And it was on the bigger portion side too. Came with tasty mash potatoes. Chicken parm-brother said it was delicious, and it was huge. It would be impressive to finish it in one sitting unless you came into the cafe with a mission. He got a side of sauce that we split (very good idea, it's a big piece that demands an equal amount of sauce) Chicken and eggplant parm mix-I love this combo. It's the best of both worlds, and the pleasant mixing them so well. One layer chicken, one layer battered eggplant. Oh and the cheesy goodness never lets you down! I've been going to Pleasant Cafe for pizza 50 yrs. Never had a problem until this week. My friend and I went to have dinner, we ordered and she was served her dinner in a timely manner. After 35 minutes of waiting for my pizza, I tried to complain to the manager (I think her name was Jean). WOW! I have never met a nastier person in the restaurant business. When I told her I'd been waiting so long she said: "What do you want me to do, go in the kitchen and cook?" This woman does not belong in a customer facing position or in the hospitality business at all. I never heard her say "I'm sorry" or offer to discount the bill or anything. we keep driving by so we decided that we give this place a try. it was a huge place and we enjoy diner/café atmosphere. unfortunately we werent too please with the food... we got the Buffalo wings, they were a bit overcooked and really crispy so we couldn't taste the meat given that the wings were small to begin with. We shouldn't complain about the prime rib given that it was a thick piece but that thickness along with medium didn't go along, so it tasted dry. if we do go back there and get prime rib, we would probably go with medium rare. the spaghetti wasn't al dente which we love! read more

This is the best place in the city for pizza I get two three of them pizza a week great dough makes a great crust the sauce is perfect nor too sweet not that acidic stuff that gives you heart burn it perfectly. My favorite is meatball sausage and onion. , lot of other stuff besides pizza on. The menu it's all fantastic. I take my girl friend and her brats there a couple of two tree times a month. Love the pizza and Veal Parm. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We order about once a week, we ask for extra sauce and crisp and without fail, the pizza is cooked as we asked. The veal is a wow. We order with angle hair pasta. There is more than enough pasta for a good lunch of leftovers the next day. The veal is so tasty, there are never leftovers. Great Spot Pleasant Cafe is very pleasant. It feels like stepping back to a simpler time, with friendly waitstaff, good food and great prices. We like their pizzas but everything we've had here is good. Although service can be borderline ( but most of the time it's very good ), and the waitresses can be a little rough around the edges, it's worth it for some of the best "comfort food" in the area. Considered by some of the locals to be the best pizza in town, if you like thin crust pizza, you can't go wrong. This is a no-frills, not fancy restaurant. Been going to the Pleasant for a long time. Last night we went for dinner and had the Salmon and Swordfish specials. The food and service was excellent and the price was right (37.00 bucks for both). Great value old local diner. Nachos were great, burger wasn't good, pizza is oily and crust was a bit doughy for us. Preferred I love Nick's down the road. Waitress knew a single beer on tap and wasn't happy about cocktail orders (despite having the largest cocktail menu of anywhere I've seen). Certainly some homey family run charm though. Went for the first time with my family and thought it was great. Definitely an old school, wood paneled kind of place with younger and older patrons. Had veal parm w a side of ravioli, a cheeseburger and a cheese pizza - all were good and very reasonably priced. Pizza was huge and delicious. Waitress was very friendly. Local place in Roslindale, traditional has been around over 80 years! Food was pretty good we ordered The jalapeño poppers, chicken broccoli ziti, fried clams and some pizzas. The clams were really delicious and fresh and the pizza was great too. If you're looking for a place that feels "homey" then head here. During our dating days in the late 90's, this was a weekly go to. Now living over an hour away, we don't get to visit except for occasionally. This past Monday evening we arrived to treat ourselves after an appointment in town and were quite disappointed. We had stuffed mushrooms, which in the past were outstanding and were just okay. We both ordered veal parm dinners. I had a side of spaghetti - which was sitting in a bowl of water. Luckily my request for extra sauce and mixing helped reduce the water through mixing. My husband had watery raviolis. The cutlets were quite good. We also had brought our insulated pizza bag so we could take 2 pizzas home. One extra cheese (delicious, except for burnt crust edge on 2 slices) and one with double pepperoni and double meatball - which we paid for the extra but definitely did not get. Very disappointing to see 9 slices of pepperoni and small meatball pieces count at 10. Really?? The cheese pizza was supposed to be a sausage - but they said they had no sausage.....??? How can they be out of sausage, one of their top and best pizzas? My Chianti was delicious. Dessert was a slice of carrot cake which was quite good. Our waitress was very sweet even if she brought 2 salads with onions after we requested no onions...very warm lady. My husband grew up in Roslindale. This was his go to place, then ours during our dating days. We love the Pleasant, but this was a huge huge let down. Should we go back????? A long drive for a below average meal. read more

