This is the worst bar I have ever been to. Came in for a drink during my walk on the riverwalk. Drink are horrible, bartenders are impersonal and robotic, management, I believe his name was Tim, was miserable and rude. If you like 12$ juice and a horrible experience then the sail is perfect for you! And if you want some water stop by they have warm water bottles for $3! Not to mention there was a couple at the bar, older couple drinking a draft beer and the lady a corona. They had maybe 4 or 5 rounds each and I couldn't help but notice they had a 15$ tab!!! Please tell me how my fiancé and I can have 8 drinks here and get a $15 tab!! The couple places $50 in the book and said keep the change. I am not sure how business works here but our bartender Sara didn't give us the same discount. Either the staff doesn't make enough money that they feel the need to steal from the company, or there is a discount program that gives guests 80% off that I want to be apart of!! With the addition of Big Ray's Fish Camp offering a great selection of seafood items and more, the lure of dining here alone is enough to make this a great spot to stop at and gather with friends. The feeling is very laid back and casual, even on Wednesday night's when competitive rounds of trivia are in play. It is very dog-friendly but there is plenty of space between tables surrounding the bar so even those not interested in encounters with other people's pets need not fear. The Sail Pavilion is a great place to bring out of town guests so they can get the whole casual, hanging out in Florida next to the water vibe. The tables are placed all around the center bar. Even though the restaurant is entirely outside, they do have overhead air units blowing cool air downwards. That, combined with the breeze from the bay, made for a very comfortable temperature even in the middle of summer. Service was good - the waiter was on the ball and very friendly. My sandwich was just okay. I thought the chicken in my chicken sandwich was small, bland, and dry. For $12, I expected better than that - and the bag of plain potato chips that accompanied it. The peach tea cocktail I had, however, was delicious. With so many great restaurants in the area, I think next time I'll eat elsewhere, and go there just for cocktails. read more

Wow!! This place has changed again...Seems all great bartenders are gone. The female bartender is fabulous!!! But the majority are absolutely rude and lack any type of manners. Went there Friday night and they were busy which is a "good thing" I would think-but not for male bartender.. I work in a service industry so I get it but I wasn't rude to him therefore I would expect the same.... No greeting AT ALL! This is a great place to go and grab a drink if you're in downtown Tampa on a nice afternoon. It is a casual atmosphere, with music playing, outside eating or eating in the pavilion. We tried the calamari and got a couple of Cuban sandwiches and everything was really delicious! The staff was very attentive and made sure our beers were cold. Great view of the river and downtown Tampa. Next time we are downtown for any reason we will definitely hit this place again because the menu has a lot of selections on it that I think are worth trying. Also this spot is really close to the river walk. It is nice to start or stop your walk here. Love the food and for "bar food" I think it is one of the best. This is a great meet up spot for finding your friends! Just say "meet me at The Sail" instead of walking around trying to figure out where they are! I don't know if I am writing this review in the appropriate place. We sat at the Sail but judging from the website we ate Big Ray's Fish Camp. I can't find this location on their yelp so here ya go. This was a great little place we stumbled upon on a Saturday walk. It was a hurricane weekend so people were scarce when we first arrived but half way through our food it really picked up. Our server was great she was very polite. My party had 4 not a large group but our food took a while to come out. The view is amazing so I was totally fine with it. We watched the area come alive. We all thought the food was good nothing really to write home about. The view is great so I wouldn't mind giving the place another try to find some great food. read more

