This is a really ambitious menu and the folks in the kitchen are doing an amazing job! (retired chef here). We had mussel salad, cracklins, rabbit, bone marrow/escargot, Scotch egg and desserts (bread pudding and 'deconstructed' lemon merengue pie), plus cocktails and wine. Staff was both very friendly and very professional. The 'Greyhound 75' was the best original cocktail I've had in a while. The mussel salad really didn't need the peaches but was very good. The 'cracklins' were GREAT bar food and a totally 'out there' menu item for fine dining. The Scotch egg was only like the 'real thing' in appearance but delicious. I loved the rabbit. Others have called it dry but the excellent sauce was an asset. I think all farm raised rabbit tends to be dry, but the light panko breading is a great idea. Order it if you want to try rabbit! Escargot with bone marrow was the hit of the night! Could've eaten a double order. The desserts were really fabulous. So happy to find a place like this in Vancouver. I went on a Thursday with a friend. They had ONE server working the whole room. She let us know so we could adjust our expectations, but I don't know that I've ever had worse service. It took about fifteen minutes to get seated and there were three parties piled up awkwardly at the door. It was FREEZING. The waitress got our order wrong. We were in a hurry so we didn't bring it up, just wanted to get out. The rabbit was some of the most inedible food I've ever tried in my life. Coco Chanel famous stated "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off," and I felt like this after eating at The Sedgwick. What a disappointment between the bland demeanor of the hostess, inattentive service, and the overly complicated dishes that would have benefitted from a little "de-accessorizing." We entered through the bar entrance, but since I recognized it as the former Tommy O's location, I knew we could walk through to the other side. We passed the hostess as someone was coming out of the kitchen; a weird convergence that inspired stares from them. Felt like we'd done something wrong as there were no smiles or an "oopsie" comment. The hostess came up (same lady) and merely asked us if we'd like to eat on the restaurant or the bar side. No smile nor greeting; maybe it was a faux pas to come through from the bar? It was quite noisy on the restaurant side, so we chose to go back from whence we came. We were told we could chose where to sit, we chose and were given instructions on how to order. All very perfunctory and not a very inviting start. Seriously, we have to take out our phones, scan a code and look at a menu on our TINY SCREENS in a dimly-lit bar, and then WE have to fill out the order form like we're at a sushi shop and this is Covid 2020? Not only absurd, but very depersonalizing. The cocktail menu is a separate PDF, so you have to go back and download that separately. The waiter greeted us and took our drink order and when he came back we were ready to order. My boyfriend had driven 5 hours and spaced out on the instructions that we had to fill out our menu card, so the waiter reminded him. Fine, we got out the iphone to shine a light on the menu card, I joked it was like taking a multiple-choice test - be sure to fill in the correct bubble - and we set it at the edge of the table. We were at a table for four but had chosen to be romantic and sit side-by-side on the banquette facing out. I make all these points because 1) the waiter knew we were ready to order; 2) the card was very visible as he walked by, yet he passed back and forth helping other tables and not picking up our card. I was mad, my guy's blood sugar was low and he's British, so I knew I had to be the assertive one, so on the sixth pass by the waiter I picked up the order, politely but loud enough to be heard stated that our order was ready, and handed it over. Dishes in order of arrival: Lamb carbonara: By itself (so a bit disconcerting): Not sure why this was called carbonara when the only similarity to it was the egg and peas, peas which I did not even notice until I opened the leftover box the next day. It was closer to a fettucine alfredo with it's gouda cream sauce and fettucine noodles vs spaghetti. It was crammed into an odd bowl, deep and not wide. It was difficult to share and the tiny plates did not help matters. The dish was under salted and just odd; why green pasta, green peas, and lentils; green-green-green? There was a cooked egg on top but the yoke was cooked all the way through (nicely done), so there was no yoke to mix in with the dish, so why bother? Cut a little piece of egg, take a chunk of lamb, get some pasta? It just made no sense at all. The lamb was flavorful but what a mess of a dish. All at the same time: Scallop yakitori: Not bad. Scallops slightly underdone but I could handle it. Sauce was nice. Pork Belly yakitori: Tasty if rather heavily coated/sauced. Romesco sauce seemed like an odd combo and it didn't really need it. Asparagus: Nicely cooked! Kale salad: Soooo much happening in this dish, but again, why? I finally got to the squash and the chucks were huge and the fuzzy part where the seeds attach hadn't been scraped off, so it wasn't very appealing! It was so hard to eat this dish with all the different sizes of things and the way they were spread around the dish. All you could really do was eat individual pieces of it because the carrot "chips" were ribbons that were all clumped together on top, the manchego was in large, thin slices spread around the bowl's rim, we couldn't even find the candy cane beets. I was pretty bummed as I was really looking forward to this dish. My personal impressions: They are trying way to hard to be something; cool, eclectic, edgy, different, I'm not sure what, but it resulted in food that is fussy and lacks harmony. The staff was distant and that combined with the weird way to order did not help me to connect with this restaurant. Maybe we'd have had better luck if we'd stuck with a simpler dish like a burger or sandwich, but I won't come back to find out. read more

