It's definitely daring to be opening up a new business, let alone a food establishment in the middle of a pandemic that's adversely affecting the restaurant business but here we are. It popped up on my radar a couple weeks ago as a new business and the menu looked good so we popped on over for Sunday dinner. We were seated outside and luckily there was a roof over our head because man did it start to thunderstorm hard. Still the place was doing plenty of curbside pickup business, and there were people seated indoor at the bar and some sat outside with us. Seemed to be enough space between tables. I ordered the summer sparkler and was dissapointed. The taste did not remotely pop and I told my server Doug as much. He suggested it would taste better with Sprite in it and he got me another one and he was right it was absolutely delicious. My bf and I shared the ahi tuna 'nachos' (the nacho chips were fried wonton triangles). It was delicious but.. not too much in portion. However the entrees were heaping big. I got the steak frites and it was a mound of food. My bf got the Hen of the Woods salad which is a maitake mushroom on a bed of spinach, red pepper, candied pecans and a yummy vinaigrette. I liked my entree, but dare I say for the first time I would have picked the entree salad over it. I definitely had enough of my own dish leftover for lunch next day. Bit of a complaint as my dish was meant to have scallion and cotija cheese and.. there was none that I could find. You can see from the picture yourself. Service was great and attentive. The one thing I would suggest is maybe the decor could be spruced up a little. Outdoor seating does not mean it can't be made more ambient and inviting. This is my second time going to the restaurant and they always knock it out of the park. I have had no troubles with this restaurant whatsoever; the staff is pleasant and educated, service is quick and on time, the waiters are very attentive (shoutout to Adam!!), and the food is always bomb. Their portions are absolutely huge so you can order one entrée and that will definitely fill you up. The drinks are always super delicious and everything is extremely affordable. It is great to go by yourself or with a small group of people. I went here on a Saturday night and was able to get a table no wait time. I enjoyed this place. Live music. Great service. Unique menu and drinks. My food was really good (Korean BBQ). I had the mango beer, also great. My guests: Son 1 - said French dip good but salty. Hubby said catfish po' boy was too salty to finish eating. This from a man that adds salt to everything! Son 2 - Nashville Hot Chicken didn't have any seasoning; 'they just put hot sauce on fried chicken'. So, why 4 stars? Because the vibe was great and I enjoyed my meal. I'm excited a new place has opened up in Columbia! In the middle of a pandemic, no less! The Periodic Table is very recently opened and as my husband and I are not comfortable dining in-restaurant at this time, we ordered delivery so take that into account when reading this review. It's smart that they're offering this off the bat given the current circumstances. We ordered: the chorizo donuts, a side of roasted carrots, the steak frites and the pork belly entree. The carrots were very good! Nice and charred but a little sweet. The chorizo donuts were good but could have used more chorizo. The description of my entree said that they used short rib for their steak frites, which I was excited by since I don't care for the cut that is traditionally used. The description also included rosemary fries and Hollandaise sauce. The short rib was very tender, but lacking some flavor and I didn't taste any rosemary on the fries. The hollandaise was also bland and watery, but as I mentioned before, we got this delivered. All-in-all, they have potential. I look forward to visiting when things are a little more normal and we can experience their food fully. I will update again then. read more

It was good, but not great. We went for light dinner/happy hour and got a variety of appetizers. Can't comment on the mains/entrees. Portions were pretty large for apps, definitely shareable. We had the margaritas which were good. Cute glasses. Ranking from most liked to least: 1. Moroccan tacos - great harissa flavor, chicken cooked well, the goat cheese aioli was delicious-tangy flavor that balanced out the chicken. Maybe too many chips? Had a solid pile of chicken-less chips at the end. 2. Bao Bun sliders - Pork was crispy, well cooked, flavorful. Pickled cabbage nice and light. Plum sauce very tasty. Baos were maybe a touch dry/less fluffy than I've had at other places. 3. Blistered shishito - interesting dish, husband liked it, LOTS of peppers. 4. Tuna Poke - tasty chips, big chunks of tuna. I thought the flavors were a little overpowered by the hoisin sauce. Don't get me wrong, I love me some hoisin, but I couldn't taste much else. 5.Spring leek soup - loved the flavor but was really salty for me. The sweet bacon was a good compliment. Great parking, very accessible. Lots of seating (dining area, bar, outdoor with heaters). Our waitress was very nice and helpful. Food wait times were a little long, but might have been short-staffed so understandable. read more

