I called The Printer Doctor regarding a small HP laser printer MFP M281cdw that started to ghost print only in B&W. Tom called me back within 15 minutes and gave me some things to check on the printer and related to the power source to the printer. Unfortunately these suggestions didn't correct the issue. Most likely the fuser needs to be replaced and in talking with Tom, this would be cost prohibitive related to the cost of buying a replacement printer. I contacted Tom about a laser printer problem I was having. My Canon printer was printing a magenta stripe down the page. I replaced the cartridge twice and still had the same problem. Tom explained that magenta cartridges can be problematic and that I should try another. I tried again with a Canon cartridge (not an OEM) and the printer is printing perfectly. I called Tom last week because of a persistent error on my work printer saying there was a jam when there was no jam. He set up a time to come in the next day. I called in sick that day, though, but he rescheduled for the next day I'd be in the office. So super easy in terms of responsiveness and a timely "house call." Printer repair HOUSE CALLS--how great it that?! Tom came out and fixed our HP Color LaserJet printer in about 15 minutes. He responded to our call same day, and was in our office the next day. He charged the minimum service call, which was $90 ($45 if the printer is not repairable). He also cleaned it, and showed us a method for avoiding the paper tray guide moving out of position (which is part of what had caused our problem), and made the best repair possible to the manual feeder tray so that we can at least use it without having to reposition the moveable portion every time we open it. Also showed us how to do a few diagnostics ourselves in future, so free user education along with the repair! NOTE: He does NOT work on ink jet or residential printers--they are relatively cheap to buy and usually aren't worth repairing. read more

I called and talked to Tom and told him the issue with our multi-function printer, that when you make a copy through the top scanner, it would produce several lines across the copy. Basically, he said the glass was dirty and just needed cleaning. I said I did trying cleaning it but he said it was a dirty glass and you may need to run your fingernail on some spots to get it clean. He said if that didn't resolve it, he would come and check it out. Well, lo and behold, after cleaning with some heavy duty alcohol wipes, that did the trick! My printer is a giant POS. Even though I bought it because it could do envelopes and pictures... it really cant.... very sad and I wasted my money. I work at a tax firm and during the tax season, the printer is very crucial in producing the physical copy of the tax return for our clients. Our printer had a fuser issue and we called the printer doctor. While I did not deal with him directly, I have never met anyone who treated their customers so poorly! Just the way he spoke to my boss was so rude! Saying things like he didn't need this job and that it makes him no money. He invoiced us for a fuser that he didn't buy yet and brought it to us days later when we needed our printer working ASAP. Turns out it made the issue worse as there is now a loud cranking noise during a print job. He was obviously frustrated after only the first attempt and walked out saying he'd order another one and be back a certain day. He did not show up on the scheduled date and after a few calls he said he'd be in the next day. By this time, we couldn't have clients come in and 1 working printer so we decided to run to Best Buy to buy a backup. Next day comes and he says his car tire popped and he couldn't come in (come on, I haven't used that excuse since college!). We decided the Printer Doctor was not reliable and call someone else who fixed the issue his very first visit! Turns out the new printer repairer took the bar code of the faulty fuser the Printer Doctor gave us and it was supposed to be sent back to HP but never made it! So he was trying to give us something that didn't work in the first place! Not to mention he overcharged us in comparison to the new repairer! The amount of professionalism in his demeanor, physical appearance and behavior was sorely lack as noted by all of my coworkers. Safe to say the Printer Doctor has lost business with us (not that he needed it because he makes no money doing this anyway). read more

While Tom didn't really fix my printer he did even better. I sent him an email about the problem thinking that I would get his estimate and take the printer to him. He wrote back saying that he didn't work on printers of my type. But he went on to say that my diagnosis of the problem was probably incorrect anyway.
