What a cool place! I had brunch here with some friends one Sunday morning and had never been inside the building. Everything inside The Osprey was luxurious. I was warmly greeted by the host and sat at the bar while waiting for the rest of my party to arrive. We dined outside, which was lovely (first come, first serve basis) and I enjoyed the East Coast Oysters with glasses of the Spicy Mango Margarita. The oysters were juicy and my drinks were refreshing and delicious. Our waiter was fun and hospitable and we had a wonderful time dining here. For brunch, The Osprey is on the pricier side but the value was absolutely there in the ambiance, service and dining. Would love to return for a lunch sometime and highly recommend to anyone visiting DUMBO. read more

This place was absolutely gorgeous and I had high hopes as it came recommended by a mutual friend because they had an unlimited wine special. I am so sad to say that the experience did not live up to my expectations. We arrived around 4:30 and were told that the restaurant didn't open until 5pm, but we were welcome to hang out at the bar, which was open for happy hour drinks and light bites. We asked about the wine special and were told that it was exclusively for hotel guests, which was odd because our friend has had it before and has never stayed at the hotel. Well okay... We made a reservation for 5pm and headed to the bar. A server brought us water, but no menus. We sat for a while, talking and catching up, and after quite some time with no menus, my partner got up to get them for us. The staff said that only one menu was available, so the group shared it. We peruse the menus for a while, the time creeps closer to 5... Around 4:50 a server comes to take our order. We let him know that our reservation was coming up shortly, so we'd just wait and order once we got to our table. That way, we didn't have to worry about carrying over wine glasses, water glasses, unfinished appetizers etc. For some reason, he seemed unsure about whether we'd still be able to order items from the happy hour menu once we were seated at our table... (Why would all the rules change just by moving a few feet away??) We went back to the hostess and she confirmed that we could still order HH from our table. The time inched past 5pm and we still hadn't been seated. We asked another server about our table and she seemed confused. Once we got to our table, the rules changed again. Our server was super cool though! We were able to order Happy Hour drinks, and oysters, but were told that we couldn't order the Bar Bites (snacks) because we weren't at the bar...plz Anyway. We did 2 baskets of fries, a cocktail each, and a dozen oysters. The oysters were NOT very fresh. Of the 4 I had, 2 were edible, 1 was a little fishy, and the last one I attempted to eat was flat out SPOILED. It was so vile I had to spit it out. Ultimately, we left and had dinner elsewhere. The Osprey is a lovely venue for dinner! I came with a large group (with reservation) and had a family style dinner with a pre-fixed menu. To start, the Osprey is part of a hotel, which is really beautifully decorated with a special ambience. The lights in the restaurant are very cute and the hotel/restaurant has real plants hanging from the ceiling and walls. There's also a lilac-y perfume smell to the hotel and restaurant, which I really enjoyed (though may not be good for those overly sensitive to scents). Their main dining room also has a lovely waterfront view of Manhattan. The music was a bit too loud, though, to have a conversation with someone comfortably across the table. In terms of the family-style dishes, I was able to try: Focaccia 5/5: this is made fresh in their kitchens! And it's made special for each day depending on what they want to flavor and adorn it with. Halibut 2/5: I didn't love the halibut itself (a bit flakey, dry, somewhat flavorless) but the crispy potatoes were layered and awesome. Pumpkin lasagnetti 4/5: The noodles were very thin and chewy and flavorful. I normally don't order pumpkin dishes, but I thought this was great! Mushroom polenta 5/5: I never enjoyed polenta but had the chance to try it here because it was family style. I was really impressed!! It was incredibly flavorful and not grainy like the way I've had it at other places. We decided to sit inside because it was going to be a little bit chilly, but there is also outdoor seating available. Our server Chris was so nice and did an amazing job and making recommendations. I had a chai latte to drink and my friend had a smoothie. Both were super tasty and made well. To eat I had the butterfly pea chia pudding, which was extremely refreshing and delicious! Probably the best chia pudding I've ever had. I also ordered a side the wagyu bacon, which was absolutely amazing. Definitely my first time trying wagyu bacon, and I'd suggest everyone to try it! My friend had the Osprey breakfast, which was a pretty big portion size. It came with eggs, your way, toast, and your choice of protein. They had avocado as a protein choice, for those who don't eat meat, which I thought was nice. Near Old Fulton Street, within Brooklyn Bridge Park, is the 1 Hotel, and the Osprey is a restaurant on the first floor. A lovely space, it includes an outdoor patio nestled within the park. Absolutely a wonderful place to enjoy brunch on a nice weekend, as we did. We ordered bellinis, lemon ricotta pancakes and the Osprey breakfast (two cage-free eggs, garlic fingerling potatoes, roasted tomato, multigrain toast, and I chose chicken apple sausage as my side). Service was quick and friendly, and the food delicious. Best of all, you're outside within the confines of a great park in Brooklyn Heights! When we entered we were told that bar was first come first serve. No one mentioned that we had to go to a specific section of the bar to order for the bartender to tell us that the entire restaurant only takes cash or room charge. We ordered some drinks and after seeing him accept card payments I asked him why he said only cash. He didn't say anything and just took my card. We then got sat on our table and the service was horrible. The waitress CHARLEY visited the table a total of 3 times. 