4 stars for an average between 5 stars for service and 3 for food. I got the roasted Brussels sprouts appetizer and was surprised at how soggy they were. Tasted more like boiled rather than roasted. I also got the soup of the day which was chicken corn chowder. I'm a big fan of black pepper, but the black pepper really overpowered the soup. My friend got the catfish sandwich. While I don't eat seafood, I will say the fries were delicious. Maybe I ordered the wrong stuff? The service was absolutely incredible though. I came for happy hour and sat in the bar area. This spot is one of my faves for interesting, creative cocktails and a quick bite in the middle of the day. The servers and hostess have always been friendly and Lance, the owner, is personable and attentive. He makes it a point to greet guests and request feedback, ensuring a pleasant experience :-) Transition cocktail - a new addition. Wasnt expecting this whiskey drink to be light, refreshing and carbonated, but it is! The apple cider notes make it a really nice transition-into-fall drink. A Dissertation cocktail - always a winner. Boozy and delicious. I'm tipsy as I type this (don't judge me, I live around the corner...kinda) Creole shrimp and grits - i appreciate the attempt, however, the grits seemed undercooked. The shrimp, though big juicy, lacked flavor and the okra just didnt seem to add anything interesting. The saving grace of this dish was the sauce - delicious and savory. Devils food cheesecake - O.M.G. ...O.M.G.... Oh my gawwwwd. What sinister contract did they sign with the devil to conspire to destroy my waistline with this??? It is A-Mazing and I hate them for it. It is creamy, rich, decadent and enough to make me wanna slap my momma...well...shove her just a lil. First time here on Wed., Dec. 29, 2021. My daughter was up from Florida, heading to visit son-in-laws family in Pennsylvania, so on the way, we met here for lunch. Trying to find a dog friendly place and glad we went here! They had beef fajita flat bread for appetizer and loved it. She also ordered a bowl of soup; potato leek saying it was very good. Then they ordered another flatbread, a chicken one they did not like as much as the first tho. I had a glass of pinot noir, a cesar's salad with grilled salmon and it was so good! Do not recommend this place. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner for our anniversary and the service was very slow and awful. The food was ok, my grilled cheese was rock hard though. My boyfriends meal was soggy. Our waiter neglected us and took 15 minutes to get us a check after a 45 minute wait for food. The table in front of us complained about the slow service and had to reach out to the hostess about why their food was taking so long and turns out their food was never even put in as an order, and the table behind us ordered a vegetarian salad and they brought out a salad with shrimp and when he told the staff that it was supposed to be vegetarian, the staff member shrugged his shoulders, put it on the table and walked away. I did the last restaurant week fiasco, soooo many issues, chili that could punch out of a paper bag. Service was severely lacking in a near empty restaurant, I watched my cidre sitting on the bar for 20 minutes , wondering if it was self serve. Restaurant week was supposed to lure potential customers, not bring under seasoned food and when I asked for hot sauce, I got watered down buffalo sauce!!! Had a taste for a burger and in looking across Yelp reviews in the area a found the Periodic Table. I have driven by and seen the sign but never stopped in. First impression from the outside is that it's a small unassuming restaurant on the bottom floor of a office building. When you walk in you will notice it's much larger than it appears. I came on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. After being greeted by a hostess I was seated. They have some interesting cocktails. I noticed they had a smoked old fashioned that I have been wanting to try since seeing it online. I must admit the experience of seeing the smoking drink was well worth it. As I mentioned before I was craving a burger so that's why I ordered. I opted to get the double patty since I thought they would be pretty thin. To my surprise they were actually pretty think. In hind sight I would have gotten the single patty since I was only able to finish off half of my burger. The fries are the thin cut show lace fries. Crispy not not really my thing. When I return I would probably get a different side. Perhaps a salad. