I ducked into The Original Pancake House this morning with an empty belly and a head full of hope, and I walked back out cradling a little breakfast story I can't wait to pass along. From the very first bite, the food wrapped me up like a cozy blanket. The servers, meanwhile, moved with a laid-back, almost Sunday-morning calm, even though the calendar said otherwise. That easy pace wasn't a deal breaker, but it did have me sneaking glances toward the kitchen, part patient and part curious. When the omelet finally arrived, my eyes widened. Calling it an omelet feels too plain. Picture a quiche teaming up with an airy pile of eggs and stacking itself sky-high, one luscious layer after another. The whole thing reminded me of a savory, egg-only lasagna. Each forkful was soft, buttery, and delightfully rich. While I waited, I hugged a mug of coffee between my palms. Nothing fancy to report--just hot, strong, caffeinated comfort doing exactly what I needed it to do as the morning rubbed the sleep from its eyes. I strolled out already plotting a return for the specialty pancakes everyone keeps buzzing about. If they're half as magical as that omelet, I might have to set up permanent residence. Stopped in this morning with 2 friends. We have been here before and it has always been great. This time was no exception. We were seated quickly and our order was taken immediately. We went with the Blueberry Pancakes, Veggie Omelet and Michael's Eggs Benedict. I don't remember the prices because my friend paid for it all. The service was polite, quick and exemplary. The food and refillable coffee was DELIGHTFUL & DELICIOUS! We were able to take our time eating and then stay a while to relax, talk and enjoy more coffee. It was a PLEASANT dining experience. Left home looking forward to an awesome breakfast but it didn't turn out as well as we hoped. As we got out of our car we noticed signs posted on the door that they will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays until further notice and another advising that they were hiring for cooks, hostesses, and servers. There was one young lady inside doing her best to run between the cashier position to the hostess stand and seating guests. She looked frustrated but was trying to hide it. Once seated we were greeted by our server who did an excellent job. Unfortunately the menu was about 1/3rd or less then it used to be. We both ordered and were served our meals within 8-10 minutes and it was piping hot and correct. I complaints here or with our service. The food was very good although since the choices on the menu weren't what they used to be I had to settle for what was being offered. The side / add on items seemed to all be very overpriced for what was offered. Note that this is in a Sunday at 11:00 when there is usually a line out the door and a 45 minute wait. Once again, The Original Pancake House did not disappoint. My daughter likes coming here occasionally in remembrance of her father who passed away a few years ago. It was his favorite breakfast stop. The food was fresh, hot and a feast for the eyes and stomach. My Strawberry Belgian Waffle was prepared exactly as I like it; with tons of whipped cream, powdered sugar, strawberries, & strawberry syrup, along with a side a bacon and their famous deluxe potatoes. It was way too much food for me to eat but I gave it a good try. I went on a Wednesday morning and it was the first time we did not have to wait to be seated which was even better as wait times on the weekends can be long sometimes. Our table had a wide array of food such as Strawberry Belgium waffle, Bacon Belgium waffle, Chocolate Chip Belgium Waffle, Pancakes, Bacon, Deluxe potatoes, sausage, and an assortment of juices. I thought yall were lose lose situation here in OH in comparison to some down south cooling I'm used to be this right here BAAAABBBY you've got to go try it and have the Dutch apple baby oven heavenly thing. When we first came the hostess wasn't the friendliest, but our waitress was amazing. The menu needs a little more clarification that pancakes come with the eggs and whatever meat you decide on. It has been years since I have been to the pancake house. I came in with my BFF for breakfast, to start with the menu is still a Covid Shortened Menu. So limited options compared to what they use to offer. The food was just as good as I remember, the pancakes are freaking yummy. I had a few bites. My crepes were perfect. The coffee was well, let's just say it has caffeine. The service was good, a little slow, but hey they only had one server working so yep might be slow, but she was very polite and treated us very well. This review is solely about the service and ambience... we never made it to the food. This restaurant has a bad smell. And it feels dirty. We walked in at 2:20 PM, knowing the restaurant closed at three, we thought we could just grab something quick before they close . When we walked in my kids and husband and I all just looked at each other like "uh-oh"... but we haven't had OPH in a long time so we stayed. The ladies working