Recently, Sept. 1st, My Husband and I made reservations for dinner, for 2:00, pulled up the menu on- line and were happy with the options. Upon arriving we were seated and given a simple menu without the specials, when asked, were told that they weren't available until 4:00, not printed on the website anywhere and not told when I made the reservation for our Anniversary dinner. Sadly, we left hungry, ate at home. This should be printed on-line, to save disappointment. Went here on a Sunday afternoon during what I thought was going to be a busy lunch hour. Restaurant was not super busy. The atmosphere is quaint and nostalgic. The service was ok ... not great. In ordered a crab cake sandwich which was quite bland. The other people at my table both ordered a Rueben which they said was tasty but typical Rueben. I was actually looking forward to the brunch menu but it was nothing to write home about so I went with the crab sandwich. I've been to Ripe Tomato previously and it teeters between a 3 and 4 star review (in my opinion). I would love to see some specials or something different for them to stand out a bit. read more

We can't believe this was our first visit here, as we live 3 minutes away, but it was worth the wait! Really tasty food, decently priced, and wonderful service. THIS PLACE IS JUST AMAZING!! after celebrating my friends' daughters' b.day at chain restaurants, past few yrs., i was surprised when she told me they wanted to eat at THE RIPE TOMATO. have dined here a couple times, with no complaints whatsoever, (other peoples' treat) and was happy my friends decided to come here instead. b.day girls reasoning: "well, i did some price comparisons, and saw that "ripe tomato" is actually a bit more affordable.....and all the reviews looked good..." so here we were. with about a 15 minute wait, we managed to have a comfortable booth. b.day girl and her mom asked our lovely waitress, "jackie", if they had raspberry lemonade. they did not, but she managed to put something together, which had actual REAL PUREED FRUIT into tall glasses with lemonade. mom and daughter said it was better than anything they'd had at the usual chain eateries. they kept saying it was " very flavorable, much tastier then ones they'd had at chain restaurants. this inspired me to order one as well, and i was not disappointed. we were all IMPRESSED when they brought out obviously freshly baked bread, still warm in a basket-slightly crispy crust, with melt in your mouth yumminess...and a plate of beautifully shaded olive oil, and several whole chunks of roasted garlic! birthday girl kept saying "OMG, i don't even LIKE bread. i don't even EAT bread at home, i really don't, but OMG....this is soooooo good!", in between bites, slices, and dunking. gotta say, my good friend is seldom, if ever, happy with a meal, lol. she always finds something to complain about. always, bless her picky little heart. she was THRILLED with her seafood dish, which had some kind of fish, along with shrimp, and rice....served on the SIDE, not below the seafood offerings, so it stayed fresh. the only sounds coming out of her were "Omg, this is so GOOD"....and bday girl was absolutely THRILLED with her steak. she kept forking the vegetables, happily, holding up mushrooms..."OMG! look at THESE MUSHROOMS! ...WHOLE MUSHROOMS! omg, THIS IS SOOO GOOD!" her steak was sizeable, and she loved the seasoning/flavor, and mashed potatoes that came with it. i ordered the chicken alfredo, a very generous portion that was simply amazing; not overly salted, or ridiculously "thick" with the sauce. jackie (our server) was on the ball, completely; very attentive, even when the place was slamming busy. as it slowed down, and people had left, we engaged her in a bit of conversation, and could tell she truly loves her job here, and takes pride in her work. i think she convinced us not to bother with chain restaurants again, lol. i was the only one who ordered/wanted dessert....and OMG, the slice of chocolate layer cake??? suffice it to say that in a chain restaurant, it would have been (or IS) 1/4 the size of the offering (if not less)-and good chance it would have cost more than, i believe, the 8.00that it was. we were blown away. suffice it to say, i took 80 percent of that cake home... i was expecting my friend to come up with...well, SOMETHING a little critical of the dining experience, on the drive home...but alas, i think she was absolutely thrilled upon dining at THE RIPE TOMATO. not an easy task, lol. We were able to get a table without much of a wait. Atmosphere was pleasant - busy but not loud. Food was great. I had the Haddock Almondine, which was delicious and cooked to perfection. Servings are huge! The bread they serve first comes with roasted garlic in olive oil. I could live on that alone the bread was awesome. read more