Great view and divine palomas. The joint was jumping at noon on a Saturday, and I waited about 15 minutes. My server was busy but very nice and didn't rush me. I stopped here while walking the Riverwalk, so I don't know about parking. I was still full from breakfast, so I didn't order food but the menu looked amazing. Now, back to the palomas-nicely mixed with grapefruit salt along the rim-as pretty as it is tasty. I can't wait to go back! In the heart of the river walk, the sail is a outdoor spot where you can grab a drink and a bite along the Tampa riverwalk while also catching some vitamin D. Stopped in on a Sunday morning while strolling the Riverwalk with my niece. I had been dying to try this place for a while now because of Instagram pics floating all over the place. Pretty decent menu and some yummy cocktails to enjoy by the water. Wasn't too crazy about the staff though. When I walked up, I asked if they were open and the guy behind the counter said, "Not till 11!" ....it was 11:10. So when another person behind the bar realized they were indeed open, we were encouraged to seat ourselves. Kinda taken back when I asked the waitress what juice they had (and proceeded to point at my 15mo old niece and her tiny sippy cup) and she came out with this massive cup of orange juice that I think I paid $8 for. It doesn't appear the wait staff was too keen or attentive to their customers. They were more talkative to people who approached the bar that they personally knew than who would end up tipping them. Menu is extremely limited so it took a while to figure out what I truly wanted. Settled on calamari and it was only ok. It was salty. My kids ordered the wings. I got a rum runner which was delicious but had negligible alcohol content. I love The Sail. I walk by everyday and my dog tries to drag me in because he gets treats. The service is awesome. The people watching is the BEST here because you have locals but you also have the folks in Tampa for the day as well as people from all over the country at the convention center. The ONLY reason I give it a four is because they use garbage margarita mix which makes my tummy sad, don't have a great liquor selection, and the food is lots of fried and unhealthy things. The signature cocktails like the Riverwalk (rum) Runner and Seafoam are $10 and are strong and well worth it. Drafts are too expensive. Buckets of beer seem like a better deal if you want beer. Food comes from the kitchen in the Convention Center so be prepared to wait. It's not stellar, but, well, order if you HAVE to. You MIGHT be able to pay park in the few spots next to the Pavilion but a better option is free parking at the west lot of Channelside. If you park near the Pavilion, remember to use the Park Mobile app. We bring our kid(s) here all the time so the place is family friendly and great for sunsets. Service can be slow as there are LOT'S of tables so be prepared to walk up to the bar and order. Definitely worth a try. read more

This outdoor bar by the water is so inviting. Situated between Harbour Island and downtown Marriott and the Convention Center, it's perfect for both locals and tourists to walk/bike over for a relaxing time sipping drinks, taking in the views after meetings or before hopping on the water taxi just steps away - weather permitting of course; Sail is exclusively an outdoor bar without any enclosed areas. The most shelter is a roof over the bar. There is plenty of seating, cocktail tables, and umbrella patio tables surrounding the covered bar and on the concrete levels leading to the water. The empty tables were dirty and no one ever came to our table, so you will need to bus your own table and walk to the bar for drinks. My husband said he's always had a server visit his table, so it could be that their service diminishes on busier nights. A full bar including some fun slushy drinks are served along with a full menu. We only came for drinks, but the trays of food coming from the neighboring Marriott looked appetizing. You can't miss the lure of this cute little bar on a nice day. Sail Pavilion is a cool outdoor establishment. I one thing that is challenging, however, is the parking. I usually walk here from Harbor Island or the Riverwalk, however, and this isn't a problem. The SP is a 360 degree outdoor bar/food venue adjacent to the Tampa Convention Center on the water. There are covered areas surrounding the bar in addition to some tables and there are also tables on the fringe on the descending steps that lead to the water and connecting Riverwalk. The establishment itself and the bathrooms are clean. Sail Pavilion is dog friendly and a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy the awesome Tampa weather with a nice view. What I really love is the live music entertainment that plays here. Once I saw a percussionist group perform island style music with steel drums. That was pretty fab. The live music enhances the experience of being within view of the water. It is my understanding that they now serve food at SP beginning at 2pm on weekdays and 11am on Saturdays and Sundays. I have never eaten here so I cannot vouch for the food but the drinks are awesome. I have been to SP when there has been a food truck rally event and that was neat. The second Friday of each month food trucks congregate at Sail Pavilion for business. I would definitely check this place out if you are looking for a relaxing and unique place to kick back in downtown Tampa and enjoy some fresh air. read more

On Friday night they had a live band. I noticed a ton of folks with their dogs, and even some kids playing on the grassy area nearby. We parked in the Harbour Island parking garage which is about a two-minute walk to the pavilion. Nice little hang out spot in the middle of downtown Tampa. I forget about this perfect little spot surrounded by the water where you can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine when it's not summer time. It's next to the Tampa Convention Center, and it is connected to the Tampa River walk. You can bring your dog here too, and that's always a bonus. Grab a beer, or a mixed drink, or a wine, and just chill out, and be happy. That's all there is to the place, plain and simple good time. There's bar food, and there are food trucks. Stop by from hanging out downtown, park your boat, stop by from your bike ride, whatever you may choose. There are also water bikes, and boats you can rent in the back by the water. Sail Pavilion has a great view in a very popular spot right on the bay near Channelside. There are two bar where you can order drinks and there are private bathrooms located nearby. Sail Pavilion is basically at the end (or beginning) of the Riverwalk and they can provide you with the appropriate drink receptacle if you want to wander down that way. Also located right next to the Convention Center and within walking distance to Amalie Arena. Woes are parking costs, drink costs and sometimes the crowd. I usually park in the Jackson's garage which is $5 per hour (which can get pricey) but you can validate your parking for two hours at Jackson's, American Social or Starbucks. Save yourself $10 and get the cheapest Starbucks drink if you are heading to Sail. They also have Coast bikes nearby if you're from the area. Drinks are pretty pricey and they don't have many specials. Crowds can get hefty if there's a game or concert at Amalie Arena and also during special events nearby. Overall, worth a visit if you love waterfront views, are waiting on a boat ride out from the docks or are just looking for a drink in the area. read more

