Pickle jars. They make their own pickles in house!

My dad and I had a short trip to Coalinga and asked a local where to eat. She enthusiastically recommended the salty pickle. We got parking directly in front of the cafe and went inside. We were greeted immediately and were able to look at the menu board and make our choices. I ordered the teriyaki burger and the waffle style sweet potato fries with chipotle ranch. I also got the raspberry lemonade. The food came quickly and was presented on aluminum trays which really added to the ambience. The fries were amazing. They had a thin, crisp coating and were a perfect blend of crunchy and soft. The chipotle ranch was spicy with a delicious smoky aftertaste. The burger was absolute perfection. Cooked well, juicy and flavorful. There was the sweet from the teriyaki sauce and pineapple, savory from the burger and onion and I asked for a substitution and they readily obliged. The only thing I wasn't really fond of was the raspberry lemonade. It wasn't really tart or sweet and tasted more like a fruit tea. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the sweet and sour of a true lemonade. Overall I really enjoyed my visit. The food was so good, and I enjoyed just sitting down and chatting with my dad after a long drive! If I ever come back to Coalinga I will be sure to stop by again!

If you have the time, come here instead of the typical stops like harris ranch or bravo farms. A slow paced chill restaurant in a slow paced little town, a little detour but great food! You'll be met by friendly staff and we saw quite a few locals eat here too. Chicken panini was ok, old boy Bleu burger flavor is great but definitely on the heavier side taste-wise. Mint cucumber lemonade was very concentrated in flavor and refreshing in hot weather. Best was the smoked beef dip, super smokey and had A LOT of meat. Au jus wasn't too salty either. On the side you're given the option of fries or fruit. Yes yes fruit is healthier but I'm willing to normally avoid fries to indulge in theirs! Lightly battered and crispy, not crunchy/tough coating like fast food and even some restaurants. And of course the pickle! One bite and we could tell it was homemade, not overly salty or sour but lightly and perfectly savory.

Quiet, out-of-the-way place in a quiet out-of-the-way town, but well worth the visit. We stopped for lunch on our road trip and ordered the Beef Dip sandwiches. Fries were well-seasoned, sandwich rolls were soft, and the beef wasn't just enough to be hearty but not heavy. And despite the name of the restaurant, nothing was overly salty -- not even the pickle. If I didn't fear the dreaded food coma while driving, I would have gladly indulged in one of their milkshakes.

We stopped through on a I-5 road trip. It's about a 15 minute drive from the interstate into Coalinga, but it's worth it. We arrived for a late lunch so it wasn't too busy. The food was great: bacon avocado burger and a fried chicken sandwich. The burger had lots of creamy guac on it. Fries were hot and crispy. One of the owners was helping us and was super welcoming. I was happy to eat at a local spot rather than the typical fast food on the freeway.

We had read that they accommodated a lot of RVs and people with U-Haul's, etc., so felt safe staying there for the night. Checked in about 9 PM. Everybody was super helpful. We have our cats with us so we were a little stressed out about how it was going to be, but they made sure that we were comfortable and we were in a really nice, large and clean room. I did think that the property is a little bit dated. They've done a good job with upkeep. The only issue I really had was that when I got out of my car there was a very strong animal smell. I asked at the front desk with that smell was, and they said that it was fertilizer that they applied to the fields that night. It was intense. We got up and we're back on the road by 5 AM. Unfortunately we did not get to try the restaurant although I heard that their steakhouse is excellent. Also, the pool looked really beautiful and clean.

Since it's right next to Interstate 5, it is very convenient for t9ad trips doen California. When I initially looked up the restaurant, I was a bit confused because online it seems that they have 4 different restaurants, and I wasn't sure where they are all located. But we just went and followed the signs that said "Restaurant." When we walked in the main entrance, the first thing we saw was the Country Store. To the right is the Horseshoe Lounge, the Prime Steakhouse in the middle, and Ranch Kitchen is towards the end. I think they also have a barbecue restaurant, but in a separate building. This place is massive. We decided to dine at Ranch Kitchen, where there was a huge group of people sitting right outside. I originally thought they were waiting for a table, but they were all just there for the restroom since this seems to be the place to be for pit stops down I-5. It was around 6 PM on Monday, and we got seated pretty quickly. We ordered the 14 oz. Choice Ribeye (medium rare) and the Country Fried Steak. Both included either baked potatoes or mashed potatoes (we opted for baked) and broccoli and carrots. The ribeye also included either a soup or salad, but given the current scare with the lettuce parasite, I opted for the clam chowder. They start you out with hot bread rolls and some salted whipped butter. The ribeye was very tender and delicious. It was well-seasoned and does not need steak sauce or anything. The country fried steak was quite tasty and comes with a massive amount of gravy, the way I like it. Overall, this was a great stop with great food. The service was amazing and the waiter was very attentive. This will definitely be a regular pit stop of ours.