Our favorite restaurant downtown Vancouver! Our go-to's are the Yakitori, Petit Filet, Baked Brie, Short Rib Birria, and Truffle Mac! But everything on the menu is amazing! Great drinks as well. Owners and employees are very friendly and attentive. We fell in love with the ambiance of the restaurant the first time we came in, very well decorated and love the style. This restaurant is new to us and we had a great first experience. We showed up on a Saturday night and sat in the bar, which felt like a restaurant. Our table split filet skewers, baked brie (which was our favorite), salads and birria tacos that came in a good portion. Drinks were amazing and the service was very attentive. Second time here, same waiter. First time, he forgot my coffee, had to remind him. No big deal but on the second visit he totally did not put in my order. I sat for nearly an hour while my girlfriend's dishes came out in dribs and drabs. Four different small plates. No sign of the waiter all this time, so I flag down the guy bringing out the food and tell him what I ordered. He mumbles something about the kitchen being backed up, but I see a steady flow of food coming out, except mine. Sometime later, a different person comes out with a dish that contains beef but other than that it bears no resemblance to a cheese fondu with beef and mushrooms. I tell her it's not what I ordered. She says I probably ordered from the small plates for a $16 dish. No, I show her on the checklist type menu that they use, that it's a $39 fondue. Right there on paper. She says she'll talk to someone about it. Now finally I see the waiter again. You think he would have checked on us, say a half hour ago. He apologizes and says they'll put the order right in. I say no, she's done eating, we've waited far too long, and now I've lost my appetite. He seems annoyed but at that point I'm like no problem, stuff happens. Then what he says next pisses me off and prompts me to write this review. He says, "It's just an order error, guys, it happens." That's a totally bullshit response. "Sorry" or "very sorry" would be appropriate, but not an excuse. Sure there's errors sometimes. That's why good restaurants with good staff CHECK THE ORDERS AS THE FOOD COMES OUT. He didn't do that, he didn't check on his customer to see that they got everything, how the food was, etc. Nope, "it happens" is his reply. He proceeds to make it worse by acting like I should eat the item I didn't order because they didn't charge me for it. He says it's the same meat as in what I ordered. Are you kidding me??? I got four small steak bites on a skewer, smothered in teriyaki sauce that's loaded with sugar that I cannot have. What I ordered had no sauce, no sugar, just grilled beef and two kinds of cheese mixed in a fondue. It's not even similar. I won't be back. read more

We had a great Valentine's Dinner. This was are first visit and was greeted with a smile. The young lady was a little confused but once she got rolling she was in full swing. The ambiance was quite and nice. Our waiter was a busy man but moved the floor really well. We had Tuna Tar Tar, Japanese Rabbit, Venison and Duck Breast. Which I say they were all really good except the duck. It was lacking flavor and a little dry. But I would definitely go back and recommend the place to others. read more

Everything we ordered was FANTASTIC!! The burger- best I've ever had. The Brie was out of this world. The bread it comes with, we could not stop eating!! The steak was phenomenal. I've been here 5x since it first opened. I kept going back because I REALLY want to like it. Great ambience. Amazing, unique menu, that sounds like top chef quality food. But damn, it's left me disappointed every time. The Yakatori is the best thing on the menu (so good) but has TRIPLED in price since opening, without the portion getting bigger. 4-5 bites on a skewer is not worth $12-$16. Go back to your original price of $4-$6. Every time I've ordered a full meal it's been over cooked and/or so bland I want to cry. I've gotten several cocktails there to try and soothe my after dinner disappointment , but those also made me want to cry. I get the feeling that management is too cheap to hire good experienced chefs and bartenders. The servers are great and super sweet but seemed stretched thin and stressed out. Another clue that there's a management problem. I'm out of chances to give this place. Until I see that it's under new leadership I probably won't be back. read more

