This is an amazing little restaurant hidden in an everyday plaza.This place is very small but when we went at 5:30ish it was empty and 2 other parties came in later. They have bar seats and regular seats available. The owner and staff are super friendly and the food was just so unique and delicious. Their menu changes often, sometimes almost daily, so what I am posting about today will probably not be on the menu when you go! What we ate: Toast with uni and bone marrow butter- I love uni and bone marrow so I had to get this. It was good but I wish there was more uni and maybe a side of real bone marrow for that EXTRA kick of flavor. Hamachi crudo- Very delicious. It came with a seaweed salsa that was just so unique and made this crudo different! The fish was fresh and it was just great. Beef carpaccio- This was beefy, salty, and amazing. Everything on this plate together was just amazing. I don't even know what else to say. Pea panna cotta with crab salad- WOW! I don't like peas but I wanted to try this because its a PEA PANNA COTTA.. this isn't something you see EVER so I had to try it. SO FREAKING GOOD. The mixture and texture of the pea panna cotta and crab salad was so unique in a good way. I wanted to order another one but I was too full at the end of the meal! Egg yolk ravioli- This was so rich and very yummy. The ravioli was cooked perfectly and the egg yolk just made everything taste creamy and yummy! Cobia with saffron tomato sauce- The fish and veggies were cooked perfectly! I don't really like tomato sauces with cobia so this dish was good but not my favorite. My boyfriend enjoyed the sauce and ate it all though! Short ribs- YUM! These were so tender and the mix of the carrots and the sauces made this hard to stop eating! Brie cheese semifreddo- Another unique and amazing dish. I've never had a cheese semifreddo before! The mixture of the cheese and fruit and cake were just a perfect combination! Chocolate ganche with raspberry, hazelnut, and whipped caramel- Such a pretty plate with lots of yummy flavors. This one was good but did not compare to the brie cheese dessert!! The prices were not bad for the kind of food this place serves. We paid around $121 and got everything but 2 items on the menu, 3 beers, and a house made soda. I've not had a dining experience this unique since a visit to The Admiral in Asheville last year. The decor is minimal, local art on the wall, a cozy (2 small couches) reading corner and series of 2 and 4-top tables. A "dining bar" lets you watch the dishes come together if that intrigues you. When we visited smooth sounds of 70's pop was playing on the stereo. The menu changes often, so don't consider what I've added in the photo to be a given. Based on what we had I can't imagine being disappointed by any offering..... The staff was friendly and engaging - which, given the size of the place, you really have to be! Sully was awesome, making sure we were happy throughout the visit. We started with a couple small plates - scallop ceviche and a roasted peach with ricotta. Both plates featured mildly eclectic ingredients that combined for an awesome plate - great combinations of tastes and textures (example - popcorn on the ceviche was a unique way to add a salty/crisp note to the dish without having it taste "simply salted"). Both plates were really awesome. For an entree we selected pork tenderloin and cod - the former done sous vide to an ideal firm texture, the latter steamed. Again, both proteins were presented with ingredients that really made for a party on the tastebuds. We finished with a unanimous decision to both get a chocolate ganache, and once again the presentation with the lavender "yogurt" and a few flecks of sea salt made for an unbelievably delicious dessert. We didn't have any of the alcoholic selections, but we did enjoy an apricot and lavender soda - which we found..... wait for it.... very restorative. You'll spend a little more on dinner here than most places in town, but you'll not find any of the "molecular gastronomy" taking place here anywhere else that I know of..... It's a great alternative to the ocean of burgers & fries and grouper platters all over the rest of town. read more

