We tried several small plates and a sweet plate. The risotto was creamy and appealing to the eye but bland in flavor. When the menu says 'poached shrimp', I'm expecting a hot plate. This one was cold. Still tasty but the kimchi was anything but spicy. The kale salad was delicious. The tuna dish with white beans and fennel was also delicious but was served on a plate that could have held a nice mound of fennel salad instead intermixing 3 small slices of fennel with the tuna. For a $15 small plate it should have wowed me a bit more. We then had chocolate cake with tahini marshmallow and chantilly cream. It was very tasty but the dish was chocolate cake crumbs and not a cake at all. Reminded me of muffin tops ala Seinfeld. All in all it was a very nice and interesting meal although watching the chef cook on hot plates and not a stove was a bit odd, but maybe I'm just old fashioned. read more

We went for lunch after seeing the review in the newspaper. The young couple that own and run the restaurant are very friendly and attentive. We both enjoyed our lunch, we had a couscous salad with watermelon and goat cheese, it was a little small, watercress salad with salmon and a charcuterie plate. The only reason I gave them a 4 was because the chairs had flat hard wood seats that were so uncomfortable. I really liked the place, maybe next time I bring a cushion- LOL read more

The menu is limited, which was no problem because we loved everything we tried. Our party of four split three mains and a handful of apps. Highlights included the shishito peppers, dumplings, salmon, and pasta. Even the side salad was beautifully arranged and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely dining experience at this fine-dining restaurant. Our family tried pretty much everything on the menu, and one dish was better than the next. We had a few orders of the snails (first time the kids tried escargot and loved it. We also had the side salad, the Brussel sprout salad, the pasta (amazing), the salmon tartare, the scallops. The Restorative is quite the hidden gem; they offer a simple menu with a definite personality and great flavors; their small selection of wines and homemade sodas are a bonus. Two of my most recent favorites have been the side dish of mushrooms and the scallop entree, but they change their menu at least once a week - so I'm always surprised with something new. The two chefs are very personable and seem to enjoy talking about their work, the space is clean and fresh, and it is definitely on my regular dinner rotation. They are a bit unusual in that they are only open from Monday through Friday, so that is something to keep in mind if you have a bit of a drive to get there. read more

This is a place I constantly look forward to dining at. Their menu is a perfect size considering the detail that goes into each individual plate. Everything is prepared fresh and the menu is in a constant rotation. The owners are the head chefs which makes the whole experience even more special. Our only problem we experienced was narrowing down which starters to get because every item appealed to us. Starting off with their homemade Naan bread and ending which one (or all) of their 3 decadent desserts is the only way to go. I stepped out of my comfort zone to try the Scottish salmon and it was so tasty. The caramelized golden raisins were a unique touch. We've had the same server both times and not only does she present each meal with a full description and have a vast knowledge on wine, she also remembered us. The restaurant has a nice contemporary but cozy feel to it and is decorated with local art on the walls which are also available for purchase. Overall awesome experience. I was privileged to get taken out to dinner at The Restorative on a brief visit to the Tampa area yesterday. In a world of cookie cuter restaurants and mediocre food I was impressed by their creativity . The simple menu offered bold flavors and innovative items that so inspired me that I am writing this review. Came here on a weeknight last week. Unassuming location but fixed up very nice inside. We started with a smaller plate for an appetizer - lamb meatballs. They were great. and then had a couple larger plates. We ended up getting another appetizer- watermelon gazpacho with shrimp. We ate here about a month ago during a quick trip to Dunedin. It's fabulous. Tiny location with amazing food. Everything was fresh and locally sourced. Sit at the bar and chat with the chef as he prepares your dinner. There are only six or so tables so go early. By 8:30 they were turning folks away because they were out of food. read more

I hate to be the one to end Restorative's 5-star ratings, but...I went with my wife and mother-in-law during a weeknight. We were one of only two tables. However, my mother-in-law ordered a dish that was listed as "spicy." She asked if the sauce could be made less spicy or could they substitute a less spicy sauce. The chef came to our table and explained "It is our policy to serve the dishes as made. We do not make changes." We were disappointed but ordered an item to work around this limitation. I forgot the item, but it was good. Service was excellent. Suggested wording: We may not have been as offended if the chef stated that each day's special meals are designed to give a specific flavor profile. We worked hard to find that profile and meet it on a consistent basis. We hope you understand. We urge diners to check the day's menu on-line before you go to ensure the menu will contain dishes of interest. read more

