Decor in here was awesome. My mother would have loved to just sit and look at all the fun chicken items around the walls. The place is relatively small, so you might have to wait a bit if its busy. We came around 9:00 am on a Saturday and waited about 5 minutes for them to clear a table inside for us. Though there was room on the patio when we arrived, when we left the patio and inside was full. Food was delicious. Service was a bit slow, I think they could do for another person on wait staff and/or more kitchen space. I had the farmer Dans omelette and my wife had the Johnny Cakes. An unexpected hole-in-the-wall gem found in south Chico. We ventured out on a rainy winter Sunday morning and were met with Incredibly friendly waitresses. After placing the order, our food arrived within 15 minutes... substantial amounts of fresh home fried potatoes (green peppers and onions added on request), crispy bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs/omelets and toast toasted and buttered to perfection. Very quant neighborhood cafe. We ate lunch here for the first time after shopping at Gates next door. First look at the menu the prices are on the high side but the quality of the food prepared makes it well worth the cost. I had the French Dip and the roast beef was tender, the French roll was fresh and the auju was not overly salty like some other places serve it. My life mate had the Tuna melt and he said it's close to being one of the best he's had. The fries were done crispy and good They are only open 6:00 am to 1:30 pm and seating is limited. We were in town to watch a show at Sierra Nevada brewery and had breakfast here the next day on the way out of town. Holy smokes! This place is incredible. One of the best breakfasts I've had! I had the Californian omelet (as a scramble) great mix of flavors and the hash browns were excellent. My wife had the potato and corned beef hash pancakes, which was incredible (and the heated leftovers were almost as good). Overall I would highly recommend breakfast here and would almost consider a trip back over the mountains to eat here again. read more

Came here based on the Yelp reviews. Great little hole in the wall with fresh and delicious food. If you are new to the Roost Cafe, you need to go in one of the 2 doors closest to Park Ave. (or counter seating section) and put your name in at the cash register if you want a seat at a table which is at separate entrance. (It will make more sense once you are there) Ordered the Vegetarian Omelette even though I am not and enjoyed it especially the fresh spinach. However one of my dining companions ordered the Park Avenue Omelette and did not like the Parmesan sauce on the top which was unexpected. Service was friendly and food came out fairly quickly. B'fast was a little pricier when compared to Jack's Family restaurant where I had gone the day before. Definitely worth a repeat stop in the future. read more

This place is one of the best breakfast places in Chico!!!!! If not the best. It doesn't look like much from the outside but their food is AMAZING!!! They have two separate dining rooms, one in the front with just counter seating and one in the back with table seating. They also have an outside area for when it's nice and sunny out. The eggs Benedict is the thing to get!!! The hollandaise sauce is some of the best I've had!!! They load the plate up with sauce, hash browns, and eggs. My favorite is the roasted asparagus and ham benedict but the traditional is just as amazing!!! Their French toast is also amazing!!! Soft and delicious with loads of sides!!! I'd say my review is a 3.5, not a 3. I didn't have high hopes for this place, but was recommended by many. -1 Star because I asked for a water and there was a whole napkin inside. Not sure how the server didn't see it but it let me know that they don't clean and sanitize their dishes good enough. -.5 stars because I asked for the chorizo breakfast burrito and all I could taste was flour and Italian sausage. My favorite breakfast spot in Chico!! I enjoy the counter style seating ( it can get a little tight on space if you're a big fella) but there is limited table and outdoor seating. I've had their chicken and waffles twice now, and it is amazing. The waffles are perfect in every way: flavor, texture, and portion. Also have tried their biscuits and gravy, which are exactly the way you want biscuits and gravy to be. Servers are always friendly and on the ball with coffee and other refills, and the environment is lively without being noisy or stifling. The only drawback here is that if it is very busy, parking can be a bit of an issue, and you may end up parking on the street and walking a short distance. The menus (printed paper sheets) sometimes are a bit funky and could use being thrown away. The place definitely could use a good overall fixing and cleaning up. Not sure what the hype is here... I mean food came out super quick, but my daughter's pancake was raw. Again, I don't mind waiting for my food to be cooked fully. Said this plenty of places. Anyways, I had the biscuits and gravy.. they were soooo dry my boyfriend had corned beef hash and he said it was really good... paid $6 for a side of bacon today which was actually more expensive than my actual "light" order. $60 total and it's safe to say I won't be back!