Ever look so forward to going to a place to eat and worry you built it up too much? Well thank goodness this was not the case. I've been following them since day one on all social medias and salivated and was amazed at each post. It got to the point I had to start weening out people I could go with because I built it up that much. Luckily they are more than I imagined. By far my favorite meal in Florida after moving here four years ago and traveling here many times before. I would also put this in my top ten emails of all times in all my travels. This place leaves you comfortably full but also happy with the food you ate For apps we all shared the salmon tartar, rigatoni, and fluke ceviche. All so fresh and delicious and perfectly seasoned. The parents got the poached salmon and I had the pork belly with broccoli purée. Beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned and cooked. None of us are dessert people but shared the carrot cake pana cotta, carrot purée with granola and burnt caramel. Savory and amazing. I would want to win the lotto strictly to eat here five days a week as their menu changes week to week and possibly more than once a week. I must also compliment the amazing server. Was very personable and more importantly perfectly knowledgeable about the food being that offered that day as well as the business itself. read more

I'm being generous here because we had such an entirely unpleasant experience and the restaurant staff was a large part of why. I've worked in every job in the industry from front of house to the line and I've been an investor in restaurants before. So perhaps my viewpoint is different. The food was generally fine, although there was nothing spectacular. The flavor profiles were fairly standard and the individual dishes competent. My wife ordered a scallop fish and the scallops themselves were cooked perfectly. The problems began with our 11-year-old daughter who asked for a dish to be modified. She's a vegetarian and there really wasn't anything that appealed to her on the menu so we asked if they could provide some plain noodles (there were two pasta dishes on the menu) perhaps with some oil and cheese or butter. The answer was at first no, and then after I essentially threatened to leave we were told that they "portion everything" and that it was a one time accommodation. Well they were right about one thing: it was a one time thing because we aren't coming back. Oh, and then they charged us the full price of the entree for a dish that had a real cost of about $2. So I hope that margin was worth it. Let's be clear. These people can cook. Their front of house and people skills leave a lot to be desired. Despite the restaurant being 50 percent empty we were seated next to the couch area and a sextet of single women who had clearly chosen the ladies from Sex and the City as their life coaches. At the end of the day this is what it is. A restaurant run by people who are relatively inexperienced that's located in an out of the way shopping center. The menu and food has huge potential but it was a truly unpleasant experience for us. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow! We went to The Restorative on a whim one Friday night, and (thankfully due to our early eating tendencies) were able to walk right in. We opted to sit at the counter (highly recommended!) to watch the action. I have to eat gluten free, so I asked the waitress if she could help me navigate the menu. That particular night, they could do ALL starters, 2 of the entrees and 2 of the desserts gluten free. Needless to say, we ordered a lot for a casual Friday night dinner. First up, and my personal hero of the night, were the Sweetbreads. They were pan seared and coated in a sweet and sour sauce that I could have drank with a straw. We also had the polenta starter with mushrooms, which was simple, yet delightful. The mushrooms were next level! For our entrees, I got the Scallops and hubby got the Bolognese. The scallops were cooked to perfection and huge! Hubs said the pasta and bolognese was amazing, almost like a pulled pork style vs the traditional. For dessert, we got the gouda cheesecake and the hazlenut panna cotta. The cheesecake was honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was salty, almost completely savory. But paired with a pear compote and caramel. We are locals to Dunedin, and will be back quite frequently. I love a menu that changes, and food that speaks for itself. Excellent food experience. Started with the mixed greens, shaved carrots, bean sprouts salad with tahini ranch dressing. Then had the potato (pomme) purée with seaweed butter. I used it as a dip for the house baked facaccia. For the main course I had the salmon with amazing golden beets beet purée hazelnuts fresh horseradish and dill. This went great with the Pinot Grigio. I throughly enjoyed this meal. For dessert I had the tropical fruit cake. The chef is a foodie artist and the service is friendly and professional. Go there and enjoy. I really wanted to like this place but, unfortunately, it was a thumbs down for me. Beer and wine only; no liquor. Ordered the scallop appetizer. It was ONE scallop. They placed it in a giant sea shell in a pool of clarified butter. $17 for a single scallop. The beef with foie gras was extremely rare and the foi gras was some some sort of cooked patty that tasted like no foie gras I have ever eaten, and that is not a good thing. The service was good. The was my diet "cheat" day and I found myself wishing I had picked any OTHER place than this one because the food just didn't taste good. 2 stars are for the service and dessert. read more

