Just went in to grab a bite with a friend. We were seated ad then ignored completely for 15-20 minutes. No drink orders. No servers approached us and they all avoided eye contact. There was at least 4 and up to 6 servers standing fewer that 6 feet away chatting with each other instead of doing their job. A person who appeared to be a manager(blue plaid button down shirt) showed up and he actually made eye contact, but instantly looked away an joined in chatting with the servers This is the first and last time I will go to the pour house. The staff needs to be completely replaced from the servers to the managers. None of them are doing their jobs. The cooks might be amazing but the rest of the staff is so horrific I never got a chance to see one way or the other. . I cannot speak about the food since they refused to sell me any. read more

Another day, another round of the CA state high school basketball playoffs. Today's game took my crew and I to Chico, a city known for college parties (Cal State Chico). The last time I was there was years ago when I was still reffing in the college circuit. I was excited to visit again today despite the long drive. We rolled into town just after 3:00pm and were looking for a place to have our pregame meal. Since we all had no idea what the local food scene was like, we turned to Yelp for help. Below is the actual conversation in the car during the search: DM: "Let's go to the Pour House." Me: "Did you say the Whore House?" DM: "No, the Pour House." Me: "The Poor House?" DM: "THE POUR HOUSE! Man, you are getting old!" (*Note: DM is older than me.) Anyway, the Pour House is located in a big shopping center at the corner of East and Cohasset. You can't miss this place because they have a large outdoor bar area with a huge TV. Even the blind can see this place, let alone referees! We walked in at around 3:20pm and were seated immediately at a table off to the side of the entrance. While the inside was quiet, the outdoor area was packed with people. The huge TV was showing an ice hockey game. The contemporary themed interior was clean and pretty bright. There's a large wall mural near the back of our area and the bathroom door was cleverly camouflaged as a part of that. Our server came by and took our drink order (soft drink x3). We were informed that they have a happy hour menu everyday from 3-6pm and from 9pm to closing. After a few minutes of deliberation, we ordered the following: - Chicken Strips Plate - Big Sexy Burger - HH Charity Case-adilla - HH French Fries It didn't take long for the food to come. I had the Charity Case-adilla and fries. Before I started eating, I asked the server about the name since I thought it was kind of funny. She explained that Charity is the name of the chef who came up with the dish. Taste wise, I was pleasantly surprised! The golden brown quesadilla was stuffed with chopped grilled chicken, fresh sliced avocado, black beans, and other things. It was cut into four wedges and served with a roasted tomato salsa and sour cream. Everything worked well together. Even though I ordered it off of the HH menu, the portion was pretty big. For light eaters, that's enough for a full meal. The fries were excellent. They were hot, crispy, and seasoned well. DM had the chicken strips. They looked appetizing. It was served with a small container of honey mustard sauce. He seemed to enjoy them very much. My other game partner, WD, had the Big Sexy Burger, which was a bacon double cheeseburger. That thing was huge! I could tell the patties were hand formed and they each weighted about 1/3 pound. WD said the patties were cooked nicely despite the fact that the server never asked how he would like them to be cooked. WD also commented positively about the fries that came with his burger. Service we received was very good. Our server came by several times to refill our drinks. The total without tips was $46.25. WD was nice enough to pick up the tab (thanks!). I thought the food and service at the Pour House were solid. If I am in the area again, I'd definitely go back. Came in with a group of 40. Communication for a reservation before hand was very good. They had a room ready for us upon arrival. We had a ton of kids and split checks. Both servers handled it like pros and the food and drinks were above and beyond. Awesome spot. Definitely want to come back and sit on the patio. Solid meal with good service made my visit to Pour House and Chico really nice. It was like 105 degrees out on a weekend after hiking the park and enjoying the big pool. Due to the heat, the really nice outdoor patio was pretty empty. Inside the temp was perfect, and the vibrant decor set a nice mood. I was able to watch some sports playing in the bar area. Service was quick and friendly throughout my visit. I had a black bean burger that might not have been fully cooked, but they made modifications for me like taking out cheese and other toppings. I also had a good set of salty fries that rounded out the textures on the plate. Really appreciated how fast things came out