saw us through the glass panes on the restaurant side, and said some things to one another before one came to greet us. I use the word "greet" loosely because she never actually said hello. She just looked at us and said, "five?" before grabbing some pitifully laminated paper menus. We shuffled into the booth understanding they clearly did not want us here. A young lady came to our table with a coffee carafe , but before even pouring a cup she let us know they shut down the ovens so anything that needed baked we couldn't order. Then just paused and looked at us, as if to say 'are you sure you want to stay?? " We smiled, thanked her, and told the kids let's head out. At this point we didn't want to stay. It was not worth the gross atmosphere and rude customer service. We did not walk in 2 minutes until close... it's was 40 minutes until the restaurant's posted closing time. If I were the manager or owner I would sorely disappointed to know my employees behaved in such a way. It sounds like there's an OPH across town... maybe go to that one. read more

Went here at request of a visiting family member, the place just isn't what it used to be. Menu has shrunk considerably and it seems dated, reminds me of a 1990s breakfast restaurant. Service was okay, nothing bad nothing special. Pricing was very reasonable. Potatoes and pancakes were good. My major complaint is they don't have any REAL maple syrup, just the genetic chemical stuff. I would only go back if out of town family request it again. read more

I found this place by accident and gave it a try. It is really good. The first time I had a stack of pancakes and an orange juice. The juice was freshly made. The pancakes were delicious and cane with a homemade jam. My server Sharon was very helpful with the menu. The food arrived in a good time. I went for a second time and had the vegetarian omelette. That was a monster! It was a big omelette with fresh veggies. The menu is not as limited as other reviews said. It has lot of options of eggs dishes, breakfast meats, toasts and pancakes. Visited today in the ongoing quest for great Sunday brunch stops. This ultimately did not make the list. Everything was pretty much okay, not bad but not memorable. Service too was okay, kind of lackluster but friendly and we did get checked on. Now I'm not price fixated, but in this case it's way too expensive for what you get, and considering this is actually a huge national chain (didn't realize that before). $3.25 for a cuppa coffee? I paid less for coffee with breakfast in the East Village, Manhattan! And this was just average coffee, too, what you'd get in a hotel lobby. Being pancake-centric, note the egg dishes do not come with potatoes as you might expect. We took a side order which is suitable for two. They were good, just simple diced home fries. Supposed to have onions in them but for the life of me, I couldn't find any. My husband had eggs with sausage links, which were above average. I had the 'two by four' which is two eggs and four pancakes. Cakes were AOK, but I was expecting a wow in this area. Added ham which was super boring, very small portion and not worth half of what they charged. Ok so far, at our table and the service is pretty decent. The 1 star is purely because of the menu. It is DIFFERENT than it's sister (blue ash) 15 minutes away and not worth coming to if you have any food allergies or are picky about your food at all. They do not make any exceptions. They are also missing the goetta off the menu at this location and that just is disappointing. I am allergic to wheat. I know, why are you at a pancake place, but the other Original Pancake House has a gluten free, bless their hearts. With a restaurant with the same name you expect the same menu. (All McDonald's are the same, Buffalo Wild Wings, ect.) Any who, not only do they not have the main item we came for but my omelette comes with a stack of three pancakes, which they couldn't switch out for potatoes. Just a note from a customer, food allergies are weird. They make you feel weird, and alienated. I don't like not being able to order like a regular person. I don't like feeling sick when I eat. I have a hard time eating out and was excited to enjoy a meal with my boyfriend on his birthday and instead he's eating pancakes he didn't want and I'm a terrible girlfriend. What a subpar experience. As you walk in you pass the restrooms, that smell of sewage. The ac was broken but they didn't add fans or anything to help. The wait staff was slow, but kind. The food was meh ... but the price was bonkers. $32 for pancakes, bacon and sausage patties. $32. The upkeep of the restaurant was abysmal, the exterior hasn't had the grass cut or bushes trimmed yet this year. I have been going to the original pancake house for a long time but this was my first time at this location. The food is the same and very nostalgic and yummy the portions are huge but good for the price and make good leftovers. This one looked pretty outdated on the inside and the service was only ok. But I know everyone has a hard time hiring