First let say I don't give away 5 stars ! You have to earn them,and they did. The place is very small and cozy with some couches and a coffee table in the back really making it cozy,a few 2 & 4 top tables and a nice eating bar, all very clean and simple looking (nice) but that's where simple ends,the food preparation is very complex, it's more of a experience. The menu changes frequently I'm told, and I was glad to find that out because it is very limited, but I'm intrigued to go back for the next menu to see what they have. Be informed before you go that this is more of a Tapas type restaurant with small plates and larger plates but portions are small either way, so if you're looking for a big steak dinner this would not be the place. But the way the food is prepared it's more of a science, everything we had was excellent. Our server Sully did a excellent job of taking care of us and helping us through the menu. We brought our own bottle of wine and the corkage fee was $15 which is the average price. To say I am disappointed would be a gross understatement. We decided to try out this new restaurant in our area. Read the reviews and drove our family out of the way to this location. Although the the strip mall it's located in was extremely run down we decided to proceed. I walked in with my two very very quiet and well behaved children (age 7.5 and 3.5) who were carrying books they planned to read over dinner. Was greeted by evil stares by employees upon entering and was physically stopped by someone who told me that "Kids under 5 would not be permitted" and I needed to leave. Almost couldn't believe my ears! No notice on Yelp that kids weren't welcomed, not mentioned on the front page of their site, and there was no notice on the door, etc. Definitely embarrassing to say the least. If the owners goal is to keep out people they are doing an excellent job of it. Won't be back that's for sure! read more

Great place away from downtown in Dunedin. Small casual space with additional bar seating that is more like a Chef's Table because you get to watch the team prepare and plate all the food right in front of you. Menu changes throughout the week based on availability of ingredients and popularity dishes. From what I saw and tasted you can't go wrong with any choice. Great new concept in Dunedin... kind of the beaten path, but easily accessible! The aromas were great walking in! Sat at the Bar area and got to watch the food preparation! Had a very tasty and enjoyable dining experience here last week. Went in with pretty high expectations after following their delicious looking exploits on social media. The service was friendly and good, and we at first enjoyed watching the preparation & then plating of our meal...however, this is where they lost two stars, and almost a third, but the food really was carefully thought out, in terms of flavor, so I let it stand. BUT. Food was thawed/cooked in a plastic container, in the microwave. And to me, for a restaurant that touts wholesome, homemade food, this is unacceptable. Science has proven that heating foods, especially in a microwave, in plastic, leaches chemicals in to the food and thus, the diner! A glass dish would have done the job fine & is easily washable, without risking my health. A little disappointed that they were thawing braised meat, when the premise of their menu is that it changes every 2-3 days, but the microwaving in plastic was a deal breaker for me. It's a shame, because they are putting out food that tantalizes in taste & pictures. read more

It was one of the best meals I have ever had and eating out is at the top of our pie chart!! Every single dish was a perfect combination of flavors and spices! The romaine salad with ranch was so addicting. It was the simplest salad but had amazing flavor and I think they must put a magic ingredient in it because we couldn't stopped eating it. I have never had a salad that tasted so amazing In my lIfe. The pork tenderloin could be cut with a fork and it melted in my mouth! It had these amazing sauces that I practically licked off my plate! My husband ordered scallops & tortellini and it was straight out of Chef Gordon Ramsey's TV shows! Incredible! You have won our hearts but most of all you have won our taste buds and our stomachs. I tried so hard to love this place! The vibe was awesome! I couldn't love more the husband and wife cooking team, small and intimate restaurant, menu changing every few weeks etc... what I didn't love was the food unfortunately. Maybe we just caught the menu on an off week since it changes so frequently. We tried 3 different dishes and I didn't really like any of them. Maybe I was being too adventurous trying octopus and sweet bread. I feel like this restaurant tried so hard to have unique dishes I wanted to leave raving. There was just nothing I couldn't put down or hope to have again. Instead I left a little hungry, disappointed and wishing we had gone elsewhere. Sadly, I don't think we will be back. If you want to try it I recommend arriving early as they do not take reservations and were turning people away for the evening by 7pm. The service was superb! read more

My wife and I went last night for dinner. The place is cute and very clean. Also service was excellent. The food was good but did not rise to the level of the yelp reviews on here. While innovative and tasty, portions were small and, other than the desert, in need of more of a flavor flair. We had a tuna appetizer. The tuna chunks were fresh and very tasty, although the eggplant derived base needed to be much more present and the crispy Melba toast base needed more of to go with the tuna. Also had a risotto and cheddar cheese appetizer, which we enjoyed but was not remarkable. Out main course was pasta with calamari. Good but again not remarkable, although it did have a lot a calamari. The desert was a chocolate balsamic mouse n strawberry bits n a beet infused sponge cake-like bits. Almost too small to taste.
