I've had the pleasure of dining at The Ruxton in Baltimore twice - once on their opening night and again a few weeks later. It's not often I rate a place a perfect score, but The Ruxton truly deserves it. Staff and Service: The highlight of The Ruxton is undeniably its staff. Both of my visits featured different wait staff, each one leaving a lasting impression with their exceptional service. While I regret not recalling the name of our first waitress, Wendy, who served us during our second visit, was just as remarkable. The staff's professionalism and attentiveness add a layer of perfection to the dining experience. Ambiance: The decor and ambiance of The Ruxton are top-notch, fostering a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere. The clientele is as diverse as the staff, with almost everyone dressed to impress. It's a place where the ambiance matches the quality of the dining experience, making every visit memorable. Food and Drinks: The drink menu at The Ruxton is on par with the best speakeasy/cocktail bars, featuring a variety of beautifully crafted drinks. We tried the Red Daisy, Cheeky Devil, Golden Goose, and Mont Blanc - each drink was a hit, with the Red Daisy stealing the spotlight for me. Our appetizer, the Crudo Tasting, was flawless. As for the main dishes, across two dinners, we enjoyed the Rib Cap (twice), the 12oz Gold Label SRF ribeye, and the Chilean Sea Bass, accompanied by Truffled Hasselback Potatoes, Roasted Broccoli, and Roasted Mushrooms. The Rib Cap was a standout, unparalleled in taste and preparation, and unlike anything else available in the area. The sear on the steaks was perfect, the crust made it look as though the steak was deep fried in peppercorns (although, it obviously wasn't). While the SRF ribeye was expertly prepared, it's worth noting it's trimmed differently from traditional ribeyes, resembling more of a filet mignon. Dessert: The butter cake was an experience in itself. OMFG, it is without question the best dessert my wife and I have had at a restaurant in the area, PERIOD. Our second visit was primarily motivated by our craving for this dessert and the drinks, but we couldn't resist ordering the rib cap again. The butter cake is so exceptional that we found ourselves visiting The Ruxton shortly after trying a different restaurant's version of the cake, which only made us crave The Ruxton's even more. Critiques: In the spirit of fairness, I have a couple of minor critiques. On opening night, we were seated in the back room, where the attentive service occasionally felt too watchful, maybe because of the managers' presence. Also, there was a moment of confusion with the SRF ribeye's presentation, which the manager addressed but could have explained more thoroughly. Final Thoughts: The Ruxton has quickly become a staple for my wife and me, promising to be a go-to for exceptional dining experiences. We arrived on a Friday evening at 6:45 pm and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. Our main courses didn't arrive until after 8 pm, which was disappointing. The waiter assigned to us was in training, with a trainer assisting, but the service still fell short. The waiter was missing in action for most of the night, and I had to ask other staff to locate him--twice. To make matters worse, the trainer asked if the trainee had inquired about allergies, which he hadn't. This was concerning, as attention to such details is crucial. We've dined here before, and our previous visit was fantastic, with quick service and a phenomenal waitress. Unfortunately, last night was a definite letdown. One of the items I ordered never showed. The extra napkin requests never appeared until I had to flag someone down. There were a number of issues. Additionally, the noise level was insane The only saving grace was the quality of the food, which was excellent--hence the 3-star rating. For a $350 bill, we expected much better service. To make things worse, I informed the restaurant about our anniversary when making the reservation. Most establishments would acknowledge this with a small complimentary dessert or celebratory toast. Instead, we only received a Ruxton card, which felt impersonal and underwhelming. It was extremely busy and loud, and the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed. A suggestion: assigning waiters to specific sections per row instead of having them scattered all over the place could help improve the efficiency and quality of service. An Unforgettable Anniversary Dinner My boyfriend and I celebrated our second anniversary at Ruxton, and it was truly one of the best anniversary dinners we've ever had. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. JR at the front was phenomenal. somehow he knew it was our anniversary and set us up with a beautiful table decorated with rose petals and a handwritten happy anniversary card. It was such a sweet, thoughtful touch that made the night feel extra special right from the start. He then paired us with Rubi as our server, and she made the whole evening even better. She was attentive, warm, and genuinely kind, which elevated the entire dinner. Food-wise, we couldn't have asked for better. We started with the Rockefeller oysters which were a 10/10, as always, and something I'd recommend to anyone. For our mains, we got the cowboy ribeye, which was phenomenal, and at Rubi's recommendation we also tried the lamb chops, which were perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. Our asparagus side came over a rich, flavorful sauce that tied everything together beautifully. We finished with cake and ice cream for dessert, the perfect ending to the meal. I had the worst experience at this place on Valentine's Day. My friends and I were having a quiet meal and drinks, and while the restaurant was closed, we were still customers and had every right to be treated with respect until we left. When we asked for glasses for the bottled water we already purchased there, the bartender and server outright denied us, acting incredibly entitled and rude. Instead of offering glasses, they became aggressive, and it only escalated when they engaged, and a shouting match ensued. The staff completely failed to deescalate the situation and made us feel completely unwelcome. I understand the place was closed, but the way they handled it was unprofessional and unnecessary. It's sad that they chose to treat paying customers so poorly. Will not be returning. read more

I've gone to various high-end resturants and yet, The Ruxton was unlike anything else I've experienced. Each item I had on the menu was simply divine, especially the lobster, and the visual aesthetic was incredibly classy yet cozy thanks to the artwork, lighting, and furniture. And most of all, the service was some of the best I've ever had at a resturant. Last saturday when I went, a wonderful server named Bria was incredible. She was polite, very approachable, funny, and also very helpful whenever I had any questions about the menu or about the establishment.