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Definitely great service for my entire time there. When she brought out the check i noticed I QR code so I could to contactless payment. I had a great time and would recommend it if you like American pub fare. Last night we went to The Periodic Table - Columbia for a reunion with friends and to hear a friend's band. Although the music and company were great we didn't have the greatest experience. Service was absolutely horrible! Food came out cold. A friend asked for a beer recommendation and our server just pointed to the menu. We got there at 7pm and left at midnight we had three drinks because our server was horrible. At one point I had to walk up to the bar and get our drinks because they sat on the bar for 20mins. I had to go find out server to place an order. We watched him sit down with other patrons. He never came to check on us or to take an order we had to flag him down. We were very disappointed and some of our friends had never been here before not sure if they'll return. read more

The chicken bowl was not very good, chicken was very tough and overall just tasted like a teriyaki bowl. Kid's burger was ok, but was overdone and dry. Bottom line: Great beer selection, appetizers, and soups! Would be 4+ star happy hour or lunch place! Dinner entree options were limited and French dip variation disappointing. Good service, so-so atmosphere in dining area. We were impressed by the offerings of quality and seasonally appropriate (rotating) local craft beer, such as those from Bell's, Atlas, Pherm, Crooked Crab, etc. We also loved the Korean Nachos (a hearty sized app for sharing) and the chicken corn chowder. For entrees, they had a NY strip, panko salmon, shepherds pie, a vegan option (cauliflower and elote corn), fish and chips, and a French "P" Dip. We struggled with these entree options, really wanting something with pasta or a carb. We eventually ordered the French P Dip--which instead of steak had pastrami. We initially missed the "P" in the name indicating that the sandwich was not a traditional French Dip. The substitution didn't taste quite right - we wished that PT offered a traditional French dip instead (they do have a cheesesteak on their lunch menu that has shaved ribeye - don't know why they wouldn't just do the same for the French dip). Service was what you'd expect for eating out. Would have liked a water refill during dinner and some more assistance with menu, given our first experience with the restaurant. (Note: The website menu is hard to navigate but is in part Bc it rotates often to be seasonally adjusted, as a farm to table place. The built in menu option on the Google Maps page is not the current offerings.) Atmosphere was so-so. The restaurant is a big space with tables and wooden chairs (no booth seating). We made a reservation but when arrived they told us that our table wasn't ready and we had to wait nearly 20 min. Then the food malarkey happened. I ordered fish and chips. I am not even going to say it was bad it the fish was so charred that it was dissolved in a dark brown char. When I called them the waitress had to call someone that someone said they need to look into it in the kitchen. Look into it what really I don't know. Meanwhile there is not a single word apology in sight, mind you. So nearly 10 minutes later the "verdict" from the kitchen was it is burned would I like another one? No I bloody don't. Wait it gets better, I had to ask them to take it off of our bill. The only reason I gave 2 stars because some sort of manager called me day after and offered a coupon of some sorts and did apologize for the whole fiasco. There are no amount of discount coupons can make me go back there. I am truly disappointed. And amazed by the online hype about this place. read more

It was 3 for brunch. We got to try one of the weekly experiments - a vegetable flatbread. It was very light and fresh. That went with the roasted wild mushrooms which had a nice slow spicy kick that kept on kicking though perhaps a touch too sweet. There was also some poke and wonton chips which were nice and mild in flavor and so nothing to object to. The waffle sandwich looked pretty tasty, too, and there was no shortage of things to share about it. Finally there was a pastrami French dip that came with broccolini and brown gravy. Who knew? Sounds odd - tasted good. The two HH drinks were fun, too. The Save the Bees was light and refreshing and the Rebus Bramble was flavorful and might have needed two to make a real decision ;-) A nice vibe and there will be more brunches. read more