1 for drink order 2 for food order and 3 for the bill drop off. It's nice working w/ the event coordinator Tiffany. She was friendly and efficient. She relayed our discussion including dietary restrictions to the service staff so they were accommodating and had no surprises. Everyone loved Everything I picked out from the prix fixe menu. We orders two entrees: one Hudson Valley trout dish which was PHENOMENAL and one framer's salad with salmon which was okay. Amazing pork chop and great Brussel sprouts, but everything else was meh. If you dine early, you can catch the 5-7pm happy hour ($2 oysters and $10 select glasses of wine - the Pinot Grigio was good but didn't love the rose or the red blend). The pork chop was the best. Very juicy and delicious sides of oyster mushroom and corn. The crispy Brussel sprouts were also good - I liked the slivered almonds and peppers it came with. The oysters with watermelon foam were alright but small, nothing special and probably would've been better without the foam. The steelhead trout was pretty disappointing. $42 and I was only able to eat half of it. It was over cooked, flavorless, and the sad side piece of squash was similarly flavorless. I was so disappointed, esp since the waiter recommended it. The hen of the woods was also disappointing. I usually love these mushrooms but they were sticky from a gross sauce, which made it a little off putting. The ambiance was decent. Quiet and located inside the 1 Hotel. There was plenty of open seating (on a Friday night at 6:30pm) and lots of greenery, which makes you feel like you are in the Hudson / upstate NY. Came here for my birthday dinner. The service was good, but extremely slow - it took almost half an hour for our food to arrive. The ambiance was extremely nice - very zen and industrial with a lot of greenery that made us feel far away from the bustle of the city. The oysters were extremely small, but fresh. The sea bass wrapped in banana leaf was overcooked and not something I would order again, but the scallops were amazing. They were huge, more than double the size of regular scallops - and came with an amazing blue sauce that paired percectly with every dish we had. I had wanted to get brunch here for a while but never had the chance then Pandemic hit etc. They have a valet service, parking in that area is pretty hard so we ended up just going with valet. They did not have 2 of the signature drinks listed on the menu that I had wanted. I then went off menu, since my preferences on the menu weren't available, by asking for Chocolate Martini but I guess they could not make that as per waitress. She did not give a reason. I can not recall the drink I ended up going with Strawberry Negroni? Not my first choice obviously but it was okay. My Friend and I ordered the Bison Burger w/Fries. But we started with the Baby Gem Salad. We both really enjoyed this. I would recommend. The burgers themselves were on par with what I want in my burger. Fries were good. We then basically ordered Coke because it felt like you should be drinking a Coke (not a Negroni) while eating Burger and Fries. My only thing about the Menu was it was a bit short and I feel defaulted to the Burger. They do have 1 food item per diet preference (Meat, Chicken, Fish, Non-Meat etc). Let's start with a disclaimer: This review is based off the preset Valentines Day Dinner menu & the overall experience including the 1Hotel. Finding parking was atrocious (I mean...it was Valentine's Day, I get it) & although they had a parking lot next to the restaurant, it was full, which the parking attendant literally yelled out as we attempted to drive in. When we frantically drove around to find another lot further away, I guess it was connected and most likely the same guy who initially screamed FULL"! saw us pull up again. He then "shoo'ed" us away with his hand in a dismissive manner 3x (without even saying anything) as he was talking to a driver in another car. It was so freaking RUDE I was incredibly annoyed. Who the hell shoo's away two adults just trying to f***ing park a car? I get that it's busy but relax, you're not god here. Ok, glad I got that out of my system. AnyHOO- the 1hotel itself is absolutely stunning & smelled amazing... I couldn't get enough of it! (Even the unisex bathroom downstairs was so tastefully done.) The Osprey was gently nestled around the back with a welcoming host. There was eventually some soothing live music to set the mood which was a nice bonus. The food was kind of disappointing. I was already torn when I initially read the reviews on Yelp but because the atmosphere seemed so elegant & romantic, I took the risk. At least I can say I gave it a try! We had the "baked potato" with caviar & I wish I had 10 one of those. The lobster bisque felt a bit watered down but it still had