Ok so here goes. To those of you who are giving the Pleasant anything less than 5 stars you truly don't understand the heritage and nostalgia of this restaurant and maybe should see it for what it truly is....an institution. Anyone in Boston knows about The Pleasant Café, they know about the terrible street parking, but the large parking lot across the street, they know about the sometimes surly waitresses who walk a bit slow and talk a bit fast, but always greet you with a "hun" in that thick Boston accent and sometimes sit at the booths counting their money as you walk in for a pickup order. This is part of the charm, this is from an era before bright lights and mascots, before loud commercials and 2 for 1 deals were the norm and chain restaurants ruled the world. The interior is dark, the décor is not fung shui and the feel is anything but contemporary...and to that I say......Good. With all these cookie cutter, big league restaurants that charge you for the décor (I was always taught you can't eat the chandelier) its nice to have a place that reminds you of a time more simple. A family restaurant that serves comfort food in large portions at a reasonable price for anyone who looks past the outdated yet iconic outside and realizes great food awaits on the inside. The pizza here is phenomenal and unlike any you will have anywhere else in Massachusetts. The dough is thin but never soggy or floppy, the crust which has the cheese run right up to the edge like high tide at Wollaston Beach has just the right amount of chew and snap when you bite into it leaving you fulfilled but not stuffed. I highly recommend the Hamburg or Sausage but while your at it throw some onions on top.....they use large round pieces of onion instead of those skimpy chopped pieces most pizza places use. The sauce is also one of the best pizza sauces you can have, which is why I usually ask for extra on the pizza or on the side to pour on top. The entrees are all classic homemade comfort food from the Italian dishes with large portions covered in the good stuff such as cheese and sauce, to the mouth watering Prime Rib....feeling healthy get yourself an antipasto loaded with Italian cold cuts and covered in that great Italian dressing...... you will not be let down (or be hungry) when you leave the Pleasant. My parents went here with their parents, myself and my brother went here with my parents, and we now go here with our kids.....its a tradition passed down and one we hope to continue. Enjoy these places, embrace these places because they are a dying breed.......a family run establishment who has been a part of the neighborhood for generations, with working class people from the same neighborhoods making a living serving you. The food at the Pleasant is, and always has been delicious. Cooked fresh to order nothing seems reheated. The salads are fresh. and the pizza is the best in the area. The servers are efficient and friendly. There are mostly all booths, which I prefer with a few tables and a nice full bar. The decor is the original and people in the area and those who have moved away feel like they're coming home when they enter the restaurant. And you absolutely cannot beat the prices. read more

This place is amazing- is one of the top 3 pizza joints in Boston. Their pizza is the old school "south shore" bar style pizza. So if you are looking for fancy pizza with exotic topping combinations, this isn't the place for you. They do the basics, and do them in an amazing way. We visited the Pleasant after hearing good things about the pizza. They have a lot of options on their menu. The service was very good; everyone working was friendly and attentive. However, the quality of the food was just okay. If I was in the neighborhood, I may return for a drink and some sustenance, but I would not go out of my way to make the trip. I am shocked by all the good reviews. I think most of the people that wrote the reviews came here 30+ years ago and it is nostalgia for them. I went last night and ordered chicken parm sandwich, kids pasta and meatball (yes, only came with 1), potato skins and mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were the worst I ever had, the cheese was hard and did not pull apart. Even my husband agreed. It is like they just served me frozen mozzarella sticks. The potato skins were worse, instead of cheddar cheese they put a drop of nacho cheese on them! Also think they were originally frozen. I literally do not understand the good reviews. When I got there a waitress literally told a customer "she is the nastiest person" about a co-worker! It is one thing to think it, but don't announce it to customers. read more

We visited Boston for 6 days and this was my absolute favorite restaurant. The staff was really friendly. The owner literally came to the table and spoke to my friend that had some dietary restrictions to make sure the kitchen got her food correct. We felt like family by the time we left. The food was homemade and absolutely delicious. This is the kind of place people are talking about when they say they want to find a place the locals love. I'm 29 years old, have lived in Boston for 6 years, and just got screamed at by a bartender and an a manager here because it's "against state law" to serve out of state IDs. I have been here no less than 9 times and had alcohol each time. The managers response to that? "Oh we didn't card you last time." Ok, that makes sense. OH.
