My wife and I went to a friend's birthday party at The Packing House this past Friday. The last time I was here was about a decade ago. This restaurant has a unique charm about it, a bigger place than I remember playing Christmas and Frank Sinatra music throughout. Anyway, let's get to the food. I ordered a 16 oz boneless ribeye medium rare, rice pilaf along with a clam chowder. The steak was cooked to perfection, it could have used some more seasoning The rice pilaf was terrible, I sent that back and they gave me some green beans with no seasoning on them, but they were edible. The clam chowder was good with some nice chunks of clams in the soup. My wife got the Caesar salad with salmon. She said it was good, but the salmon was a bit dry. Overall, a decent meal with a couple of hiccups. Does the place rank higher than other steakhouse I've been to, like Mr. B's or The Harbor House, no, but The Packing House is certainly more of a bargain than those places. read more

Another fantastic evening at the Packing House! We decided to go for a Friday night fish fry. I absolutely love the ambience of this restaurant. They had live music in the bar. We had 6 PM reservation. We sat at a lovely table in the main dining room and had a fantastic server named Bob. I ordered the baked cod with a side of vegetables and it was absolutely fantastic! My friend ordered the brew town tempura shrimp with french fries and absolutely loved it. I got an extra dirty martini which was prepared perfectly. And for dessert we shared a piece of banana cream pie which I highly recommend! If you have not been or it has been a while since you've been out to a restaurant I would definitely recommend visiting the Packing House because you are guaranteed it to have an excellent dinner and an amazing experience! read more

Many, many thanks to all The Packing House staff members who provided this year's outstanding Thanksgiving dinners, which were well worth the half-hour wait in the drive-thru line. Every item--from turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, to cranberry sauce--was flavorful and prepared to perfection. I had take-out from here, they prob deserve about 3.5 stars. I'd get take out from here again, as it was a fine meal. The service was friendly- they made sure I had all utensils to eat in my hotel. I enjoyed my garlic stuffed steak with a side of broccoli. They cooked it right and it was nice having the extra zip of garlic. The Caesar salad wasn't spectacular, some of my lettuce was a little brown. While waiting for food, I wandered around. The place is definitely dated and not a fancy steakhouse. Had a wonderful lunch with family. As it was a Friday, we opted for their fish fry. Hot bowl of clam chowder was included with the meal. Great salted rye bread and soft butter arrived with the soup. Fish was hand breaded. Three pieces of fish were flaky and succulent. Potato pancakes or fries were choices. Cole slaw was a combination of creamy and vinegar. Actually took home 4 pieces of fish as we couldn't eat it all! Our server was kind enough to include more Cole slaw and tartar sauce. Made for good fish tacos the next day. Glass of reisling was very good. Wish I had gotten the name or label. Always "white glove" service. A must if in the area. read more

Stopped back in on a weekday to try some other entrees on the menu. Sat in the bar area where they had some live jazz music playing which was really delightful. I really love the service at this restaurant. Particularly how they swap out silverware after each course giving you the proper utensils as needed. Drinks are delicious here and always showed up to the table in a timely fashion. Was pretty disappointed with the food on this visit particularly the lobster tails. Simply put they were awful and unedible. I immediately called the server over and voiced my displeasure about my meal. The server was great and very apologetic about my displeasure. She immediately sent the manager over who apologized bought me a steak and also a round of drinks for the table. Although the food wasn't up to my expectations the service and management were excellent for this reason alone I will probably come back to try another meal at this restaurant. read more

Drive thru Friday Fish Fry!!! Need I say more??! The drive thru line moves super fast, food is consistent. Fish is fresh, clam chowder is homemade and yummy. My only complaint is the portion sizes fluctuate. Some Fridays the boxes are LOADED with 3 pcs of fish, lots of fries and bread- other times it's only 2 pcs of fish, maybe a handful of fries, and not so fresh bread. read more

Received a gift card to Packing House. Took about 10 months to get there, but wow, worth the wait. Beautiful live music upon arrival. Greeted and seated promptly at our reservation time, all with a filled to capacity crowd. Things started great with the most professional and helpful busser - literally said something like, hey it's super busy tonight, so if you need anything just flag me down i can help! So nice! The server, same thing. I'm partially writing this review, because we were just so taken aback by the extraordinary service. But, the food was equally as great. Had eggplant for appetizer and filets for dinner, and the daily made banana cream pie for dessert. Two great cocktails as well. Love the vibe, love the food and wowed by the service. And, can't beat the super easy parking lot parking. Highly recommend you go there. read more