It feels like a tucked-away garden you never want to leave. We came for lunch before wine tasting and had such a lovely experience. Kennedy was our server and she was great, warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. I ordered their Kale Caesar salad and it was not your typical Caesar but in the best way. It had raisins, red onion, crushed pistachios and the dressing had these subtle mustard seeds that gave it this bright, slightly tangy pop. It's their unique take on a Caesar and I'm officially obsessed. I'm definitely going to try to replicate this at home! My boyfriend ordered the soup and sandwich, and once I tried a spoonful of the soup, I instantly ordered a cup of my own. It was the corn and shishito pepper soup, velvety, a little smoky, and had just the right kick without being overly spicy. So, so good! Their menu changes seasonally, and since they are a true farm-to-table restaurant, the best way to see what's currently offered is to check their website. I've decided there are two kinds of Michelin restaurants. The first spends the entire evening…read morereminding you it's Michelin starred. The second quietly gets on with dinner and lets you figure it out yourself. Six Test Kitchen belongs firmly in the second camp. It's a tiny room. A dozen seats wrap around one open kitchen, so everyone sees everything. That should be chaos. It isn't. No shouting, no crashing pans, no television drama. Just cooks orbiting each other so smoothly I caught myself watching a man spoon sauce onto a plate with the focus you'd give a guitar solo. I have never been that focused on anything, including merging onto a highway. Everybody slows down in there without being told to. Nobody made a rule. Nobody held a meeting. Within a few minutes the whole room is whispering like it's a library with a tasting menu. Ask the staff about a wine and you're suddenly touring vineyards on the other side of the planet. Ask about an ingredient and you get a story instead of a speech. By dessert I figured they could explain quantum physics, provided somebody opened a Riesling first. I stopped trying to remember every course somewhere around the middle. That's a compliment. I just accepted that these people had a better plan for my evening than I did. A few dishes survived the amnesia anyway. The bluefin tuna proved just how hard it is to do something simple. The duck showed up in several forms, including a warm brioche stuffed with confit that weighed roughly nothing. I now believe butter has discovered antigravity. The duck liver ran so smooth and rich my brain filed it under dessert and refused to correct the error. The fifty-day aged Japanese wagyu arrived and politely ruined beef for the foreseeable future. People love telling you this stuff melts in your mouth. This one had better things to do. It raised my standards, thanked me for my time, and left every future steak to explain itself. Somewhere out there a perfectly respectable ribeye is about to get a deeply unfair comparison. None of that is its fault. With the final savory dish, the chef came over carrying a handcrafted wooden box and opened it the way you'd show off family photos. Inside sat knives forged from recycled ball bearings by a bladesmith in Athens, Georgia. He handed me one to use on the duck. I held it with the nervous respect reserved for museum artifacts and someone else's newborn, then spent ten minutes concentrating on not becoming a line item in the restaurant's insurance paperwork. The service deserves its own paragraph. My water glass never dropped below half full, and I didn't once catch anyone filling it. Empty plates vanished before I finished admiring them. Each course landed the moment I was ready for it, which I found mildly unsettling, since I didn't know I was ready. By the end, the whole night felt like a ballet where the audience gets fed. I left already negotiating with myself about how soon is too soon to go back.

Good Grief !! Where do I start?! At the beginning, Jim…read more.. OK, so I'm in Hanford, California doing a favor for a friend after a long day working in Los Angeles then driving 3 hours! My options??? Grabbing some snacks at the hotel or taking the spectacular advice of April and Naesha at the front desk of the Fairfield Marriott, my hotel for the night. They also said that the Steak Bites were fantastic. After a quick shower, I took the 5 minute ride to the restaurant. Independent building, fairly nondescript but classy enough. Easy access with plenty of parking. You enter in to a dark, classy Italian restaurant. A large , open dining room straight ahead, and a small (but really cute) bar to the left. I chose eating at the bar, and I'm happy I did. Raquel, the Bartender took care of me with humor, seriousness, smiles, and incredible recommendations. Ordered a nice Zin and started perusing the menu. The nightly "specials" menu looked great, but the regular menu nailed me. Before I could even begin to make decisions, their bread arrived at the table with a small bowl of marinara sauce. Maybe the best I've had... EVER! Raquel was literally describing the recipe after I raved. Should have asked for a copy! Guess I knew then that I was about to be thrilled! I ordered some of the steak bites for the ladies at the hotel, then proceeded, knowing I was about to overeat AND take a feast back with me. Always a Caesar Salad as a starter, asking for it not to be overly saturated and they nailed it. Just a personal preference and this is massively nit picky, but just a hint more anchovy paste. Raquel then steered me to Shrimp Avocado Crostini as an appetizer. It truly left me speechless, and that's virtually impossible (just ask my kids). The perfectly toasted Crostini's, thinly sliced, a smear of the avocado, then a spoonful of heaven! I mean the warm shrimp goulash, salsa, soup... heck, whatever it was, was pure perfection. Limited myself to 3 pieces, about 9 bites, and only consumed about 1/3. For my main course I opted for a chicken dish as I often do. I chose the Spicy Chicken Chipotle with Penne Pasta, Blackened Chicken, bell peppers, edamame, mango... Now as I'm already achieving some pressure on my belt, all just have a couple bites. OOPS!!! Yup, it was THAT good! And it came out hot, as it should, a thing many restaurants miss on. I was confused after my first bite because it was unnaturally sublime! I devoured it!!! Just left enough to add it to the bounty traveling back to the hotel. Truly some of the very best pasta I've had anywhere. So now I'm stuffed and she comes over and says a naughty word, DESSERT! Crème Brûlée Cheesecake sound ok? Sure, I reply. Light, fluffy, not overly sweet, luscious caramel sauce... two perfect bites and into a to go package. The food, 10/10 The Service, 10/10 (Thanks Raquel!) The Atmosphere 9/10 Don't know if I will ever get the opportunity to return, but if I do it would be my honor to have a chance at trying more of the beautiful menu. Bon A-petite' Cheers

Unfortunately, the service was very slow. I sat in the bar area during happy hour and waited over an hour for my food. While I understand happy hour can be busy, the restaurant didn't appear overly crowded, so the wait felt excessive. Communication from the staff about the delay would have made the experience much better. The food quality was the highlight of my visit, but the long wait and slow service made the overall experience disappointing. I hope they can improve their timing because our community could really use a great local dining option.
