this restaurant has been in Malabar Florida for 40 years. I think it day has come and gone. We ate there last night, and the place was nearly empty at 7 PM on a Wednesday. The service was good. Our server has been there for about 40 years however, the food was just awful and very expensive. I had grouper grilled grouper that was nearly in edible, the fish was probably 3 ounces and it was over $30. Our friends had steak tacos which were terrible, tough and grizzly. My Husband had Kohn fritters that were dough balls and my other friend had shrimp and grits which was awful. it was a very expensive meal and the quality was really terrible. service was so so. 7 for Easter dinner. 1 entree was served with appetizers. then 3 of the other 6 dinners were served cold, not even warm. later the 3 were served again. plates were hot (probably microwaved). mine was over cooked (prime rib). waitress had her manager come over. apologied to me but didn't even ask any questions about any one others food. later saw the same manager dancing in the kitchen with the cooks. absolutely horrible experience. may go back to the tiki bar but never to the restaurant!!! read more

This is an update. Our last visit was 5.months ago and the food was terrible. The location and view are great, so we wanted to give them another chance. Tonight was the night to do that. It was the exact same disappointment. This time is was fried haddock for me. After waiting for over an hour for food it came our barely warm and was like rubber. I literally had to saw the fish to cut it. We were with friends and their food was all the same. My one friend got the Alfredo pasta and it was so dry it looked like it was left over frome the night before. Overall, none our food was edible. This place is really only relying on their location to stay in business because they really don't care about serving good food to customers. read more

The ambiance is wonderful with the water views on the intercoastal waterway. The food is consistently good, but not spectacular.

First time visiting there in a very long time ~ decided to go there since hubby wanted a fish sandwich. I ordered the grouper sandwich, which was at MP (market price) and since my husband ordered the mahi sandwich at $16, I didn't question the price. Well, when the bill arrived, thee grouper sandwich was $25.00! For that price, it should have been a magnificent piece of fish but alas, it barely covered the large bun they served it on and overall it was just "meh". The french fries that I ordered were tasty but the serving would not have satisfied a child's appetite. I might go back and get a drink and an appetizer at the tiki bar but not for lunch. With a 20% tip (our server was great!), my lunch cost me almost $60.00 for a couple of small fish sandwiches. read more

The dining experience at The Shack Riverfront and Tiki Bar is not limited to just the food. The view here is wonderful, I had the Crabby Patty, delicious. The host Mary, beautiful lady with a lot of heart and energy made sure we received good service and is down to earth even participating in our cheers. They had live entertainment and a beautiful pier that was new and great for pictures. All I can say is there were eight of us, the food was perfectly cooked. The service was great the view amazing the drinks, I'd give a B, always room for improvement. Overall well be back over worth the price and trip. read more

Please stop the valet parking option! It should be optional. If there's available parking in the actual parking lot, there is no reason to valet. If there is no parking, be aware that they park your car in a dirt-filled lot that's under construction, so if you washed your car, it will be dirty, guaranteed. Speaking from experience, I won't be going back for now until they work this out. The food is good most days, though. read more

Lovely riverfront scenery with a cool tiki bar makes this a popular place for tourists plus a nice happy bar. Food is good, I tried the coconut shrimp and they were very tasty and we'll prepared. My husband tried the reuben sandwich which was good, with the thick meat. Stella on tap, among other beers, plus plenty in the bottles. Good, varied cocktails. Bathrooms were clean. Sure, by no means is this place fancy, but, in my opinion, places don't need to be fancy to be amazing... and that's just what this place is--amazing! This little gem, located near Melbourne, FL, is definitely worthy checking out. They offer a full menu of seafood goodness (both the fried variety and the healthier broiled variety). Now, when I splurge, I don't usually go for healthy, so I can't vouch for those items... but, everything I tried, was right on. First off, I gotta mention those fried shrimp again! Wow! They were giant, plump, tasty and fried up just right! Seriously, I'm not lying when I say they were the best fried shrimp I've ever eaten! Other items I tried included the shrimp scampi and stuffed shrimp. All delicious! [I got the Shrimp Trio meal, which allowed me to try a sampling of their various shrimp dishes.] Before the meal, I tried several apps including the fried calamari and appetizer sampler plate w/ various fried seafood goodies... again, all tasty. We also ordered a few different pre-dinner drinks from their full-service bar, and those were tasty and strong!! Yum! And, to top it off, for their mojitos, they grow their own mint! How cool is that?!?! As for atmosphere, this place is not going to win any awards for ambiance. What a find! Where for a mid afternoon meal as a complete shot in the dark and last minute choice. Beautiful location on the River with an excellent design that offers patrons both indoor and outdoor seating. Ordered the strawberry salad and it was totally Delish. The servers are extraordinarily friendly which leads one to believe that it's a great place to work. Moderately to high priced but well worth every penny. The Shack changed hands recently, and after having lunch or dinner there twice a month for 17 years my wife and I continued the practice. Unfortunately, and sadly, we are crossing it off of our dinning list. Our last three visits were a big disappointment. On Thanksgiving day we had dinner there. My wife's turkey plate consisted more of undercooked turkey skin than meat. When we complained, their response was, "sorry about that". No offer or attempt to adjust the bill, (which was much higher than last years". So yesterday, 12/8 we gave it another try. Both of us had the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp were shrimp in size, covered with a tasteless stuffing, served over cooked and luke-warm. The veggies were as hard as a rock, as though they came directly from the refrigerator. The Shack used to be one of the best ocean view restaurants offering good food, a perfect view and live music. Currently only the view survives as it's most appealing element. Food and service not so much... Celebrating my dad's 96th birthday at The Shack was an unintentional error on my part. On 2/23 we had to wait 30 minutes for a table for (4). No special consideration for long time customers. The Shack seemed to be prioritizing a table of friends and family and blocked off substantial floor space. The kitchen was slow and the service was horrible. Waiters had to be repeatedly reminded to bring bread to the table. All four dinners were served cold and with room for improvement. Side dishes arrived after dinner was served. Speaking with management was pointless, I think they have just given up! Management blamed the kitchen for everything. Never again... 2/28/23 read more

We have loved this place for the last 3 years until today. My husband ordered the fishs tacos, the sauce they used was spoiled my husband as customary used a bunch of ketchup to give it taste, well bad taste got masked, but I tasted them after he told me it tasted bad, OMG it was bitter slimy. We told the waitress, I guess they didn't belive us and gave us a 50% discount for spoiled tacos, I had to go trow up my meal because it was disgusting and not to say my husband will probably get sick for consuming bad tacos. I feel sick... We go there every week because it's always great, until tonight that we got treated like liars . They should value and respect their clients opinion. Never again ! read more