This is a classic supper club. If you want the best fish fry experience, you will want to check this out. But if you were going through the drive-through, prepare for a long wait, not because the staff isn't working hard, but because there are hundreds of cars in the drive-through at any one time. Been wanting to go here for a long time and finally got the opportunity to go. We were very disappointed with the food. We arrived for our 530pm reservation on a Friday. Ambiance was good I guess. Our entries were over cooked and not very warm. Duck was over cooked, the steak was over cooked as to almost burnt. The Veal Oscar was just barely warm. One person ordered potatoes wedges ( I witnessed) and she got mashed.. the waitress insisted she ordered mashed but finally brought out wedges. I ordered the scallops, which came with a salad, asparagus spears, and rice pilaf ($43). The scallops tasted like ammonia smells, the asparagus was very stringy, and the pilaf was bland and blaa. The waitress was nice, but the only thing that I received was an apology and to be able to order something different or try ordering the scallops again. Is it the perfectly crisp tastey fries.. or the slaw.. seasoned deliciously with horse radish.. or the golden brown fried Cod.. dipped in that delightful tarter sauce.. And the winner is...... We always enjoy our food at The Packing House. What has prompted my review today is our server, Ferrance. What a joy it was to have him wait on us last night! Ferrance not only did a great job answering questions, checking on us appropriately and making sure we had what we needed, but exceeded expectations with suggestions and his overall demeanor. He brought us a little bacon to have with our potato soup and it elevated it. He suggested dipping our bread in the sauce from the water chestnuts - yum! Ferrance was friendly and funny and we truly enjoyed our experience more because of him. A note on the bacon wrapped water chestnuts...they're always so good we end up eating the sauce with our spoons. Soooo gooood. read more

Went here for the first time a couple weeks ago. ALMOST everything was great. I was excited to see the Beef Wellington on the menu and ordered it. I was very disappointed to see it was not fully wrapped. It was basically a filet with the mushroom paste and pastry draped on top. What a bummer - especially for the price. I thought the whole point of a Wellington was to be fully wrapped in pastry? I would go back again but I definitely would not get the Wellington - I honestly don't think they should even call it a Wellington because it really isn't. The place was packed (sorry, had to)) but management kindly said she would try and get us a seat. We sat at the bar and had a great time listening to live music (with legend keyboard player). Coworker had the salmon and I had the pork chop. Both outstanding. Crab mushroom app was great. Heavy pours at the bar. Given this place's reputation, I was expecting better. I made a reservation, so we didn't have to wait. We had a seat in the dining area, which was crowded and maybe-not-quite socially distanced. We ordered the crab-mushroom appetizer ($13.99), which tasted about the same as something frozen from Trader Joe's. Drinks were fine, but slow to arrive. In fact, everything was slow to arrive. We had the traditional (cod - $16.95) and the combo (cod and perch - $18.95) fish fries. They were fine. Portions were generous, the food was hot. I certainly wouldn't call it "Milwaukee's Best" as they do. It was just fine. Our waitress seemed tired and uninterested. Overall, this place felt tired and old and way overpriced. read more

Pros: the bartender, the support staff, met cool people at the bar and food. Cons: Hostess, manager and server. By far the WORST service for a nice place like this. Went to The Packing House last night to celebrate an anniversary which I let them know when we called to make the reservation and when we sat at the table. You would think, hey what can we do to make it a little more special? We were told, let see if I have a table for you when we had a 6:30 reservation, I counted 8 tables from the hostess station to our table. Our server came and you could tell she did not want to help us. Best part was that she took my menu before I ordered. The support staff came to our table double if not triple the amount of our server. The best, table was sat next to us about 5-10 minutes after we sat down. They got more attention and their food before we did. Also our server towards the end of the meal I counted visited every table except for ours. We had to ask another server for our waitress because we were finished for a good amount of time and weren't notice. Let's just say that I had my credit card ready for when the bill came because I could bet that I wouldn't see our server for another 10-15 minutes. I just want to be done and get the hell out of there. Finally the manager or hostess would walk around and ask tables how their meal was. Did they visit our table? nope! So my advice, be a regular or the service will be horrible. read more
