    Chili and Cheese Coney
    Melissa G.

This Cincinnati staple is a must during the summer months. It tends to be a place I always forget about but once there, I wish I came more often. Today's order included their classic chili and cheese coney, single cheeseburger and a side of cheese fries. I have to say the coney was such a refreshing break from the local standard of Skyline or Gold Star. There's something about the classic coney that just hits different. It was absolutely delicious! My daughter liked her cheeseburger and was pretty happy that it beat her McDonald's standards lol. Next time I'm pretty sure she will bump up to the double. I loved the flavor of the fries. Not quite sure what they used to season them outside of salt but they were really good and the cheese was melted but not melted to death. The service was super fast despite how busy they were. I'm pretty sure it took less than 5 minutes for our name to be called and boom, we were ready to go. The outside seating area was a nice break from the heat, under the cover of the trees. It was definitely cooler than trying to sit on their inside covered patio area. We will be back before the season comes to an end. Be sure to check this place out if you haven't already.

A little piece of 1950's Americana preserved as much as possible. The root beer stand opened in 1957 as a seasonal roadside stand serving hot dogs, burgers and their now famous root beer. The restaurant still has kept its charm even through an expansion. There is "inside" dining available as well as an outdoor dining area. The indoor dining has a cover but no AC. The prices are very reasonable and the service quick. Nothing like a foot long and a root beer to celebrate the warm weather months.

Foot long hot dog, chili cheese fries, small root beer. #yum #ReviewsByRL

Was in town for an event (4.26.25) and a quick Yelp search told me the Root Beer Stand was close to my hotel. So I had to check it out, especially since I frequent an old school hot dog stand at home that I love. This place is cute. Plenty of parking. You go in and order at a window. There is casual seating inside, kind of the atmosphere of a garage/ diner, and plenty of picnic tables in a nice grassy area out back. Food pick up is around the side at another window. They don't have diet root beer, but I really like homemade root beer and wanted to try it, so I got a small regular. I ordered a foot long hot dog and chili cheese fries. I got everything to go. (My hotel was less than 10 min away). I also got a Root Beer Stand sticker for $2. The total for all came to just under $15. The root beer was good, but too sweet for me since I'm normally a diet drinker. Normal soda drinkers should like it. The foot long hot dog was indeed a biggie. Not thick, but definitely the length of two regular hot dogs. The chili cheese fries were still hot back at my hotel. The cheese was melted but it was shredded cheese. I think I was picturing more liquid cheese on them. And the chili was a little sparse and also thick .. or maybe just soaked into my fries? (See pics) I was hoping to put some of the chili & cheese from the fries onto my hot dog, and I was able to do that with a tiny bit of the cheese, but not with any chili. I did eat everything. They alao have ice cream, flats etc, but I only had the regular root beer. #yum #ReviewsByRL

The cutest little spot! This place is seasonal and I've heard such good things and wanted to try a Cincy beloved! Their root beer floats were so nostalgic and my only caveat is I wished they had some vegetarian options for their burgers. Overall our service was fantastic and depending on what time you go be prepared to wait

It had been many years since we had been to the Root Beer Stand so it was high time to come back. It had grown a fair amount since our last visit which was great to see. The place was really busy but they really are streamlined well and there was not a long wait time. There is a bit of indoor seating but a vast majority of the seating is at picnic tables outside around the area. Everything looked great all around the grounds although you must remember you are outside and there are a fair amount of bees around so beware of that. I had a footlong chili dog and fries which were excellent especially the chili dog. Also had to have a root beer float which was legendary as usual as their locally sourced root beer really is delicious. This is definitely an awesome place to go on a summer day for sure and it gets my highest recommendation.

The good part - great to take kids to, small business, well established. Has 10% military discount. The average part - the food is average, not the draw, the root beer is. Get a gallon is the best deal. Merch is well thought out and art is quite good. The bad part - the parking is horrible. You have to circle the place or park across the street. The outdoor tables have bees that hang around sometimes. The outdoor tables have a design that isn't conducive to sitting a drink on. Yeah, an experience, but pretty much one and done.

    Wise words.

Food was good: Root Beer was real which is rare to find in a restaurant. Hot dogs were great. The Tommy had everything on it and hit every craving all at once. Pizza burger tasted like a pizza in the shape of a burger. Fries were nice and fresh. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Service was quick and friendly. Seating inside was spacious and outside was a good spot to enjoy nice weather.