Rating based largely on the lack of service. Sail is a cool place! But what good is it if you can't find a server or catch the attention of a bartender? I find myself waiting for service for majority of my visits to SAIL and now try and avoid altogether. I've been coming here for years and my experience is largely lackluster. This little round bar is right next to the convention center and it is a wonderful place to stop and have a drink. It is primarily an outdoor bar with a lot of seating on the patio around the bar and down to the water. They also have docks so boaters can dock and stop as well. They last time I was here there was not a rental boat business at the docks, but now there is so that is another thing to keep in mind. This is really just a bar, I don't think they have food but I even if they did, I would not expect a lot as there is no kitchen. However, food trucks are often parked in the small lot between the convention center and the bar so that is a bonus. If you come by car, parking is iffy. If you get a spot in the small lot you are lucky, if not, park in one of the nearby garages, or the Jackson's garage across the small bridge. Parking at Jackson's is pricey though ($1 a half hour) There are also clean restrooms (very important) and they have happy hour deals and also allow dogs. With the new riverwalk, I am sure they are a lot busier than they used to be. Also, this bar is within walking distance of the arena so it is a good place to stop for a drink before or after a hockey game or concert. read more

The Sail Pavilion is your typical view bar. You come here for drinks and to see a pretty sunset, but you don't rely on the food to make your stay worthwhile. It's your ordinary bar food. We ordered burgers and they were just very decent. Our waitress Syndee was great. Officiant and literally running back and fourth for her tables. Never missed a beat! We actually came at a good time.. around 11AM. Almost all of the outdoor tables were open, but by noon they were all scooped up. And for whatever reason the bugs are pretty heavy here! It can be quite annoying at times. The orange crush we ordered was very good and fairly strong. We stuck to beers afterwards. $7 for drafts, not too bad. Again, this is a great spot to catch a drink, people watch, or catch a sunset. Other than that there is not much pizzazz. read more

Just went today for the first time. Ordered the conch fritters , grouper sandwich and Parmesan garlic fries. I can honestly say the food was better than expected 10/10 delish!!! Unfortunately .... when ordering an alcoholic drink , actually a rum runner it was the absolute worst. All juice , unfortunately if I wanted a juice cocktail I would have ordered that. I do not prefer super strong drinks either , but this was JUICE. Unfortunately i don't think I'd order a mixed drink from there if we go back ever again... The Sail Pavilion is a wonderful place to meet up with friends and have a drink while taking in the beauty of Tampa Bay, especially on one of Tampa's many beautiful days. There are quite a few tables, but given the intensity of the Tampa sun, it is better to find one with an umbrella, especially if you plan to stay awhile. Although the views are incredible, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Even when seated at a table, it is better to go up to the bar to order drinks because service is infrequent and inconsistent. Knowing this, I might hesitate to order food here. All of this said, if you are looking for a beautiful location to catch up with friends and enjoy the great outdoors, The Sail Pavilion is a solid choice. read more

Disgusted!!! We go to the sail all the time, it has changed names. We were at a tournament at the convention center and had a break so we walked down to get a snack. We were told it was a 15 minutes wait that the kitchen was backed up and that if we could find seats at the bar we could sit there, if not then we would need to wait and we were not allowed to sit at the tables next to the bar. So much for "have a seat, kitchen is backed up but let get you some drinks"...that could have happened but it did not and we left....because WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SIT DOWN.....unless we could sit at the bar. Way To Lose Money! And it was pretty much empty-so many open tables. We would have been happy To order some food and wait and have drinks. SO SAD-was such a fun atmosphere, great place. Two stars - specifically for the location and super cool atmosphere right on the water! My sister and I were psyched to grab a drink here before a Lady Gaga (the queen) concert, catch a nice view. As soon as we sat down we ordered our drinks and nachos to split. Drinks took about 25 minutes to come out (they were average) and then 45 minutes (about) came out the sad SAD basket of what was our "nachos." About 1/3 of the chips were covered with liquid nacho "cheese" there was maybe a tbsp of pico de gallo and then a few black beans here and there. They were TERRIBLE it was devastating. How hard are nachos to make? So we then are like alright let's get out of here to get real drinks before the concert and our server (who never checked in on how our food was or if we wanted more drinks) takes another 30 minutes to get us our check.
