After many many fantastic meals with friends and relatives over the years my husband passed away and I moved to Scottsdale AZ. Still the best food ever including restaurants in France Germany and Czech Republic and Canada where we had wonderful cuisine. The packing House is a fine dining, old supper club atmosphere that many people love! It has been a staple in Milwaukee for many many years. Their food is nothing. Short of amazing as is their service. Having a drink at the bar before you eat. Your dinner is almost a must, while you wait for your table. I remember being a little girl and my mother, not being able to afford to take us there, so when I became an adult and I could afford to take myself there, it was a wonderful feeling like I had made it because I could eat at the packing House. The food is terrific all the way through. You start with your classic relish dish of pickles, olives, carrots and a small loaf of doughy yummy bread. We enjoyed the CHEESE BROCCOLI SOUP (4/5) as our starter. Standard, but a solid soup. I chose the GARLIC STUFFED FILET (5/5) and it was one of the most tender, juiciest steaks I've ever had. I'm not a big fan of mustard, but the Dijon mustard sauce was holy smokes good. Bite after bite I was so impressed and felt like the food shouldn't be this good for this restaurant! We also had the BEEF WELLINGTON (5/5) and was all the rave. We had wonderful and pleasant customer service. I consider The Packing House another member of the Supper Club category. They are known for their steaks and fish fry. Their fish fry is so popular, they have a drive thru window set up for customers to pickup their fish fries. The drive thru window only accepts cash, by the way, and I think the window is open from 3:00-9:00.The restaurant accepts cards inside. I tried the fish fry tonight. They have several options for you to choose from, such as cod, perch, baked cod, or a combo. You can choose from fries or homemade potato pancakes and the fish fry includes housemade cole slaw, rye bread and a cup of soup. I chose the Traditional cod fry for $11.95 with potato pancakes. I really liked the hand-breaded cod fillets. I didn't have to use the tarter sauce, but I did try the sauce and it was also tasty, a bit on the sweet side. The potato pancakes were of a similar texture as homemade hash brown patties. I was good with that, but I was not happy with the flavor. They lacked seasoning. Adding salt and pepper or using the side of apple sauce didn't really help. It's shame because the fish and cole slaw were very good, but I need equally good potato pancakes for the fish fry dinner to make my "favorites list." The clam chowder was also very good. Great thick base. Hearty from the contents and savory. I've dined here a few times over the years, and enjoyed some pretty good and inexpensive steak dinners. Years ago, they ran a steak and lobster tail special on Tuesday nights for $25, but I don't see it advertised anymore. The 6 oz filet mignon dinner is only $19.95. If you want a good meal without over paying for it, The Packing House is not a bad option. By the way, they also have live music Wednesday through Saturday nights. read more

