What a great spot in 30-A! We decided to drive a little further past Destin based on friends' recommendations, and very glad that we did. Ambiance - 5/5 - Located in 30A, this place is really close to the beach. It isn't too large, but it is a great spot to hang out. Staff - 5/5 - Friendly and courteous. Very timely as well. Food/Drink - What we ordered: Pizza bread - $9.50 - 4/5 - Got it for the kiddos. Pretty straightforward. Cheese Sticks - $8 - Nothing special here. Again for the kiddos. Drinkwise, they do not have too many beer selections, so just had a few coronas. However, I do recommend their Old Fashioned. They do have daily food specials, so it is definitely worth to check out. We plan on coming back here on a yearly basis, and we will be sure to come back here again. read more

Went here for my friend's birthday dinner with 8 people and we had a great experience until we had to pay. Food was great, drinks were great, atmosphere was awesome, service was okay. Our server, Ana refused to split the bill to at least two separate checks and came up to us 3 separate times, watched us struggle to try to split the meals and still let us sit there after close trying to figure it out. We have all worked in a restaurant, and know that you can split the bill as much as you would like, it's just pure laziness when you tell a table you can't. It was very frustrating trying to figure out since we had around $60 in differences in meals between us. Everything else was great, but the stubbornness ruined part of our night for us. read more

100% recommend Red Bar for unbelievable entrees especially the eggplant, crab cakes (best in seaside) and grouper dishes. They now offer appetizers and the shrimp pasta and jalapeño poppers were so good! Though they offer a few entrees, they are 10/10 every time and we've been here a ton over the years. A few things to know before your trip: Parking - There's limited parking by the restaurant and if new, I'd recommend calling the place to see where shuttle pick up is located. They run those constantly and you won't need to wait long. Golf cart parking is a bit easier if you want to be close. Drinks - They are not known for their drinks. We've given this so many chances and every time their drinks are heavy with syrup and lack of alcohol. We only get beers or shots here since they can't mix a drink at all. Hard pass on cocktails. Music - Red Bar has live bands throughout the weekend and with a small location, it's always very loud. I'd recommend waiting for a spot near the bar or the outside porch area to soften the sound. We've constantly said if they learned how to make proper drinks and the band played softer, this would be the best place at the beach. With that being said, their food is unmatched hence the 4 star. The Red Bar is obviously popular based on the hour long wait we experienced last night for our first visit. It certainly attracts families. The Red Bar resembles the Bubble Room in Captiva with posters and signs plastered over every square inch of the interior. The Red Bar has several dining areas, but the most popular is the main room where the band plays. The bar was certainly busy and mixing up some great craft cocktails. The menu features seven entrees, most focused on seafood. They bring out a chalk board listing these which your server describes in more detail. The Crab Cakes which are served on Friday and Saturday nights is considered by many to be the signature. The Blackened Grouper is another standout. Having had crawfish the night before, I decided to try the Shrimp and Crawfish over Penne Pasta. It was a large portion with a mound of tender, tasty shrimp. The crawfish was much harder to find. I started with the rich and thick gumbo. Some of the best I've ever had. Just the right amount of spiciness. The cup is literally a bowl at most restaurants. I just wish it was served a bit warmer. Red Bar is a fun gathering place. It has a winning formula: fresh, high-quality food, served quickly, large cold drinks, all available at affordable prices. The Cucumber Margarita was awesome. I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Red Bar. It was evident from the sheer number of people waiting outside and inside at the bar that this was the place to be on a Saturday night. The menu was just as impressive as the ambiance, with a focus on local and fresh ingredients. I've come three times before and this year, I chose to be here on my birthday for the crab cakes. They ran out (see below) so I had the grouper instead. A-maz-ing!!! Both the mahi and grouper special were elevated yet approachable, and the mashed potatoes were particularly noteworthy. The portion size was such that we had some to take home (yay!), and the mashed potatoes were even better the next day. The cocktail menu offered some twists on the old standards that were sooo refreshing and amply poured. We had the spicey margarita and the standard mule. Such a great way to start my birthday. Unfortunately, the night almost ended in tears. As is typical, the restaurant has a few hostesses in charge of assigning tables. I put my name on the list and shouted out my phone number to the hostess. An hour later, I asked where we were on the list. She said we should be called soon. I was within 5 ft of her the whole evening, so I knew I was visible to her and the other hostess. As the restaurant crowd thinned, the hostess was nowhere to be seen. I flagged down someone in the kitchen who told me they called me, but I didn't answer. We compared phone numbers, and she was off by one digit. I sat there the whole evening, and no one came to ask why I had not been seated, if I needed to be seated, if I was planning to dine in, nothing. Fortunately, a fantastic server with top customer service skills said they would seat us and serve us even though the kitchen crew was cleaning up. I did not get the crab cakes; they had already sold out. A quick fix for this situation is for the front-of-house to be observant of those still waiting for a table. Never assume. Also, when using an iPad, it is simple to just turn it toward the customer so they can verify you've put the number in correctly and always, always inform diners of your reservation protocols. Let them know you'll be sending a text immediately to welcome them to The Red Bar, and if they do not receive it, notify the hostess. We did have a wonderful time, and the server did her best to make sure I had a proper birthday meal and comped us the desserts of our choice. We chose the key lime pie and the cheesecake. I am not a cheesecake fan, but she said she vouched for theirs as the best in the area, and since she had already come through for us once, I went with her recommendation. She was right. Both desserts were the best I've had in over a year, and the cheesecake hits as one of the best desserts ever. The crust had a crunchy and buttery texture, and the cheesecake was sweet and tangy at the same time. It was served with a chocolate sauce that was to die for, and both desserts refrigerated well, so I recommend you order a to-go if you're too full for dessert at the restaurant. I had the key lime as an alternative to my birthday cake, and it turned what could have been a negative memory into one of the best birthday memories I'll have. Whether looking for a romantic evening or a night out with friends, The Red Bar has something for everyone. It's a one-of-a-kind establishment that is sure to leave a lasting impression. read more