Absolutely wonderful. The restaurant is modern looking and beautiful. Food is off the charts clever and delicious and reasonably priced. This place is an absolute diamond find in Vancouver Wa. The mezcal drink is phenomenal. My favorite drink in the Portland/Vancouver area for sure. I think it's called the "hey handsome"?. Been there twice now and the service is on point. Brought the boyfriend second time around and he loved it too. The only dish I wasn't a fan of was the bisque but everything else was just absolutely unique and outstanding. The fries, the Brie, the pork belly and truffle Mac and finished with the smoked raspberry mousse. Just wow. You will not be disappointed. Great ambiance for a first date or business or girls night. We came here because the reviews were good. It was very expensive. We both ordered cocktails and they were ok I guess, nothing amazing. The food...maybe the chef was having a bad night? It happens I guess. We ordered a few dishes. The Burrata Panini, is a poor attempt at a vegetarian option, pretty bland, just not great. The Petit Filet came out medium well, the taste was fine, but I was surprised. The tempura portabellos are literally just fried portabellos without any seasoning. Grilled asparagus is normally one of our favorite things, but they douse it with romesco sauce. Seasoning seems to be a lot of the issue with most of the food. The Chicken thigh yakitori was good, no complaints about this one. Good job. The shrimp yakitori was fine, but the chimichurri sauce does not need to go with it? It doesn't go together, just season the food and stop with the sauces. read more

My husband and I-have been coming to the Sedgwick since it opened. They have a interesting menu, love the yakitori Grill items and craft cocktails. However we went there last night and ordered the same cocktails that we have always ordered and what a disappointment!!! The London fog ( take on a whiskey sour) was nothing like the past, way to sweet, didn't even taste like they infused the whiskey with earl gray tea like the menu says, more like apple cinnamon tea, horrible, way too sweet!! My husband ordered the Handsome Devil, same experience supposed to be refreshing & spicy but no, Supper sweet! the cocktails are not balanced overly sweet and at $ 36.00 for two cocktails such a disappointment!! The food is very good, the atmosphere is lovely, service pretty good But for the price I would choose the grocery for cocktails and there happy hour burger is awesome!! read more

I'd love to say that my experience started great and then it did not. My lady got her main dish first and after 20 min of waiting for mine, I canceled my dish. (There's nothing more tacky than bringing main dishes at different times). Tim, one of the owners went above and beyond to make things right and then some. I went from thinking I won't be back here to coming back again. The food we had was great as were the drinks. An apology would have been enough for me, but Tim took it and ran with making sure I'd leave there with a positive experience. We will be back for sure! read more

Fantastic food! Desserts are CONSISTENTLY good. If you have to choose one, make it the bread pudding. You will not be disappointed. One thing to note: if the server says they'll bring extra bread for the brie, make sure to ask if it's an additional charge or not. Was not sure what to expect. Walked in with my family and was immediately greeted and walked to our table without reservation. Food was well made - a little pricey, but very good overall. What a great surprise and a real treat. To start with the menu includes a great variety of dishes spanning Italian classics to wonderful takes on Japanese Yakitori skewers and everything we tried was excellent. There is a lot to choose from here and each dish is made with care. Even the Vanilla and triple cream Gorgonzola ice Cream at the end was to die for. Great ambiance, great service, amazing food!!! The drinks were well done too! Brie was one of my favorites, complimented well with the honey and the chutney. Beef cheeks were amazing too, so tender and nice crisp. Octopus cooked so well, very tender. Scallops cooked to perfection - the complimenting sauces w all dishes. My husband and ordered the Brie, the bone marrow, rabbit, beef cheeks, octopus, Scottish egg, birria, Yakitori scallops and Yakitori pork belly... it was TOO much! We loved everything we ordered!!!! We had an awful experience this past weekend. Ordered the butterfly pea flower drink which didn't change colors from blue to magenta like it was supposed to. Lamb Belly Carbonara was soupy and tasted like someone dumped a watered down jar of Alfredo sauce on the pasta then over salted it and topped it with metallic and chewy organ meat. We ordered the baked Brie and it was served room temperature. The small amount of bread it came with was definitely not enough to enjoy with the Brie. Same goes for the bone marrow we ordered. A huge dish that came with 1 slice of bread and I think the escargot was from a can. Everything we ordered was just so heavy and sloppy and extremely overpriced. Clearly they are spreading themselves thin with the enormous and diverse menu they have. I think they'd have more success if they focused on perfecting a smaller number of their most popular dishes. We complained about two of the dishes to our server but honestly it was all terrible and a complete waste of time and money. read more
