The Otherdoor: yum yum yum! Honestly, this is the first food I think of when I am hungry for something convenient, hot and reasonably priced around Lake Bluff or Lake Forest. Last time I was there, they had available "gluten free flan," which of course I tried and it turned out to be like their flan + chocolate cake, but with only a full portion of the flan part. Yum! Also, I've realized that while maybe the ordering process at The Otherdoor may have a similarity with Chipotle, monotonous, one-tone Chipotle food is nothing compared to the awesome, rich, fresh, herb-filled food at The Otherdoor. And I appreciate that John des Rosiers tries mixing it up with new filling offerings sometimes. And I appreciate the new flan dessert! Absolutely amazing! I highly recommend if you desire a scrumptious lunch. They are quick, the quality of the meats are fabulous and they have awesome selections that will satisfy all. You will not be disappointed. The portions are fairly large. I have tried something new every time and have yet to walk away displeased. Can be very difficult to find the location because they have no signs identifying this hidden gem but with a little venture, you should locate it with no issue. Fun place. We got take out. We ate it at the Village Green across the street during a summer concert which was nice. I had the grilled steak soft tacos with a variety of toppings and La Malinche salsa. Of their ten salsas, La Malinche is ranked as the hottest. I like spicy food. I tend to be able to handle spicier food than most. This salsa is the absolute hottest stuff I have ever, ever had. It was good but painful. It was cool to have an option like this in Lake Bluff and we all liked what we ordered. High quality food that reminded me of a Chipotle. The downside for someone like me is that I don't want to build my, in this case, burrito from scratch. New customers have never been to your restaurant and don't know what is good unless we spend ten minutes figuring it all out. But instead, we feel rushed and wind up at home with something we wish we didn't order or selected differently. And that sucks. Have a baseline item, (eg. chicken burrito), and you tell me how it should be made. If there's something I don't want, I'll tell you while you're constructing it. Amazing Mexican food worth the trip to lake bluff!! It's like nothing I've ever tasted--spices and herbs used to create a depth of flavors in their meats as well as their sauces. This is a great little hidden gem! The have great food, and fast service. I love the guacamole and chips here. There's not much seating, but I have never had a problem get a seat. The food is served in take out boxes so it's easy to take to go if don't finish. read more

Unless you're from lake bluff you can skip it. The teenagers running the joint where not all that helpful in explaining the menu. The decor is clever but lacks cozyness. My top shelve Margarita was excellent as where our sauces. I orderd a burrito bowl with the spicyest sauce on the menu wich should come with a warning lable...I'm not kidding! As a lover of spicy things i found this one to be barely edible. I paid for my folly all night long even afyet pepto bismol. Just sayin..wish someone had offered me a taste and confirmed the order. This sauce is a great party dare. Our guacamole wad deicious, as where the chips. Although we thought overall this place was nice, we will not go out of our way to return as we can get similar food at chipotle. Sorry guys. read more

So, today I actually broke free of my desk shackles and went to The Otherdoor for lunch. First off--what a great space! Airy and light--very nice. So, this time I had a bowl, chorizo and 14 other things. The counterman was kind enough to help suggest which salsas would go best on what I ordered, and he was right. The chorizo was perfect and not at all greasy--probably the best I ever had. The sautéed onions and peppers were a great touch along with the black beans. I love the paper container--right size and holds things just right. Had a nice ice tea and enjoyed every bite. I realize now that it would be a great place to stop and bring home supper every now and then too. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Ordered curbside delivery. I arrived promptly at the promises time and the directions given in my confirmation email stated that my order would be brought out when it was ready. Twenty minutes later I finally went inside and had to wait another 5 minutes. By the time I arrived home it was nearly an hour past my promised time and my order was stone cold. Ate here on 8/24/20 with adult son, his wife and our 9 year old grandson. They live a few blocks away, so we just walked over at lunch time. Two people got burritos, one got a bowl and I ordered Steak Tacos (3). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the prices represented good value. The steak burrito bowl was really good, loved the sauce and everything was great. One thing that I didn't like was the rice was not cooked all the way. It was very crunchy. The food was great.The Burritos were great , the taste of the steak when it touched my mouth was almost orgasmic. The guacamole was amazing you were able to taste the fresh ingredients in it. Unfortunately the service was pretty bad, my waiter if i recall correctly his name was Bryan , tall kid , long hair , thick frame glasses, was absolutely dreadful , extremely unfriendly and unprofessional. He kept calling me and my children non-gender neutral pronouns which really offendend me , and even after I ask politely to stop referring to me as "bro or dude" he continued. This waiter really killed my experience. I'll admit it.. I'm a sucker for the hipster "good food fast" places, and the other door absolutely delivers. From the quirky atmosphere, to the delicious and unique craft food, it seems you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Their large selection of unique sauces and meat options keeps me coming back to try something new. For the fellow margarita lovers, give the house marg a try.. you'll thank me. Trying to come up with flaws is difficult, but I suppose the only thing I can say is it would be nice if they had a fountain drink option, but that's being picky. Went there near closing time and they barely have anything left. Out of the many sauces, there's only one left. The meat is salty, even the brown rice is salty! Portion is an okay size but not worth the money. Even the horchata doesnt seem as thick as when I had it last year, also tasted a little sour. Most likely a change in management. Went in to get chicken tacos and they were delicious! The employees were so welcoming beginning with Jessica. As I walked in through the doors she greeted me with a hello and a wonderful smile. And once I got to the salsas Alex kindly waited for me to finish a phone call I received as I was ordering. I finally get to the cashier, Jesus and he was extraordinary. He asked me how my day was and I told him I was in a rush and he quickly charged me and bagged my meal, with a smile and a " thank you. They have a wide selection of proteins, toppings and 10 different sauces/salsa options to choose from that vary it levels of heat. They food never lets you down and the staff are always so friendly.