good flavor. Lamb ribs had a weird taste I couldn't quite put my finger on but neither myself or my bf liked it. Hamachi tartare was simple but good- I liked the contrast with the rice crackers. Arroz bomba was salty AF & my bf agreed but ate the whole thing anyway because he's the man. (Haha) I had the Long Island duck - great presentation but sauce was too sweet & the piece of duck was cut too thick plus the taste seemed as off as the lamb ribs. Lastly, chocolate fondant was a bit heavy but good- I'm glad it was á la mode. Macaroons were, well....macaroons lol- nothing special but a cute little heart-shaped something for V-day. Jesus, this review is like an essay. Wine wise we decided to skip a bottle but I tried "Pessimist" and it was horrid. It had such a bad after taste I actually grimaced - I couldn't even finish the sample. I don't think I've ever hated a wine that much in a restaurant. I settled on a Cabernet which was passable. I'm no wine connoisseur but I do enjoy wine very much & it was an overall no. I was thankful to our server who was very kind & patient with me during this tasting process. I also forced him to take pictures of us - poor guy. Ok, I know my review seems like this place is horrible BUT I would still recommend going! (Call me crazy) This was a specific menu & we didn't have much of a choice considering it was preset. Also, the hotel is so beautiful it's worth it. We attempted to visit the rooftop bar for a drink but there was no seating at the bar & a section was closed off for an event of sorts. We went to the actual rooftop and although the second bar was closed it was a wonderful view of the Brooklyn bridge. You know I did it for the gram...whilst ignoring my bfs eye-rolls. For breakfast I had Baked in Brooklyn French Toast, it was amazing. My wife had Osprey Breakfast witch looked unreal. For dinner we both decided to go with the Brooklyn Bison Burger. Awesome choice if you're in the mood for a burger that won't sit to heavy in your stomach. Appetizers we had Crispy Brussels Sprouts and Mushroom Frittata. Let's just say you have to try both of these for yourself because they have loads of flavor & I wouldn't even be able to express witch one I liked more as both were very good. Beautiful views, amazing produce in NYC... order multiple cocktails at once. I browsed on Yelp for the best restaurants around me and was pleased to find the Osprey, conveniently located with valet parking at the 1Hotel in Brooklyn. I had previously visited the rooftop, which is excellent in any season. When walking in, our party of four (with a reservation) was immediately seated in the lovely, plant-filled back interior area by the open kitchen. The drink menu had a large variety of sustainable choice (SC) and zero-carbon cocktails. All appetizers were fresh except for the bread, which couldn't be saved from its Sahara-like texture even with gobs of butter. I ordered the Heirloom Tomato salad with chicken, which was excellent, juicy, and crispy. An ideal mix of textures. Overall, the menu was very farm-to-table and the decor charmingly rustic. As it closes the kitchen at 11 pm on Fridays, I'd recommend a 9:30 pm reservation. I'd probably order two drinks at once in retrospect since--although the restaurant wasn't packed--drink service was relatively slow. I did have to ask the hotel front desk for direction. The restaurant had the view of the city which I loved. The decor was not over the top but simple and elegant. I felt very comfortable. We pass this restaurant often on our daily walks through the park. Its lush patio always intrigued me and it's here that I dragged my bf here for his birthday, recently. He requested close and casual so it fit his bill. It was our first dinner out in nyc since lockdown (and likely our only meal out about town this year). I do like that the hotel and restaurant take covid precautions seriously. The host greeted us at the front, took our temperatures and then let us check in at the reception area. They explained that there was a 3 step disinfecting process for tables. Once we were led to our table, (about 15 mins after our reservation) we were told to view menus by scanning QR codes- so no paper menus to touch. The tables were nicely spaced out. And of course, the setting is very pretty, a nice patio, with string lights and far away from car exhaust, pedestrians, runners and bicycles. if you're neurotic/paranoid/anxious- this restaurant is an excellent choice. As for the rest of our experience - i would say it was good to adequate. Our server was pleasant but he struggled to keep up with the tables. I'll spare the details. I know everyone is trying their hardest and these are trying times. Our pineapple jalapeno cocktails were excellent (best part of the meal) and the food (tuna tartare, burger, jerk chicken) was average to just above average. Very beautiful restaurant in Brooklyn. Gorgeous interior, hard to find though as I walked by it a couple times not knowing it was inside the 1 hotel. Service is a little slow- we were there for almost two hours and our waiter never came to check on us besides when we ordered our food and when we got the check- which is why I docked a star. The food is phenomenal- highly recommend the Brooklyn bison burger or the ube mochi pancakes. Both had huge portions and can be easily split between two people if you're not that hungry. It is a pricy restaurant, so beware. If you're in Brooklyn or staying at the 1 hotel- I would definitely recommend coming by! read more