A really amazing find in Dunedin. Visited on a Friday night after the normal dinner rush and sat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen. Right off the bat, the lighting in the restaurant catches you off guard. It's quite bright, but I soon realized why. I started with veal tongue pastrami. The dish combined a simple potato salad, thin sliced veal tongue, and Brussels sprouts; nicely arranged and portioned. For my entree, I choose their black garlic spaghetti. An awesome combination of fresh house made pasta with a well balanced black garlic purée. The pasta was perfect and the sauce even better. For desert, I enjoyed the sweet potato mousse. A small dome of mousse was covered with a cinnamon apple fondit-like shell. Inside was a bright berry filling. Garnished with house made marshmallows this desert was perfect. All of the food was accompanied by fantastic wines, recommended by their sommelier. Throughout the meal, the lighting choice for the restaurant became obvious. This place is a food lab. They want you to see all of the work, preparation, and attention that goes into your meal. I can honestly say this was the best food I've had in north Pinellas county, and top 3 meals I've had in the greater Tampa area. 5 stars! read more

We arrived at 5:00 for a seat at the bar due to the unusual reservation asking for a credit card so they could charge 25.00 per head for cancellations. Never have seen this before. We ordered a bottle of white wine, naan bread, escargot, and two orders of halibut. We observed the chef bring the halibut that we had ordered and noticed that it was pre cooked, actually there were 6 pieces on a small serving tray pre cooked. So much for fresh ingredients!! The fish was taken from the tray and put into the oven and heated!?! We were served escargot one order that we split, the dish was ok not the usual escargot that we are accustom to. Then came the fish, we have both lived in Florida all of our lives and my husband has speared fish since the early 70's and we know what fresh fish should taste like, this halibut had a fishy taste to it!?! We decided not to order desert because we thought the meal was sub par for the price we paid with an 18% gratuity already added to the bottom line. We paid $175.00 for this meal and will never go back!! In hindsight we should have gone to another restaurant in Dunedin where we have been before. Side note they had two choices of beer both from Dunedin Brewery one was a lager the other an ale. Wine was a choice of four different bottles. read more

This is amazing. The owners, Jason and Cricket are so personable and awesome. Started with the scallops- amazing, and the short ribs-Whoa. Get them both. Then to the Middles- got the foglio pasta and the bacon meatballs. The homemade pasta itself was the best I've ever had, the polenta under the meatballs was like a heavenly cloud. And for dessert we got the black pepper pound cake, which other than the scallops, was my favorite dish. You can't go wrong, everything is magical and wonderful. I can't say enough good things. The food is perfection: the ingredients shine in creative plating without being overfly fussy, and the ingredient pairings work well together. I've eaten here several times and I've never eaten the same thing twice as they are always updating the menu to serve up the freshest, in season ingredients. It's borderline fine dining food (leave the kid at home) but located in a small casual space in a shopping plaza, so feel free to come in casual clothes. You'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. Went there last night and LOVED it . I am a pretty decent home chef who can easily replicate any dish I have out to eat...not so much the delicious adventure on a plate served at The Restorative. Started with the goat cheese, red pears, pistachio and benton's ham- yum- the goat cheese was whipped and it was delicious. Our large plates were the crab, smoked snapper, rice, sofritto, old bay it was great but my favorite was the "coq au vin", mushrooms, thyme jus it was a great take on an old classic. Popped in here on Saturday night for an early birthday celebration with my fiance. We had a rez for a table, but opted for the bar as we wanted a more "fun" experience. I am so glad we did! It was lovely chatting with the owners. We ordered the naan bread (OMG!), the ahi tuna (YES PLEASE!) and the scallops and pork tenderloin to share. I've never experienced pork cooked the way we had it. I guess I've been eating it wrong my whole life. It was truly a stellar experience, and I can't wait to come back with family and friends.