Another disappointment here. We had the special of chicken franchese and the fetucinni alfredo with chicken. The chicken in the Frachise was tough and chewy. The Alfredo with chicken would be hard pressed to equal 4 ounces. We used to recommend this place to friends and visitors. Thats hard to do when we wont be returning ourselves. The Ripe Tomato is like the restaurants your parents took you to when you were a kid. it's homey and comfortable with white lace curtains, tables and booths, a big back room and a bar area. I go there every Easter with my daughter and son-in-law. A year ago we went for Thanksgiving and I swear my mom was in the kitchen cooking! Real turkeys and not just breasts for those of us who like dark meat. It was a great meal. read more

I had lived in the Ballston Spa area for 54 years and had many great meals at Ripe Tomato. I now live in Vermont. My daughter and I stopped and looked forward to a nice meal. We both ordered Pork Schnitzel......what a disappointment! The meal arrived with a slab of I think pork that could not be cut with a steak knife. The "potato pancake" was mashed potatoes formed into a cake like portion with a little browning on each side. This was not a potato pancake. We were unable to chew the meat, the meal was a disaster. I don't know what's happened to the Ripe Tomato that Intemember but this was not it. Very disappointed!!!! read more

We stumbled upon this place on the way to another place for Lunch. The other place was way too crowded. So we stopped here. Sure glad we stopped in, the Covid 19 procedures are evident and it was awesome! Good service, delicious moscato and my Tuscany Chicken sandwich was perfect. My husband got the Roast beef and Swiss Special. Very pleased and every thing was delicious. Told friends of ours that are also here for a family event that it they should stop in too. This place has been around a long time, but I've only started going there this year. They served a large group of us recently, and it was terrific. I set things up for a weekday, as I know they get very busy on the weekends. I would not call it a gourmet restaurant, but the food was very good, and very reasonably priced. The waiter, I believe his name was Jesse, but I can't swear to it (young guy, but he's a veteran there) was terrific! Sharp, organized, friendly, and attentive. There is a very old odor which immediately turns you off food. Tried the grilled cheese a year ago and they skimped on the cheese. Maybe one piece which you could hardly see. We wanted to try again however the odor was a big turn off. Never going back again. read more

Went there last night for my birthday dinner. My bf is on an oil free vegan diet and I am gluten and soy free The waitress was very patient and went back to the kitchen several times to check the ingredients and consult with the chef. Im the end the chef made an oil free tomato sauce for my bf and I had a chicken dish minus the gluten both were delicious. Our bottle of wine was very good as well and I even got a complementary birthday desert. All in all a great place to eat! Can't believe I have never been there before. I've been to the ripe tomato several times over the years with family and friends. The latest was with a friend in town for a concert. Many places were closed Sunday night and this was a few minutes down Rte 9 and convenient to get on the expressway afterwards. The inside is cozy and the food is a good value for the portion. This isn't a place that just serves sub-par food and makes up for it by giving you a lot. I've had their pork schnitzel in the past and the red cabbage that comes with it is yummy. This time I ordered a strip steak and it was cooked rare like I asked. The sides were good. It wasn't too loud so my friend and I could catch up easily. The waitress wasn't intrusive but attentive. Over all this is main stay on my list of places to go in the area. read more

This is our family's favorite Italian restaurant to go to. Every time we eat there, the food gets better. I always have the same dish - Pollo Tres Modos - tender chicken, perfect baby spinach, prosciutto, and cheese (hold the roasted red peppers for me) in a tomato cream sauce, and I always think I'll eat the whole thing but always take half home. The matching of flavors combined with the sauce is perfect as is the side dish of angel hair pasta with garlic sauce. Try any of their dishes, they're all good! read more