of the kitchen, it was packed and I wanted to get headed home. While we waited we looked at the menu and chose what we wanted to eat. After being seated we were completely ignored - no one ever came to our table not even to bring water. Pour House you're going to get the brunt of my Chico beer frustration. Where the hell are the stouts? January 6: should literally be the height of stout season and I can barely find any. Last night was no different at the Pour House. Why is it that every time I ask for a stout they tell me they have a porter? NOT ONE STOUT ON TAP. Aargh. So I accepted the only on-tap porter because it was pouring rain outside and I needed food and a drink. Some hazelnut something or other. If I had to guess I'd go with Heretic....but really didn't pay attention. Okay....end of rant and beginning of praise now. I sat at the bar, as I was alone, and the service was friendly and attentive. I ordered the seared ahi burger, medium rare, and standard fries that it comes with. It was truly delicious. Every morsel was actually perfect. Also, they did allow me to order a half pour of the beer, since I can't possibly drink a full pint (although that's likely because I'm normally drinking an 11% + stout. This porter was probably a 7% so I think I could have handled it LOL). I'd come again for the food, but the beer selection leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I have to say this again, the wait staff is awesome...Rob is awesome Sweet potato fries and fried green beans...the best type of veggies!! I had the French dip burger....off the Hook!!! Burger was juicy and cooked to order. Well done was still juicy. The au jus was flavorful and added the perfect accent to the burger. The Southwest Salad was stacked with chicken. Way too much!!! Great Food...Unfortunately our Family and guests have had food poisoning from this restaurant TWICE. The first time we ordered a Jambalaya shrimp dish and three of us became ill. My mother in-law was in the hospital for a whole day. Since you can't ever know for sure about food poisoning or flu or what, we gave it another shot last night. BAD idea. My husband ate the Brisket burger. Loved it and has been violently ill all night. This man is hardly ever sick and never throws up. It's food poisoning for sure. My daughter kept saying she didn't feel good all night. Glad she is holding it down. I hope they can review their processes and fix whatever the issues are!!! Wash your hands employees, disinfect the kitchen, get a professional in to audit you. Take action!! What will happen if next time it's a child or an elderly person? read more

I understand that anywhere during Graduation weekend is gonna be crazy busy but this just wasn't acceptable. I called two weeks prior for a reservation for 9 and was told they could only seat us as late as 5:00. A little early but we'd make it work. On our way up today we hit traffic and I was worried we'd miss our reservation so I called hoping to push our reservation back. I was told 5:30 was the latest. Okay. We arrive right at 5:30 and were handed a buzzer and told it would but just a few minutes. No problem, we all waited outside. I won't "rant" to much but I was pretty irritated that our 5:30 reservation which we rushed to get to, ended up being 6:30 by the time we were seated. Grrrrr Restaurant was packed which I expected but it was also way to warm. My hubs and I were miserably hot so I asked if they could turn up the air but we never noticed a change Our server was great and took our drink orders quickly. Ahhhh beverages!! Something to cool this momma down. We ordered: Fried green bean appetizers: YUM!!! We ordered 3 servings since our group was large and everyone LOVED them. Curry dishes: dad ordered the vegetarian and mom ordered the chicken. Mom's was to spicy for her so she swapped with my brother for his flat bread. Dad's vegetarian curry was really good. He loved it and the bite I got was great. I think it was the best thing anyone ordered. Sister-in-law ordered what looked like Chinese Chicken Salad. Pretty large considering some other dishes. My other brother ordered the fish & chips which he said was yummy. I didn't taste his dish but it didn't smell greasy or fishy smell so that's A.O.K. In my book. The rest of us got the flat bread either the bacon or the pesto. These were completely lack luster. Super duper small for $10. I'm mean SUPER small. Neither had much flavor so we were grabbing for the balsamic to drizzle all over them. The weird thing about the whole evening and the true reason for the low rating (besides the stupid long wait time) was that instead of all of our dishes being brought out together, they were delivered from the kitchen one .... at ...,. a ...,,, time. So by the time the last dish was delivered, 1/2 the tables meals were cold. Not okay. Positives: cute outdoor patio! Server was great, vegetarian curry was yummy, drinks were good. Negatives: Long wait time even tough we had a reservation. Overpriced. $10 for a flat bread the size of a dessert plate? Me thinks not.