Cute 50s themed seasonal hamburger spot Very family friendly with a playground and seating outback, as well as indoor seating for those who do not want to be in the elements Food is solid, but it is your basic hotdog's hamburgers, french fries and popcorn. They do have ice cream milkshakes root beer and local beers. Parking is very limited and can get extremely packed, especially on the busy road that this restaurant is on Most of the employees are high school in college students, but they are quick prompt and friendly

I'd been wanting to try out this spot for quite some time now but never really had the time. There are so many great places to try around the greater Cincinnati area that it's tough to choose where to go next. But I was able to convince some coworkers to come along with me after a work seminar nearby. Was it as good as I expected it to be? Yes, definitely! The place itself looks like a classic, nostalgic diner you'd find in Galtinburg or somewhere like that. They're only open from Memorial Day through Labor Day so it's very seasonal. Seating is pretty limited and they seem to be busy all the time. The menu is all about classic diner options like burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, milkshakes, fries, and of course their house-made root beer. They also have a limited beer and hard seltzer menu. Everything on their menu is nicely priced too. After checking out the menu for a bit, I went with a cheeseburger (topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions), a side of fries, and a root beer. One of my coworkers did the same, and my other coworkers opted for a footlong chili cheese dog instead of a cheeseburger. Even though they were very busy, both with dine-ins and carryout, we didn't wait very long at all before everything was ready. Their root beer was some of the best I've had in a while and I do like some good root beer. My burger and fries were really good too. The service was excellent and our server was very friendly and attentive. Bummer that this place is only open seasonally because I think it'd be great to stop by here when it cools down in October. Still, I could definitely see stopping by again, but maybe earlier in the season when it isn't 95+ degrees outside. They do have indoor seating but only fans and no AC to keep you cool. Even without that, it's a great little spot.

    No thank you

No thank you. Regular hot dogs, cheese is cold which makes the chili dog cold and the fries were disgusting. My root beer float however was AMAZING! The staff were also friendly! You can tell it's a neighborhood staple that's been around for a while. The atmosphere is perfect however the food and bathroom could use a revamp.

It's a classic for a reason! The place was hopping. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available, and they've done a nice job behind the restaurant setting up some good picnic tables in the shade, plus adding a shelterhouse, cornhole, and a small playground. The only downside to the outside is the bees have clearly figured out where the good root beer is and immediately came over to see what they could get from us. We opted for cheeseburgers, the Chattanooga Cheeseburger (addition of bbq pulled pork), fries, root beer floats, and root beer. They also offer coneys, though we didn't try them on this visit. While they do have parking located around the building, it does fill up. They also offer some cute merchandise - shirts, stickers, hats, and more. Service was friendly and efficient.

Nostalgia galore consume you when coming to the Root Beer Stand. When you think of Americana you'll find it here. A once small roadside stand, has become a behemoth of an attraction. From mugs and shirts communicating the greatness of the establishment which was established in 1957. They even have hats. But this is a restaurant isn't it so let's dive into that. They have all the hot dog fixings of any skyline chili, you can get, three ways, spaghetti on your dog and all the other good stuff in her Cincy, dogs and chili can concoct. Burgers too and yes root beer and root beer floats. The floats are so good and also their dogs and everything is reasonably priced. They have some good desert options too (ice cream) and they have done a great job making lots of searing on the property in the shade as well, corn hole board and a play ground round out all that this great location has to offer. You'll love the Root Beer Stand, it's a delight.

Ask the Community - The Root Beer Stand

Does the root beer have caffeine in it?

Most if not all root beer does not contain caffeine. Just like actual beer does not contain any. So the answer should be NO, there is not any caffeine in the root beer.

What brand root beer is served? Is it still A&W?

    They make it in house

I love the cookie dough flavor--it is absolutely delicious, and the vegan strawberry is amazing too! Nothing there tastes artificial; everything tastes so fresh and real. The strawberry even has real pieces of strawberries in it, which makes it SO good! They're also in such a cute location where you can walk around, and there's a really nice park nearby if you want to take the kiddos. Such a fun spot for an ice cream day!

Great flavors! Across from the Summit Park playground!…read more Heading to the Summit Park playground in Blue Ash, OH, on a hot sunny day, (May 2026), we were so happy to find an ice cream shop. Even happier to find great flavors. And happier still for tasty vegan options! We had nicely minty not-green Mountain Mint in a cone, and tasty sweet lemon sorbet in a cup. And a perfectly wonderful cone of vegan mildly-coconut chip ice cream. It was all so good, we came back on a subsequent evening! Another cone of the vegan coconut chip. A cup of lightly-floral lavender vegan ice cream. And a cookies & cream cone. Street-parking right out front is time-limited for takeout. There's longer parking up and down both sides of Summit Parkway. And there's a park8n* lit and more street parking a block away on Summit Place. When you're not walking across the street to the Summit Playground, there's a handful of tables out front, and when 5hose were full, no-one minded that we sat in front if the bar next door. The flavors were all good, and the staff was friendly even at closing time :-).