Great selections on the menu. Something for everyone! We also had two of their signature appetizers- onion rings and the water chestnuts wrap in bacon. Our waitress and the supporting staff were always checking in with us or clearing the table. My friends came in from Chicago and wanted to go to a supper club restaurant and The Packing House was the perfect pick for the night. Our time together was great because we were there for hours eating and drinking. If you are coming into the Milwaukee area or live in Milwaukee make it a point to support local businesses. We started the night with 7:15 reservations for a party of 10 on a Tuesday which probably wasn't necessary. I could see this place being packed at prime dinner time or on the weekends. Our server (personal shout out to Robert) was fantastic! He was friendly, personable but without being overbearing. He was of great service to making the dinner special for the birthday guest. Even if you get some appetizer as an entree, you'll likely be stuffed by the time the main course comes out! The bread was piping warm and so delicious-more addicting than Olive Garden breadsticks. I didn't tempt myself to question if this place had "endless bread." The mashed potatoes (with the gravy-it's not heavy, I promise) seemed average but I was entirely fixated on eating them all. The Filet Mignon had a nice sear, cooked medium (just what I wanted) and great flavor. 6oz portion was plenty! Initially, I was disappointed with the sear on the scallops, thinking it was going to be over chewy, but it was my favorite part of the meal. Totally worth the $9 a la carte. I came here with my family for dinner, and we enjoyed the experience. There was live jazz music in the cocktail lounge, where we first sat down and each had an old fashioned. It looked like they had a large selection of whiskeys and bourbons at the bar. My husband and I shared the baked brie appetizer, and it was delectable. They had homemade crackers as well as a sliced apple to eat with the brie, and the brie had sweet pecans on top and some sort of hot cranberry sauce on the side. We then moved to the dining room, where they served our table bread and veggies first. Our meals came with the option of soup or salad. I chose the salad with their house dressing. I ordered the roasted duck for my main course, and it came with wild rice, seasoned stuffing, and greens on the side. The servings were so plentiful that I couldn't come close to finishing my meal. The meal overall was delicious. Our server was very friendly. Each main course averaged around $25-30, and cocktails were around $12. We stopped in for a cocktail and snack early New Year's Eve. We have been there many times. My husband and I ordered buttermilk deep fried eggplant and two bourbons on the rocks. The rock glass was half the size of their usual rocks glass and full of giant ice cubes. This is very unusual for the Packing House. The bigger shock came with the bill. They charged $20.00 a drink, when just a few days ago they used their regular rocks glass and free poured at the price of $9. 00. Shame on the management to take advantage of a captive audience. The Packing House is a long established supper club and you know I like supper clubs. I love the style, the ambiance and the food style. It's been quite awhile since I had been to eat at the Packing House. I've had plenty of fish fries to go but that's a horse of a different color. Had the opportunity to enjoy an evening out with family and took that opportunity to try their prime rib special. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor. I find prime rib can be hit or miss. Sometimes bland and sometimes mostly fat. This was neither. Just the right amount of fat and full of flavor. We really enjoyed the evening. Reminds me of a larger supper club. There is a dinning area and a bar dinning area. My boyfriend and I went at 3:00pm, and were sat right away being the only ones there. Around 3:30pm, three more couples came in. Great atmosphere with professional staff. Food was brought to us in a timely manner. Waitress consecutively refilled our waters and tended to us. We both had the Traditional Fish Fry (~$12). The fried cod was pretty good. Great taste and consistency. It came with clam chowder, coleslaw, and potato pancakes/applesauce or fries. It was all pretty good. We left a to-go box that was enough for another meal. Great place to splurge at. Known for their steaks. Out of my way, so I probably will not return unless in the area. Decent steakhouse. The exterior is very unassuming. Building looks average and the parking lot has a lot of potholes. Then you walk inside and it's a stark contrast. The dining area is swanky and neat. The food is on par with Wisconsin supper clubs. The presentation wasn't as good as I had anticipated. Rough cut veggies thrown in a dish is the "relish tray." The bread was tasty though. My date and I both ordered the filet mignon and found it bland. I'm not a condiment person but found myself dipping bites in the au jus (comes in a cup with the steak). I will say it was very tender and had a great color to it but lacked flavor. The service was good. They boxed up our appetizers right away and kept our water glasses full. I personally wouldn't return since I find Carnevor superior in steak BUT would recommend eating here if you're looking for decent steak for slightly less. read more

I recently placed a review for the Packing House Resturant on a not so good experience the four of has had on February 10, 2023. I was contacted by the Chris Wiken regarding our dining experience. Chris was more than fair and requested that we give it another try. Chris also stated some reasons why we possibly experienced what we experineced that evening asking for a second chance. After going back and forth a few emails I realized I may have been a bit pre mature of the review I placed on Trip Advisor. The biggest thing in my mind of Chris is that he took the time to explain some things and made the our group whole. Chris is definitly more than fair on the bad dining experience we had and what more can a person ask for. Went last night for dinner with family and friends. We had a reservation being we drove from Chicago to eat their prime rib and wanted to make sure they saved us prime rib. My hubby claims this is the best he ever had and he was right! It comes in a 12oz and 16oz size. We shared the 16oz and it was just enough for us! The prime rib was very tender! You could cut it with a fork! The taste was delicious! It came with a salad or soup and choice of potato. For the $10 sharing we each got our own. I had the salad with their house made poppy seed dressing and mashed potatoes. Both were scrumptious! Service was attentive and friendly! read more

I had not been here in years and was expecting it to have not changed and honestly to be a bit run down, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it had not changed much but they have kept it up very well inside. So definitely don't judge it from the outside like maybe I had been:) The front bar/lounge has a swanky, Art Deco feel with great art work of Milwaukee's iconic skyline on the walls. The main dining room has a cozy feel to it great for groups or a intimate dinner for two. Of course they have a large menu that has something for everyone. We come here every time we're in town. 7 of us dined here two nights ago. 5 of us got the filet. All 5 were not done correctly. The chef was way off. For example, I ordered mine medium rare. It came medium well to well done. Not even close. The manager, and waitress also, did offer to make us new ones. We didn't want to make them go to all that trouble.
