After a 4.5 mi run, I came here craving brunch food on a Sunday morning. I was thrilled to know that there was no wait for a table outside on the patio. BUT I was quickly annoyed by (a) flies flying everywhere around our food, (b) the noise level from the chatter and traffic outside; this made it difficult to hear H and E sitting across the table from me. (c) The heat became overwhelming after noon time, since the sun began to beat down on us, even though there was umbrella cover above our table on the patio. If I come back, I'll choose indoor seating. I liked the potato cake and crispy, buttered wheat toast, but the Henry XIV omelet, containing Swiss cheese and avocado, was nothing to write home about. In fact, the avocado was already browning by the time I got my order. My water was refilled in a timely manner though, and our waitress was friendly, so service was pretty decent that day. Pro tips: 1. They've got a private parking lot outside. 2. There's a wire fence where you can also lock up your bike. 3. Sit indoors to avoid flies, noise, and heat. read more

The Roost rocks. Particularly if you like eggs Benedict. I do not, personally. But those who do love the Roosts' version. It's a classic diner in a tiny building just outside of downtown. Blink and you'll miss it. Anyhow, you can't really go wrong, the breakfasts are great, the coffee is strong enough and the service is so good, its unreal.The same two ladies are there every time and the food always arrives promptly. I write this review and give it the rating I am giving it for a few reasons... First of all it's hard to find good breakfast place, also considering this place is located close to downtown and is mostly a college community.. I am strictly rating this review on the food and service! It's pretty clean too! Day One- As we are getting ready to order I asked the server (Lisa) what was their most popular item on the menu, she recommends anything with their corn beef hash, they look on my face must of said it all, she asked if I didn't like it and I told her I'd never tried it.. Without ever asking she brings me a sample... WOW! I really wasn't expecting that from this kind of place.. The person I was with really liked it, I'm not a fan of corn beef in the first place but I did try it and it was very tasty just not for me.. I ordered the Ham, Cheese and Mushroom omelet and the person I was with order the traditional Eggs Benedict (another recommendation from Lisa). W also ordered 1/2 a waffle because my fellow yelpers reviews raved about it.. Everything was DELICIOUS! Day Two - Ordered the Roost Burrito and Eggs Benedict again and both item were just as delicious.. Oh yeah, this time we ordered a full waffle.. We were in town to watch a show at Sierra Nevada brewery and had breakfast here the next day on the way out of town. Holy smokes! This place is incredible. One of the best breakfasts I've had! I had the Californian omelet (as a scramble) great mix of flavors and the hash browns were excellent. My wife had the potato and corned beef hash pancakes, which was incredible (and the heated leftovers were almost as good). Overall I would highly recommend breakfast here and would almost consider a trip back over the mountains to eat here again. read more

Had brunch here Sunday with my husband. I had an item from the lighter side egg, bacon , hash browns and a biscuit. My husband had a farmer Dans omelette. Service a little slow but good. Came here based on the Yelp reviews. Great little hole in the wall with fresh and delicious food. If you are new to the Roost Cafe, you need to go in one of the 2 doors closest to Park Ave. (or counter seating section) and put your name in at the cash register if you want a seat at a table which is at separate entrance. (It will make more sense once you are there) Ordered the Vegetarian Omelette even though I am not and enjoyed it especially the fresh spinach. However one of my dining companions ordered the Park Avenue Omelette and did not like the Parmesan sauce on the top which was unexpected. Service was friendly and food came out fairly quickly. B'fast was a little pricier when compared to Jack's Family restaurant where I had gone the day before. Definitely worth a repeat stop in the future. read more

First time here yesterday and I'm excited to go back! Yes, the set up is a little strange and also small but the food made up for it. I'd say my review is a 3.5, not a 3. I didn't have high hopes for this place, but was recommended by many. -1 Star because I asked for a water and there was a whole napkin inside. Not sure how the server didn't see it but it let me know that they don't clean and sanitize their dishes good enough. -.5 stars because I asked for the chorizo breakfast burrito and all I could taste was flour and Italian sausage. This place is one of the best breakfast places in Chico!!!!! If not the best. It doesn't look like much from the outside but their food is AMAZING!!! They have two separate dining rooms, one in the front with just counter seating and one in the back with table seating. They also have an outside area for when it's nice and sunny out. The eggs Benedict is the thing to get!!! The hollandaise sauce is some of the best I've had!!! They load the plate up with sauce, hash browns, and eggs. My favorite is the roasted asparagus and ham benedict but the traditional is just as amazing!!! Their French toast is also amazing!!! Soft and delicious with loads of sides!!! If you have a Rooster phobia, stay away. The place is plastered with cocks from front to back! For everybody else, The Roost offers excellent food at a value, great service, and a homey feel. I've had their chicken and waffles twice now, and it is amazing. The waffles are perfect in every way: flavor, texture, and portion. Also have tried their biscuits and gravy, which are exactly the way you want biscuits and gravy to be. Servers are always friendly and on the ball with coffee and other refills, and the environment is lively without being noisy or stifling. The only drawback here is that if it is very busy, parking can be a bit of an issue, and you may end up parking on the street and walking a short distance. My favorite breakfast spot in Chico!! I enjoy the counter style seating ( it can get a little tight on space if you're a big fella) but there is limited table and outdoor seating. My two favorite meals are the Irish Benedict and the Farmer Dan's Omelette. The menu has all the traditionals but with some of the favorites Mom makes like "Breakfast Pigs in the Blanket". Not sure what the hype is here... I mean food came out super quick, but my daughter's pancake was raw. Again, I don't mind waiting for my food to be cooked fully. Said this plenty of places. Anyways, I had the biscuits and gravy.. they were soooo dry my boyfriend had corned beef hash and he said it was really good... paid $6 for a side of bacon today which was actually more expensive than my actual "light" order. $60 total and it's safe to say I won't be back! honestly I don't understand how this restaurant has such high reviews. The place seemed a little dirty. I ordered an eggs benedict. my daughter had pigs in a blanket. the floors were carpeted and sticky and dirty. People seemed to be enjoying themselves all around us. I'm newish to Chico, so I'm not sure, if I wasn't in on the joke, or whatever, but I've had excellent breakfast experiences here but The Roost is nothing to write home about. Sorry. read more