We stopped in Saturday for dinner and it was packed! There was a live band. Thankfully we got our name on the list so the wait wasn't too long. We got seated in the front room with a great view of the band. It was very loud and dark, such a fun vibe but definitely wouldn't bring your grandmother here LOL Food was absolutely amazing. The Red Bar is kind of off the beaten path, but it definitely has a following and strong word of mouth business. The atmosphere is definitely second to none. The dining room alone is amazing to look at with it's pictures and posters. Add to that the jazz music and laid back vibe, and it's hard not to enjoy this place. The dinner menu looks pretty consistent concentrating on 5 or 6 chalkboard items. I started with Gumbo, which I think I've had every night since I came to Destin. This was definitely one of the better ones I've had here. My wife got the grouper which seems popular here. It was really good. I went for the penne with crawfish and that was pretty good. My son just got apps of chicken wings and mozzarella sticks which he liked alot. Overall, it was one of the better meals I've had in Destin. (Unfortunately though it's my first time in Destin and I have seem to fallen into a lot of tourist traps) I do think the place is kind of touristy. Two different friends who have been to Destin told me I had to try Red Bar out. With that said, we just came for dinner and some drinks, but the bar does look like a lot of fun. I suspect if you are staying within walking distance, it's the place to be. There really is not much parking outside the restaurant and Red Bar will shuttle you from a spot up the road if need be. On my first trip to Red Bar, we covered 2/5 of the menu. I'm by no means disappointed by Red Bar and glad I went, but I just might want to explore more of Destin before I come back. read more

Probably just found my new favorite seafood spot on 30A with the Red Bar. We came in at 4:20 to beat the dinner crowd and glad we did because a line was already forming inside. The main entree list is small, only about 6 items which I think is great because they're able to specialize and really crush their 6 items. They'll have a fish of the day, mahi was ours tonight, another couple seafood items, a chicken dish, and eggplant to choose from. And if you're not feeling those, they have an extensive list of apps served all day long which have all your basic appetizer fare. I got the shrimp & crawfish over penne pasta and it was terrific. Let me begin by stating that we have been faithful customers to Red Bar for ten years. It has always been a requirement for our family to make it a staple of our annual vacation. Unfortunately, one person can ruin your whole evening experience and when you're dropping around $350 minimum, you expect friendly service as well as accommodating. This was why we were so shocked by the snarky attitude we received almost immediately from our server (Server 31 - Alivia... according to our dinner receipt). The ambience of the Red Bar is intentionally very dark. Alivia started off on the wrong foot with us when we tried to shine a light on the menu board. She overreacted and spoke to us as if we were school children being told to listen because she was going to read it to us. The overall tone and facial expression was condescending and cocky. The attitude of the server was disrespectful and flippant. With a party of eight, we saw her at the most four times. We were unhappy with one of our meals, and the waitress gave an indifferent response instead of genuinely asking how can she can make it right. She returned to the table after correcting the meal, 20 minutes later, and referred to my husband as "How is Mr.No sauce?" The reason for her snide remark was because he asked for extra sauce because the pasta was dry. That snarky comment was the last thing she said to the table before bringing the check - again - after a lengthy wait I what was at this point an all but empty dining room. In the light of the dismal service, we truly regret leaving the tip (most of us at our table last night have worked in restaurants and would never dream of that... however , this should have been the exception to the rule). We thought about asking to speak to the manager on duty about the horrible service, but we didn't see anyone who seemingly matched that description and decided to simply vote with our feet and will never step foot in Red Bar again. Hoping that his scathing review reaches both the Red Bar ownership (so they can affect changes and maybe train our server Alivia out of some unprofessional and obnoxious habits) - and as many potential diners as possible, so they can spend their time & money elsewhere in Grayton Beach.