We were quickly greeted and seated. Our table was in a quiet corner. Carol quickly took our order, served our soups and grabbed a bottle of cream sherry from the bar for a splash in my husband's shrimp and scallop bisque. I had New England clam chowder, hot and this with potatoes and clams. His classic burger was listed as coming on an english muffin but we were offered a Kaiser roll if we preferred, which my husband did. Served with lettuce tomato and a dill pickle spear and French fries. My crab pattie sandwich, which I ordered without the Kaiser roll was freshly made (not some frozen thing.) served with romaine lettuce, tomato, bacon, and a side of tartar sauce, and sliced sweet pickles. I would have preferred maple dipping sauce to the ketchup for the sweet potato fries. It was accompanied by pickles and I ordered sweet potato fries instead of regular. We overheard the dessert menu several times and it was extensive . We sat across from the bar which had 2 tv's. The bar appeared to be well stocked. The ladies room was very clean, had saloon style wooden stall doors and the dated mint green-blue sink had obviously been well cared for. My husband reported that the men's room had similar decor. The place is always busy! The service team are very friendly. I love the variety of the menu and the daily specials. We arrived a bit too late and missed the daily quiche special, which looked delicious. I ordered the grilled cheese and French onion soup. Both very delicious and filling. My husband had the fish and chips and thought they were okay. My Aunt got the Manhattan chowder and fried clam special. She enjoyed them but nothing exciting. An overall good place to eat. read more

One of those places where they tempt you with a dessert cart - be warned! :) Food is always cooked well and staff has been helpful and friendly on my visits. A lot of old time staples that I would never make myself at home (because whoa butter and cheese!). They have a delicious seafood bisque and a few fun pork dishes I really enjoy. I had a new favorite last night haddock Milanese. I hope they leave it in the menu rotation it was great. It was served with two good sized pieces of haddock.The lemon sauce was creamy and very good. After refreshing drinks and the most delicious lobster bisque, crisp cold lettuce house salad with basil tomato dressing...warm crusty bread, our server Linsdey brought our entrees...The Almondine fresh haddock was buttery and every bite delicious the rice pilaf has a fantastic spice .... dessert...no we didn't have room until she mentioned homemade f4esh Key Lime pie....pi-ehhhh yes we finished every morsal and I can't wait to go back!!! Love this place. We showed up on a Friday night and we were seated immediately. The bread is outstanding!! Served with EVO and roasted garlic cloved (which I wish were mnore thoroughly cooked but that didn't stop us!) I had the eggplant app which was 3 sliced of crispy eggplant with a ripe tomato and mozzerella on top. Really good but the eggplant shoud be much thicker as you really couldn't taste eggplant at all just the crispiness. My spouse had the a chicken dish I cannot recall the name of but I will say that there were 3 very generous chicken breasts and they were delicious and he thouroughly enjoyed it. Wow. What a surprise ! After an all day work related event with a few of my co-workers, we stumbled upon The Ripe Tomato. We are all road sales and eat often on the road. Rarely is it as good as this! The atmosphere is friendly and the food is great to the end. I enjoyed the Pollo Tres Modos, which was out of my normal range of Italian food for me. The Chicken Marsala was unreal. Excellent. The other dishes were awesome too. The topper was tge dessert cart. Tiramisu is good. Loved the cannoli. The triple chocolate cake a la mode was the better. Great place. I love the old style roadside restaurants. New York has many, as do VT, NH and ME. Very few have the culinary enjoyment and atmosphere of this place! read more

This should be a six star restaurant. We arrived at a busy time and the host gave us the option of sitting at the bar or a 20 minute wait. We chose the bar. It was cosy and the bartender was excellent. In the bar the apps were six dollars a steal for the quantity and quality of the several choices. The menu has a choice for everyone. Bring an appetite the food portions are very generous. They do offer smaller portions for a reduced amount. The roast pork was excellent and the pollo Milano was equally excellent. The restaurant has eclectic seating - it was formally a house so several rooms with both table and booths. This has got to be the BEST Italian food I have ever eaten in my life. Me and my very very very good friend come here and it has changed the course of our lives entirely.
