The food here is amazing but I received really poor service when I went. I ordered the HAT Benedict (ham, avocado and tomato) and it was delicious and filling. It is a tad pricey, so I definitely cant eat here all the time but it is nice for a treat. However, my waitresses seemed like she hated me. She barely spoke to us, (when it was time to order she just came to our table with a pen and paper and stared at us) - also, she never refilled our waters even though they were empty half way through our meal and I had to ask another server for a box and our check because the waitress was no where to be found. BACK STORY: Once i was working at this totally frou frou interior design place and my boss and myself were walking these two wonderful British ladies ladies through one of the showrooms and we hear from behind us, "That is an ENORMOUS COCK." I loved this place from the moment I came here. It is a great cafe with all the old school character of original cafe style. The inside has a large round bar with round twisting seats. There is a small room with tables and I nice outside seating arrangement. The roost is decorated with painted roosters on the windows. The breakfast has huge tasty portions. The hollandaise sauce is rich! They serve it over a bunch of dishes. The new corned beef is amazing! Eggs benedict is awesome. Omelettes are huge. The service is really good. This is my second review here. 3 stars for the chicken fried steak and 2 eggs which my sister and I shared. It was a little salty and thick for my liking but my sister didn't think so. Saltiness is subjective, obviously. We ordered a side of pricey bacon. $4.99 for 4 or 5 pieces which were unevenly cooked. Some were beyond crisp, one was still jiggly. Country potato had a good flavor, I just didn't care for the type of potato they used. 4 stars for our server. She was attentive. We were seated in a large room today. 2 stars for the counter lady with the tattoo who told me to let her know when my party is all there. I'm thinking cool, she'll get me a table once I tell her. After I did that she busied herself getting orders and drinks from people in the patio. An older lady asked if I needed help and I sorta dismissed her (sorry) because I thought tattoo lady iss helping us get a table. Good thing 4-star large room lady who was wearing plaid shirt came and told us there are tables in the large room. Was the tattoo lady keeping us there so she can sit us in her section in the patio but plaid shirt lady came and swiped us. Was really looking forward to trying this place for the first time. Had heard such great things from fellow students and friends. Here's our experience breakdown: Customer service: The best! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly from the moment we walked into the door. Food: I got the BAT Benedict with a potato pancake and my boyfriend got the corn beef hash with eggs and hash browns. While my Benedict was pretty good it didn't match the hype. The hollandaise sauce was a little to meh for me. Thought a place like this would have a more flavorful sauce. The bacon and muffin were cooked perfect and the potato pancake was super yummy, but again just didn't fully live up to the hype. My boyfriend said the corn beef was perfectly cooked and tasty. His main complains were the portion size and price. He didn't feel like the quality or quantity justified the price. He was really looking forward to a big helping of hash that morning and the portion just didn't deliver. Again, just didn't live up to the hype. I really liked the atmosphere of the place and again the customer service was amazing, but not what we expected food wise. Would I go again.. Eh... Maybe if a group of friends were already going. We've been coming to the Roost for about a year now and absolutely love the food and the staff. Last week I tried the burger basket special for 9.99, I was completely blown away!!! One of the best burgers I've ever had. So I came home and bragged to my wife ( a burger aficionado in her own right) so she had to see if I was right. Today we went back, the look on the wife's face after that first bite was priceless! She's hooked I doubt she'll ever order anything else from their menu. Great job guys! Everytime my husband and I are in Chico we have to eat here before leaving. This place is so unique and interesting. I have never had a bad service yet. My husband and I ate breakfast for the first time at The Roost on Park Avenue in Chico this morning. They have outdoor seating, indoor counter seating, and an indoor dining room, so there is plenty of choice on where you want to sit. There are about 8 tables in the inside dining room, 8 stools at the indoor counter, then 8-10 tables out in front under umbrellas. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. They have an extensive menu with lots of yummy breakfast and lunch choices. They certainly have got numerous gourmet choices, like asparagus omelette and hashed corned beef dishes, but we went for eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, pancake, etc. The meal was absolutely delicious and just the right amount of food. Everything on our plates was cooked perfectly. The syrup was yummy and in a convenient pouring jar, which was nice. They have espresso coffee, cappuccino, and other offerings besides their regular cups of coffee. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering what we were getting compared to other breakfast places in Chico. My husband is always watching the budget and he was pleased with the pricing, which is good. We really loved the atmosphere. There were cool pictures on the wall that were pertinent to a breakfast, chicken, rooster type of place, yet they were tasteful and fun to see. Red checkered table clothes, nice and cool temperature, which was especially nice on a hotter than heck day in Chico. The smells were very nice and the place appeared clean. The music was oldies and the other people dining there were a nice crowd. We will definitely begin to go to The Roost regularly from now on, since it is close to our home in Chico. Their menu was unique but attractive, and prices were out of control. Hey, i'm from the city, so getting away from a great tasting brunch for less than 50 bucks blew my mind. I'd have to say if i were judging purely on service the roost would get 2 stars, the server was quite slow, and it wasn't that busy. She also decided to take her friend's orders before us even though they sat down 8-10 minutes after we did. This review is based on 2 main factors: Not eco friendly and not great food. What bothered me the most about this restaurant is the sheer amount of avoidable waste they are using to serve food table-side. Examples: - They served cold drinks in disposable plastic cups with plastic straws. Why not use a real glass? Or even a reusable plastic glass like they serve water in? - Extra tortillas served in tinfoil rather than a reusable tortilla warmer - Take-away boxes are made of STYROFOAM! For the food, I was equally unimpressed. Ordered the Huevos Rancheros and thought it was the worst version of huevos rancheros I've ever had. 2 raw corn tortillas, an over easy egg and a pool of some weird red sauce (like a pureed unflavorful enchilada sauce). There was no salsa, no beans, no cheese, no avocado, no nothing to make this into a respectable huevos rancheros dish. I hate writing a review for a restaurant without eating the food, but I left without even an acknowledgement that I even existed. I walked in, asked where I could sit. Hurried waitress looked like she was going on break said sit anywhere. I sat in a corner and waited. I watched another waitress seat a customer after me and give him a menu. She took his order immediately and served him coffee. I didnt even get the menu or acknowledgement. I sat and waited... and waited... for a solid 10 minutes. I didn't want to reach over the counter for the menu but I did. I had the menu in my hand for 5 minutes looking around to have some kind of notion that theyll get to me. No such notion was made. I ended up leaving and going to cafe coda where my order was taken within 5 minutes and I got my meal within 10 minutes. It's not the part of getting ignored that really annoyed me, it's the fact that someone who came after me got served before I did. I don't want to cry discrimination but it really looked that way. The lady that owns this place though, she scolded us for the fact that the rest of our party (the other 2) werent there yet. I apologized for not knowing their policy but reassured her that they were about two minutes away, which they were, I had just talked to them. After being seating and giving our drink orders, we were visited by two women, at two different times, aside from our waitress (who was really nice). The first said simply, "oh, we usually dont sit people unless they are all here." Thats fine, Im sorry...wont happen again. The second woman, the owner, I believe...asked us to leave the table for a foursome who was there! Pissed us off enough to leave money for our drinks and go somewhere else. Friends were right around the corner! Roost, please get back into the service side of breakfast. Perhaps you have too many college students leaving you with empty chairs, I understand. But at the point where we have been seated and asked what we want to drink? Thats when YOU fucked up. Dont ask people who chose YOUR restaurant out of many options to get up and leave, you were completely rude about it too. Its pretty surprising what Yelp and word of mouth will do to your clientele. After a 4.5 mi run, I came here craving brunch food on a Sunday morning. I was thrilled to know that there was no wait for a table outside on the patio. BUT I was quickly annoyed by (a) flies flying everywhere around our food, (b) the noise level from the chatter and traffic outside; this made it difficult to hear H and E sitting across the table from me. (c) The heat became overwhelming after noon time, since the sun began to beat down on us, even though there was umbrella cover above our table on the patio. If I come back, I'll choose indoor seating. I liked the potato cake and crispy, buttered wheat toast, but the Henry XIV omelet, containing Swiss cheese and avocado, was nothing to write home about. In fact, the avocado was already browning by the time I got my order. My water was refilled in a timely manner though, and our waitress was friendly, so service was pretty decent that day. Pro tips: 1. They've got a private parking lot outside. 2. There's a wire fence where you can also lock up your bike. 3. Sit indoors to avoid flies, noise, and heat. read more

Decor in here was awesome. My mother would have loved to just sit and look at all the fun chicken items around the walls. The place is relatively small, so you might have to wait a bit if its busy. We came around 9:00 am on a Saturday and waited about 5 minutes for them to clear a table inside for us. Though there was room on the patio when we arrived, when we left the patio and inside was full. Food was delicious. Service was a bit slow, I think they could do for another person on wait staff and/or more kitchen space. I had the farmer Dans omelette and my wife had the Johnny Cakes. Omelette was good, but I highly recommend the Johnny cakes, skip the ranchero style (one of our friends got that...they thought it was better without the sauce). read more