Came to this quaint spot in Columbia on a Sunday afternoon with a friend, curious to try out their menu. The vibe inside was very homey, not too many people and it seemed like there were a lot of frequent customers, making the environment warm/friendly. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my friend had the fish and chips with a Caesar salad. I will say that the food is a little underwhelming. I liked my chicken sandwich but I didn't love it. My friend who had the fish and chips requested for Old Bay in order to help with the flavor. I did appreciate that they had an all day happy hour and I love how friendly the staff was. I would go again for the drinks which were good and get some appetizers because their fries are amazing. Entree wise, I would have to give their menu another try to see if there was anything else I would like. read more

Nice Brioche roll, just the right amount of heat ( I'm not a fan of super hot so you could prob spice it up at the table or ask if you like it really spicy ) and generous portion. I wouldn't come here for the food. The drinks were decent. We started with the osso bucoe wings that had gone bad. They were rancid. I got the chili which was okay, but really had no flavor. I also got the elote salad that didn't taste anything like an elote. It should definitely be renamed as the only thing reminiscent of the elote was the corn. We decided to dine here and with a background in chemistry I was really interested to see how the name "the periodic table" flows with the menu and how they keep the chemistry involved but I was disappointed and that is why I took off one star. I was expecting some chemistry names in the menu or beaker or Erlenmeyer flask for water or alcohol. Other than that I think really liked it. Ample space to park and very safe area. The food was also very good and they day we went kids eat free. I didn't know that and it was a surprise considering the inflated market, having kids dinner for free is amazing! So kudos to the manager and team. I loved the wings with mango habanero sauce, the chicken was nice and juicy. I think the food was really nice. Service is s good, given the challenges the service industry is facing with COVID and the economy. Decent atmosphere, though a little loud. Have been twice and each time left underwhelmed. Last time I got sick after eating their chicken salad, which was so mayonnaise heavy it looks more like cottage cheese. Ate a few bites and didn't have time to request a new order and service was stretched. (Again, they did their best and I have no complaints there.) This is for sure a hidden gem. From the service to the food, my experience here was very pleasant. Came here on a Thursday afternoon, and the place was pretty much empty. We got seated right away and served within a 15 minutes after we ordered. The Korean nachos are a must try ! the main ingredients are beef brisket, coleslaw, pickled onions, and horse radish aioli sauce. They use wonton chips instead of nachos which gave it a perfect crunch. The only thing I would change is the beef. It came cubed but it would've been better shredded imo. Also ordered the shrimp salad sammie with the street corn as my side. This also was very yummy. I came here to meet some of my family for my birthday lunch. I ordered the Crab-cake Blt with fries. Ok it was so meaty and it was served on a Brioche Bun which was toasted perfectly! It was so good! Let me start out with a few things: 1. I'm not from the area 2. We didn't eat in the actual restaurant but did a takeout order on the way to our final destination. Let me start out by saying that the service was impeccable. The hostess was kind and bubbly - happy to give recommendations as newcomers. The restaurant was well populated even during the time of COVID. From start to finish it took about 30 minutes from the time we placed our order in the restaurant to the time it got into our hands. My husband ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken with a side of street corn. He described as dry and less spicy than a Chick-Fil-A sandwich. Lots of pickles though. The portion size was huge. The Street Corn had a mild, tangy tomato flavor which he described as the most enjoyable part of the meal. I ordered the Table Burger, which is described as a double stack with fig and stout jam topped with Muenster cheese. There are no gluten free bread options so I got bunless with a side salad. I love a good burger - I like juicy patties with well thought out flavor combos. The burgers were very well done. The burger was dry unfortunately - the fig and stout jam didn't bring enough flavor to the table. Toward the middle of eating the burger I wished that I had some sort of fat or liquid to moisten the burger. My gut says that this place is probably great for drinks (hence the name) and a paired meal to go with your meal. Being a sailor of the high seas, I prefer a tavern where me and my mateys can go get a pinch of good quality ale, speak of our travels, and hear cussing the likes of which would make black beard blush. Upon arrival, I was met by such a fair lass, my eyes were bewildered.