right now. I know some locations have gluten and dairy free options and that would be nice. My son is dairy free and the toast had butter on it anyways. The service was good. That's where it ended. We ordered our food and then realized there was a fan running right over us. It's winter. I asked for the fan to be stopped. Waiter said she could slow it, not stop it, but didn't. She brought 3 oversized pancakes each were ice cold by the 3rd bite. She brought our order, and threw it down in front of us. Within minutes it was ice cold. Cold eggs and pancakes are not a treat. The coffee was tepid. Then I realized there was a strong offensive odor coming from somewhere. I realized it was coming from the rest rooms close to us. I realized that was why they won't stop the fan. Then I glanced down at the floor and saw the dirt that had accumulated over time from poor mopping. As we left, I saw the entire area was filthy. Sorry I didn't take pictures. Great place for Breakfast. My favorite is the feta-spinach-sun dried tomato omelet. It comes with 3 pancakes. The portions are large so when I order this there is always enough for a take home meal too! The German style pancake is also a winner- but be prepared to wait a little on this. Recently, my wife and I decided to go to The Original Pancake House for breakfast. We've been to this restaurant a few times, but I've never written a review about it...which isn't right. Please allow me to make it right. Menu: The Original Pancake House offers a large variety of omelets, waffles, pancakes (of course), bacon and eggs. Making a decision was difficult, especially with all the choices. My wife ordered bacon, scrambled eggs and pecan pancakes. I ordered the same, but with regular, buttermilk pancakes instead. We shared an order of Deluxe Potatoes - (which has cheese, onion and red/green peppers). Food: The Deluxe Potatoes arrived first, along with the scrambled eggs and bacon. Potatoes and bacon were top notch! The scrambled eggs, were not that great to me because of both portion and "done-ness". My wife received a large portion of eggs, while I received a significantly lesser amount. My eggs were runny on the inside, as if they hurried to get it out of the pan, and they were not good. Our meals came with pancakes, but my wife didn't receive her order. It wasn't until the waitress came to check on us (about 5 minutes after we received the rest of our food), that she asked us if everything was all right. Sadly, she didn't even realize my wife's order wasn't complete, and we let her know about the pecan pancakes. When she brought out the pancakes, they were cold...meaning they had come up hot, and no one thought to bring them over when they were ready. Atmosphere: TOPH has an "Old-World" decor to it which is decent. I do have to admit, there's an odd air to the place, (and I'm not talking an odor). Whenever I eat there, I just don't feel as relaxed as I do in other places. You can chalk that up to me being me, but when I don't feel relaxed somewhere, I don't stay to order much. Service: Our waitress was somewhat friendly and took our order well. She checked on us and refilled our water which was very good. However, the pecan pancake problem was an unusual oversight, especially when it came with the meal. I was surprised the waitress didn't offer to take it back, considering they were cold, but we just dealt with it. Besides the waitress, the check out clerk was the only other friendly person there. Summary: The Original Pancake House is a very, very good restaurant for getting a hearty breakfast or brunch. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good meal and (like myself) LOVES breakfast food. Just be aware, friendliness doesn't always come with the meal. read more

I'm actually shocked that I've never reviewed the Original Pancake House. Love, love, LOVE this place. When we first moved to West Chester it seemed that the Pancake House was always packed on the weekend, like any other brunch place. Recently, it's seemed less crowded. I hope that's not a sign of business slowing down, because the food here has been consistently delicious. And as for the food...pumpkin pancakes is where it's at. If you go here, and they have them, you must order them. Listen, I don't make the rules, I just write about them on Yelp sometimes. Get. The. Pumpkin. Pancakes. They are soft, fluffy, perfectly spiced, and come with this homey dollop of fresh whipped cream on top. It's the next best thing to eating pie for breakfast. Actually, it might even be better. If it's not pumpkin season, blueberry pancakes are an acceptable alternative. Get a short stack (3 pancakes, unless you're hungry enough for the full 6) and an order of thick-cut bacon, and wash it all down with bottomless diner-style coffee. But if you don't want to take my advice (it's fine, I get it), the other wonderful thing about the Original Pancake House is that you can literally order whatever combination of breakfast foods you want, and the lovely servers will figure out how to ring it up in the most effective way for you.
