came, refills were eventually refilled....it was all very lackadaisical. There are plenty of other decent sounding breakfast places that I think I would try before returning here on a future visit. read more

The Original Pancake House is a local breakfast staple in Southside Savannah. It is quality food, well done, and semi quickly dependent upon what you order. The service is always great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food comes out quickly. Yet again depending upon what you order. There are a few items on the menu which staff will tell you are not quick to cook. The restaurant has a variety of seating. When you enter you will see a bar directly in front of you with stool seating. There are also tables and banquets throughout the rest of the space. The bathrooms are directly to your left when you enter the front doors. Pancake is in the name, and the pancakes are awesome here! An entire page on the menu is dedicated to them. I am personally a fan of a classic with maple syrup. Their maple syrup is served warm here by the way. But there are a variety of mix-ins and syrups offered on the menu. I am generally an espresso person. This is one of the very few places I actually will order a plain cup of coffee. They have good coffee. I also love their mugs! They are made out of ceramic. Also shaped to fit your hands. Your coffee does not get cold quickly and your hands will not get burnt by the mug. My go to meal for breakfast is the eggs and bacon. You will choose how you like your eggs. They always come out perfectly. The chefs in the back are egg masters. I ask for extra crispy bacon. And finally you get pancakes too! Or you can switch to grits, toast, or another side of choice depending upon price. The grits are delicious here too! Go grab yourself some pancakes, crepes, eggs, or grab a sandwich! Yum!! Finally gave this spot a try for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 10:30am, and it was packed!!! From families leaving Saturday sport events, older groups meeting up to hang, and young people dragging their feet from the night before (and everyone in between). Definitely a "come as you are" kind of place, and I love it. We waited about 15-20 to be seated, and almost slipped on our way to our seats. The services here are quick! For good reason, but one almost tackled me as I rounded the corner. The place could be a bit cleaner, but I will say it gets the job done. I'll definitely be back, the food tasted so good! The TL;DR version of my review: This is definitely one of the better places in Savannah for breakfast. And now for the longer version: My wife and I came here for breakfast twice within a 7-day period last month. In fact, both visits were exactly seven days apart and we ordered the exact same thing both times. My wife ordered the Senior Plate with a scrambled egg, turkey sausage and gluten-free pancakes. The regular price for the Junior/Senior Plate is $9.00 and then there was a $2.00 upcharge for the gluten-free pancakes in lieu of the regular ones. Rather than selecting a regular entree, I went with three side dishes: oatmeal ($5.25), the large fried potatoes ($4.25), and a large fruit plate ($5.25). My wife was very pleased with her meal both times, but I encountered a problem with mine: while the oatmeal and the fruit plate were fine, my fried potatoes arrived at my table greasy and lukewarm. And this happened on both of my visits. In fact, the only reason that I ordered the fried potatoes again on my second visit was because I wanted to see if the subpar plate I had been served the first time was an anomaly. It wasn't. Each time, I sent them back and received a better version in return. Needless to say, however, I won't be ordering the fried potatoes a third time. But one bad dish isn't enough to warrant a bad review and/or tell people not to come here. As I stated in my initial sentence, this is one of the better breakfast restaurants in Savannah and definitely worthy of four stars when considering the competition. read more

This morning for breakfast we ventured into The Original Pancake House. Walked in and was seated right away. Our waitress Jamie came over and introduced herself and took our drink order. Now mind you this is my first time here. Lots of options on the menu for all types of pancakes. I wanted the Pecan Omelette. Jamie who was very nice and knowledgeable advised I can get my omelette and just pay an up charge to have the Pecan pancakes with it. She warned me the omelettes are big. She did not lie, I was expecting it to be big but not humongous! You can eat off one omelette at least 3-4 times. I ordered the omelette with spinach, mushrooms, onions and was able to have two types of cheese in it. I could taste each vegetable which made the flavor of the omelette stand out. It was scrumptious. My Pecan pancakes were just as good. The pancakes are made from scratch and you can definitely tell they are no box pancakes. I really enjoyed my pancakes and finished off all four of them. As for my omelette I have a lot left over in which I will enjoy another day. We were visiting Savannah for couple days and after being in the urgent care for 4 hours we needed some food and happened upon this place (in the same shopping Centre) 3 stars for super friendly and quick service and good food.
